Willis Darrell Raley, 69, died Thursday, April 28, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Bevier, Aug. 24. 1935, the son of the late Jay and Willie Raley, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Central City. He owned and operated Raley’s Parkway Chevron for 45 years and was a member of the Central City Masonic Lodge #673. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Jean Raley, two brothers, Junior Raley and Billy Raley and a sister Barbara Johnson.
Survivors include two sons, Kenny (Pat) Raley and Larry (Karen) Raley both of Central City; a brother, the Rev. Jerry (Joann) Raley of Mayfield; a sister, Beradean (Thomas) Warman of Drakesboro; two grandchildren, Larra Raley and Lindsey Raley both of Central City; four step-grandchildren, Mike, Sammy, Austin and Abbi and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 1 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Lowery officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Annette Harrison Huff
BELTON - Annette Harrison Huff, 34, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
Born in Daviess County, Dec. 5, 1970, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Gaela Harrison, she was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Belton. She was employed by Flynn Corp. as a machine operator.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Huff; three sons, R.J. Hutchings, Rusty Harrison and Ricky Huff Jr., all of Belton; a step-son, Cody Huff of Drakesboro; a step-daughter, Ashley Huff of Drakesboro; a brother, Jimmy Harrison of Powderly; two sisters, Tammy Phelps of Belton and Sherry Harrison of Lewisburg; a grandmother, Catherine Charley of Oak Town, Ind.; several nieces and nephews; a great - nephew, Chandler Phelps and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. April 29 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Foster officiating and the Rev. Mike Foster Jr. assisting. Burial followed at Memorial Gardens in Powderly.
Gloria Jean Randolph
BROWDER - Gloria Jean Randolph, 52, died Monday, April 25, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County March 13, 1953, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her companion, Jerry D. Jones; a son, Brian (Candie) Randolph, both of Browder; her mother, Gladys Stevens of Central City; a sister, Dovie (Bunkie) Fleming of Browder; two brother Larry (Karen) Stevens of Browder and Ray Stevens of Greenville; two nephews and four nieces.
Funeral services were held April 28 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Foster officiating. Burial followed in Union Chapel Cemetery.
Joe “J.W.” Rickard
MADISONVILLE - Joe “J.W.” Rickard, 81, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County March 19, 1924, he was the son of the late George Rickard and Hazel Fugate Rickard. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He was a trucker driver of Ligon Trucking, retired from Peabody Star Coal Mines in 1984, was a member of UMWA District 23, and an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anita Pearl Rickard and four brothers, Harvey Earl Rickard, William H. Rickard, Sterling P. Rickard and George E. Rickard.
Survivors include his wife, Fairy Littlepage Rickard; two daughters, Linda Short of Nebo and Teresa Roberson of Shelbyville; two sisters, Ada Hancock and Inez Ligon, both of Madisonville; one brother Don S. Rickard of Hanson and three grandsons.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. April 28 at the Barnett - Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Tondra Daughtery officiating. Burial followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Lucy Smith Jernigan
MADISONVILLE - Lucy Smith Jernigan, 85, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at Regional Medical Center.
Born in Depoy Dec. 29, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Robert E. Smith and Delia Ann Vincent Smith. She was a member of the Madisonville First Baptist Church and a baker for the former Western KY T.B. Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Clyde Austin Jernigan; a son, Belia Wayne Jernigan; and one great - grandson, Russell William Whitaker.
Survivors include two daughters Freda Knight of Fort Worth, Texas and Zula Dupree of Madisonville; six grandchildren and 16 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. April 29 at the Barnett - Stother Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Leonard officiating. Burial followed in Vernal Grove Cemetery in Depoy.
Martha Raley Johnson
MADISONVILLE - Martha Raley Johnson, 86, died Friday, April 29, 2005 at Regional Medical Center.
Born in Muhlenberg County March 17, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Oda Dee and Gertie Raley. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hopkinsville. She was preceded by her first husband, Jesse Howard Leach and her second husband, Odell Johnson; a brother, Richard Raley and two sisters, Lucille Devivo and Connie Payne.
Survivors include three sons, William P. “Bill” Leach of Madison, Ala., Max Leach of Campbellsville and John Leach of Tulsa, Okla.; a step-son, Dr. E.B. Johnson of Boston, Mass.; a step daughter, Nora Jordan of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Helen Taylor of Central City and Kay Underwood of Greenville; eight grandchildren and several great - grandchildren and several great - great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. May 2 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Taylor officiating. Burial followed in Green Hill Memorial Gardens in Hopkinsville.
