Lottie B. Milligan

ST. LOUIS, MO. - Lottie B. Milligan, 74, of St. Louis, died Friday, June 6, 2003, in Monroe City, Mo.
Born Feb. 24, 1929 at Echols in Ohio County, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna Louise Wilcox and was a member of Hazelwood Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Clay Milligan; one brother, William Powell Wilcox and one sister, Anna Marie Allen.
She is survived by her husband, E. C. Milligan; two daughters, Debbie (Gene) Kirsch of Shreveport, La. and Missy (David) Thurman of St. Peters, Mo.; three brothers, Bert, Larry and Cecil Wilcox; two sisters, Virginia Givens and Brenda Darnell; and six grandchildren, Tom and David Kirsch, Jennifer, Tiffany and Kimberlee Thurman and Mark David Milligan.
Visitation at 11 a.m. and funeral services at 12:30 p.m. will be held Wednesday, June 11, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Allen Black officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Gladys Lorene Tatum
CLEATON ­ Gladys Lorene Tatum, 90, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Todd County, Aug. 1, 1913, she was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry H. (Habo) Tatum.
Survivors include three sons, Walter Ray Tatum of Central City, Henry Earl Tatum of Drakesboro and Bobby Joe Tatum of Beech Creek; four daughters, Annie L. Duvall of Bremen, Hazel Duvall of Central City, and Linda Morphew and Patricia J. Jernigan, both of Beech Creek; a brother, Ed Latham of Owensboro; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., July 1 at Tucker’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Chambers officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Hilda Bratcher Steele

GREENVILLE ­ Hilda Bratcher Steele, 75, died Monday, June 28, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Nov. 7, 1928, to the late W.T. and Annie Mae Burris Bratcher, she was a retired insurance agent. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl. T. Steele and a sister, Gwendolyn Ray.
Survivors include a son, Carl T. Steele, Jr. of Greenville; three daughters, Sheila (David) Hoagland and Teresa (Lindel) Wells, both of Greenville and Carla (Wayne) Mattingly of Owensboro; three brothers, Lloyd Bratcher of Leesville, La., William Bratcher of Crestview, Fla. and Barnes Bratcher of Eufaula, Ala.; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Piper, Derrick Piper, Stephanie Webster, Jennifer Garrett, Joey Mattingly, Heather Wells, Beth Mattingly, Raven Steele and Cole Steele; and eight great grandchildren, Monika, Cody, Mikalah, Tori, Braydon, Charlee Anne, Zachariah, and Hezikiah.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., July 1 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Mr. Joey Steele officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Garden Cemetery in Powderly.

Jessie Oscar Majors

WHITE PLAINS ­ Jessie Oscar Majors, 76, formerly of Greenville, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at his residence in White Plains.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 4, 1928, to the late Tom and Raney Groves Majors, he was a retired auto mechanic. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fount and Henry Thomas Majors.
Survivors include five daughters, Peggy Pleasant, Kathy Hamilton, Joyce Baumeister, Pam Earl and Phyllis Phelps; three sons, Jessie, Roger and Tommy Majors; two sisters, Hallie Humphrey and Flora Vanvactor; a brother, Orville Majors; 18 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., July 2 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Lee Bryant Groves and the Rev. Agnes Carlton officiating. Burial followed in Yeargins Chapel Cemetery in Graham.

Dovie Marie Cannon

GREENVILLE ­ Dovie Marie Cannon, 90, formerly of Hopkinsville, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville following a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, June 16, 1914, to the late Rufus Edmond and Myrtie Elizabeth Kelly Sweeney, she was a housewife, homemaker, and a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rue Cannon; a sister, Flossie Orene Sweeney; and a nephew, Claude Sweeney.
Survivors include three great nephews, Bob Sweeney of Ga., Randy Sweeney of Hopkinsville, and Mike Sweeney of Calif.; and several great great nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., July 3 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. George Thompson officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
Ruby Elizabeth Harkins

GREENVILLE ­ Ruby Elizabeth Harkins, 86, died Thursday, July 1, 2004 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, July 13, 1917, she was a member of Sharon General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Harkins.
Survivors include two sons, Billy (Betty) Harkins and Donald Johnny (Faye) Harkins; a sister, Zelpha Ray; four grandchildren, Lori Buttrum, Susan Fitzhugh, Stephanie Eaves and John Harkins; a step - granddaughter, Elizabeth Schmidt; six great grandchildren, Brodie and Megan Fitzhugh, Emilee and Joshua Buttrum, and Emily and Kate Eaves; and two step - great grandchildren, Nola and Catherine Schmidt.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., July 3 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Rob Gwaltney officiating. Burial followed in Lee Cemetery in Greenville.

Vernell Williams McPherson

BELTON ­ Vernell Williams McPherson, 81, died Saturday, July 3, 2004 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker and member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon McPherson.
Survivors include two sons, Shelby McPherson of Lewisburg and Howard McPherson of Belton; three daughters, Eva Jean McKenney of Drakesboro and Dorothy Knight and Fay Brown, both of Belton; two brothers, Benny and Paul Williams, both of Belton; three sisters, Lorene Powell, Virdie Stone and Modell Bullard, all of Henderson; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two step - great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., July 6 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Chaney and the Rev. Don Piper officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery in Drakesboro.

