He was a boiler operator and a US Army veteran having served in Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ann Saunders Stewart, Warwick, RI; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Satterly, Burgin; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jack (Norma) Hammons, Burgin, Mrs. Bill (Betty) Dixon, Burgin, Lena Satterly, Burgin, and Mrs. Joe (Ruby) Hurst, Harrodsburg.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Carpenter-Jenks Quaker Lane Chapel in West Warwick, RI.
MILITARY RITES
Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted Military Rites for Logan Sampson at Spring Hill Cemetery December 4, 2001.
Those attending were Roy Freeman, Joe Harlow, Lucian Landers, Howard Howells, James L. Tewmey, Tom Rappleye and Tom Denny.
William Gravely served as bugler.
PAULINE CORNISH
Pauline Stine Cornish, 80, of Lawrenceburg Road, Willisburg, died Saturday, December 15, 2001 at the Norton Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.
Born September 5, 1921 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Edward Price and Elizabeth Kyler Stine. She was the widow of Charlie Cornish.
She was a member of the Rockbridge Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. H. T. (Carol) Lewis, Willisburg, four sons, Walter Cornish, Willisburg, DeLayne “Dickie” Cornish, Springfield, Larry Cornish, Louisville, Eddie Cornish, Mackville; two sisters, Lilus Riley, Harrodsburg and Mathie Adams, Lawrenceburg; 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, six step grandchildren, three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Terry Lynn Lewis, one sister, Blanch Ross, three brothers, Mack, Andrew and Edgar Stine.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 17, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Hollins officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.
Pallbearers were Todd Lewis, Donovan Cornish, Marty Cornish, Jason Cornish, John Cornish and Kelly Cornish.
THOMAS ROBERTS
Thomas L. Roberts, 71, of 955 Highway 33, Burgin, died Monday, December 17, 2001 at his residence.
Born October 3, 1930 in Nicholasville, he was the son of the late Will and Leeoma Montgomery Roberts.
He had worked as a greens keeper for Bright Leaf Golf Resort, was a member of the American Legion and an army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include: his wife, Lucille Ann Watson Roberts, Burgin; two sons, Allen Vance (Ida) Roberts, Burgin, Brian Thomas (Garnett) Roberts, Garrard County; one brother, Bill Roberts, Hamilton, OH; three sisters, Mittie Ponder, Lexington, Beulah Hubbard, Hamilton, OH, Cora Ulmer, Versailles; two step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Lee Roberts.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 20, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Arthur O. Ulmer officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Denny, Ricky Turner, Martin Turner, Jeff Turner, Chad Henninger and Brian Roberts.
Visitation at the chapel from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, and after 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
INEZ SALLEE
Inez Louise Freeman Sallee, 78, N. Greenville Street, died Monday, December 17, 2001 in Harrodsburg.
Born February 3, 1923 in Louisville, she was the daughter of the late Glover and Sally Purdom Freeman. She was the widow of Irvin “Pete” Sallee.
She was a retired Cricketeer Employee, a member of Pioneer Baptist Church and a former McDonald’s employee.
She was a volunteer for the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital and the Christian Life Center. She was a quilter and liked to travel.
Survivors include: three sons, Dennis D. Sallee, Harrodsburg, Donnie Sallee, Perryville and Ronnie Sallee, Harrodsburg; one sister, Burnell Gammon, Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Gene Sallee, and one brother, Kyle Freeman.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 20, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Walter and Bro. Ray Spicer officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Shane Sallee, Shawn Sallee, Michael J. Sallee, David Tyler, Josh Bradley and James Butch Merchant, Jr. Honorary bearers will be Ed Hudson, Buford Taylor, Don Burns, James Paul Murray, Bro. Jerel Coffey, Harry Harmon, Jack Atwell, Nooe Long and Henry Black.

CHRISTINE SPARROW
Christine Ellen Sparrow, 85, of 301 Oakwood Drive, Lawrenceburg, died Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at the Heritage Hall Care Center.
Born November 18, 1916 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Will D. and Minnie Ingram Sparrow.
She was a retired employee of the Department of Transportation, a former school teacher and a J. J. Newberry Company employee.
She was a member of the Anderson Christian Church and the Church Builders Sunday School Class, the retired Angels and the Fox Creek Homemakers.
She was a graduate of Western High School and had attended Transylvania University..
