BEECHMONT - Ray Travis, 67, of Beechmont, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Maple Manor Nursing Center in Greenville.
Born Jan. 26, 1936 in Muhlenberg County, he was a member of Beech Creek Church of Christ. He was retired from Hahn’s Factory in Evansville, Ind. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford and Charles Travis.
He is survived by his wife, Zelda Mae Garrett Travis; four sons, Michael (Brenda) Travis, Tony (Luray) Travis and Jeff Travis, all of Evansville, Ind., and Jerry Jr. (Donna) Stanley of Browder; four daughters, Diana (Greg) McWilliams of Chandler, Ind., Shelia (Louis) Colburn, Judy (David) Snyder and Sabrina (Mark) Whittaker, all of Central City.; eighteen grandchildren; five sisters, Birdie Dale Robertson of California, Christine Livingston of New York, Lucille Bolin of Clinton, Ill. May Knight of Elkton, Ky. and Dorothy Rice of Greenville.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 22, at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with Mr. Darrell Puryear officiating. Burial followed in Macedonia Cemetery in Rosewood.
Ellis L. Vincent
GRAHAM - Ellis L. Vincent, 79, of Graham, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at his residence.
Born March 22, 1924 in Muhlenberg County, he was a member of the Unity Baptist Church and of the local 181 Operating Engineers in Evansville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lenora Vincent.
He is survived by his wife, Ruthie Vincent; one daughter, Phyllis Vincent of Graham; one stepdaughter, Debbie Jarvis of Bremen; two step grandchildren, Melissa Tarrrance and Buddy Jarvis; and two step great - grandchildren, Jarvis Todd Tarrance and Jon Eden Tarrance.
Graveside services and burial were held Wednesday, June 18, at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Bremen with the Rev. Jerry Eades officiating. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the American Lung Association. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Hilda Farmer McPherson
GREENVILLE - Hilda Farmer McPherson, 87, of Greenville, died Friday, June 20, 2003, in Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville after a lengthy illness.
Born Jan. 13, 1916 in Muhlenberg County, the daughter of George Farmer and Cordie Strader Farmer, she was a member of Elkton Road Church of Christ in Greenville. She taught children’s Sunday School for several years at Mt. Vernon Church of Christ in Todd County where she lived most of her married life. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Arie McPherson in 1984.
She is survived by one son, Eugene McPherson of Greenville; one daughter - in - law, Shirley Joines McPherson of Greenville; two grandchildren Tammy (Jeff) Durall of Greenville and Amy (Tommy) Voyles of Lewisport, Ky.; one great - grandson, Caleb Gray Durall of Greenville; two sisters, Yvone Klassen of Clarksville, Tenn. and Lela Welborn of Fairberry, Ill.; two brothers, Malcolm Keith Farmer of Auburn and Obey Ray Farmer of Danville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 22, at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with Mr. Larry Perkins officiating. Burial followed in McPherson Cemetery, Jason Ridge, Ky.
Bobby C. Willis
Bobby C. Willis, 61, of Central City, died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at his residence.
Born July 21, 1941 in Muhlenberg County, he was retired from the Bureau of Forestry in Chicago, Ill. He enjoyed fishing, attending flea markets and auctions. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents John H. Willis and Oretha Gray Willis.
He is survived by two brothers, David Willis of Central City and John B. Willis of Owensboro; and one sister, Sherri Gish of Central City.
Funeral services are private. Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Edith Mae Wilkins
CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP - Edith Mae Wilkins, 92, of Chesterfield Township, died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at her residence.
Born in Evansville, Ind. on Feb. 8, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Edna (Childers) DeLaShmitt. She married Jacob Wilkins on Aug. 20, 1927 in Greenville. She lived in Madisonville from 1968 until she moved to Chesterfield Township in July 1996. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Wilkins, on Sept. 2, 1993; two daughters, Ruth Lyon and Wanda Rohrbeck; and one sister, Merle Lavery.