Odessa Freeman Hope Willis
Odessa Freeman Hope Willis, 84, died Friday, April 29, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Ohio county Sept. 17, 1920, she was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Deward Willis; two sons, Thomas Willis of Taylorsville and Larry Willis of Central City; a daughter, Shelby Everly of Central City; 10 grandchildren; 22 great - grandchildren and four great - great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. May 3 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Everly officiating and assisted by Larry Willis. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Ernest Lucky Staples, Sr.
LOUISVILLE - Ernest Lucky Staples, Sr., 60, died Monday, May 2, 2005 at his residence. He went to his Heavenly father following a battle with cancer.
Born in Muhlenberg County Aug. 1, 1944, he was a self - employed building contractor and a member of Free Will Baptist Church in Louisville.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Pauline Staples; a son, Earnest (Kristy) Staples Jr. of Louisville; a daughter, Stacy (David) Foley of Louisville; two step-daughters, Vickie (Phil) Stevens of Somerset and Rita (Sorb) Chaharlang of Albuqerque, N.M.; five sisters, Shirley (Mike) Carver and Sue (Ray) Piper of Belton, Dorothy (P.J.) Piper of Beechcreek, Louis Toomey of Huntsville and Myrtle Dennis of Utica; two brothers, Jimmy (Hilda) Staples of Drakesboro and Rondal (Ruth) Staples of Utica and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. May 4 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy J. Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Butler County. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. May 3 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home.
Emma Jean Johnson Wells
GREENVILLE – Emma Jean Johnson Wells, 75, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, July 30, 1930, she was a homemaker and housewife. The daughter of George Willard Johnson and Nannie Lou “Bertie” Munday Johnson, she was a member of New Paradise Baptist Church in Greenville.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Wells, Jennie (Tony) Stanley and Melody (Jimmy) Browning, all of Greenville; a sister, Peggy McGehee of Greenville; two grandchildren, Jordan Fulkerson and Preston Browning, both of Greenville and a step grandchild, Coty Stanley of Greenville.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. April 29 at New Paradise Church in Greenville with the Rev. Tim Adcock officiating. Burial followed at Carter Creek Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
James R. Baugh
NEWBURGH, IND. – James R. Baugh, 87, died Monday, April 24, 2006 at Cypress Grove Nursing and Rehab Center in Newburgh.
Born in Logan County, Sept. 27, 1918, he was a retired laborer from Alcoa and a member of Bellview Baptist Church in Owensboro. He was preceded in death by his parents, H.O. and Jo Ann Fitzhugh Baugh.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Baugh; a daughter, Gloria Self of Newburgh; a brother, Harold Baugh of Dunmor; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. April 26 at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg with the Rev. Jeremy Whitney officiating. Burial followed at Dunmor Cemetery in Dunmor.
Beulah Mae Mooningham
POWDERLY – Beulah Mae Mooningham, 94, died Monday, April 24, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Nov. 17, 1911, she was a retired teacher. The daughter of Charles Alva and Maude Watkins Reno, she was a 1930 graduate of Bremen High School and attended Western Kentucky University. She taught at Cherry Hill and Nebo for nine years before her marriage to Hubert C. Mooningham and Willow Glen School in 1949 - 1950. In 1950 she taught at Muhlenberg Central School and continued at Longest Elementary School until she retired in 1976. A 1960 graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College, she resided in Bradenton, Fla. from 1941 - 1945 until she returned to live in Bremen for a year before moving near Powderly, where she resided since 1946. Member of Powderly Baptist Church since 1946, she was a former member of Cherry Hill Baptist Church, the First Baptist Church in Bradenton, Fla. and the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bremen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert C. Mooningham in 1980.
