Kentucky Marriage Records by County

BENNY RICHARDS

Benny A. Richards, 60, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, March 10, 2003 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

A native of Montgomery County, he was the son of the late William Andrew and Christine Opal Foster Richards.

He was a tile mechanic for Ball Homes.

Survivors include: one daughter, Karen Collins, Georgetown; two sons, Dennis Paul Richards and Ben Allen Richards Jr., both of Stamping Ground; three sisters, Marie Bohanan, Georgetown, Pat Zerkle, Lexington, and Barbara Turner, PA; three brothers, Robert Richards, Stamping Ground, Billy Richards, Winchester, and Steve Richards, FL; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 14, at Clark-Sunset Funeral Home, Versailles. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Collins, Joseph Richards, Dennis Richards, David Fisher, Bob Richards and Ed Hambrick.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.

RALPH STINE

Ralph Lee Stine, 81, Handy Pike, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.

Born July 28, 1921 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Orville and Sadie Dean Stine. He was the widower of Gladys Buckley Stine.

He served with the Kentucky National Guard Unit of Harrodsburg, Company D, 192nd Tank Battalion, was inducted into active duty in the U.S. Army during WW II, was a prisoner of war and received three Bronze Stars.

He was honored in August, 1986, by the Mercer County Chamber of Commerce for his military service and received the Pioneer of Harrodsburg Award. He was a retired Kentucky Utilities employee, a member of the Burgin Baptist Church, VFW, DAV and American Legion.

Survivors include: two sons: Donnie (Betty) Montgomery and Rodney Stine, both of Burgin; five brothers: Sam Stine, Burgin, Buddy Edmonson, Lawrenceburg, Gene Edmonson, Mercer County, Marion Edmonson, Versailles; one sister: Minnie Lou Wilson, Danville, seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Stine, and two brothers, Clifton and Wayne Stine.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 8, 2002 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Jeannette Lucas and Guilford Waggener officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with Military Rites.

Pallbearers were Jeff Montgomery, Scott Shelton, Brad Murray, Joshua Stine, Andrew Stine, Tim Stine, Eric Stine and Joe Sanders.

Memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.

IRENE WILSON

Irene Wilson, 77, of 766 Beaumont Avenue, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born July 8, 1925 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Harry Lee and Josephine Lamkon Dean.

She was a retired clerk for Broaddus, Inc. and was as member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Lewis Denver Wilson, Harrodsburg; one son, Paul Gordon (Susan) Wilson, Nashville, TN; one brother, Walter Dean, Kingsport, TN; two sisters, Joyce Kessler, Louisville, and Fay Augaltis, Dayton, OH; two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 14, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Don Chase officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joe Dean, Barry Kessler, Greg Long, James Eads, Kevin Wilson and Gavin Wilson. Honorary bearers will be Dr. Ernest Estridge, Dr. Charles Hatcher, Vilas Graham and Bill Lester.

Visitation will be at the chapel from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Christian Church or to Heritage Hospice.

BARBARA WOODS

Barbara Ellen Chambers Woods, 63, of N. Moreland Place, Moreland, died Thursday, March 6, 2003 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born March 22, 1939 in Junction City, she was the daughter of the late Henry Clifton and Margaret Elizabeth Boyd Chambers.

She was a housewife and a member of the Herington Lake Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include: her husband, James L. Woods, Moreland; a daughter, Margie (Bruce) Warner, Perryville; one son-in-law, Steve Sanders, Burgin; one brother, Paul (Wanda) Chambers, Danville; four sisters, Betty Peaveyhouse, IN, Darlene Chambers, Danville, Charlotte (Don) Showalter, Stevens Point, WI, and Marlene (Dick) Douglas, Stanford; five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bernadina Sanders.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 9, at Stith Funeral Home in Danville with Rev. Steve VanHook officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford.

Pallbearers were Tony Griffin, Alan Shepherd, Tommy Mallott, Clifton Mallott, Paul Chambers II and Benny Burchett.

MILITARY RITES

Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted Military Rites for Ralph Stine at Spring Hill Cemetery on March 8, 2003.