Survivors include three nieces, Shirley Johnson, Mrs. Jerry (Judi) Kays and Mrs. Joe (Joy) Morris; one nephew, Kent Sparrow, all of Salvisa. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas, Buford, Kelly, Esque Sparrow, and a sister, Lula Yocum.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 16 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Vernon Huber and Bro. Jason Clark officiating. Burial was in the Fox Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jerry Kays, Joe Morris, Jonathan Kays, Kent Sparrow, John Mark Johnson, and Marshall Gash. Doug Stewart, 54, of Chula Vista, CA, formerly of Coventry, RI, died Tuesday, December 11, 2001.
Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of Florence D. (Major) Stewart-Mason of Coventry and the late Talbot Stewart.
He was the step son of Curtis W. Mason of Coventry.
He was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran having served in Vietnam. He was past Commander of the Crompton Veterans Organization in West Warwick, RI and a member of the American Legion Post 2 in West Warwick. He was presiding Junior Vice Commander of VFW Post 2111 in Chula Vista, CA.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include: his wife, Dorothy Ann Saunders Stewart, formerly of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Michele Harrington of West Greenwich; three step sons, David Chenault, Travis Chenault, and Quentin Chenault, all of West Warwick; two sisters, Charlotte Cannon, West Warwick, Carol-Lynn Gallant, Coventry; two step brothers, Curt J. Mason, Coventry and Steven Mason, Cocoa, FL; one step sister, Marjorie Misch, Calloway, FL; seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 17, at Carpenter-Jenks Quaker Lane Chapel, 659 E. Greenwich Ave., West Warwick, RI. Burial with military honors was in the Rhode Island Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter.
GLADYS BLACK
Gladys Johnson Black, 93, of Burgin, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in Stanford.
Born September 11, 1908, she was the daughter of Rasmus and Elna Persson Johnson. She was the widow of Frank Stewart Black.
Survivors include: one son, John Black, WV; and two daughters, Madrene Black Houy, Harrodsburg, and Joan Hoyt, Homer, AK; seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are incomplete at Stith Funeral Home in Danville.
ROBERT BLEVINS
Robert William Blevins, 76, of KY Hwy. 328 East in Waynesburg, died Friday, June 28, 2002 at his residence.
Born June 12, 1926 in Parnell, he was a son of the late James and Emily Miller Blevins. He was a retired stock chaser of 37 years for General Motors in Anderson, IN. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
He was a World War II navy veteran and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: his wife, Glenda Ball Blevins, Waynesburg; three sons, Robert Alan (Marty) Blevins, Anderson, IN, Charles Michael (Leslie) Morgan, Harrodsburg, David Justin Blevins, Waynesburg; five daughters, Linda Catt, Terre Haute, IN, Darlene (Gail) Layman, Anderson, IN, Sue (Ed) Johnson, Marion, IN, Ida Ellen (Allen) Roberts, Burgin, and Stephanie Lynn Blevins, Waynesburg; three brothers, Oscar (Delphi) and Jess Blevins, both of New Castle, IN, Marion (Delores) Blevins, Spiceland, IN; two sisters, Delcie Decker, Louisville, and Eva Hollars, New Castle, IN; two sisters-in-law, Mary and Clarice Blevins, both of New Castle, IN; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Dide, Frank, France and Columbus Blevins and one sister, Stella Ross.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 2, at Barnett and Demrow Funeral Home in Waynesburg, with Bro. Vola Brown officiating. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert A. Blevins, Charles Morgan, Alan Layman and Derek Catt.
NANCY BREENE
Nancy Blackford Taylor Breene, 82, 495 Garriott Lane, died Sunday, June 30, 2002 at her residence.
Born August 15, 1919 in Richmond, VA, she was the daughter of the late William Hardy and May Blackford Robertson Taylor. She was the widow of Daniel Almen Breene.
She was a housewife, gardener and was a member of the Carpenter’s Christian Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, N. Taylor “Tay” Breene, Harrodsburg; one son, Daniel Almen Breene Jr., Portland, OR; five grandchildren, Cynthia Lauren Breene, Katherine Ann Breene, James S. Bennet Reid, Taylor Breene Reid and Caroline Kelsay Reid; one great-grandchild, Mason C. Yeast. She was preceded in death by a son, James Breene, a brother, William Taylor Jr., two sisters, Mary Hardy Sanderson and May Robertson Russell.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 5, at the Carpenter’s Christian Church with Rev. Don Hill officiating.
