EVANSVILLE – Tony Lynn McCall, 45, died Saturday, July 1, 2006 at his residence.
Born in Greenville Oct. 5, 1960 he was the son of Charles and Carolyn Short McCall. He was a graduate of Graham High School and attended Middle Tennessee State University. He was a preacher for 29 years starting at the age of 16 and went on to pastor for 23 years serving at Beech Creek Baptist Church, Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Princeton, Dunmor Baptist Church and Nelson Creek Baptist Church and most recently served as the associate pastor at First Southern Baptist Church in Evansville. He was a member of New Bethel Southern Baptist Church in Evansville and founded an organization dedicated to ALS research and support of patients and their families. He also developed, coordinated and directed Easter dramas throughout his career. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Short and Charles W. McCall.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Donna Lear McCall; one son, Drew McCall of Evansville; his parents, Charles “C.C” and Carolyn McCall of Sturgis; one sister, Lisa Pearre of Franklin, Tenn.; one brother, Chris McCall of Auburn, Ala.; his grandmothers, Pearl Short of Greenville and Tera McCall of Dyersburg, Tenn. and three nephews, Justin, Landon and Easton Pearre.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. July 5 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Taylor, the Rev. Jeremy Whitney and the Rev. Donnie Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow in Vernal Grove Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. July 4 at Tucker Funeral Home. Boone Funeral Home, East Chapel in Evansville is in charge of arrangements.
Floberties Mitchell Baker
BELTON – Floberties Mitchell Baker, 79, died Sunday, July 2, 2006 at Belle Meade Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 14, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Robert Henry Mitchell and Mary Freeman Barber Mitchell. She attended Leigh’s Chapel General Baptist Church and was a retired waitress. She was preceded in death by two sons, Aaron Clay Dye and Gregory Baker.
Survivors include one daughter, Edith Baker of Covington, Ky.; two brothers, Henry Clay Mitchell and Robert Ray Mitchell, both of Belton; three grandchildren and four great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. July 5 at Leigh’s Chapel General Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Harper officiating. Burial will follow in Jackson Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. July 4 at Gary’s Funeral Home and after 1 p.m. July 5 at the church.
Courtland Ray “Sarge” Middleton
BUENA VISTA, GA. - Courtland Ray “Sarge” Middleton, 73, of Buena Vista, formerly of Greenville, died Sunday, June 22, 2003 at his daughter’s residence in Ellaville, Ga.
Born Jan. 2, 1932 in Greenville, he was the son of Hershel and Geneva Middleton. He retired from the U.S. Army as Sgt. 1st Class and had lived in Buena Vista for the past 27 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Middleton.
He is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Kenneth) English of Andersonville, Ga. and Gwen (Steven) Metheny of Ellaville, Ga.; one stepson, Gary Brown of Virginia; five brothers, Freddie Middleton, Ben Middleton, Danny Middleton, Norris Middleton and Henry Middleton, all of Kentucky; three sisters, Geraldine Ewton of Indiana, Ann Hottendorf of Washington, D. C. and June Rose of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, at the Chapel of Tante Funeral Home, Buena Vista, with interment in Andersonville National Cemetery with full military honors.
Harry L. Anderson
GREENVILLE - Harry L. Anderson, 87, of Greenville, died Monday, June 23, 2003, at the Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville following a short illness.
Born Jan. 11, 1916 in Muhlenberg County, he was a retired bookkeeper from the F. M. Puryear Texaco Bulk Plant. He was a graduate of Hughes - Kirk High School and attended Western Kentucky State Teachers College for a year. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Rhea Anderson; one son, Jimmy Anderson; and one brother, Harlan Anderson.
He is survived by one son, H. L. Anderson of Greenville; five grandchildren, Eric Anderson and Amy Hadley, both of Greenville, Aaron Anderson of Franklin, Tenn., Valerie Brown of Hermitage, Tenn., and Vicki Anderson of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven great - grandchildren; and one sister, Clari Bell Ledgerwood of St. Louis, Mo.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 26, at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Gary McAbee and Dr. Ray England officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
Rev. David Philyaw
TALLADEGA, ALA. - Rev. David Philyaw, 57, of Talladega, Ala., died Monday, June 23, 2003, at The Medical Center of Columbus, Ga.
Born July 30, 1945 in Birmingham, Ala., he was the son of Robert Lee Philyaw, deceased, and Jessie Mae Abercrombie Philyaw, deceased. He pastored Southern Baptist churches in Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee and was a member of Grimes Chapel Baptist Church in Sylacauga. He was currently employed by PTS Transportation of Birmingham and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sherron Philyaw of Talladega; one son, Robert David (Kathy) Philyaw of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; one daughter, Janet Leigh (David) Stewart of Michigan City, Miss.; three grandchildren, Benjamin David Philyaw, Katherine Elizabeth Philyaw and Jessica Leigh Stewart; and one sister, Lillian I. Ingle of Pensacola, Florida.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 26, at Radney - Smith Funeral Chapel in Sylacauga, Ala. with the Revs. Wayne Wisener and Truman Davis officiating. Barbara Jo Wells
GREENVILLE - Barbara Jo Wells, 71, of Greenville, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born Jan. 14, 1932 in Graham, the daughter of Alvin and Flora Wright Wells, she was retired from the Dame Outlet Store in Greenville. She was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by her husband, Lindel Wells, on July 29, 2000.
