Elsie Roberta Carey Burton, 78, formerly of 1356 Wolf Pen Road, Pendleton, KY, died Monday, February 14, 2000 at Hospice of Cincinnati.
Born October 28, 1921 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Lula McGrath Carey. She was the widow of Arnold Lee Burton.
She was a member of the Delhi Baptist Church, Cincinnati, OH.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Harold (Jacci) Bedenbaugh, Cincinnati, OH; two sons, Kenneth W. Burton, Lexington, and Ronald L. (Karen) Burton, Marietta, GA; one brother, Rubert (Jean) Carey, Cincinnati; three sisters, Mary Ellen Fletcher, Cincinnati, Corinee Neeley, Chesapeake, VA and Betty (Curt) Hubbard, Pendleton; four grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 16, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Terry Morrison officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Matt Bedenbaugh, Adam Bedenbaugh, Jason Burton, Joshua Burton, Jerry Freeman and Mike Howard.
GLENN BRADSHAW
Glenn Lewis Bradshaw, 74, of 350 Bradshaw Road, Burgin, died Monday, February 14, 2000 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born January 26, 1926 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Jesse and Beulah Miller Bradshaw.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a graduate of Centre College where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
He was a retired farmer and active in the Mercer County 4-H Tractor Safety School.
Survivors include: his wife, Phyllis Bowman Bradshaw, Burgin; two sons, Charles Lewis Bradshaw and David Bowman Bradshaw, both of Burgin; one brother, Dr. Harold Woodson Bradshaw, Louisville.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 20, at 2:00 p.m. at the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. Les Rust.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church.

BIRDIE SALISBURY
Birdie W. Smith Salisbury, 81, of Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown, NY, formerly of Mercer County, died Tuesday, February 8, 2000 at her residence.
Born July 11, 1919 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Claud and Emma Viola Durr Smith.
She was a homemaker and was active in Christian work. She was a Sunday School teacher and member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church, Pierrepont Manor, for over 40 years.
Survivors include: her husband, George Salisbury, Watertown, NY; two sons, Bruce (Bette) Salisbury, Schenectady, NY, David P. Salisbury, Lacona, NY; two daughters, Barbara Bennett, Spartansburg, SC, Darlene Kellogg, Newark, NJ; three sisters, Effie Savage and Blanch Releford, Harrodsburg, Elsie Driskell, Salvisa; one brother, Kenneth Smith, Junction City; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, George Leon Salisbury; two brothers, Truman and Russell Smith; one sister, Bessie Bast.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 11, at the Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek, NY with Rev. Warren Babcock officiating.
Spring burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Mannsville, NY.

WILLARD STEELE
Willard Steele, 79, of 318 Longview, Nicholasville, died Monday, February 14, 2000 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born January 23, 1921 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Clarence and Anna Bell Beckham Steele.
He worked as a painting contractor and was a member of Pioneer Baptist Church.
He served in the army in World War II.
Survivors include: his wife, Joyce Steele, Nicholasville; two sons, Jimmy (June) Steele, Louisville, Willard "Butch" Steele, Jr., Harrodsburg; three daughters, Trudy (Billy) Treadway and Mary (Charles) Jennette, both of Lexington, Marlena (Phillip) Murphy, Nicholasville; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2000, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Willie Laswell officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with military rites.
Pallbearers will be Billy Ray Treadway Jr., Kevin Scott Treadway, Charles Jennette Jr., Jimmy C. Steele, Mark A. Steele and Chad Steele. Honorary bearers will be Ronald Stinnett, Phillip Murphy and David Willoughby.
Memorials are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation.
Visitation from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and prior to service on Thursday.
BETTY CIESA
Betty J. Ciesa, of Nashville, TN, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, February 16, 2000 in Nashville.
She was a former owner of Stone Manor Motel and Cardinal Motel for many years.
Survivors include: two daughters, Gail Banasiak, Nashville, TN and Jean Furness, Kennesaw, GA; two sons, Doug Ciesa, Nashville, TN, and Jack Ciesa, Akron, OH; one sister, Lynne Downs, Cincinnati, OH; two grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, February 19, in the chapel of Brentwood Funeral Home, 9010 Church St., E., Brentwood, TN 37027.
Private interment was in Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

