Mary Elizabeth Keller Keynton, 95, died Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at St. Francis Nursing Center in Newport News, VA.
She was a native of Harrodsburg and lived in Norfolk, VA for 46 years before moving to Newport News in 1985.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie Magdalene Keller.
Survivors include: one son, Robert Joseph (Zulma) Keynton, Yorktown, VA; one brother, Charles E. Keller, Harrodsburg; two sisters-in-law, Rachel and Dula Keynton; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was the widow of Robert M. Keynton.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 6, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 116 Denbigh Blvd., Newport News, VA, with Rev. Charles Saglio officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 1833, Merrifield, VA 22116-8033.
Weymouth Funeral Home, 12746 Nettles Drive, Newport News, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
ROSELEA PEAVLER
Roselea Peaveler, 58, of Harrodsburg Health Care Manor, died Monday, February 3, 2003 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born November 17, 1944 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Garnett and Nettie Rae Satterly Peavler.
She attended Shakertown Baptist church.
Survivors include: two brothers, Glenn (Wanda) Peavler, Harrodsburg, and Garnett (Jeanie) Peavler, Jr., Garrard County.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 5, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Smith and Bro. Jack Geurin officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Monty Trower, Charley Stinnett, Bobby Joe Blacketer, Scotty Hammons, Joe Monroe and Michael Griffieth.
MARY SAYLOR
Mary Elizabeth Saylor, 74, Bonita Springs, FL, died Thursday, January 30, 2003 in Ft. Myers, FL.
Born October 5, 1928 in Burgin, she was the daughter of the late Lindsay and Mable Harris Brown.
She was a retired nurse, having worked at Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati, and was a member of the Pisgah Baptist Church in Cincinnati, and more recently a member of Estero Baptist Church in FL.
Survivors include: her husband, William A. Saylor, Bonita Springs, FL; two brothers, Worley Brown, Cincinnati, and Charles Brown, Perryville; three sisters, Velma Britvec, Mildred Spry and Juanita Meyer, all of Norwood, OH.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 5, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
MILDRED SHEPERSON
Mildred P. Sheperson, 72, of Burgin, died Thursday, January 30, 2003 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born October 30, 1930 in Jessamine County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Robert and Ruth Henninger Alcorn. She was the widow of Vincent Sheperson.
She retired after 39 years of service with Corning Glass of Harrodsburg and was a member of the Dry Branch Baptist Church.
She enjoyed reading and flowers.
Survivors include: one daughter, Julie (Gerald) Lister, Harrodsburg; one brother, Roy Alcorn, Lexington; one sister, Juanita Drury, Lexington; one granddaughter, Kimberly Brown, Danville, and one great-granddaughter, Meagan Brown, Danville.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 3, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Releford and Rev. Mark Gibbons officiating. Burial was in the Lancaster Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Barnard, Steve Brown, Scott Denson, Kenneth Sanders, Terry Yates and John Slone.
NORRIS TRUE
Norris Oneal True, 76, of Thomson Hood Veterans Center, Wilmore, died Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at his residence.
Born April 6, 1926 he was the son of the late Willie and Ollie True. He was the widower of Mary Agnes True.
He was a World War II veteran of the US Navy having served on the USS Guam in the South Pacific. He served as a Kentucky State trooper in the early 1950s.
He had been employed by Hartman Roberts Ashland Oil Distributor, R. J. Reynold’s Tobacco Company and Stratton Lumber Company, as well as farming.
He was a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church.
Survivors include: four daughters, Bobbie Lois Goss, Louisville, Frankie (Harold) Moore, Harrodsburg, Barbara Ann (Robert) Rogers, Lexington, and Mary Margaret (Billy) Minton, Harrodsburg; two sons, Norris Wayne (Marsha) True, Nicholasville, and Frederick Eugene (Deborah) Hale, Lancaster; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and a special friend, Loraine Minton, Burgin. He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Harold Lee Moore, Jr.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 31, at Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home with Rev. Lester Tirey, Rev. Frederick Eugene Hale, Rev. R. T. Hale and Rev. Joshua C. Hale officiating. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Pallbearers were William Moore, William Hale, Joshua Hale, Andrew Minton, Benjamin Miller and Aaron Rogers. Honorary bearers were Katie Chapman, Nikki Skyles, Jennifer True, Sara Hinson and Melissa Witt.

MILITARY RITES
Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted Military Rites for John B. Huffman at Spring Hill Cemetery on January 31, 2003.
Those attending were Gary Winfield, J. L. Devine, Kris Stines, Joe Harlow, Preston Burgin, Tommy Denny, Howard H. Howells, Curtis Sherrow, Lucian Landers and Tom Rappleye.
Zenah Teater III served as bugler.
U. S. Air Force representative were A1st Class Jennifer Hayhurst and T. Sgt. David Schreffler.
GARNETT CARRIER
Garnett Lee Carrier, 70, of 851 S. College Street, died Sunday, February 9, 2003 at Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born May 11, 1932 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Robert and Mollie Coslow Carrier.
He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
He drove a school bus for the Mercer County Schools and was also a truck driver for the Mercer County Road Department for a number of years.
He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include: his wife, Lillian Joyce Carrier, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Diane (Ronnie) Thornton, and Jeanette Carrier, both of Harrodsburg; one son, Steven Carrier, Harrodsburg; one brother, Russell Carrier, Harrodsburg; four sisters, Mary Roberts, Geneva Phillips, Lettie Smith, all of Harrodsburg, and Beulah Smith, Lawrenceburg; seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 11, at the Fellowship Baptist Church with James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with military rites.
Pallbearers were Hollis Carrier, Joe Carrier, Mike Carrier, Bobby Phillips, Terry Phillips and Connie Phillips. Honorary bearers were Johnny Phillips, Danny Phillips, Loyd Phillips, Tony Young, Bill Young and Brian Steele.

MICHAEL HUGHES
Michael Lee Hughes, 39, of Pinkston Court, died Thursday, February 6, 2003 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born February 18, 1963 in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of Juanita and Leon Roy of Harrodsburg and the late George Hughes.
He collected baseball cards, Avon bottles, loved fishing and video games.
Survivors, in addition to his mother and stepfather include: one sister, Karen Mathews; two nephews, George Mathews Jr., and Adam Mathews; two nieces, Rebecca and Jessica Mathews, all of Harrodsburg; two special friends, Tommy Roy and Scottie Vaughn.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 8, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Burgin Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Mitchell Searcy, David Roy, Alex Reynolds, George Mathews, Sr., George Mathews, Jr., and Adam Mathews.