Survivors include two sons, H.C. (Carol) Mooningham of Central City and Dr. John W. (Gretchen) Mooningham of Saginaw, Mich.; five grandchildren, Sean (Tina) Mooningham of Central City, Erin Mooningham of Nashville; Matthew Mooningham of Richmond, Mark Mooningham of Detroit and Timothy Mooningham of Saginaw, Mich.; a great - grandchild, Gabrielle Mooningham of Central City; two brothers, James (Betty) Reno and Carl (Shirley) Reno; sister, Dorothy Paxton of Central City and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. April 28, at Powderly Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Fitzhugh, the Rev. Gene Harper and the Rev. Robert Reno officiating. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Ronald G. Hardison
GREENVILLE – Ronald G. Hardison, 69, died Monday, April 24, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born June 4, 1936, he was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Lee Grace Wilson and father, A.B. Hardison, Jr. A retired coal miner, he enjoyed farming and oil field work. He operated the Lone Star Oil and Gas, Inc., enjoyed quail hunting and golfing with friends. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Greenville.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Newman Hardison; a son, Dr. Barry G. (Debbie) Hardison of Greenville; a daughter Cindy (Jerry) Coffey of Parrish, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jordan Hardison and Dusty Miller, both of Greenville and Destyn Miller of Parrish, Fla.; three step grandchildren, Jarrod Augustino of Greenville and Samantha Coffey and Matthew Coffey, both of Florida; step-mother, Ophelia Hardison of Greenville; two brothers, Curtis (Jean) Hardison of Weir and Bob (Violet) Hardison of Sebree; a step-brother, Billy Jean (Verna Faye) Johnston of Greenville and 13 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. April 28 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob C. Hardison and Dr. Ray England officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the long - term care unit of the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Shirley Jean Hoeffler
GREENVILLE – Shirley Jean Hoeffler, 63, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Dec. 1, 1942, she was a housewife and homemaker and of the Baptist faith. The daughter of James Curtis Rose and Julia Brown Rose, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Hoeffler in 1983 and a granddaughter, Haley Bethel in 2001.
Survivors include two daughters, Tanya (Daniel) Rust of Greenville and Jamie Bethel of Depoy; a son, David Wayne (Violett) Hoeffler of Hollywood, S.C.; two brothers, Claude Rose of Dawson Springs and James Allen Rose of Princeton; two sisters, Clara Scott of Depoy and Dorothy Nell Stewart of Graham and three grandchildren, Daniel Keith Rust of Greenville, William Sanders of Luzerne and Victoria June Hoeffler of Hollywood, S.C.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. April 29 at Graham Hill Cemetery in Graham with the Rev. T.H. Davis officiating. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Ray E. “Gene” Geary
MOORMAN – Ray E. “Gene” Geary, 78, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Aug. 21, 1927, he was retired from the Kentucky Utilities Green River Power Station. Preceded in death by his parents, Jenny and Nonnie Geary and four sisters, Naomi Geary, Eva Holmes, Mable Lane and Faye Booth, he was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Jean Geary; two sons, Harold Wayne (Vicky) Geary and Michael Ray Geary, both of Moorman; two daughters, Donna Elaine (Randy) Harlan of Moorman and Deborah Moore Gregory of Belton; a brother, Jimmy (Jackie) Geary of Bourbonnias, Ill.; two sisters, Wilma (Bob) James of Kankakee, Ill. and Ruby Neal of Moorman; six grandchildren, Luba Hearld Garrett of Central City, Brandon D. Harlan and Hunter Slinker, both of Owensboro, Kelly Goff of Bremen, and Tia Mitchell and Michelle Johnson, both of Moorman and 10 great - grandchildren.

Rhea Nell Spurlin, 83, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006 in an automobile accident.

Wade Howell
GREENVILLE – Wade Howell, 42, formerly of Island, died Friday, April 21, 2006.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Aug. 17, 1963, he was formerly employed as a driver for A.D.S. of Livermore. He enjoyed truck driving, fishing and spending time with friends and family. He enjoyed attending services at both Church Street General Baptist Church in Bremen and Covenant Community Church in Madisonville.
Survivors include his wife, Pam Howell of Island; a daughter, Jennifer Howell of Central City; a step-daughter, Dei dra Boyken of Hanson; father, Gene Howell of Powderly; mother, Madine Ray of Dunmor; a brother, Mike Howell of Greenville; two sisters, Robin (Steve) Lear of Greenville and Teresa (Joe) Mitchell of Central City; a step-sister, Nicole (Jason) Miller; a step-brother, Mike (Sandy) Ray; two step-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and numerous other family members.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. April 24 at Muster Funeral Home in Livermore with the Rev. Danny Greene and the Rev. Michael Knight officiating. Burial followed at Island Community Cemetery in McLean County.

BREMEN – Vernell Higgins, 73, died Saturday, April 29, 2006 at her residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, June 19, 1932, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Joe Higgins of Bremen; a daughter, Tammy Wilkins of Bremen; two grandchildren and two great - grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. May 1 at Brier Creek Cemetery in Bremen. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
