Mabel Coyle, 77, Perryville Road, died Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born March 29, 1924 in Rose Hill, she was the daughter of the late Plummer Davis and Myrtle Clark Reynolds. She was the widow of Clarence Coyle.
She was an inspector for Corning Glass Works of Harrodsburg, a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church and liked to attend yard sales and collect Avon.
Survivors include: one son, John Wayne Rider, Harrodsburg; two step sons, Harold Coyle, Lancaster, Donnie (Melissa) Coyle, Parksville; one daughter, Mary (Kenny) Coyle, Harrodsburg; three step daughters, Joyce (Chris) Casey, Junction City, Kathy (James) Fallon, Danville, Shirley (Ronnie) Lindsey, Gravel Switch; two half brothers, Gerald and David Reynolds, both of Washington County; one half sister, Rita Reynolds, Washington County, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Viola Reynolds and two brothers, Eugene and Burdette Reynolds.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 10, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lee Patterson, Willie Turpin, Sr., Willie Turpin, Jr., Gary Clements, Harold Coyle and Donnie Coyle.
JEWELL HOLDERMAN
Jewell Cecelia Holderman, 70, of Claybrook Avenue, Springfield, died Thursday, November 8, 2001 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville.
Born July 26, 1931 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Guy S. and Minerva Bottoms Coovert.
She was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and was the owner and operator of the former Home Away From Home Day Care Center.
Survivors include: her husband, Ruben Holderman, Springfield; two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Beverly) Dubicki, Louisville, Mrs. Reginald (Marilyn) Resper, Fairview Heights, IL; one son, Ruben Holderman, Jr., Las Vegas, NV; her step father, Bill Seay, Miami, FL; one sister, Billie Jane Deweese, New Albany, FL; one brother, Donald Seay, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 11, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Rev. J. T. Kirkpatrick, officiating. Burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Derrick Holderman, Reggie Resper, Jeffrey Lyons, Joshua Holderman, Mark Badgett and Timmy Smith.
KENNETH KING
Kenneth D. King, 65, Riverside Drive, died Friday, Novem-ber 9, 2001 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born June 26, 1936 in Parksville, he was the son of the late Virgil Lee and Viola Johnson King.
He was a retired school superintendent for the Mercer County School System where his accomplishments included: the renovation of the high school cafeteria, library and bus garage; additions to the Mercer Elementary; construction of the playground; tennis courts, greenhouse and Board of Education office; computer labs and the construction of the Kenneth D. King Middle School.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree from UK, Masters in Educational Administration and Masters Plus 34 hours certification as School Superintendent from Eastern Kentucky University. He had been a science teacher in the Fayette, Jessamine and Mercer County school systems as well as the principal for the Mercer County School systems.
His military experience included the U. S. Navy, Naval Reserves, Kentucky National Guard and Naval Intelligence, as well as retirement from the Army Reserves.
He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church where he taught the Junior Boys Sunday School Class, was a member of Fellowship Baptist Men’s Group and he served as an usher.
He was a member of the American Legion, Kentucky Education Association, National Education Association, Kentucky Association of School Superintendents, Kentucky Association of Secondary School Principals, Kentucky Association of School Administrators, National Association of Science Teachers, Kentucky Coaches Association, Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and the Mercer County Retired Teachers.
Survivors include: his wife, Patsy Baker King, Harrodsburg; one son, Kenny (Carla) King, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Terri (Kevin) Montgomery, Nicholasville, Debbie (Duane) Lester, Harrodsburg; one sister, Patricia Reeves, Lexington; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren. His was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Ruth Southard King, one sister, Louise Lister, one brother, Esker King.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley and Kenneth Meredith officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Scott Denson, David Denson, Kenneth Huffman, Jerry Kays, Leroy Darland, Harold Baker, Jr., Bob Baker and Gary Baker. Honorary bearers were J. Hugh Philips, Gerald Lister, Joe Denson, Mike Barnard, Danny Reeves, Ronnie Sims, and J. H. Newby.
RICHARD McENTYRE
Richard Kelly “Mac” McEntyre, 39, of 889 Chimney Rock Road, Burgin, formerly of Lawrenceburg, died Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
He was a native of Anderson County, he was the son of Kelly and Mary Jo McEntyre, Lawrenceburg.
He was an assistant professor at North Point Training Center in Danville, and an instructor in the Electrician Apprentice Program of the Corning Glass Works.
