ALLIE COKE

Allie Belle Chilton Coke, 90, Mac Court, died Monday, April 7,2003 at her residence.

Born January 14, 1913 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Fred Rile and Minnie Robinson Chilton.

She was a retired employee of Sykes Carpet in Lawrenceburg and a caregiver for many years.

She was a lifetime member of the Claylick United Methodist Church and the Sunshine Sunday School class.

Survivors include: three daughters, Jeannette Carey and Minnie Morgan, Lawrenceburg, and Nancy (Lewis) Long, Lancaster; four sons, Fred (Kathleen) Coke and Thomas (Charlene) Coke, Lawrenceburg, Bruce (Landa) Coke, Henry County, and Paul (Jeanie) Coke, Spencer County; one sister, Katherine Jeffries, Lawrenceburg; one brother, Linwood (Gertrude) Chilton, Harrodsburg; 24 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and three great-great-grand-children.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Buford Lee Coke and Robert Luther Coke; one grandson, Stacy Lamar Coke, two great-grandchildren, Amanda Denise Stansbury and Anthony Carl Peach; two sisters, Elsie Ray Roark, Virgie Onita Chilton, and three brothers, Horace, Melvin and Everett Chilton.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at the Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Bro. David Fralix and Bro. Glenn Gilliam officiating. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery in Anderson County.

Visitation from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 8:00 a.m. Thursday.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Buford Lee Coke Jr., Eddie Carey, Dennie Morgan, Darren Coke, Ricky Coke, Kevin Coke, Anthony Coke and Jeff Coke. Honorary bearers will be granddaughters and grandsons.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Heritage Hospice, 337 W. Broadway, Danville, KY 40422, or Claylick United Methodist Church, 225 Claylick Road, Salvisa, KY 40372.

LUTHER HALL

Luther Hall, 67, of Longview Drive, died Saturday, April 5, 2003 at The Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born September 24,1935 in Grethel, Floyd County, he was the son of the late John and Goldie Hall.

He was a retired truck driver for Bizzack Construction Company. His hobbies included restoring old automobiles and gardening.

Survivors include: his wife, Joyce Tackett Hall, Harrodsburg; three daughters, Vickie Justice, Pikeville, Lisa Cummins, Danville, and Elizabeth Hale, Crab Orchard; three brothers, Edgar Hall and Roy Hall both of Harold, and Gary Hall, Berea; one sister, Maggie Adkins, Harold; two grandchildren, Kayla Cummins and Jordan Hale.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 8, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

JAMES HENDREN

James William “J. W.” Hendren, 65, of Willisburg, died Monday, March 31, 2003 at Norton Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

Born August 15, 1937 in Mercer County, he was the son of Ray and Beulah Isham Hendren.

He was a member of the Willisburg Church of Christ, a 1956 graduate of Mackville High School and a retired employee of the General Electric Company in Louisville.

Survivors include: his wife, Linda Carney Hendren; one son, Ricky Hendren; one daughter, Teresa Mitchell; three grandchildren, Tiffany, Brandon and Stephen Mitchell, all of Willisburg; his father, Ray Hendren, Mackville; and one sister, Joyce (Buddy) Smith, Harrodsburg. He was preceded in death by his mother, Beulah Isham Hendren, a brother, Billy Hendren, and two sisters, Flora Mae Hendren and Wanda Lee Hendren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 3, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home, Springfield, with Bro. Raymond Castillo, Bro Forrest Morris and Bro. Burnice Richardson, officiating.

Pallbearers were Buddy Smith, Arthur Harmon, Don Carney, Kenneth Carney, Jessie Carney, David Devine, Pat Mattingly and Justin Brown. Honorary bearers were Johnny Hardin, Joe Wohner, Jimmy Devine and Albert Harris.

ALVIS JAMES

Alvis Dexter “Dex” James, 32, of 1105 County Road, New Bedford, MA, died Sunday, March 31, 2003 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford.

Born May 14, 1970 in Cambridge, MA, he was the son of Jane White James, Burgin, and Robert M. James, Virginia Beach, VA.

He was a graduate of D-Y High School, attended Northeastern University and was a graduate of UMASS Amherst with a degree in communications.

He was a star track athlete both in high school and college and was a self-employed contractor, working with residential and commercial building.

He was a model, both in the United States and abroad, was a singer and entertainer and performed with several well known musical artists.

He was a member of Zion Union Church in Hyannis, MA.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: four sons, Dexter, Dairien, Dekaris and Diari James, all of MA; one sister, Aki-Tia James, Macon, GA; one brother, Mark James, Macon, GA; and his fiancée, Kelli Giovanni, New Bedford, MA.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 5, at Little Zion Baptist Church, with Bro. Philip Yates officiating. Burial was in Robinson Roe Cemetery in Burgin.

