Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 20, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Emma and Willie Baker. She worked at McDonald’s Restaurant in Greenville and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Rose.
Survivors include a son, Larry Rose of Bremen; a daughter, Donna Wylie of Greenville; a sister, Nevaline Cobb of Bremen; five grandchildren; three step - grandchildren; three great - grandchildren and five step great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. June 28 at Friendship Baptist Church in Greenville with the Rev. Billy Vincent and the Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating and assisted by the Rev. Roger Skipworth. Burial followed in Unity Cemetery in Graham. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Bobby Gene Emerson
POWDERLY - Bobby Gene Emerson, 74, died Sunday, June 26, 2005 at his residence.
Born in Texas June 11, 1931, he was retired veteran from the U.S. Air Force and the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts and attended Woodson Baptist Church in Powderly.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda (Tom) Coker of Fla. and Vickie (Bill) Boothe of Lewisport, Ky.; two sons, Ricky (Lee Ann) Emerson of Tell City, Ind. and Brian (Terrica) Emerson of Drakesboro; a sister, Joyce Thomas of Ore.; three grandchildren and 14 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. June 29 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Casebier officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman Cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. June 28 at Tucker Funeral Home.
L. D. Stewart
LAKELAND, FLA. - L. D. Stewart, 77, died Sat., June 25, 2005 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Central City Aug. 1, 1927, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, employed by Keil Chemical Company as a chemical operator and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Morris Stewart and four stepchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. June 30 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. There will be no public visitation.
Zulah Mae Joines Wells
MADISONVILLE - Zulah Mae Joines Wells, 91, died Friday, June 24, 2005 in Evansville, Ind. after a short illness.
Born in Greenville April 7, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Ross Joines and Minor Deason Joines. She was a housewife, a seamstress and a member of the First General Baptist Church in Madisonville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otho Wells, Dec. 24, 2002.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Griffin of Evansville, Ind.; a sister, Ailene McGhee of Greenville; two granddaughters, Rhonda Johnson and Angelia Jones, both of Evansville, Ind. and four great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. July 1 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Harry Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. June 30 at Gary’s Funeral Home.
Addie Mae Spicer Browning
Addie Mae Spicer Browning, 83, went to be with the Lord Sunday, June 26, 2005 at Belle Meade Nursing Home.
Born in Muhlenberg County May 8, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Ilie B. Spicer and Sarah Angeline Adcock Spicer, she was a lifetime member of Nelson Creek Missionary Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher and president of the W.M.U. She was a very loving woman and always had a smile and a big hug for everyone. She loved going to flea markets and was an avid collector of glassware. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel Browning Sept. 21, 2001 after 62 years of marriage; five brothers, Guy, Herman, Neal, Paul and Preston and two sisters, Virginia Wilson and Mary King. After her husband’s death she lived happily with her daughter on a farm in Nelson Creek until her recent illness.
Survivors include two daughters, Bettie (Kenneth) Mayhugh of Nelson Creek and Judi (Keith) Holland of Greenville; two grandchildren, Diona Beth (Frank) Heim of Boonville, Ind. and Thad Mayhugh of Owensboro; three great - grandchildren, Brooke (Chris) Martin, Philip Heim and Morgan Heim and one great - great - grandchild, Grace Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. June 29 at Tucker Funeral Home with Brother Donnie Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. June 28.
Cosby Allen Todd Harris
GREENVILLE - Cosby Allen Todd Harris, 79, died Monday, June 27, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County June 3, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Wesley Clifford Todd and Carrie Vernon Oates Todd. She was a homemaker and a member of Cleaton Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin W. Harris and her brothers, Thurman Ross Todd, William Samuel Todd and Doyle Oates Todd.
Survivors include two sons, Wesley Corbitt Harris of Greenville and Scott Allen Harris of Bowling Green; one daughter, Martine Renee Hayes of Russellville; five grandchildren and a niece.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., June 29 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Bean officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at 5 p.m. June 28 at Tucker Funeral Home.
Arthur Douglas Vick Sr.
GREENVILLE - Arthur Douglas Vick Sr., 62, of Greenville, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
He was born Nov. 25, 1940 in Muhlenberg County.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Wells Vick; three sons, Arthur D. Vick Jr. of Central City, Russel George Vick of Fredonia and Ryan Scott Vick of Greenville; two daughters, Roberta Elaine Jenkins of Browder and Rachel Marie Vick of Greenville; eight grandchildren; two brothers, LeeRoy Vick of Graham and Jerry W. Vick of Mt. Carmel, Ill.; and six sisters Shirley Ann Shadowen of Browder, Wanda Moore and Barbara Mayes, both of Cleaton, Mary Jane Amos of Central City, Margie Winsberg of Simi Valley, Calif. and Nona Kay Gregory of Greenville.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 18, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Marty Robertson officiating. Burial followed in Miller Cemetery in Cleaton.
Rufus Strader
ELKTON - Rufus Strader, 86, of Elkton, died Wednesday, June 18, of natural causes, at Hearthstone Place.
Born Sept. 9, 1916 in Todd County, he was the son of the late William Obediah Strader and Ida Martin Strader. He was a retired school bus driver after 25 years of service. He was also retired from Western State Hospital. He was a farmer and a member of the Westside Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Guiula Greenwood Strader in 1996.
He is survived by three daughters, Willadean McGhee of Elkton, Maxine Criswell of Lexington and Phylis Rager of Allegre; seven grandchildren and 13 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 20, at Latham Funeral Home with Mr. Hollis Miller and Mr. Roger Russell officiating. Burial followed in McPherson Cemetery.
