EVA CARPENTER

Eva Cheatham Carpenter, 76, of North College Street, died Thursday, May 23, 2003 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born July 7, 1926 in Jessamine County, she was the daughter of the late Hobert and Elizabeth Woods Howard.

She was a former driver for the Mercer County Library Bookmobile and an Avon sales associate.

She enjoyed crafts, sewing, and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Edwin Carpenter, Harrodsburg; one son, Hobert Cheatham, Harrodsburg; two stepdaughters, Jean Reynolds of Perryville, and Connie Gibson, Harrodsburg; one stepson, Bobby Carpenter, Burgin; two grandchildren, six step grandchildren; one great-grandchild and eight step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Cheatham, one son, Lloyd Cheatham, a brother, Albert Leroy Howard, a sister, Trudy Howard Murray and a stepdaughter, Barbara Strevels.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 25, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Hospice Chaplain Gary Storey, Bro. Lewis Walter and Greg Warren officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Terry Reynolds, Garland Frederick, Richard Howard, Harry Cheatham, Kelby Cheatham, Chris Reynolds, Brent Gibson and Travis Gray. Honorary bearers were Reed Arnett, Jackie Claycomb and Jack Pearson.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Heritage Hospice, PO Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422.

JOHN CURD

John F. Curd, 85, Tanbark Road, Lexington, died Monday, May 26, 2003 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

Born July 28, 1917 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late John Coleman and Mattie Bell Moore Curd.

He was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, received his master’s degree from the University of Texas. He was an electrical engineer.

He was a 60 year member of the Colonel Clay Masonic Lodge in Covington, an honorary Kentucky Colonel and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lexington.

His hobbies included ham radio, he was a licensed pilot and was interested in genealogy.

He was a veteran of World War II, and member of the 192nd Tank Battalion from Harrodsburg, and served in military intelligence.

Survivors include: his wife, Lola McManama Curd, Lexington; one daughter, Joan Curd Bilik, Jacksonville, FL; one son, John F. Curd, Jr., Avon Park, FL; and seven grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 31, at Spring Hill Cemetery with Dr. Al Gwinn and Dr. Ted Nicholas officiating. A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hartland Hills Retirement Community Center, 1005 Tanbark Road, Lexington.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

GOLDIE DEVINE
Goldie Ann Devine, 84, of Dudley Street in Harrodsburg, died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born October 31, 1918 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and LuVacey Robinson McClain. She was the widow of Edwin Devine.

She was retired from Cricketeer Clothing Factory in Harrodsburg and enjoyed quilting and fishing.

She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School for a number of years and was a senior citizen leader.

Survivors include: four sons, Bruce E. Devine, Paris, France, C. M. Devine, Danville, Charles Leon Devine, Lexington, and Richard M. Devine, Georgetown; one daughter, Shirley Slatten, Harrodsburg; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanetta Lou Hensley.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 27, at the Fellowship Baptist Church with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Eddie Parr, Kenneth Meredith, Marvin Osbourn, C. W. Grider, John Hawes and Jerry Huffman.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Fellowship Baptist Church, Cornishville Street, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

ANN ESTRIDGE

Ann F. Estridge, 74, of 844 Beaumont Avenue, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born October 26, 1928 in Stanford, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Katherine Fields.

She was a secretary for Mercer County High School for many years and a member of Harrodsburg Christian Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Ernest G. Estridge, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Laura Freeman, Harrodsburg, and Melissa Suter, Louisville; one grandson, Will Freeman, Harrodsburg. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Fields, and a sister, Frances Caminish.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 30, at Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to Harrodsburg Christian Church Renovation Fund, 305 S. Main Street, Harrodsburg, KY 40330, or Heritage Hospice.

GLENNA LOZIER

Glenna Lozier, 72, of 626 Nakomi Drive, Lexington, died Friday, May 23, 2003 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born September 17, 1930 in Boone County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Lincoln and Lillian Hale Lozier.

She was a retired bookkeeper.

Survivors include: one sister, Gladys Marie Lozier, Lexington; one brother, Irvin Lee (Gladys Ann) Lozier, Harrodsburg; one nephew Phillip (Beth) Lozier; one niece, Patrice Royalty; and one great-nephew, Tanner Lozier.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 25, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Phillip Lozier, Mike Dean, Don Billy Caton and Bill Teater.

Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Fireman’s Fund, 1008 Eastland Drive, Lexington, KY 40505.

ED MATHERLY

Ed “Sonny” Matherly, 72, of Clarksville, TN, died Thursday, May 22, 2003 at the Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville, TN.

Born April 12, 1931 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Dewey Leon and Ruby Mae Graves Matherly.

He was retired from the U. S. Army as a First Sergeant with 26 years of service and the Civil Service. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include: his wife, Laura E. Sims Matherly, Clarksville, TN; two sons, Tobin D. Matherly, Clarksville, TN and Tim Matherly, Hopkinsville; two sisters, Dixie Huffman and Betty Jo Peavler, both of Harrodsburg; one grandchild, Rebekah Matherly.

Graveside services were held Sunday, May 25, 2003 at Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville.

Pallbearers were Clinton Dale Peavler, Mont Davie, Larry McDonough, Harold Tracy, Patrick Tracy, Roger Matheny, Bob Stine and Robert Storey.

Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home, Clarksville, TN was in charge of arrangements.

MICKEAL CHAPMAN

Mickeal Bruce Chapman, 45, of 987 Martin Lane, died Thursday, May 29, 2003 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born May 26, 1958 in Danville, he was the son of Bruce and Bonnie Chapman Huffman, both of Harrodsburg.

He was a farmer.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: his wife, Aliece Ann Adams Chapman, Harrodsburg; one son, Michael Lee Chapman, Danville; one daughter, Cyntina Chapman Sallee, Harrodsburg; two brothers, Mark Wayne Huffman, MD, and Robin Scott Huffman, Harrodsburg; five sisters, Bruce-Annette Russell and Patricia Rose Sallee, both of Harrodsburg, Tammie Marie Richardson, Springfield, Wanda Mae Dixon, Salvisa, and Kimberly Kay Wilks, Burgin; one granddaughter, Rose Bud Sallee.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 1, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with George Dye officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Danny Richardson, Danny Richardson Jr., Matthew Dixon, David Rainey, Wade Richardson and Jerry Wilson II. Honorary bearers were Jeff Ward, Todd Russell, Brent Sallee, David Sallee, Ethan Clay Sallee, Robin Scott Huffman and Mark Wayne Huffman.

JOYCE DAY

Joyce Mae Day, 69, Kennedy Bridge Road, Lancaster, died Monday, June 2, 2003 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born November 14, 1933 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Anna Mae Bugg Gibson. She was the widow of Vivan Day.

She was a former employee of Mckechnie Vehicle Components of Nicholasville, and a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Garrard County. She liked antiques and enjoyed crafts and gardening.

Survivors include: two daughters, Wenda Naylor and Lisa Day, both of Lancaster; two sons, Vivan Wayne Day and Randall Day, both of Lancaster; four sisters, Maggie Bunton, Lexington, Mildred Sharp, Lancaster, Linda Gibson, Perryville and Jean Bottoms, Harrodsburg; two brothers, Roger Gibson, Danville, and Dennis Gibson, Bradfordsville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. John Presko officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Gibson, Robbie Bunton, Shawn Gibson, Kevin Gibson, Ray Sivis and Donald Stinnett. Honorary bearers will be Herbert Sharp Jr., Bob Bunton, Calvin Gibson, Donnie Lane, Peggy Foley, Alice Graham and Phyliss Lane.

Visitation from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

PATRICIA FRITZ-HAGAN

Patricia “Pat” Fritz-Hagan, 52, of 565 Schenkel Lane, Frankfort, formerly of Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at her residence.

Born June 21, 1950 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Beatrice Gritton Fritz and Charles Clay Fritz.

She was a broker for C and S Transportation Services, Inc. for 29 years.

She attended Hope Community Church in Lawrenceburg.

Survivors include: her husband, Fred N. Hagan Sr., Frankfort; four daughters, Tiffany Hope Stephens and Clarissa Jane Campbell, both of Frankfort, Whitney Nicole Stephens, Lexington, and Tammy Kay (Shannon) Boling, Owenton; two step daughters, Gracie Green, Bardstown, Andrea (Don) Osborne, Cox’s Creek; one sister, Phyllis Smith, Lebanon; one brother, Wendol K. (Ruby) Smith, Lawrenceburg; three grandchildren and two step grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 3, at the Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Jeff Eaton officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele St., Frankfort, KY 40601.
