Rhea Nell Rhoads Bowman Spurlin, 83, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006 as a result of an automobile accident. She is sadly missed by family and friends. Heaven rejoices.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Sept. 2, 1922 to Jefferson Forrest Rhoads and Ethel Skipworth Rhoads Smith, her step - father was John Orville Smith. A member of Greenville Second Baptist Church, she was well known for her machine quilted quilts and crocheted scrubbers. She was preceded in death by her parents and step - father; her first husband, Seamon Bowman; her second husband, Winbern Spurlin; two brothers, Ryland Rhoads and Reginald Rhoads and a great granddaughter, Hannah Vincent.
Survivors include three daughters, Lequeta (Wayne) Sweeney of Festus, Mo., Regina “Jeanie” (Harold) Morris of Bremen and Sandra “Sandy” (Charles) Short of Sturgis; a step - daughter, Tonia (Joe) Kaelin of Louisville; a brother, Dale (Mary Jo) Smith of Bowling Green; a sister - in - law, Jo Rhoads of Clarksville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Susan (Marty) Vaughn, Karen (Charlie) Vaughn, Amy (Steve) Gans, Rusty (LaDonna) Morris, Kelly (Ricky) Vincent, Lori (Mark) Brady, Chuck (Joy) Short and Jesse Browning; two step grandchildren, Tiffany (David) Mills and Jason (Trishia) Richardson; 33 great grandchildren, two step - great grandchildren; two great - great grandsons; two nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. May 10 at Greenville Second Baptist Church with Dr. Ray England and the Rev. Bob Thurman officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be at 4 p.m. May 9 at Gary’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Second Baptist Church Building Fund.

Hazel Gill Moore

ORLANDO – Hazel Gill Moore, 87, died Sunday, April 30, 2006.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Oct. 27, 1918, she was the daughter of Victor Stone and Norma Gossett.
Survivors include a daughter, Rheba (Dr. Carl) Gill Ferking of Orlando; three brothers, Billy (Paula) Stone of Utica, W.C. (Clemmentine) Stone of Greenville, Texas and Robert Stone of Dawson Springs; two step - sons, Rick Moore of West Palm Beach and Edward (Ann) Moore of Jeffersonville, Ind. and a granddaughter, De De Vane (Michael) of Orlando.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. May 6 at Gary’s Funeral Home. Burial followed at Corley Chapel Church Cemetery in Graham.

Bonnie June Rich

Bonnie June Rich, 72, died Thursday, May 4, 2006 at her residence.
Born in Ohio County, June 23, 1934, she was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Dorothy King; a son, Randy Earl Cartwright and a daughter, Patricia Kay Thomas.
Survivors include her husband, James W. Rich; six sons, James M. Rich of Greenville, William Thomas Rich, John David Rich and Joseph Clay Rich, all of Central City, Donald Steven Rich of Texas and Ronald Ray Rich of Oklahoma; a daughter, Deborah Elrod of Oklahoma; a sister, Sue Harris of Texas; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great - great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. May 7 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Mooneyhan officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Helen Elizabeth Dukes

GREENVILLE – Helen Elizabeth Dukes, 77, died Thursday, May 4, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital following several weeks’ illness.
Born in Christian County, Dec. 1, 1928, she was the daughter of Nash Johnson and Ella Davis Johnson. A member of the Lone Star General Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Dukes in 2004; a son, Michael Dukes in 2002 and a brother, Mike Dukes.
Survivors include two daughters, Agnes Dukes and Debra Scarbrough, both of Greenville; four sons, Oscar Dukes, Larry Dukes and Howard Dukes, all of Greenville and Charles Dukes of Tell City, Ind.; four sisters, Shirley Rager of Elizabethtown, Bertha Segers of Greenville and Willodean Bayet and Patsy Naylor, both of Hopkinsville; 20 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 7 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Pitzer officiating. Burial followed at Emberry Cemetery.

Edith Fay Skipworth Sweeney

GREENVILLE – Edith Fay Skipworth Sweeney, 53, died Sunday, May 7, 2006 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville after a sudden illness.
Born in Hopkinsville, Feb. 21, 1953, she was the daughter of Ray Skipworth and Betty Joyce Whitaker Skipworth. She was a mental health technician at Cumberland Hall in Hopkinsville for 10 years, a member of Joines Chapel General Baptist Church and an outstanding cook.
Survivors include a son, Jeremy Lee Sweeney of Greenville; four brothers, William Ray “Bill” (Francis) Skipworth, Eddie Lee (Sandra) Skipworth and Ricky Darrell Skipworth, all of Clifty and Gene Thomas Skipworth of Greenville; two sisters, Deborah Ann Shelton and Elaine (William) Walker, both of Greenville; a grandson, Hunter Lee Snyder; two granddaughters, Chandler Owens and Carys Owens and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. May 11 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Harley Watkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Blake Family Cemetery in Clifty. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. May 10 and after 9 a.m. May 11 at Gary’s Funeral Home.

