NELLIE ASHER

Nellie Edwards Asher, 94, of 632 Beaumont Ave. died Sunday, January 30, 2000 at Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born October 17, 1905 in McKees Crossing, she was the daughter of the late Claude M. and Dessie Gritton Edwards and was the widow of William Garnett Asher.

She worked as a clerk for the former Louisville Store and was a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church, a Sunday School teacher for more than 50 years, member of the United Methodist Women and a former local district officer. She was also a member of Eastern Star and the Harrodsburg Woman's club.

Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Jean (Joe) Humber; one brother, Marvin Edwards, Lawrenceburg; one sister, Juanita Haley, Lawrenceburg; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by: two brothers, Shively and Bruce Edwards; one sister, Hazel Walker; two great granddaughters, Melinda Kay Peavler and Lora Ann Humber.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, at the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church with Mark Girard and David Ross officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tim Humber, Danny Humber, John W. Peavler, Buddy Walker, Tim Crook and Jeff Phillips.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church, Chiles Street, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

FLOSSIE GRIGSBY

Flossie Lovell Pollitt Grigsby, 85, formerly of 486 N. Main Street, died Friday, January 28, 2000 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born July 8, 1914 in Lewis County, she was the daughter of the late Winford and Anna Stamper Pollitt of Mt. Carmel, Fleming Co. She was the widow of Carl Rowland Grigsby.

She had lived in Flemingsburg, Maysville and Lexington before retiring from Lowenthal’s and moving to Harrodsburg.

She was a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Earl Boyd Grigsby, Branson, MO; one daughter, Mrs. Carol (Ralph) Lovell Hill, Shelbyville; one brother, Howard Pollitt, Mt. Carmel; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Bert Winfred Grigsby; and two brothers, Raymond and Morris Pollitt, both of Mt. Carmel.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 5, at the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Flemingsburg, with Rev. Paul Brewer officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard Hill, Donnie Pollitt, Winford Pollitt, Harold Pollitt, Butch Tackett and Jack Cancilla.

Visitation will be at Mt. Carmel Methodist Church, Saturday, February 5, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

PHILLIP EADS

Phillip Wayne Eads, 73, of 144 Sugar Street, Salvisa, died Monday, January 31, 2000 at his residence.

Born February 22, 1926 in Tuscaloosa, AL, he was the son of the late Luther and Ruby Parker Eads.

He worked as a school teacher for Harrison Elementary and served as minister of music for churches in Lexington, Paris, Georgetown, Danville, Louisville, Roanoke, VA, Langdale, AL and Atlanta, GA.

He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Salvisa Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon Emeritus.

Survivors include: his wife, Margarette Beasley Eads, Salvisa; two brothers, Eldridge Eads, Monterey, TN and E. Don Eads, Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gene, Morris and Bobby Eads.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 3, at the Salvisa Baptist Church with Rev. Walter Price, Rev. James Hensley, Rev. John Hockersmith III, and Rev. Larry Koch officiating. Burial will be in the Kirkwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Eads, David Eads, Steve Eads, Tim Eads, Rodney Harlow, Peter Neidenvach, Tony Neidenvach and Jason Clark. Honorary bearers will be Rev. Dale Niswonger, Rev. Z. T. Lester, Rev. Gary Story, Rev Don White, Rev. Bob Jones, Rev. Tyre Denney, Rev. Ed Orberson.

Memorials are suggested to the Gideon Memorial Bible Fund or to Heritage Hospice.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, and 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

ELLEN YOUNG

Ellen R. Young, 67, of Ft. Meyers, FL, formerly of Lancaster, died Monday, January 31, 2000 in Ft. Meyers.

Born May 26, 1932 in Garrard County, she was the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Margaret Holtzclaw Russell.

She was a South Central Bell employee for 17 years and a retired homemaker.

She was a member of Burgin Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Ollie F. Young, Ft. Meyers; two sons, Marcus Lee Young and Michael Scott Young, both of Danville; one daughter, Angela D. Young of Altoona, PA; two brothers, Frank Russell, Boway, CA and G. C. Russell, Calhoun, GA; two sisters, Peggy McAnly, Nicholasville, and Julia Bishop, Riverdale, GA; two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Woodrow Russell and a sister, Mildred Gazaway.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 3, at the Spurlin Funeral Home in Lancaster with Bro. Billy Estes officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Hester, Jack Pattie, Barry Rich, Billy Ray, Billy Pendergrass and Eddie Gover.

Visitation Wednesday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

LILLIE SCHULER

Lillie Rankin Schuler, 87, of 429 Fairfield Drive, Lexington. Died Monday, January 31, 2000.

Born in Bourbon County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Arthur and Minnie Stivers Rankin. She was the widow of Stanley Swinford Schuler.

She was a retired buyer from Graves-Cox Company, where she was employed 32 years and was then associated with the Locker Room for eight years.

She was a member of Southland Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Gayle S. Flynn and Norris "Chigger" Flynn, Harrodsburg; one sister, Alma Xearns, Ruddles Mills; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers, Mildred Rankin, Nida Mae Rankin, Hazel Brooks, Ewell Rankin, Marvin Rankin and Irvin Rankin.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 3, at the W. R. Milward Mortuary-Southland with Rev. Wayne Smith and Rev. Don Hill officiating. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.

