Born October 23, 1938 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Robert and Hester Sanders Springate.
Survivors include: two sisters, Adeline York, Bullitt County, and Kathleen Sprowl, Jefferson County; one aunt and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at the chapel after 11:00 a.m. Friday.
Memorial services will beheld at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 6, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

BEULAH PLUMMER
Beulah Mae Bradley Clay Plummer, 83, of Ashland, formerly of Cincinnati, died, Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility in Ashland.
Born May 17, 1919 in Clark County, she was the daughter of the late Curtis and Anna Lee Bradley. She was the widow of Kenneth A. Clay and Walter T. Plummer.
She was former Minister of Visitation for the First United Methodist Church, in Ashland with 25 years of service. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Ashland, the Methodist Women’s Group, and a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College.
Survivors include: one daughter, Carolyn Jeanne Conrad Pinson, Williamson, WV; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James Prewitt Clay, two brothers, Morris and John Bradley, and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Bradley.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 30, at the First United Methodist Church, Ashland, with Rev. Dale Carden, Dr. Bill Moore, Rev. Harold Dorsey and Walter William Turner Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Winchester Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandchildren.

AVANELL PYLE
Avanell Craig Pyle, 88, of Arnold Towers, Danville, died Wednesday, November 27, 2002, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born December 30, 1913 in Muhlenberg County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Howard and Agnes Irene Hendricks Craig. She was the widow of James Ivan Pyle.
She was a retired licensed beautician having worked for Embry’s Hair Salon in Lexington and for many years owned Avanell’s Antiques in Lincoln and Boyle counties.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a horsewoman and raised standard bred horses with her husband and continued after his death at Violet Slope Farm, Hustonville.
She was a graduate of Graham High School and attended Western Kentucky University.
Survivors include: one daughter, Haldis E. Pyle, Ypsilanti, MI; two sons, James Lee Pyle, Harrodsburg, and Charles Howard Pyle, Stanford; two; sisters, Daphne Baker, Dayton, OH, and Imogene Tinkle, Greenville; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 1, at Stith Funeral Home with Dr. Lance A. Perry officiating. Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chris Pyle, Brian Pyle, Craig Pyle, Robin Applegate, Todd Kirkpatrick and Tony Finley.
Donations are suggested to Heritage Hospice.
MILTON STUMPF
Milton C. Stumpf, 66, of Bellows Mill Road, died Monday, December 2, 2002 at his residence.
Born November 12, 1936 in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of La Donna Plunkett Stumpf, Harrodsburg, and the late Chalmers L. Stumpf.
He was a retired truck driver for MCS Enterprises, a Kentucky Colonel a member of the NRA.
Survivors include: his wife, Catherine M. Stumpf, Harrodsburg; one son, David Stumpf, North Ridgeville, OH; one daughter, Laura Wagoner, Elyria, OH; one sister, Deanna L. Schweter, Cleveland, OH; four grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, December 4, at the St. Andrew Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Muench officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

HUGH BLACK
Hugh “Freddie” Black, 57, of New Dixville Road, died Wednesday, December 4, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington.
Born February 5, 1945 in Cincinnati, he was the son of Hugh E. and Mildred Dean Hayes Black of Harrodsburg.
He was a retired contractor and a former employee of Bruce Hale Home Improvement Company.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: one daughter, Sabrina Stryker, Harrodsburg; one stepdaughter, Rhonda Fowler Peavler, Lexington; two brothers, Kenneth R. Black and Rick W. Black, both of Harrodsburg; and two granddaughters.
Funerals services were held Saturday, December 7, by Rev. Jack Guerin. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

