DUNMOR Ruby Maedell Hurt Strayn, 81, died Friday, May 21, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a protracted battle with cancer.
Born in Todd County, Nov. 2, 1922, the daughter of the late Alfred Lewis Hurt and Verna Marshall, she was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Clifty and worked as a housekeeper at schools. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Myrtle Rigsby, Louise Mallory and Bernice Wright.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Lenard Strayn of Dunmor; three sons, Robert (Kathy) Strayn of Wanatah, Ind., Wayne Strayn of Rockville, Ind., Daniel (Rozalind) Strayn of Maryville, Tenn.; two daughters, Brenda Lange of Wonewoc, Wis. and Jonell Strayn of Lewisburg; a sister, Evelyn Biembick of Paducah; a cousin and “honorary son”, Darrell (Sheila) Keeling of Lewisburg; 10 grandchildren; 15 great - grandchildren; and numerous beloved friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., May 24 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis McGehee and the Rev. Calvin Bond officiating. Burial followed in Cessna Cemetery in Powderly. In lieu of cut flowers, Mrs. Strayn requested living plants.
William Lee Irvie “Jake” Crick
GREENVILLE William Lee Irvie “Jake” Crick, 88, died Saturday, May 22, 2004 in the Maple Manor Healthcare Center.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Sept. 13, 1915, the son of the late Eura Crick and Allie Pearl Wells Crick, he attended Olive Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville and retired in 1969 after 10 years as a uke driver at Greenville Quarries. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the Asiatic, the Pacific and the Philippines. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Nell Crick in 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Reynolds of Greenville; two sisters, Lydia McIntosh and Lizzie Deason, both of Greenville; two brothers, Clifford Crick of Greenville and Jewell Crick of Hopkinsville; two grandsons; six great - grandchildren; and a nephew, Joe (Lisa) Snyder of Powderly.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., May 24 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Day officiating. Burial followed in Cherry Grove Cemetery in Weir with military rites.
Alberta Mansfield
DUNMOR Alberta Mansfield, 80, died Friday, May 21, 2004 at her residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, March 24, 1924, to the late Ollie Belle Morris Watkins and Isaac Edmund Watkins, she was a member of Drakesboro Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Wayne Mansfield; two daughters, Kimberly Mansfield of Loveland, Ohio and Kathy Hamilton of Bowling Green; a son, Scott Mansfield of Greenville; a brother, Eugene Watkins of South Carrollton; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services were held at J.C. Kirby and Son Funeral Chapel in Bowling Green.
Jane Vick Berry
PETERSBURG, IND. Jane Vick Berry, 82, died Monday, May 24, 2004 at her residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Sept. 13, 1921, to the late Pascal Vick and Ann Margaret Pittman, she was a housewife and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. John Berry; two sons, Dr. John Berry of Evansville, Ind. and Jeffrey Lynn Berry of Bloomington, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great - grandchildren; and four great great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., May 27 at First United Methodist Church in Petersburg, Ind. with the Rev. Mike Monohan officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First United Methodist Church in Petersburg, Ind., the Council on Aging or the American Cancer Society in Petersburg.
Sallie Angeline (Polly) Bratcher
MORGANTOWN - Sallie Angeline (Polly) Bratcher, 83, died Thursday, May 19, 2005 at her residence.
Born in Butler County Oct. 17, 1921, she was the daughter of the late EC and Eva (Childers) Martin. She was a housewife and a member of Ridgeview Mennonite Church in Morgantown. She was preceded in death by her husband Artie Bratcher, a brother, Rebus Martin and a half - sister, Beatice Taylor.
Survivors include a son, Artie Wayne Bratcher of Morgantown; a sister, Mildred Clark of Morgantown; four grandchildren and two great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 22 at Smith Funeral Home in Morgantown with Brother Larry Cardwell officiating. Burial followed at Ridgeview Cemetery in Morgantown.

BOWLING GREEN - Oran Lee Beck, 89, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green.
Born in Butler County July 13, 1915, he was the son of the late Dudley Beck and Laura Neel Beck. He was a retired carpenter and farmer and a member of West End Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Beck, two sons, Eddie Beck of Bowling Green and Jerry Beck of Hartford; a daughter, Karen Moore of Bowling Green; seven grandchildren and 6 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. May 20 at Smith Funeral Home in Morgantown with Brother Ross Conley officiating. Burial followed at Warren Mills Cemetery in Morgantown.

LEWISBURG - Jade Racheal Hambrick, three months, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at her residence.
Born in Madisonville Jan. 27, 2005, she was the daughter of Darrin and Manda Hambrick.
Survivors include her parents, a brother, Dallas Hambrick of Lewisburg and her grandparents, Donnie and Betty Hambrick of Powderly, Debra Neal of Bremen and Scott Meinert of Evansville.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. May 20 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City with the Rev. Terry Chaney officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

GREENVILLE - Kendrick Stewart Stovall, 93, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 4, 1911, she was a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gardner Stovall.
Survivors include three daughters, Greeba S. London and Ann S. Clark, both of Greenville and Lou S. Austin of Madisonville; a brother, Julian M. Sparks of Greenville; a sister, Nell Watkins Cornette of Madisonville; 10 grandchildren and 15 great - grandchildren.