Her grandson, great grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials are suggested to the Carpenter’s Christian Church Building Fund, PO Box 87, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

MATT CARR

Matt Carr, 82, husband of Bernice Currens Carr, formerly of 844 Warwick Road, died Monday, January 31, 2000 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Arrangements are incomplete at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

MATT CARR

Matt Curry Carr, 82, formerly of 844 Warwick Rd., died Monday, January 31, 2000 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born December 26, 1917 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Cleo and Nellie Bercaw Carr.

He was a retired farmer and a member and former elder of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church.

He was a former director of Southern States.

Survivors include: his wife, Bernice Currens Carr, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Mrs. Beulah Carr Hester, Stanford, and Mrs. David (Bonnie Carr) Sebastian, Arlington, TX; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by seven sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 4, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. John Westerfield officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ray Ransdell, Harold Baker, Larry Carr, Billy Durr, Timmy Buck and Dudley Osborn. Nieces and nephews served as honorary bearers.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church.

SALLY OSTENDORF

Sally Wills Ostendorf, 77, of Cincinnati, OH, died Friday, January 28, 2000 at her residence.

She was the daughter of the late Edgar and Sudie Bell Mattingly Wills and the widow of James Ostendorf.

She was a graduate of Rose Hill School and a member of the Berea Christian Church.

Survivors include: one son, James Ostendorf, Jr. and one daughter, Kathy Quarry, both of Cincinnati; one sister, Margaret Brown, Boyle County.

Funeral services were held at the Staley-Crowe Funeral Home with burial in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

LILLARD SMITH, Jr.

Lillard Smith Jr., 71, of Mackville, died Sunday, February 6, 2000 at his residence.

A native of Washington County, he was born May 26, 1928 to Lillard, Sr. and Mary Lee Mattingly Smith.

He was a member of the Mackville Baptist Church, a 1946 graduate of Mackville High School, a member of the Magnolia Masonic Lodge #201, F&AM at Mackville, and for 37 ½ years he was affiliated with Armour Food Company in the trucking division.

Survivors include: his wife, Jean Hatchett Smith, Mackville; two daughters, Dawn (Bill) Pettus, Lexington; Mary Jane (Larry) Scott, Springfield; three sons, Jim (Mary Alice) Smith, Mackville; Joe (Rita) Smith, Harrodsburg; John (Katy) Smith, Perrysburg, OH; his mother, Mary Lee Mattingly Smith, Mackville; two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Helen) Isham, Elizabethtown and Betsy Johnson, Lebanon; 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 8, at the Mackville Baptist Church with Rev. David Gifford officiating. Burial was in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville. Masonic services were held Monday evening at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Donnie Carrico, Jeff Russell, Clifton Russell, Larry Scott, Eugene Mayes and Joe Auberry. Honorary bearers were Carl Curtsinger, William Martin Russell, Sam Stumph, Johnny Turner, Reco Bishop and Carlton Shewmaker.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Mackville Community Development.

GUS WOHNER

Gus Wohner, 87, of Russell Lane, Springfield, died Wednesday, February 2, 2000 at the Norton Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

A native of Washington County, he was born August 11, 1912 to the late Meredith and Susie Coulter Warner.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Unity Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Nora Lewis Wohner; four sons, Joe Wohner, Howard Wohner and Jerry Wohner, all of Mackville, and Ray Kininmonth, Springfield; three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Linda) Terrell, Mackville, Mrs. Henry (Imogene) Viel, Macon, GA, and Mrs. Janet Ratchford, Hillsboro, TN; two sisters; Mrs. Annie Yaste and Mrs. Georgie (Lettie) Hardin, both of Willisburg; two brothers, W. R. Wohner and Bobby Warner, both of Springfield; 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James M. Wohner; Five brothers, Granville Warner, J. Norris Warner, Frank Warner, Raymond Warner and Maurice Wohner; two sisters, Ruby Cheser, Margie Murphy and Irene Settles; 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 4, at the Unity Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Reed and Rev. Paul Readnour officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Wayne Kininmonth, Kenny Kinimonth, Joey Wohner, Roger Wohner, Dusty Wohner, Bryan Ratchford and Derek Goff. Honorary bearers were Bruce Burkhead, Mike Carrier, Garvey Barnett, Tommy Russell, Johnny Harmon and Brad Gammon.

Carey and Son Funeral Home in Springfield was in charge of arrangements.

HENRIETTA LAMB

Henrietta Lamb, 80, of 157 Cottonwood St., died Thursday, February 3, 2000 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born August 10, 1919 in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Mary Alice Prewitt Dailey.

She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Henry Lamb, Harrodsburg; two sons, Carl and Kenny Lamb, both of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Carl Dailey Jr., Harrodsburg, and Jay Dailey; three sisters, Emma Barlow, OH, Ann Lamachy, FL, and Ivalee Crews, Boyle County; two grandchildren, one great grandchild, two step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 6, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Lester Tirey officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Travis Lamb, Terry Dailey, Ronnie Dailey, Frankie Prather, Billy Clay Anderson and Neil Prather.
