Julia May Cornelius Speer, 93, from Rotonda West, FL, died Monday, August 12, 2002 at the hospital in Englewood, FL.
Born December 19, 1908 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Richard S. and Bettie Devine Cornelius. She was the widow of Harold C. Speer.
She was a homemaker, a member of Eastern Star in Indianapolis, IN and attended Rotonda West Community Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Carolyn Jean (Joseph) Brower of Rotonda West, FL; one sister, Lyda Todd, Harrodsburg; two brothers, Dan Cornelius, Harrodsburg, and Jack Cornelius, Lawrenceburg; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Fred, Robert, Howard, John, James and Richard Cornelius, and two sisters, Evelyn Ellis and June Grivetti.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, August 20, at the Rotonda West Community Church with Rev. Edison Brooker officiating. National Cremation, Port Charlotte, FL was in charge of arrangements.

GLADYS BRYANT
Gladys Christine Pope Bryant, 71, of Oberlin, OH, died Sunday August 18, 2002 in Oberlin.
Born October 23, 1930 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late George Leonard and Ora Kimberlin Pope. She was the widow of James E. Bryant.
She was a homemaker, a graduate of West Side High School and attended cosmetology school in Paducah.
Survivors include: two sons, James (Doretta) Bryant, of NJ, and Howard Bryant of FL; two sisters, Mattie Cunningham, Harrodsburg, and Madge Taylor, Louisville; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lenora Bryant; one sister, Mary Ellen Pope, and one brother, Paul Schofield Pope.
Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 23, at the First Baptist Church, Second and Walnut Streets in Danville. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Harrodsburg.
Smith-Jackson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
WARREN BUTLER
Warren L. “Butchie” Butler, 58, of North College Street, died Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born September 22, 1943 in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Clealen and Annie LouAllen Butler.
He was a painter, a U. S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam and was a member of the Magnolia Street Christian Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Arnetta Smith Butler, Harrodsburg; two stepsons, Keith and Wayne Taylor, both of Mercer County; one brother, William J. Butler, Boyle County; two sisters, Shirley Gregory and Wanda Isham, both of Harrodsburg; six step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gene, Durwood and Allen Butler, and two sisters, Thelma Weldon and Virginia Robinson.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 23, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Glenn Daugherty officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Terry Gregory, Ronnie Butler, Mike Butler, Randy Butler, James Groce, and Joe Monroe.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Right to Life of Central Kentucky, the American Cancer Society, or the WDFB Christian Radio in Danville.
EARL DEAN SR.
Wilbur “Earl” Dean Sr., 89, of 596 Hopewell Road, died Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at his residence.
Born August 2, 1913 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Miller B. Sr. and Mabel F. Egbert Dean. He was the widower of Georgia Sanders Dean.
He was an attorney at law for Dean, Dean and Dean law office and was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church where he was the Sunday School teacher for the Bethany Class for 20 years.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Oleika Shrine Temple and the Mercer, Kentucky and American Bar Associations. He was also a member of the American Judicature Society.
Survivors include: one son, Lee M. Dean, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Adele Greenburg and Judy Burks, both of Harrodsburg; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, W. Earl Dean Jr. and Hadden Dean Sr.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 23, at the Harrodsburg Christian Church, with Phil Williams and Walter Patrick officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Greenburg, Matt Burks, Hadden Dean, Earl Patrick Dean, Ted Dean and Kenny Caudill. Honorary bearers were Elizabeth Trisler, members of the Bethany Sunday School class and members of area bar associations.
Memorials are suggested to Harrodsburg Christian Church or the Mercer County Senior Citizens.

R. C. HENSON
R. C. Henson, 62, of Man-O-War Drive, died Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
Born March 25, 1940 in Manchester, he was the son of Sarah Mitchell Henson of Berea and the late Reece Henson.
He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Waco, was the owner of Henson’s Carpet in Harrodsburg and was an avid sports fan. He loved playing rook and fishing.
In addition to his mother, survivors include: his wife, Carolyn Brock Henson, Harrodsburg; four sons, Greg, Mark and Kevin Henson, all of Harrodsburg, and Doug Henson of Berea; two sisters, Gladys Grant, Daytona Beach, FL and Sharon Bullock, Brodhead; eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jason Henson, a grandson, Gabriel Paul Henson, and a brother, Woodrow Henson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 24, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Jason Clark officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Doug Henson, Dwayne Henson, Bobby Gene Henson, Ricky Guillen, Jason Guillen and James Paul Murray. Honorary bearers were Jim Burns, Tony Revel, Tony McGuire, Jerry Mattingly and Quincy Huff.