Verna Ellen Cornette Wagoner

GREENVILLE – Verna Ellen Cornette Wagoner, 84, died Sunday, May 7, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 10, 1922, she was the daughter of Brank Slaton “Pete” Cornette and Mattie Mae Munday Cornette. She was a member of Carter Creek Baptist Church in Greenville and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Wagoner in 1978; a brother, Euel Cornette; four sisters, Ina Cornette, Grace Lancaster, Elsie Horn and Nannie Dukes.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy Wagoner of Greenville; a daughter, Carolyn (Paul) Vincent of Greenville; a brother, L.B. Cornette of Greenville; four sisters, Alean Shutt, Bernice Dukes, Eula Nell Newman and Barbara Johnson, all of Greenville; two grandchildren, Scott (Hope) Vincent of Greenville and Melissa (Steve) Price of Louisville; a step granddaughter, Darlene Holland of Greenville; five great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren and several step great - great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. May 10 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow at Carter Creek Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. May 10 at Gary’s Funeral Home.

Douglas Earl Rager
CLEATON - Douglas Earl Rager, 68, of Cleaton, died Monday, April 28, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
A native of Muhlenberg County, he was a retired saw mill worker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Holbert and Gladys Rager; and one brother, Dennis Rager.
He is survived by two brothers, Bobby (Patty) Rager and Jerry Rager, both of Cleaton; three sisters, Martha (Dan) Jones of Greenville, Frances (Wendell) Moore of Powderly and Judy Bellamy of Central City; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 1, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Robert Wilkins

Robert Wilkins, 89, of Central City, died Monday, April 28, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born Dec. 8, 1913 in McLean County, he was a member of Reservoir Hill Pentecostal Church and was retired from Illinois Central Railroad.
He is survived by four sons, Darrell Harrison of Florida, John Wilkins of Fredericksburg, Va., Bob Wilkins and Danny Wilkins, both of Central City; two daughters, Ann Crank of West Hamlin, W. Va. and Mary Stewart of Norris City, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; several great - grandchildren; and one great - great - grandchild.
Graveside services and burial were held Thursday, May 1, at New Hope Cemetery in Moorman with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Hallie Mae Adcock

Halie Mae Acock, 82, of Central City, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home in Madisonville.
Born July 2, 1920 in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Dexter Adcock; two brothers, William Noffsinger and Everett Noffsinger; and two sisters, Lena Casey and Eura Adcock.
She is survived by three sons, Bobby Dexter Adcock and Sherman Gene Adcock, both of Central City, and Larry Thomas Adcock of Madisonville; four daughters, Kathleen Meador of Louisville, Lula Mae Jackson of LaGrange, Ruby Nell Jones of Bremen and Hallie Jane Jewell of Hopkinsville; one brother, John Hubert Noffsinger of Oxford, Ind.; one sister, Pauline Sigers of Central City; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 2 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. J. W. Haire officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Donnis W. Dukes

GREENVILLE - Donnis W. Dukes, 66, of Greenville, died Wednesday, April 30, at his residence.
Born Nov. 6, 1936 in Muhlenberg County, he was formerly employed by Peabody, Amex and Andalex Coal Companies. He also owned and operated Dukes Dozer Service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Dukes.
He is survived by one son, Dr. Michael W. Dukes of Venice, Fla.; two grandchildren, Christopher M. Dukes and Meghan C. Dukes; one great - grandchild, Rachael Dukes; one sister, Margorie Allen of Greenville; and one brother, George W. Dukes of Greenville.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial followed in Cherry Grove Cemetery in Weir.

Lelia Anderson Bethel

GREENVILLE - Lelia Anderson Bethel, 91, of Greenville, died Thursday, May 1, at Maple Manor Health Care Center in Greenville after a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 15, 1912 in Muhlenberg County, the daughter of David Allen Garrett and Sarah Elizabeth Jackson Garrett, she was a member of Duvall’s Chapel General Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil Anderson; second husband, Sam Bethel; daughter, Maebell Bethel; and grandson, Junior Cornell.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Cornell of Greenville and Daisy Rice of Greenville; seven grandchildren; 16 great - grandchildren; several great - great - grandchildren; four stepdaughters, Wilma Knight of Hillside, Teenie Yonts of Louisville, Judy Albersole of Louisville and Diane Crick of Greenville; and several step - grandchildren and step - great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with the Revs. Ken Miller and Walter Evitts officiating. Burial followed in Nebo Cemetery.