Pallbearers were Marty Parks, Wallace Parks, Jr., Alvin White, Larry Gayton, Jonathon Dunn, Raymond Dunn, Jason Dunn, Timothy Dunn, Robert James, Mark James, Chad Dunn, Christopher Dunn, Walter Dunn Jr. and Anthony Dunn.

Parks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

HENRY LAMB

Henry Lamb, 84, of 157 Cottonwood Street, died Sunday, April 6, 2003 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born July 4, 1918 in Madison County, he was the son of the late Brownie and Stella Morgan Lamb. He was the widower of Henrietta Dailey.

He was a retired construction worker and farmer.

Survivors include: two sons, Carl Lamb and Kenny Lamb; two grandchildren, Travis and Carla Lamb, all of Harrodsburg; two step grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and four step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Lester Tirey officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Dailey, Billy Anderson, Travis Lamb, Don Ray, Frankie Prather and Wesley Grant. Honorary bearers were Garnett Ruble, Bud Royalty, Ambross Calico and Bobby Ross.

JOSEPH MURPHY

Joseph Daniel Murphy, 31, of 516 Ashley Drive, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born February 10, 1972 in the Panama Canal Zone, he was the son of Daniel E. and Nancy M. Austin Murphy.

He worked for Hitachi and was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: one son, Zachary Joseph Murphy; his fiancée, Sherry Marie Preston; his grandmother, Virginia Ann Murphy; one brother, Steve (Kathy) Murphy, all of Harrodsburg; one sister, Deborah Ann (Greg) Villa, San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Wayne Murphy.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at Spring Hill Cemetery with Fr. Frank Osburg officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service conducted by Fr. Joseph Muench at 7:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Michael Burke, Mike Young, Scott Brothers, Shawn Tarter, Scottie Rawlings and Steve Murphy.

LUCILLE PINKSTON

Lucille Black Pinkston, 91, of Walnut Street, Springfield, died Friday, April 4, 2003 at Norton Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

Born March 28, 1912 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Emma Norton Black. She was the widow of Garland “Tot” Pinkston.

She was a graduate of McAfee High School.

She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church and had served as Sunday School teacher, Girl’s Auxiliary leader, Women’s Missionary Union president and was a former choir member.

She was a charter member of the Guiding Star Chapter #450, Order of the Eastern Star and was past Worthy Grand Matron of District #9. She was past president of the Springfield Woman’s Club, and a member of the Springfield Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was a former president of the Washington County Homemakers and was selected as Homemaker of the Year in 1967.

She was also associated in the family business, Pinkston Oil Company.

Survivors include: one daughter, Sandra (Joe B.) Davis; and two grandchildren, J. Ashley Davis and Anne Nicole (Jason) Flinn, all of Springfield; one sister, Dottie Smith, Harrodsburg. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Merlin Million, Doris Gamron and Beatrice Couvert, and two brothers, Byford Black and Gilbert Black.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 7, at Springfield Baptist Church with Rev. Bland Mason and Rev. Charlie O’Neal officiating. Burial was on Cemetery Hill. An Eastern Star Memorial Service was conducted on Sunday.

Pallbearers were Dr. Brian Wells, Allen Carrico, Danny Lynn, Glenn Mattingly, Greg Goatley and Lonnie Campbell. Honorary bearers were members of her Sunday School class, the Bethel Class and her friends.

DEWEY PRESTON

Dewey Lee Preston, 65, Nichols Street, Danville, died Saturday, April 5, 2003 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born October 25, 1937 in Junction City, he was a son of the late Willis and Della Garland Preston Sr.

He was a retired building contractor, an army veteran and a member of Eagles Nest Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary Ellen Devine Preston, Danville; three sisters, Mary Hillard, Harrodsburg, Judy Williams, Junction City, and Betty Hammons, Coco Beach, FL; two brothers, Willis Preston Jr., Junction City, and Cecil Preston, Danville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lee Preston and two sons, Timothy Lee Preston and Dewey Lee Preston Jr.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 8, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville, with Rev. Johnny Montgomery and Rev. Dennis Hisle Jr., officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Boyle Post #46.

Pallbearers were Pat Williams, Alford Smith, Ralph Devine, Wesley Ogle, Michael Hillard, Brian Williams, Cecil Preston and Billy Devine. Honorary bearers were Michael Lunsford, Patrick Williams II, Glen Raines, Eddie Burton, Mike Preston, Dale Preston, Doyle Williams and David Monson.

Contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

WILLIAM PRYSE

William “Tom” Pryse, formerly of Richmond, died Friday, February 7, 2003 at his home in Panama City, FL.

Born January 16, 1959 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Betty Lyen Pryse of Richmond and the late Henry Pryse.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: one brother, Joe F. (Beth) Pryse, Boston, MA and a step grandmother, Doris Lyen.

He was a retired Air Force computer technician SSgt and a graduate of Model Laboratory School.

Graveside services were held Saturday, April 5, at the Richmond Cemetery, with Father John Cavendish officiating.

Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home in Richmond was in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to one’s favorite charity.
