GEORGE CHAPMAN

George J. Chapman, 76, of Danville, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born December 8, 1926 in Clermont, OH, he was the son of the late George Andrew Chapman and Florence Mattox Chapman.

He was the construction manager of Cardinal Industries, Inc., Columbus, OH, for 10 years, and owner/operator of Chapman Plumbing and Heating for 21 years.

He was a navy veteran of World War II, a life member of the American Legion, and served 21 years with Williamsburg Township, OH Volunteer Fire Department. He was also zoning administrator of Williamsburg Township for 16 years.

He was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include: his wife, Garnetta Faye Chapman, Danville; two sons, Gregory Chapman, Cincinnati, OH and Eric Chapman, Williamsburg, OH; three stepsons, Steve Morris, Danville, Billy Dean Whittaker, Burgin, and Jesse Lee Whittaker, Versailles; one daughter, Barbara Motko, Visalia, CA and one stepdaughter, Anita Hubbard, Parksville; two stepbrothers, Thomas Chapman, Amelia, OH and Donald Chapman, Bethel, OH; one sister, Virginia Gardner, Williamsburg, OH; 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Chapman, a stepson, Michael Wayne Morris, one brother, Darril Chapman, and one sister, Wilma Jean Utterback.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 2, at Outreach Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Owens officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at Spurlin Funeral Home, Stanford.

Pallbearers will be Harold Lester, Jesse Whittaker, James Hubbard, Timmy Whittaker, Jerry Harp and Greg Chapman. Honorary bearers will be Anita Hubbard, Teresa Maddox and Charles Whitlock.

Memorials are suggested to Outreach Baptist Church Building Fund, 875 Alum Springs Road, Danville, KY 40422.

PAUL DEVINE

Paul Devine, 82, of 639 Perryville Road, died Saturday, April 26, 2003 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born October 23, 1920 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late James H. and Estill Elliott Devine.

He was a salesman for National Life and Accident Company and Berkman Feed Company.

He was a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, a member of the building committee. He was past president of the Harrodsburg Baptist Foundation and was instrumental in its formation.

He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II.

Survivors include: his wife, Louise Gash Devine, Harrodsburg; one son, Donald Paul Devine, Bowling Green; one daughter, Linda Kurtz, Danville; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 29, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor and Rick Snyder officiating, along with Mike Conover and Rev. S. Clelland Gash. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Claude Russell, Louis Kerrick, N. B. (Polie) Stratton, Wayne Mayes, Charles Johnstone, Jerry Caton and Sunday School Class Members.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Baptist Foundation, Onita Baptist Institute or the Wendell Foster Center.

WILLIAM GRAHAM

William Thomas “Will Tom” Graham, 88 of Valley Road, Danville, died Monday, April 28, 2003 at his residence.

Born Dec. 14, 1914 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Arthur L. and Bertha Royalty Graham.

He was retired from Corning Glass and was a member of Lexington Avenue Church of Christ.

Survivors include: his wife, Louise Voorhies Graham, Danville; one son, Leland Graham, Stanford; one daughter, Jonelle Sherrow, Nicholasville; two brothers, Vilas and Truman Graham, both of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 30, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home, Danville, with Steve Wolfgang and Scott Vifquain officiating.

Pallbearers were Barry and Travis Graham, Dennis Hale, Earl Adams, Steven Sherrow and Jerry Leber. Honorary bearers were deacons of Lexington Avenue Church of Christ.

ROBERT HOWELL

Robert L. Howell, 88, of 115 Curdsville Road, died Saturday, April 26, 2003 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born July 14, 1914 in Earlington, he was the son of the late Sawyer and Ruby Hewlett Howell.

He was a systems supervisor for Kentucky Utilities Company and was a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

He was an army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include: his wife, Clara Locke Howell, Harrodsburg; two sons, Robert “Bob” Howell Jr., Nicholasville, and William “Bill” Howell, Louisville; two grandchildren, Kimberly and Christy Howell. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Howell.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 28, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chris Coffman, Charles Aldridge, J. B. Sparrow, Curtis Bailey, Kenneth Kirkland, Wendell Gooch and Ron Leach.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

EDITH LOGUE

Edith Logue, 81, of 443 Larue Street, died Friday, April 25, 2003 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born November 24, 1921 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Bowman and Emma Claunch. She was the widow of Buford Logue.

She was a former employee for Sportleigh Hall and Jonathan Logan. She was a member of Benton Baptist Church.