William “Bill” Venerable

GREENVILLE ­ William “Bill” Venerable, 84, died Thursday, July 1, 2004 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, he was a member of St. James A.M.E Zion Church serving as preacher’s steward, teacher, Sunday school supt. and a member of the trustee board. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Venerable.
Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Gott of Cleaton, Sharon Scott of Davenport, Iowa and Linda Thruston of Los Angeles, Calif.; a son, Michael Venerable of Paducah; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., July 7 at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Greenville. Burial will follow in West End Cemetery in Greenville. Bibbs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Reba May Noffsinger

Reba May Noffsinger, 89, died July 4, 2004 at her residence in Central City.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Aug. 25, 1914, she was a homemaker and a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Bremen.
Survivors include her husband, John Noffsinger.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., July 8 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Reardon officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. July 7.

Easter E. Perry Beck

HOLLYWOOD, FLA. - Easter E. Perry Buck, 78, formerly a resident of the Penrod area, died Saturday, June 24, 2004, at her residence in Hollywood, Fla.
Born in Butler County, she was the daughter of the late Milton I. and Logie Elizabeth Andrews Perry. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Deanna.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Carl Beck; two sons, Carl Beck, Jr. of Alabama and Gary Lee Beck of Hollywood; a daughter, Jackie Beck of Hollywood; a sister, Bobby Anderson of Beechmont and a sister - in - law, Percie Perry of Dunmor; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services and burial were held in Hollywood on June 29.

Donald C. Potter

GREENVILLE ­ Donald C. Potter, 80, died July 5, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville following a lengthy illness. Born in Wichita, Kan., Nov. 16, 1923, to the late Clem. L and Katherine Holtschlag Potter, he was a merchant in Greenville for over 50 years in the jewelry business, a veteran of World War II, served in the Army Air Force and received the Purple Heart after being held captive as a prisoner of war. He was a life member of the V.F.W Post #5478, served on the Greenville City Council for 14 years and served as interim Mayor of Greenville for a short time. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Alliene (Heltsley) Potter. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. July 8 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Father Ben Luther and the Rev. Vernon Perdue officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. July 7 and after 9 a.m. July 8. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or V.F.W. Post #5478 in Greenville or a charity of your choice.

Eric Lance Vanover
BREMEN ­ Eric Lance Vanover, 19, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Hopkins County, Sept. 30, 1984, he was a member of the 130th Engineer Company of the National Guard in Madisonville.
Survivors include his parents, Jeff and Lisa Vanover of Bremen; a sister, Larissa Vanover of Bremen; paternal grandmother, Linda Neal of Bremen; maternal grandmother, Betty Baker of Owensboro; maternal grandfather, Claude Baker of Bremen; and great - grandmother, Beulah McClain of Owensboro.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., June 4 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Brown officiating. Burial followed in Gish Cemetery in Bremen with military honors.

Raymond Darrel DeArmond

DUNMOR ­ Raymond Darrel DeArmond, 60, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at his daughter’s residence in Central City.
Born in Muhlenberg County, March 1, 1944, to the late Garteen and Susie (Flemings) DeArmond, he was a truck driver for Logan County Road Department and a member of Dunmor Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ina June DeArmond.
Survivors include a daughter, Shelda (DeArmond) Odle of Central City; three sons, Robbie, Randy and Ritchie DeArmond, all of Dunmor; three sisters, Hazel Moore of Lewisburg, Velma Jenkins and Patty Whittaker, both of Dunmor; a brother, Billy DeArmond of Dunmor; four grandchildren; and three great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., June 5 at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg with the Rev. Tony McCall and the Rev. Jeremy Whitney officiating. Burial followed in Dunmor Cemetery in Dunmor.

Fred Maurice O’Donohoe

NORTH PORT, FLA. ­ Fred Maurice O’Donohoe, 67, died recently at his residence.
Born in Nashville, Tenn., July 17, 1936, to Oscar O’Donohoe and Nancy Wallace, he was a former teacher and of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his mother, Nancy Crecelius of Nashville, Tenn.; and a sister, Sally Polan of Nashville.
Graveside funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., June 3 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Carlos C.B. Knight

DRAKESBORO ­ Carlos C.B. Knight, 79, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Aug. 31, 1924, he was a retired miner and a member of Browder General Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jarvis Knight in 1992.
Survivors include a son, Carlos R. “Dick” Knight of Owensboro; two granddaughters; and two great - granddaughters.
Funeral services were held at 6 p.m., June 3 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. T.H. Davis officiating. A private burial followed.

Roy Lee Bailey, Sr.

GREENVILLE ­ Roy Lee Bailey, Sr., 59, died Thursday, June 3, 2004 at his residence.
Born in McDowell, W.Va., Nov. 21, 1943, he was a U.S. Army veteran, a coal miner and a member of Belton Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Miller Bailey; a son, Roy Lee Bailey, Jr. of Bremen; two daughters, Evelyn Jean Brooks of Greenville and Stacie Johnson of Smithville, N.C.; two brothers, Glenn Bailey of Maryland and Ralph Bailey of West Virginia; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., June 5 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Foster and the Rev. Mike Foster officiating. Burial followed in Jernigan Chapel Cemetery in Greenville.

Eddie Tatum

NASHVILLE, TENN. ­ Eddie Tatum, 63, died Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Veterans Hospital in Nashville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Jan. 22, 1941, to the late Claude and Mary Tatum, he was a member of Central City Masonic Lodge #673 and a U.S. Marine Corp veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Robin Ross of Proctorville, Ohio; a son, Jeffery Tatum of Chester, Va.; a brother, Ronnie Tatum of Central City; and several special friends.
No funeral services are planned. Terrell Broady Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