STERLING BUGG
Sterling Lowe Bugg, 82, of Oxnard, CA, died Sunday, December 8, 2002, at his residence.
Born June 12, 1920 in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Thomas Allen and Zanie Lowe Bugg.
He was a 1939 graduate of Harrodsburg High School and received his B. S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky in 1944. He was a materials engineer with the Kentucky Highway Department from 1945-46 and served as instructor and assistant rofesssor of civil engineering at the University of Florida, Gainesville.
He was a fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers and served as president of the Tri-county Chapter from 1958-63. He was a member of The Society of the Sigma Xi and had served as Ventura County chapter president.
He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the 5th Construction Battalion.
Survivors include: his wife, Elizabeth B. Bugg, Oxnard, CA; one daughter, Dr. Nancy (Wayne) Kulig, Fairfax County, VA; two sons, Robert Bugg, Davis, CA, and Richard Dale Bugg, Orlando, FL; two brothers, Marvin Bugg and Warren Bugg.
MARY CARTER
Mary Jewell Carter, 63, of 1611 Bonds Mill Road, Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, December 7, 2002 at her residence.
Born July 25, 1939 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of Margaret Leathers, Lawrenceburg, and the late William Frederick Drury.
She was a retired employee of Kentucky State Government in the Child Support Division and a former employee of Hallmack where she had worked 19 years.
She was a member of Sand Spring Baptist Church and the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include: her husband, Roy O. Carter, Lawrenceburg; one son, Freddy (Bonnie) Carter; and a daughter, Janet Carter, both of Lawrenceburg; one sister-in-law, Mary Anna Drury, Lawrenceburg; three sisters, Mrs. G. W. (Shirley) Jenkins, Mrs. Ray (Emma Jean) Caldwell, both of Lawrenceburg, and Mrs. Anthony (Judy) Gash, Burgin; one brother, Garland Leathers, Salvisa; two grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Oscar Drury.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 10, at the Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Dr. Mike Hamrick officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Troy Robinson, Donald Dotson, Marc Carter, Clarence Sharp Jr., Elsby Robinson, Bob Riddle, James Allen Hawkins and Barry Robinson. Honorary bearers were members of the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class of Sand Spring Baptist Church.

AUDREY COX
Audrey Wheeler Cox, 77, of 816 Bellows Mill Road, Harrodsburg, KY died December 3, 2002 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, KY.
She was born February 25, 1925 in Buffalo, NY and was the daughter of R. V. and Sybil York Wheeler, who came to this country from England after World War One.
She served her country in the U.S. Naval Hospital Corps during World War Two. In 1959 she was the victim of a drunken driver. After being unconscious for five weeks and many more weeks of hospital care and therapy, our prayers were answered. She was able to resume being a loving mother and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 grandson.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Thomas E. Cox, daughters Audrey Ormerod of Bosnia, Beverly Breyette of Louisville, sons Thomas W. Cox of Winston-Salem, NC and Logan K. Cox of Seoul, Korea. 5 granddaughters, a great-grand daughter and 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Audrey bequeathed her body to University of Louisville School of Medicine. A celebration of life will be held at the Harrodsburg Christian Church, Sunday, December 15, 2002 in the fellowship hall from 12 to 1 p.m., service to begin at 12:15. MARK CRAIG
Mark Steven Craig, 41, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, December 1, 2002 at his residence.
Born November 30, 1961 in Louisville, he was the son of Lois Tucker Craig of Danville and Robert L. Craig of Lancaster.
He was a graduate of Danville High School and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, Danville.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: one son, Ryan M. Craig, Lexington; one brother, Rodney S. Craig, Danville; one sister, Yvonne Hatfield, Stanford, and his girlfriend, Anne Marie Thornton, Harrodsburg.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 1, with Rev. Clyde Strunk officiating. Burial was in Old Liberty Cemetery in Bradsfordsville.
Pallbearers were Colin Shepperson, Greg Crawford, Jimmy Houston, Mike Estes, Micky Preston and Chuck Brackett.

ROY ESKRIDGE
Roy E. Eskridge, 62, of 913 Riverside Drive, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born August 15, 1940 in Glen Dean, he was the son of Eva Lewis Sims, Harrodsburg, and the late Morris Eskridge.
He was a millwright for International Harvester in Louisville and was a former employee of Famco in Louisville and Baker Perkins, Inc., Saginaw, MI.
He was an army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include: his stepfather, Dewitt Sims, Harrodsburg; his stepmother, Dorothy Conder, Breckinridge County; one stepson, Charles Pasafume, Louisville; a stepbrother, Kenneth Eskridge, Breckinridge County; one sister, Charlotte St. Clair, Lake City, FL; two stepsisters, Brenda Eskridge and Cathy Mattingly, both of Breckinridge County.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, December 12, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bob Jones officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the chapel from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