She is survived by five daughters, Emogene McPherson of Madisonville, Vada (Bill) Lyon of Nortonville, Nita (Bill) Urban of Northville, Mich., Mary (Edward) Marsack of Chesterfield Township and Kay (Larry) Furby of Roseville, Mich; two sons, William (Jean ) Wilkins of Chesterfield Township, Mich. and Clyde (Terry) Wilkins of Bonaire, Ga.; one sister, Madrel (Herbert) Whitmer of Madisonville; 33 grandchildren; 63 half - great - grandchildren and 13 half great - great - grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Monday, June 23, at Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerald Trickett officiating.
An additional visitation will be held from 2 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with funeral services being held at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 26, also at Tucker Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Brier Creek Cemetery in Bremen.
Courtland Ray “Sarge” Middleton
BUENA VISTA, GA. - Courtland Ray “Sarge” Middleton, 73, of Buena Vista, formerly of Greenville, died Sunday, June 22, 2003 at his daughter’s residence in Ellaville, Ga.
Born Jan. 2, 1932 in Greenville, he was the son of Hershel and Geneva Middleton. He retired from the U.S. Army as Sgt. 1st Class and had lived in Buena Vista for the past 27 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Middleton.
He is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Kenneth) English of Andersonville, Ga. and Gwen (Steven) Metheny of Ellaville, Ga.; one stepson, Gary Brown of Virginia; four brothers, Freddie Middleton, Ben Middleton, Danny Middleton and Norris Middleton, all of Kentucky; three sisters, Geraldine Ewton of Indiana, Ann Hottendorf of Washington, D. C. and June Rose of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, at the Chapel of Tante Funeral Home, Buena Vista, with interment in Andersonville National Cemetery with full military honors.
Cora Fleming
GREENVILLE Cora Fleming, 87, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at her daughter’s residence in Greenville.
Born in Butler County, Jan. 18, 1917, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include five sons, Gene Fleming of Weldon, Calif., Harold Fleming of Hopkinsville, Dale Fleming of Madisonville, Jesse Fleming of Luzerne and Leamon Fleming of Greenville; six daughters, Edna Johnson of Beech Creek, Sue Sanders of Chatsworth, Ill., Ruth Casebier and Eva Piper, both of Drakesboro and June Simpson and Cheryl McKinney both of Greenville; a sister, Ivy Barbee of Winkelman, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. June 16 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Dukes officiating. Burial followed in Mud River Union Cemetery in Belton.
Howard Franklin Settle
CLIFTY Howard Franklin Settle, 68, died Monday, June 14, 2004 at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville following a lengthy illness.
Born in Todd County, June 17, 1935, the son of the late Charles Richard and Jimmie (Welborn) Settle, he worked for International Shoe Company for seven years and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Clifty Baptist Church in Clifty.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Martha Jean (Combs) Settle; a son, Howard David Settle of Clifty; three daughters, Loretta (Tony) Pack of Elkton, Brenda Hobgood of Greenville and Rhonda (Barry) Davis of Hopkinsville; two brothers, Charles Settle of Clifty and Dawson Settle of Russell Springs; two sisters, Aileen Jones of Russellville and Maxine Sears of Sharon Grove; and 11 grandchildren, Kristie, Karen, Matt, Jeana, Brian, Wesley, Elisha, Ben, Seth, Katie and Allen.
Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m., June 17 at Heltsley Cemetery in Clifty with the Rev. Calvin Bond officiating. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jennifer Lee Jarvis Groves
GREENVILLE Jennifer Lee Jarvis Groves, 28, died Thursday, June 17 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Christian County, Dec. 23, 1975, she was employed by Wal - Mart in Hopkinsville. She was preceded in death by a sister, Wendy Beth Jarvis and grandparents, Betty Boren Hill and William and Mary Lois (Vincent) Jarvis.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Groves of Greenville; four children, Destiny Renee Jarvis, Dalton Tyler Jarvis, Jonathan Hunter Groves and Jacob Daniel Groves all of Greenville; her parents, Dollie Hill Baker of Greenville and Richard and Kim Jarvis of Greenville; a sister, Whitney Jarvis of Greenville; three brothers, A.J. Baker, Matt Jarvis and Dustin Jarvis, all of Greenville; and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., June 20 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Evitts and the Rev. Tim Adcock officiating. Burial followed in Bivins Cemetery in Weir.