She is survived by one son, Lindel Jr. (Teresa) Wells of Greenville; two granddaughters, Stephanie (Bradley) Webster and Heather Wells, both of Greenville; two great - grandchildren, Braydon Wells Hibbs and Charlee Anne Webster; two brothers, Farrell Wells of Nashville and Harold Wells of Hot Springs, Ark.; and two nieces.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
Lilburn Martin
DRAKESBORO - Lilburn Martin, 84, of Drakesboro, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born Nov. 12, 1918 in Logan County, he was retired from Paradise TVA Steam Plant as a carpenter and was a veteran, having served in World War II. He was preceded in death by one son, James Allen Martin; two sisters, Delma Amo of O’Fallon, Mo. and Glodean Streeder.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Martin of Drakesboro; one daughter, Deborah M. Wrigley of Phoenix, Ariz.; one son, Johnny Martin of Dunmor; two grandchildren; three great - grandchildren; two half brothers, Steve Martin of Greenville and Charles Gary Martin of Greenville.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 1, at 2 p.m. at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Chris Vaught officiating. Burial will follow in Corley Chapel Cemetery in Graham.
Oneta Faith French
GREENVILLE - Oneta Faith French, 82, of Greenville, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Born July 21, 1920 in Linton, Ind., the daughter of John Ebler and Mamie Hunt Ebler, she was a member of First Christian Church in Greenville and was a homemaker and mother. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Jason French and Jack French Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles French, Sr. of Greenville; two sons, Charles French, Jr. of Greenville and Jack French of Friendship, Ind.; three daughters, Sherry Anderson of Hammond, Ind., Clarissa Sullivan of Drakesboro and Gloria Lee of Tescumba, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 1, at 11 a.m. at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. George Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Vernal Grove Cemetery in Depoy.
Helen F. Wells
DUNMOR - Helen F. Wells, 89, of Dunmor, died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at Greenview Hospital in Bowling Green.
Born Dec. 22, 1913 in Philadelphia, Pa., she was a supervisor and worked in New Jersey.
She is survived by one son, Richard Wells of Dunmor; one daughter, Kay (Wells) Ross of New Jersey; and one sister, Mary Hope of New Jersey; eight grandchildren; and three great - grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 1, at 5 p.m. at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Funeral services and burial will be private.
Lena Rosetta “Rosie” Woodlee
BEECH CREEK - Lena Rosetta “Rosie” Woodlee, 59, of Beech Creek, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, in Indianapolis, Ind.
Born June 12, 1944 in Beech Creek, the daughter of Johnnie Lyons and Mary Elizabeth Gilbert Lyons, she was a member of Beech Creek Pentecostal Church. She was a retired coal miner and had worked at Peabody Coal Company.
She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Woodlee of Plainfield, Ind. and Danny Woodlee of Penrod; one granddaughter, Jessica Woodlee of Greenville; three grandsons, Jeffrey Woodlee II and Heath Woodlee, both of Plainfield and Justin Woodlee of Greenville; two great - grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Leona Hudnall and Drucella Pamella Parsons, both of Penrod.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 29, at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg with the Rev. Steve McElvain officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Moriah Church of Christ Cemetery.
Emily Derycke
RUSSELLVILLE - Emily Derycke, 93, of Russellville, died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Logan Memorial Hospital in Russellville.
Born Dec. 20, 1909 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Martin Riemer and Amelia Riemer, she was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Mitchell.
She is survived by two daughters, Eleanor Evitts of Penrod and Emily Dolly Cox of Lewisburg; one son, Herman Mitchell of Vista, Calif.; 29 grandchildren; 50 great - grandchildren; and 11 great - great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 30, at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg with the Rev. Sam Romines officiating. Burial followed in Lewisburg Cemetery.
Jamie Pruden
BEECHMONT - Jamie Pruden, 38, of Beechmont, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at Carthage, Tenn. as a result of a traffic accident.
Born in Owensboro, he was a driver for Truck - It Trucking Co. and was a member of Buena Vista Baptist Church. He was a 1982 graduate of Apollo High School and was a veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corps.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Vickie Pruden; three sons, Jason and Justin Pruden, both of Beechmont and Cameron Thompson of North Carolina; one daughter, April Pruden of Beechmont; his mother, Betty Pruden of Owensboro; his father and stepmother, Jim and Cicily Pruden of Owensboro; his maternal grandmother, Edith Strehl of Owensboro; two grandchildren; three sisters, Norma Vanover, Marijane McNeil and Lee Ann Crabtree, all of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Edwin Lee Gill
GREENVILLE - Edwin Lee Gill, 81, of Greenville, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at his residence.
Born Nov. 19, 1921 in Graham, the son of the late Orie Edwin Gill and Bessie Lee Kyle Gill, he was of the Baptist faith and was a farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II and was retired from Naval Ordinance in Louisville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Elmo Gill; and one sister, Barbara Faye Gill.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Jackson Gill; two daughters, Sandra Latham and Karen Kirby, both of Greenville; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas Gill of Godfrey, Ill. and Earl Gill of Bunkerhill, Ill.; and one sister, Alice Reno of Alton, Ill.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 1, at 5 p.m. at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, also at Tucker Funeral Home with Bishop Ricky Hoskins and Doug Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
Arlie Burton Crist
PEORIA, ARIZ. - Arlie Burton Crist, 83, of Peoria, Ariz., died Thursday, June 24, 2003.
A native of Central City, he graduated from Central City High School in 1938. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Pacific on the USS Saratoga during World War II and during the Korean Conflict retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He was a 20 year employee of the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma; one son, Steve; his parents, Owen and Ida Crist; and one sister, Wanda Crist Mullen.
He is survived by two sons, Timothy and John Crist of Peoria; one brother, Wayne Crist of Central City; and one sister, Ruby Crist Leslie of Metairie, La.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 30, at the Church of Christ in Peoria. Burial, with military honors, followed in San Diego, Calif. Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