He was a member of the Fox Creek Christian Church, Lawrenceburg Lions Club and Past Master of Anderson Masonic Lodge #90.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: his wife, Brenda Brawner McEntyre, Burgin; one son, Justin McEntrye and one daughter, Jennifer McEntyre, both of Lawrenceburg; two step children, Stacy Kircher, Lexington, Brad Kircher, CA; one brother, Danny (Janet) McEntyre, Lawrenceburg; two sisters-in-law, Jo Abbott and Becky (bill) Breeze, both of Lawrenceburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 16, 2001 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Richard McEntyre Scholarship Fund.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
FRANCES SETTLES
Frances Settles, 80, of 1563 Lexington Road, died Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born August 17, 1921 in Shelbyville, IN, she was the daughter of the late Wilber and Stella McDonald Palmer.
She was a retired seamstress, a Baptist and enjoyed working with crafts, flowers and sewing.
Survivors include: two sons, Kenneth Robert Palmer, Harrodsburg, Jerry Houston Butler, Jamestown, TN; three brothers, James E. Phillips, Jr., Springfield, Donald Phillips, Springfield and Paul Phillips, Willisburg; three sisters, Dorothy Brockman, Harrodsburg, Betty Joanne Hardin, Bloomfield, Ruth Bailey, Harrodsburg; 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Morris Palmer.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 9, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley and Edwin Freeman officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeff Palmer, Harold Palmer, Jerry Dean Laraway, Robert Houston Butler, Scott Laraway, Andrew Butler and Jimmie Brown.
ELMER SMITH
Elmer R. Smith, 91, of Bellows Mill Road, died Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born July 20, 1910 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Jesse and Dora Hall Smith. He was the widower of Evelyn Mattingly Smith.
He was a farmer and a member of the Ellers Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Reuben Smith, Lexington; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Eleanor Frances Evans.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 10 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Readnour officiating. Burial was in Peters Cemetery, Mackville.
ROBERT WAITS
Robert Edwin Waits, 60, of 4638 Clinton Blvd., Lakeworth, FL, died Thursday, November 8, 2001 at JFK Medical Center, Atlantis, FL.
Born January 15, 1941 in Lexington, he was the son of the late Robert and Willie Francis Waits. He was the widower of Mary Ann Amaral Waits.
He had worked as an electrician and was owner of Mane Roads Camp Ground, Lakeworth, FL.
He was a member of Gardenside Christian Church in Lexington.
Survivors, include: his wife, Karen Bailey Waits, Lakeworth, FL; three step sons, Brad Bailey, FL, Timothy Bailey and B. J. Bailey, both of MA; two daughters, Jennifer Peavler and Catherine Swartz, both of Lexington; one brother, Cecil Francis, Jr., Mercer County; two sisters, Anna Mae Haney, Mercer County, Betty Jo Wilson, Lexington; three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ella Evans Adams and Lorine Snook.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 12, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, with Terry Morrison officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lexington.
Pallbearers were David Gilvin, Cecil Francis, Robert Wilson, Thomas Swartz, Odell Wilson and Brad Bailey.

PHILIP CARR
Philip M. Carr, 93, of 441 West Office Street, died Monday, November 19, 2001 at Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born February 18, 1908 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late William Henry and Annie Bird Bercaw Carr. He was the widower of Nettie Thomas Carr.
He was a store manager for TGLY Store for 43 years and was a member of the Christian Church.
Gravesides services were held Wednesday, November 21, at the Spring Hill Cemetery. There was no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to one’s favorite charity.

LIBERTY COCHRAN
Liberty Darland Cochran, 72, of Isham Lane, Mackville, died Monday, November 12, 2001 at her residence.
Born March 15, 1929 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Davy and Lillie Lambert Darland. She was the widow of Kenneth Duward Cochran.
She was a member of the Mackville Church of Christ, a homemaker and a 1948 graduate of Mackville High School.
Survivors include: one son, Alex Parnell (Gloria) Cochran, Mackville; two daughters, Jenny (James D.) Hawthorne, Harrodsburg, Lisa (Kirtley) Barnett, Harrodsburg; one brother, Norman Darland, Mackville; two sisters, Iva Jewell Shewmaker and Juanita Hilton, both of Mackville; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Beuna Darland.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 14, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Murphy, Bro. Frank Preston and Bro. Cal Adams officiating. Burial was in the Battle Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lynn Cochran, Nathan Cochran, Jessie Barnett, Brian André, Eric Satterly and Jamie Wilson. Honorary bearers were Michael Mills, Nicolas Wilson and Alex Rucker Cochran.
CLAUDE FREEMAN
Claude B. Freeman, 85, of Palm City, FL, died Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at the Parkway Health and Rehab in Stuart, FL.
Born in Harrodsburg, he was the owner and operator of Freeman Builders in Lexington for 35 years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stuart and a lifetime member of St. Johns Masonic Lodge in Salvisa.
Survivors include: two daughters, Malinda (John) Parker, Port Orange, FL and Claudie Cook, Palm City, FL; two grandsons, three granddaughters and six great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Friday, November 16, at Spring Hill Cemetery.