Lorene Farber
DRAKESBORO Lorene Farber, 88, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Dec. 20, 1915, she was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Drakesboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dossie Farber and two sons, Paul and Ronnie Farber.
Survivors include a son, William “Bill” Farber of Drakesboro; a daughter, Christine MacDonald of Winter Haven, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., June 22 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Charleston Farber and the Rev. Travis Fox officiating. Burial followed in Highway Cemetery in Drakesboro.

MADISONVILLE Mary Ellen Rector, 63, died Sunday, June 20, 2004 at her daughter’s residence in Madisonville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, May 25, 1941, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Roy Jr., Richard Allen and Eddie Michael Geary, all of Madisonville; a daughter, Carol Sue O’Bannon of Madisonville; two brothers, Wayne and J.C Crick, both of Madisonville; a sister, Virnes Crick of Madisonville; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Clarence Baker
Clarence Baker of Central City, 75, died Thursday, June 17, 2004 at Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green.
Born in Muhlenberg County, April 15, 1929, he was a member of St. James A.M.E Zion Church in Central City.
Survivors include three brothers, Ronnie Baker of Bowling Green, Fred Baker of Owensboro and Freddie Baker of Beaver Dam; a sister, Sarah Watkins of Central City; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services were held at 9 a.m., June 19 at West End Cemetery in Greenville with the Rev. Sheral McCoy officiating. Bibbs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
LaNelda Smith Sherrod
LaNelda Smith Sherrod of Central City, 66, died Friday, June 18, 2004 at Owensboro Medical Health System.
Born in Martwick, Sept. 8, 1937, to the late Charles Oliver Smith and Mary (Alexander) Smith Renfrow, she was retired from Stewart’s IGA Foodliner in Central City and a member of the First Baptist Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by a brother, Marion Oliver Smith; a sister, Joyce Marie (Smith) Fulkerson; and stepfather, Jack P. Renfrow.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Roy Sherrod, Jr.; a son, Frank Sherrod of Central City; two daughters, Lana (Billy) Hoskins of Central City and Jackie (Todd) Ladd of Crofton; a sister, Delores Smith (Hubert) Francis of Central City; a brother - in - law, Monty (Jeannie) Fulkerson of Louisville; three grandchildren, Andrew Ladd, Jamie Hoskins and Katie Hoskins; two nieces, Angela Francis Noffsinger and Cindy Francis (Bennie) Stollings both of Central City; and two great nieces, Kelli West (Jimi) Wilson of Lexington and Andrea Stollings of Central City.
LeNelda is lovingly and sadly missed by her family and friends.

Helen Frances Williams
HOPKINSVILLE Helen Frances Williams, 69, died Sunday, June 20, 2004 at Hearthstone Place in Elkton.
Born in Trenton, March 16, 1935, to the late M.J. and Mary Johnson Griggs, she was a member of the Living Hope Baptist Church in Hopkinsville. She was preceded in death by a son, Barry Williams.
Survivors include a son, Pastor Stan Williams of Ashland; two daughters, Beth Waller and Sandy Dossett, both of Hopkinsville; a brother, Terry Griggs of Elkton; nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

BERWYN, ILL. - Marilyn June Doss, 70, died Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at her residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County April 15, 1935, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Doss in 1996.
Survivors include two sons, Steve (Barb) Doss of Oswego, Ill. and Jeff Doss of Berwyn, Ill.; a daughter, Debbie Barron of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; a brother, Terry Nunley of Nashville, Tenn.; two sister - in - laws, Joyce Nunley of Bremen and Joyce Willis of Central City; two granddaughters, Milissa Hagerty and Caitlyn Kallas and loving nieces and nephews.