Michael Gregory Byers

DRAKESBORO - Michael Gregory Byers, 60, of Drakesboro, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at his residence.
Born Nov. 28, 1942 in Muhlenberg County, he was a member of Cleaton Baptist Church and was a saw mill owner.
He is survived by one son, Perry Byers of Owensboro; one daughter, Maria Cansler of Dawson Springs; one grandchild, Lauren Byers of Owensboro; five step - grandchildren; one stepson, Eddie Willoughby of Texas; one stepdaughter, Tammy Willoughby of Drakesboro; and one sister, Sherry Tipton of Greenville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 6, at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. J. W. Haire officiating. Burial followed in Island Methodist Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Fulkerson

OWENSBORO - Mary Elizabeth Fulkerson, 85, of Owensboro, died Friday, May 2, 2003, at Leisure Years Nursing Home.
Born in McLean County, she was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church, a lay speaker in the Methodist Church, and was the first female lay leader at Woodlawn. She taught Sunday school for more than 40 years and held most offices on the Administrative Board in the Methodist Church. She was a Kentucky Colonel and was valedictorian of her senior class at Drakesboro High School. She retired as a bookkeeper for E. M. Ford. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Carl T. Davis Jr. in 1964.
She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Marshall E. Fulkerson; one son, Carl T. Davis III of Owensboro; one stepson, Larry Fulkerson of Sparta, Tenn.; one daughter, Patricia Krahwinkel of Owensboro; one stepdaughter, Marsha Perkins of Havre De Grace, Md.; three granddaughters; one great - grandson; four step - grandchildren; and six step - great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 5, at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial followed in Rosehill Cemetery in Central City.

Jesse Rodgers “Ro Ro” Williams

Lt. Colonel Jesse Rodgers “Ro Ro” Williams, retired, 61, of Central City, died Saturday, May 3, at his residence in Central City.
Born Aug. 30, 1941 in Muhlenberg County, he graduated from Central City High School and attended Western Kentucky University, Brescia University, Madisonville Community College, Elizabethtown Community College and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He served as job steward for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers while employed at Paradise Steam Plant. He was appointed to an unexpired term as Muhlenberg County PVA and was elected to two full terms from 1973 - 1981 and also served as President of the Kentucky PVA Association. He was elected to the Central City Board of Education and served from 1983 - 1986. He was elected mayor of Central City and served from 1994 - 1998. He was currently on the Board of Directors for Western Kentucky Botanical Garden. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army for thirty years and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He was a member of the Ccntral Lodge #673, F. & A.M. and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jewell Dean Everly Williams; one daughter, Jennifer Anne Williams; one brother, Lloyd “B.B.” Williams of Central City; five sisters, Margaret Ann Williams, Nancy E. Williams, and Agnes Noffsinger, all of Central City, Jane Harreld of Pleasant Ridge and Dorothy N. Spinks of Owensboro; one niece, Amy E. Mayes of Central City; and two great nieces, Macey Elizabeth Mayes and Meredith Grace Mayes, both of Central City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial, with military rites, will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Muhlenberg County Branch of the Madisonville Community College or the Central City First United Methodist Church.

Delorious June Caskey Shipley

LOUISVILLE - Delorious June Caskey Shipley, 58, of Louisville, died at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville Sunday, May 4, 2003, following a lengthy illness.
Born Nov. 17, 1944 in Muhlenberg County, she graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1966 Magnum Cum Laude. She was the first female C.P.A. in Kentucky. She retired as an agent for the Internal Revenue Service in 1984. She was treasurer of the Harvest Baptist Church in Louisville for nine years. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas J. Caskey.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, David Shipley of Louisville; her mother, Louise Ebling Caskey of Graham; four brothers, Tommy (Dean) Caskey of Graham, Bobby Caskey and Rick (Jennie) Caskey, both of Madisonville and Gerald (JoAnne) Caskey of Bowling Green; four sisters, Sedona (Thomas) Arnett of Greenville, Patsy Millay of Central City, Cecilia Mallory of Drakesboro and Yvonne (Bob) Moore of Alvaton, Ky.; 10 nephews; 10 nieces; six great - nieces; seven great - nephews; three great - great - nephews; two great - great - nieces; two uncles; and several aunts and cousins.
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Second Baptist Church in Greenvile. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, also at Second Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jack L. Alumbaugh and Mark Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Yeargins Chapel Cemetery in Graham. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Harvest Baptist Church in Louisville. Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.