J. D. CRAWLEY
John David Crawley, 64, of 4858 Bohon Road, died Thursday, February 17, 2000 at his residence.
Born July 15, 1935 in Fayette County, he was the son of Manford Crawley of Salvisa, and the late Ollie Douglas Crawley.
He was a former maintenance superintendent of Hallmack for 19 ½ years and then owned and operated a machine shop in Salvisa.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include: his wife of 46 years, Barbara Darland Crawley, Harrodsburg; two sons, David W. Crawley, Salvisa and Scott (Linda) Crawley, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Sharon (Stuart) Risden, Salvisa; two brothers, Royce L. Crawley and Ronald D. Crawley, Scott County; five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 20, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Jack Geurin officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bud Isham, Arvid Tackett, Walter Wayne, Casey Brown, Joe Stine and Kenny Sims. JOSEPH CRAIG
Joseph Henry Craig, 81, of Daugherty Road in Danville, died Saturday, February 20, 2000 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor.
Born April 30, 1918 in Boyle County, he was the son of the late William Albert and Virginia Belle Worthington Craig.
He was a retired maintenance supervisor for the Kentucky School for the Deaf, a member of the Alum Springs First Church of God and was predeceased by a previous wife Mildred Freeman Craig.
Survivors include: his wife, Christine Daugherty Craig; one son, Bobby Joe Craig, Danville; one brother, Dewey Craig, Ft. Myers, FL; one sister, Martha Crowe, Junction City; four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 23, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by Rev. Keith Willoughby. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
KENNETH HOURIGAN
Kenneth Mason Hourigan, 87, of 1395 Shakertown Road, died Saturday, February 19 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born December 24, 1912 in Marion county, he was the son of the late Robert and Clydie Rexroad Hourigan.
He was a former Harrodsburg Policeman for eight years, was a former Mercer county deputy sheriff and had served as Mercer County sheriff from 1973-1977.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, where he was a prisoner of war and a survivor of the Bataan Death March. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, and a former member of the Kentucky Sheriff's Association.
He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church and was a retired farmer.
Survivors include: his wife, Sally Ann Tyler Hourigan, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Carolyn Hourigan Brown, Louisville; two brothers, Horace Hourigan, Harrodsburg, and Thomas Hourigan, Springfield,; two sisters, Mary Helen Zeliff, Harrodsburg, and Ruth Sims, Williamsburg, OH; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 23, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial with military rites was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Billy Joe Hill, James Tewmey, Phillip Hockensmith, J. S. "Bugs" Kinder, David Sims, Lee Allen and F. O. Ritchey.
NELLIE THARPE
Nellie B. Tharpe, 94, of 478 Merriman Avenue, died Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born August 24, 1905 in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Nora Adams Broughton. She was the widow of Jesse David Tharpe.
She was retired from the former Kentucky State Hospital and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Jessie Tharpe Jr., Danville, Everette Tharpe, Harrodsburg, and Duke Tharpe, Lawrenceburg; five daughters, Silvia Tharpe, Louisville, Lucille Rocknow, Chicago, IL, Violet Japson, Salvisa, Wilma Lucas, Harrodsburg, Mildred Underwood, Danville; one brother, Clyde Broughton, Samuels; one sister, Beulah Lamb, Frankfort; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 18, at the Ransdell funeral Chapel with Robert DeFoor and James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Zack Underwood, David Tharpe, Keith Lucas, James Mitchell Jr., Bill Broughton and Donnie Broughton.
EFFIE RILEY
Effie Gordon Riley, 90, of Grand Court, Bristol, VA, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, February 17, 2000 at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol.
Born November 22, 1909 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Hutchinson and Effie Williams Gordon.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: her husband of 69 years, Roy Lee Riley, Bristol, VA; one daughter Mrs. Tom (Susan Riley) Faucette, Bristol; three nieces.
Grave side services were conducted Tuesday, February 22, in Spring Hill Cemetery by Rev. Les Rust.
Pallbearers were Harold Davis, Joe Gill, Andrew Alexander, Tom Moore, Tony Gray and Howard Howells.