She was predeceased by a brother, Collie C. Claunch.

Survivors include: one daughter, Rosetta (Eddie) Carey, Harrodsburg one brother, Willie Claunch; one sister, Annie Pankey; three grandchildren, Johnny (Shelly) Cox, James Carey, Stacy Carey; and two great grandchildren, all of Mercer County.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 27, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Larry Reed officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

MARIE McGUFFY

Marie McGuffey, 83, of Burlington, died Monday, April 28, 2003 at Northern Kentucky Care and Rehabilitation Center in Highland Heights.

She had formerly worked in telephone sales for Pogues Department Store and was a member of Florence Baptist Church.

Survivors, include: her husband, Harry McGuffey, Burlington; one son, Mike McGuffey, Jasper, IN; one daughter, Mendy Roebuck, Blairsville, GA; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Ft. Thomas, KY 41075-2527 or Florence Baptist Church Building Fund, 283 Main Street, Florence, KY 41042.

Stith Funeral Home, 7500 Highway 42, Florence, KY is in charge of arrangements.

ROY NORVELL

Roy Lee Norvell, 55, of 846 Bellows Mill Road, died Sunday, April 27,2003 at Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born June 7, 1947 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Raymond and Iva C. Bailey Norvell.

He was a disabled construction worker and served in the asrmy in Vietnam.

Survivors include: two sons, Mark Norvell, Florida, and Stephen Norvell, Nicholasville; two sisters, Dorothy Pulliam, Harrodsburg, and Linda Baker, Burgin; and a special friend, Darleen Young.

Graveside services were held Tuesday April 29, at Spring Hill Cemetery, with Bobby Potts officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Gideon Bible Fund.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

BEATRICE SHUEL

Beatrice “Bee” Carpenter Shuel, of Princeton, IN, died Friday, April 25, 2003 at Holiday Manor Home.

Born September 2, 1907 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Lee and Ellen Foster Carpenter. She was the widow of Max Miller Shuel.

She graduated from Perryville High School in 1926 and attended Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College. Later she taught school and has lived in Princeton since 1933.

She and her husband owned and operated Town and Country Antiques for 50 years. She was an active member in “Cherry Grove” Homemakers Club.

Survivors, include: one daughter, Jane (Ira Lee) Pittman, Cincinnati, OH; one brother, Maurice P. Carpenter, Lexington; one sister, Evelyn C. Warner, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 28, at Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Davis officiating. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Adam Piecy, Troy Watson, Robert Warner, Bennie Turner, Bobby McDaniel and Gary Rohs.

HARLEY SIMPSON

Harley K. Simpson, 74, of Parsons Lane, died Sunday, April 26, 2003 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born January 6, 1929 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Arnold and Ann Lou Wilburn Simpson. He was the widower of Ida Jewell Holt Simpson.

He was a retired farm laborer, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include: four sons, Jodie, Roy, Mark and Ricky Simpson, all of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Judy Rimer, Raywick; one sister, Mrs. Marshall (Mary) Yeaste, Cornishville; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 29, at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Easterling officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Kirkland, Randall Kirkland, David Baker, Jared Baker, Matt Roberts and Bill Hollar.

WESLEY STOLTZFUS

Wesley Stoltzfus, 73, of Bowlings Creek, died Saturday, April 26, 2003 at his residence.

Born July 20, 1929 in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Daniel and Sarah Stoltzfus.

He was a retired minister, a longtime member and pastor of Bowlings Creek Mennonite Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Martha Stoltzfus, Bowlings Creek; three sons, Steve (Becky) Stoltzfus, West Liberty, David A. (Lois) Stoltzfus, Archbold, OH, and Daniel A. (Diane) Stoltzfus, Harrodsburg; six daughters, Fern (Gerald) Metzler, Springville, AL; Rose (Phil) Swartzentruber, Talbert, Sue (Bill) Hooley, Goshen, IN, Twila (Charles) Jantzi, Maytown, PA, Carol (James) Riley, Lexington, Lisa (Keith) Miller, West Jefferson, OH; three brothers, Mark and Naaman Stoltzfus, PA, John Stoltzfus, IL; three sisters, Marian Yoder, FL, Ann Stoltzfus and Rhoda Boiler, PA, and 21 grandchildren.

Funeral services where held Tuesday, April 29 at the Buckhorn Log Cathedral in Buckhorn with Rev. Calvin Easb, Rev. Johnny Herald and Rev. Philip Swartzentruber officiating. Burial was in the Amis cemetery.