William J. “Scoop” Schuetrumpf
TAMAQUA, PA. - William J. “Scoop” Schuetrumpf, 83, of Tamaqua, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale, Pa.
Born in Tamaqua, Pa., the son of the late Raymond and Anna Mae (Eslieb) Schuetrumpf, he was a chef and had been employed in the Lehigh Valley and Pocono area most notably at the Starlite Diner in Fogelsville, Pa. He was a member of Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church in Tamaqua. He was honored as a Kentucky Colonel by the Commonwealth of Kentucky in 1994 and was a member of the Pottsville, Pa. VFW. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Schuetrumpf and John Schuetrumpf; and by three sisters, Jean Lahustsky, Cecelia Hornacek and Joan Schuetrumpf.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Annes of Tamaqua, formerly of Greenville; three daughters, Rita Ann McDaniel of Statesville, N.C., Beverly R. Spracklin of Schuylkill Haven, Pa. and Billie Jean Harakel of Tamaqua; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Pauline Davis and Eleanor Schuetrumpf, both of Tamaqua.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 23, at Zizelmann - Roche Funeral Home in Tamaqua with the Rev. Kevin Roberts officiating. Burial followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Tamaqua.
Michael Melvin Mangrum
Michael Melvin Mangrum, 40, of Central City, died Monday, June 16, 2003 in Greenville.
Born May 8, 1963 in Graves County, he was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Graves County.
He is survived by his father, Cecil Mangrum of Central City; his mother, Linda Van Buskirk of Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Brittany Mangrum of Owensboro; one brother, Thomas R. Mangrum of Fort Bragg, N.C.; and one half - sister, Cindy Downing McKinney of Orlando, Fla.
Graveside services and burial were held Friday, June 20, at Maplewood Cemetery in Mayfield, Ky. with the Revs. Tim Adcock and Fred Harrison officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Suzanne Edwards
POWDERLY - Mary Suzanne Edwards, 68, of Powderly, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Born Sept. 29, 1934 in Evansville, Ind., she was a housewife and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence Douglas Edwards; one daughter, Deborah M. Edwards Rulczak of Calumet City, Ill.; one grandson, Douglas Edwards Everly; one brother, Simon B. Sanders of Owensboro; four sisters, Molly Sanders of Powderly, Diane Ware, Aleda Dukate and Alice Reynolds, all of Owensboro.
Funeral services were private. Burial was in Old Bethel Cemetery in Muhlenberg County. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Josephine Zackery
GREENVILLE - Josephine Zackery, 78, of Greenville, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at her daughter’s residence in Bremen.
Born Oct. 26, 1924 in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker and a member of Riverside Baptist Church.
She is survived by four sons, Norvil Zachery and Eddie Zachery, both of Central City and John Zackery and Jeff Zackery, both of Greenville; five daughters, Beatrice Smith and Rose Miller, both of Bremen, Shirley Kornberger of Evansville, Margaret Stallins of Newburgh, Ind., and Patricia Fruit of Henderson; 21 grandchildren; 25 great - grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Duvall of Central City.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 19, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Revs. Ken Abbott and Dan Yeager officiating. Burial followed in New Harmony Cemetery in Bremen.
Ruth Irene Brooks Wilson
SACRAMENTO - Ruth Irene Brooks Wilson, 90, of Sacramento, formerly of Slaughters, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, in Florida.
Born March 3, 1913 in Slaughters, she was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Stuart, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Claudie Mae Williams Wilson; her husband, Johnnie M. Wilson; one daughter; and one brother.
She is survived by two daughters, Wilma Jean Franklin of Sacramento and Jonell Friend of Stuart, Fla.; one son, Ralph Aica Wilson of Okeechobee, Fla.; one sister, Blanche Poole of Slaughters; seven grandchildren; 14 great - grandchildren; and three great - great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 20, at Tompkins Funeral Home, Slaughters Hanson Chapel, with the Rev. Harry Baldwin officiating. Burial followed in Slaughters Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice.
Tonya Gail Whirley
GREENVILLE - Tonya Gail Whirley, 38, of Greenville, died suddenly Tuesday, June 17, 2003, in the Emergency Room of Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born Sept. 27, 1964 in Muhlenberg County, the daughter of Lamar Whirley and Mina Louise Mitchell Whirley, she was the manager of the Pantry in Drakesboro. She was preceded in death by her father, Lamar Whirley.
She is survived by one son, Robert Lamar Whirley of Greenville; two brothers, James Sweeden of Tell City, Ind. and Alan Whirley of Greenville; one sister, Tammy Reineri of Henderson, Nev.; her mother, Louise Mitchell Whirley of Greenville.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 21, at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Terry Groves officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
Oma Kelm Perkins
Oma Kelm Perkins, of Central City, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at the home of her caretaker, Nancy Epley, in South Carrollton.
Born in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Stanley Kelm in 1964 and her second husband, Clyde Perkins in 1977.
She is survived by one son, Randal Kelm of Central City; three daughters, Joyce Tucker of Central City, Lavon Jarvis of Bremen and Mary Wilda Gossett of Plano, Texas; one stepson, Don Perkins of Bremen; one stepdaughter, Anna Rhea Millard of North Carolina; ten grandchildren; 19 great - grandchildren; seven great - great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 22, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