Vivian M. Steele, 88, died Friday, May 20, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County May 10, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Daniel H. and Beulah E. Murphy. Her life was like a beautiful quilt, a patchwork of memories sewn together with threads of love. She has been a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a christian and a member of Green River Chapel General Baptist Church. She was a faithful supporter of the Gideon’s International Ministry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas W. Steele; two sisters, Juanita Mishak of Lorain, Ohio and Aleta Murphy of Central City and three brothers, Edgar D. Murphy and Daniel H. Murphy, Jr., both of Central City and Kenneth R. Murphy of Evansville, Ind.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris A. Steele Kitchen and son - in - law, Joseph W. Kitchen of Central City; two brothers, Edward Murphy of Central City and Carl Murphy of Greenville; a sister, Imogene Clines of Carlisle, Ind.; three grandchildren, Kimberly J. Kitchen Kerley and spouse, Mark T. Kerley of Glasgow, Lorie A. Kitchen Thomas and spouse Donald D. Thomas of Lancaster, Ky. and Cory J. Kitchen of Central City; six great - grandchildren, Cale D. RUSSELLVILLE - Dee Butler Suiter, 70, died Thursday, May 19, 2005 at Logan Memorial Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County May 30, 1934, the daughter of the late John and Ettna Butler. She was a self - employed hairdresser for over 47 years and a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Danny Suiter of Russellville and Terry Hayes of Ochechobee, Fla.; a sister, Jean Hankins; a brother, Sclease Butler and two grandchildren.

David L. Winters
EVANSVILLE - David L. Winters, 69, died Friday, May 20, 2005 at his residence.
Born in Columbus, Kansas June 24, 1934, he retired from the U. S. Navy after 22 years of service where he was a Hospital Coreman. He also worked at Boetticher, Kellogg and the Evansville Public Library after 15 years as head custodian in 1994. He was a member of the VFW Post #1114 and the U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a Kentucky Admiral.
Survivors inclued his wife, Daisy Winters, two stepdaughters, Lorraine Roth and Kathy Lenard, four stepsons, Bill Saddler, Mike Saddler, Tim Saddler and David Saddler; a sister, Sarah Jessee and her husband, Gerald; a niece, Tammy Wallace of Frisco, Texas and five nephews, Jeff, Alex and Ben Jessee, all of Richland, Ind. and Andy and Steven Wallace, both of Frisco, Texas.
A private service and burial was held in Alexander Memorial Park in Evansville, Ind. Alexander West Chapel in Evansville was in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Simpson United Methodist Church or the VNA Charlier Hospice Center.
Charles Dewey Dwyer
GREENVILLE - Charles Dewey Dwyer, 82, of Greenville died suddenly Wednesday, May 14, at his residence.
Born May 19, 1920 in Muhlenberg County, he was a retired machinist at the Paradise TVA Steam Plant. He was a veteran, having served in World War II, the Korean War and the Berlin Crisis. He retired as a Command Sergeant Major and was also a recruiter for the military service. He served 39 years in the military, nine years active service and 30 years active reserve time. He was a member of Hazel Creek Masonic Lodge #842, a life member of the VFW Post 5478 and a life member of the disabled American Veterans #110
He is survived by one daughter, Becky Wright of Greenville; three sons, Mickey Dwyer of Drakesboro, Terry Dwyer of Russellville and Buddy Dwyer of Gillette, Wyoming; ten grandchildren; 21 great - grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Evelyn Miller of Alcoa, Tenn.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 17, at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Davis officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery with full military rites.
Loshia Mae Rager
BREMEN - Loshia Mae Rager, 88, of Bremen, died Wednesday, May 14, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born Sept. 22, 1914 in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Bremen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Rager; one son, William Rager; and one daughter, Nana Lou Rager.
She is survived by two sons, John R. Rager and Earl Rager, both of Bremen; one daughter, Margaret Koonce of Bremen; one stepdaughter, Geneva Jane Rager of Bremen; 10 grandchildren; 12 great - grandchildren; two great - great - grandchildren; and one brother, Lonnie Rager of Owensboro.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 16, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Mike Neal officiating. Burial followed in Cherry Hill Cemetery.
Vicki Darlene Jessup
SPENCER, TENN. - Vicki Darlene Jessup, 45, of Spencer, died Tuesday, May 13, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 11, 1957 in Tell City, Ind., she was the daughter of Victor Hempfling and Janice Clark. She was a homemaker and member of Welchland Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Malcolm Jessup of Spencer; her father, Victor Hempfling of Evansville, Ind.; her mother and stepfather, Janice and Bobby Clark of Livermore; four stepchildren, Kimberly McKinney of Beechmont, Kristy Butcher of Watertown, New York, Angie Jessup of Spencer, Tenn. and Malcolm Jessup II of Central City; one sister, Bobby Ann Watkins of Henderson; three brothers, Rick Hempfling and Ed Hempfling, both of Owensboro; and Tony Ford of Bardstown.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 16, with the Revs. Jeff Worrix and Jerry Williams officiating. Burial followed in Vernal Grove Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