Those attending were Kyle Pankey, Tom Rappleye, Marion Mershon, Tom Denny, Howard H. Howells, Gary Winfield, Joe Harlow, Curtis Sherrow and James Tewmey.

Zenah Teater III served as bugler.

Army representatives were Sgt 1C Aaron Young and Sgt 1C Brian Davis.

GARNETT TAYLOR
Garnett Lee Taylor, 86, of 620 N. Main Street, died Thursday, March 13, 2003 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born April 9, 1916 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Clarence and Rethea Tyler Taylor.

He was retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Wanda (Herm) Mergard, and Brenda (Tony) Gowins, both of Harrodsburg; one son, Donald Taylor, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and Everett Taylor, and one sister, Edith LaVera.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 17, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Gary Story officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

MILITARY RITES

Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted Military Rites for Clifford Lambert at Spring Hill Cemetery on March 13, 2003.

Those attending were Tom Denny, Lucian Landers, Curtis Sherrow, Gary Winfield, Joe Harlow, Marion Mershon, Preston Burgin, Tom Rappleye, Kyle Pankey, Jim Tewmey and Howard H. Howells.

Zenah Teater III served as bugler.

Army representatives were SSG Thomas L. Schulein and SSG Chauncey E. Huffman.

VEVIA BEST

Vevia Best, 96, formerly of Runyon Road, died Saturday March 22, 2003 at the Eastern Star Nursing Home in Louisville.

Born July 23, 1906 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Bob and Birdie Trower Yeast.

She was a retired supervisor, a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star #309, for 53 years.

Survivors include: three grandchildren, Tony Best, MS, Jimmy Best, Paducah, and Vevia Sue Best, Harrodsburg; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, James E. Best and Robert M. Best, and two brothers, Hugh and Lee Yeast.

Graveside services were held Monday, March 24, at Spring Hill Cemetery with Rev. Renee Mitchell officiating.

RUTH CARPENTER

Ruth Clarkson Carpenter, 83, of 1977 Craintown Road, Gravel Switch, died Thursday, March 20, 2003 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born April 13, 1919 in Marion County, she was the daughter of the late Claude Clarkson and Gertie Wright Clarkson. She was the widow of Alvin Carpenter.

Survivors include: one daughter, Annette Cocanougher, Gravel Switch; three sons, Billy Joe, Bobby, and Jerry Carpenter, all of Gravel Switch; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 23, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Buford, Barney, Kenny and Dean Carpenter, Roger Followell and Sonny Cocanougher. Honorary bearers were Mona Followell, Lindley Cocanougher, Will Cocanougher, Terry and Troy Carpenter, Monte Elliott, Donnie Smothers and Shirley Daughtery.

Expressions of Sympathy may take the form of donations to the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

ARTIE CHUMLEY
Artie Chumley, 95, of Grapevine Road, died Thursday, March 20, 2003 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care.

Born November 20, 1907 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Hattie Masters Catlett. She was the widow of Roy Chumley.

She was a homemaker, a member of Cornishville Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher and member of the WMU.

She enjoyed gardening and sewing.

Survivors include: one son, Connie (Ann) Chumley, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Mrs. Royce (Mary) Cornish, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Catlett and one grandson, Ashley Tingle.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 23, at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Readnour, Bro. Jack Geurin and Michael Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Cornishville Christian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Billy Grider, Donald Litteral, Greg Brown, George Hendrix, Logan Lynn and Shirley Turner.

FRANCIS CLARK

Francis M. Clark, Mooreland Avenue, died Sunday, March 23, 2003 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born March 10, 1930 in Nelson County, he was the son of the late Francis Mose and Mary Edna Caho Clark.

He was a retired boiler technician at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Hospital.

Survivors include: two brothers, Bruce Clark and Tom Clark, both of Louisville; three sisters, Marie Wright, Louisville, Ortha Clark, El Paso, TX and Tootie Robertson, FL.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 25, at the Battle Cemetery in Washington County, with Father Joseph Muench officiating.