LOLA HEPTLEY
Lola VonLinger Heptley, of Moores Lane, died Wednesday, August 21, 2002 in Junction City.
Born June 30, 1925 in Russell Springs, she was the daughter of the late James Silas and Caroline Black VonLinger. She was the widow of Jack P. Heptley.
She was a former product inspector for the RCA Corporation and a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: two sisters, Louise Walls, Danville, and Parlee Tillett, Crab Orchard; a special nephew, Phillip Conatser, Perry, GA, and a special friend, Marie Riggle of Junction City. She was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 23, at the Fox Funeral Home in Stanford, with Bro. Gary Story officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford.
Memorials are suggested to The American Cancer Society and Heritage Hospice.
IRENE LOGUE
Irene Tate Logue, 83, of Perryville, died Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born November 14, 1918 in Marion County, she was the daughter of the late Jason and Lottie Webb Tate. She was the widow of Elmer Logue.
Survivors include: one daughter, Doris Smith, Danville; one brother, Rue Logue, Danville; two sisters, Ruby Osborne, Springfield, and Georgie Barnett, Mackville; two brothers, Ray Tate of Lebanon and Jason Tate, Jr. of Lexington.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville with Rev. John Watts officiating.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 28, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
BOBBI NOEL
Bobbi Noel, 68, of North Greenville Street, died Monday, August 26, 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born July 20, 1934 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Henry and Nannie Bell Peach Noel. He was the widower of Katie Whitis Noel.
He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, former owner of Bob’s Pool Room in Harrodsburg and an antique, coin and knife collector.
Survivors include: one sister, Betty (Billy Joe) Hill, Harrodsburg; and one brother, Hunter Noel of Harrodsburg.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, August 28, at Spring Hill Cemetery with Bro. James Harley officiating.
Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
RALPH ROSS
Ralph Edward Ross, 70, of 1050 Briarwood, Lawrenceburg, died Friday, August 23, 2002 at Heritage Hall Care Center in Lawrenceburg.
Born January 26, 1932 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William Ross and Christine Phillips Ross.
He was a 1950 graduate of Harrodsburg High School and attended Eastern Kentucky University.
He was a retired sergeant and detective with the Kentucky State Police after serving for 27 years.
He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War, was a member of the VFW Post #4075 in Frankfort, the American Legion and the Alton Baptist Church.
He was an avid golfer, traveler, fisherman, snow skier and card player.
Survivors include: two daughters, Connie (Bruce) Thompson, Lawrenceburg, and Christie (Rick) Knori, Jackson, WY; three sisters, Sarah Black and Shirley Ross, both of Harrodsburg, and Thelma (Dr. Thomas) Hobbs, Lexington; one brother, Lynn Ross, Taylorsville; three grandchildren, Christopher Ross Thompson, Kyle Richard and Jaclyn Grace Knori. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob Ross Knori, and sister, Vernice Million.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 27, at the Ritchie-Peach-Todd Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Floyd Scott, Jim Huggins and Don Powers speaking. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with military honors.

JESSIE TAYLOR
Jessie “Louise” Taylor, 73, of 372 Fairview Road, died Sunday, August 25, 2002 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born June 16, 1929 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Cora Reed Davis.
She was a homemaker and a member of Grapevine Christian Church where she was the organist for many years.
Survivors include: her husband, Bruce Edward Taylor, Harrodsburg; two sons, Danny and Barry Taylor, both of Harrodsburg; one sister, Marshall Houchens, Austin, IN; one half-sister, Ruby Adkinson Morgan, IN; four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 28, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Claude Waldridge officiating. Burial was in the Grapevine Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Travis Taylor, Todd Taylor, Stephen Taylor, David Taylor, Billy C. Taylor and John David Taylor. Honorary bearers were Leslie Williams, Calvin Chrisman and Marsdon Lake.
