Charles E. Cox, 65, of 123 Lester, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at Rockcastle Respiratory Care Center in Mt. Vernon.
Born August 23, 1936 in Gas City, IN, he was the son of the late Herschel T. and Maggie L. King Cox.
He was a retired equipment operator for International Harvester.
Survivors include: one son, Jerry Cox, Miami, FL; three daughters, Betty Smock, Tracy Hume and Linda Tarter, all of Harrodsburg; one brother, Harley T. Cox, Valejo, CA; two sisters, Bonnie Burns and Barbara Krull, both of Columbia City, IN; four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Cox.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 30, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kevin Smock, Mike Tarter, Scott Tarter, Scott Robertson, Larry Parker and Eddie Snyder. Honorary bearers were Kevin Smock Jr. and Greg Hume.
MILDRED STRATTON
Mildred Florence Stratton, 65, of Adams Lane, died Sunday, June 30, 2002 at the Ephraim McDowell Medical Center in Danville.
Born October 15, 1936 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Cue and Georgia Ella Raley Phillips.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: her husband, Jerry Gilbert Stratton, Harrodsburg; one son, Roy Baugh, Stanford; one daughter, Georgia Hartman, Stanford; five step children; one brother, Cue Phillips Jr., Harrodsburg; four sisters, Barbara Pittman and Carolyn Pittman, both of Harrodsburg, Pauline Abney, TN and Dora Edwards, Lexington; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dean C. Phillips, and a son, Dudley Melvin Baugh.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 3, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Harley Humfleet and James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeff Raider, Fred Raider, Steve Cheatham, Roy Baugh Jr., Steve Allen Pittman and Ronald Edwards. Honorary bearers were Dewayne Stratton, Anthony Stratton, John Baker, Will Pelly and David Clark Jr.
BASIL ABNER
Basil “Jack” Abner, 63, of Perryville Road, died Monday, July 8, 2002 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born December 25,1938 in Clay County, he was the son of Elva Jones Abner of Harrodsburg and the late Malcolm Abner.
He was a retired Square D employee where he worked for 42 years. He enjoyed farming, fishing and deer hunting.
Survivors include: his wife, Sara “Libby” Byrd Abner, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Jan Wiley, Harrodsburg; one brother, Alvie Abner, Lawrenceburg; one grandson, Zachary Wiley, Harrodsburg. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Abner and Raymond Abner, and one sister, Janet Abner.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Rev. James Byrd officiating.
Pallbearers will be Robert Bailey, Larry Cox, David Shewmaker, Daryl Catlett, James Dunn, Henry Grall, Shane Williams and Robert Smith. Honorary bearers will be Glenn Fallis, Clarence Byrd, Elwood Byrd, Ronnie Byrd, Junior Sanders, Ralph Byrd and Clifford Grimes.
Visitation from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.
SARAH AMMERMAN
Sarah Elizabeth Gillespie Ammerman, 82, of Cynthiana, died Monday, July 8, 2002 at the Harrison Memorial Hospital.
Born August 26, 1919 in Scott County, she was a daughter of the late Eddie and Myrtle Teegarden Gillespie. She was the widow of George Givens Ammerman.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Unity Christian Church.
Survivors include: four sons, Givens (Mattie) Ammerman, Bourbon County, James Ammerman, Cynthiana, Gerald (Janie) Ammerman, Scott County, David (Connie) Ammerman, MI; three daughters, Judith (Wayne) Ware, Mercer County, Sarah Susan Ammerman, IL, Connie (William) Horn, Cynthiana; one brother, John W. Gillespie, Boone County; one sister, Goldie Stalts, CO; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 10, at the Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home in Cynthiana, with Bro. Gene Kitts and Bro. Jim Hutchinson officiating. Burial was in the Battle Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandchildren. GEORGIA BROWN
Georgia Brown, 81, of 123 West Main Street, Burgin, died Saturday, July 6, 2002 at Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born October 20, 1920 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Mae Green Hager.
She was owner/operator of Brown Ceramic Shop in Burgin and attended Southside Christian Church.
Survivors include: her husband, John D. Brown, Burgin; one son, Donald Bruce Brown, Burgin; one daughter, Bonnie Peavler, Harrodsburg; one sister, Edna Ball, Burgin; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 9, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Brackie Willoughby officiating. Burial was in Burgin Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Jones, George Hensley, Virgil “A. J.” Green, Joe Green, C. W. Green and Holly Chilton.
RICHARD DONOVAN
Richard J. Donovan Sr., 92, of Riverside Avenue died Wednesday, July 3, 2002 in Ridgewood Court Nursing Home, Attleboro, MA.
Born in Attleboro, MA, March 14, 1910, he was the son of the late Jerome and Catherine O’Brien Donovan. He was the widower of Annie Murphy Donovan.
He had served in the Army for over 30 years, retiring as a master sergeant. He was the recipient of the Victory Medal, a Bronze Service Star for the Rhineland Campaign, the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon and the Korean Service Medal.
He had also received the Good Conduct Medal, the Ardennes Campaign Medal, the National Defense Medal and U. N. Service Medal.
He had earlier served as a first sergeant with the National Guard, Attleboro, MA, Company I.
He was a member of the Attleboro Moose Club, American Legion Post 312 and member and past chaplain of the Gilbert Perry VFW Post 115.
Survivors include: eight sons, Richard Donovan Jr., Michael Donovan, Patrick Donovan, Timothy Donovan, Terrence Donovan and Brian Donovan, all of Attleboro, MA; John Donovan of Fayetteville, NC and Kevin Donovan of North Attleboro, MA; four daughters, Kathleen Hathaway, Norton, MA, Barbara Donovan, Attleboro, MA, Patricia Patterson, Harrodsburg, and Nancy Crabtree, St. Charles, MO; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Bullock.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 7, at the Foley-Hathaway Funeral Home, 126 S. Main St., Attleboro, MA, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s Church, 208 S. Main St., Attleboro. Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to St. Andrew Catholic Church building fund.
ANNA FREEMAN
Anna Lee Mann Freeman, 80, of Donna Drive, Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, July 6, 2002 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born February 26, 1922 in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late Ellis and Hallie Lathrem Mann.
She was a member of the Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church and the New Hope Sunday School class. She was a former Sunday School teacher for over 30 years and a former Bible School teacher.
Survivors include: her husband, James Wheeler Freeman, Lawrenceburg; two daughters, Phyllis Ann Freeman (Jerry) Wilson, Harrodsburg, Shirley Lee Freeman Tierney, Lexington; two sons, James Wheeler (Alison) Freeman Jr., Greensboro, NC, Keith (Kim ) Freeman, Lexington; two brothers, Kenneth (Anna Belle) Mann, Lawrenceburg, James (Fern) Mann, Nicholasville; two sisters, Edna (Henry) Witten, Versailles, and Patsy (Bill) Taylor, Lexington; 13 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Flora Mae Coomer, and two brothers, Harold Mann and Ellis Mann Jr.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 9, at the Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church with Dr. Greg Burton and Bro. Jeff Eaton officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Henry Lee (Hantie) Hines, 70, of 225 E. Sixth Street, Lexington, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, July 6, 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born October 16, 1931 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late James Edward Hines and Mary L. Bradshaw Hines Chenault.
He was a graduate of West Side High School, a veteran of the U. S. Navy and a retired factory worker for Corning, Inc. of Harrodsburg.
He was a member of St. Peter AME Church.
Survivors include: one son, Craig Lamont Hines, Campbellsville; three daughters, Frances Yates Davidson, Harrodsburg, Robin R. Hines, Campbellsville, and Kellie Grace Napier, Harrodsburg; one brother, E. P. Reed, Harrodsburg; one sister, Bessie VanDyke Henderson, Harrodsburg; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Edward Hines.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 10, at the St. Peter AME Church with Rev. Jason R. Curry officiating. Burial with military rites was held in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Fred Bottoms, Glenn Walker, Samuel Bess, James Bryant Jr., James Boyd and Norman Bartleson. Honorary bearers were James Yeast, Gary Walker, Andy Harris, and Leon Steele.

KATHERINE LOGUE
Katherine Merriman Logue, 81, of Stanford House Nursing Home, Stanford, died Friday, July 5, 2002, at Stanford House.
Born June 29, 1921, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Amanda Merriman. She was the widow of James A. Logue.
She was a retired employee of Palm Beach Company, a former employee of Mercer Dress Company and a provider of private duty nursing care.
She was a member of the Danville-Boyle County Senior Citizens Center and a member of the Harrodsburg Community Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Debbie A. Talley, Danville; one brother, James Merriman, Middletown, OH; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 9, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home, Danville, with Rev. Billy Brown, Rev. Terry Morrison and Rev. Everett Priddy officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery, Danville.
Pallbearers were James M. Teague, Troy A. Teague, Joshua D. Wilcher, Gerald Merriman, Greg Crabtree and Matt East. Honorary bearers were Dr. Bacon Moore, Dr. Narendra James, staff of Stanford House Nursing Home and staff and members of Danville-Boyle County Senior Citizens Center.
