Central City - Mr. J. Frank Hays, 90, of Central City died Thursday, May 30, 2002 at the residence of his nephew, Larry Mercer in Owensboro.
Mr. Hays was born on April 3, 1912 in Butler County. He was a member of Rochester Christian Church in Rochester where he was a church elder, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, member of the choir and chairman of the Rochester Cemetery Committee. Mr. Hays was a retired elementary school principal in Elizabethtown serving there for 18 years. He was a public school administrator for 32 years and was a graduate of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. Mr. Hays was a Lt. Commander in the United States Navy serving in the European Theater during World War II. He was also a veteran of the Korean War and served at the American Embassy in London, England. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, James Hays in 1967.
Survivors include four nephews, Larry Mercer of Owensboro, Ken Mercer of Central City, Jimmy Hays of Williston, Florida and Randy hays of Williston, Florida; and one niece, Kathy Porter of Rochester.
Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Rochester Cemetery with Reverend C.W. Duncan officiating.

Clella Zethia Elmore
Browder - Ms. Clella Zethia Elmore, 95, of Browder died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at the MNCC in Morganfield.
Ms. Elmore was born in Butler County on May 13, 1907. She was a homemaker and a member of New Paradise Church in Greenville.
Survivors include one son, J.C. Elmore of Drakesboro; one daughter, Faye Brown of Morganfield; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary Stewart of Greenville and Geneva Rich and Elizabeth Powell both of Morganfield.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Tim Adcock officiating. Burial followed in Forest Grove Cemetery in Browder.
Lovetta Combs Melton
Greenville - Mrs. Lovetta Combs Melton, 71, of Greenville died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mrs. Melton was born in Perry County on January 30, 1931. She was a homemaker and a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Browning.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Melton of Greenville; one son, Mark Melton of Greenville; four daughters, Wanda Melton Roberts of Lexington, Shirley Melton Beard of Central City, Brenda Gibson of Greenville and Barbara Keith of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Bargert, Brad Gibson, Brian and Geoffrey Roberts, April Jessup, Andrea Toll, Shannon Smith and Hannah Melton; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Logan Combs, Jimmy Combs and Jack Combs all of Ypsilanti, Michigan; and five sisters, Dorothy Campbell of Ulvah, KY, Mollie Combs of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Janis Howell of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Helen Lambert of Belleville, Michigan; and Imogene Matheson of Ulvah, KY.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Jeff Morris officiating. Burial followed in Cave Springs Cemetery in Greenville.
Cirlen Romeo Wells
Greenville - Mr. Cirlen Romeo Wells, 82, of Greenville died Monday, May 20, 2002 in the Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Wells was born in Todd County on April 18, 1920. He was a retired logger and farmer. He was of the Baptist faith and was a Navy Veteran of World War II.
Survivors include three sons, Dwight Wells of Greenville, Darrell Wells of Greenville and Jackie Wells of Chicago, Illinois; two daughters, Debrah Shaver of Central City and Sue Smith of Clifty; nine grandchildren; one brother, Otho Wells of Madisonville; and one sister, Elnora Blaker of St. Louis, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 23, 2002 at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with Reverend Bob Thurman officiating. Burial followed in the Greenbriar Cemetery in Greenville.
Sue Ann Knight Hardison
Belton - Mrs. Sue Ann Knight Hardison, 57, of Belton died Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at her residence.
Mrs. Hardison was born in Muhlenberg County on October 23, 1944. She was a Floral Designer, the former owner from 1977-1998 of the Beechmont Florist and was a homemaker. She was a member of Mud River Union General Baptist Church in Belton.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Hardison of Belton; one son, Wade Hardison of Belton; four daughters, Robin (Kent) Rhoads of Berry, KY, Shawnia (Ty) Motsinger of Lewisburg, Tonya (Zack) Arnold of Belton and Stormie (Greg) Sigers of Greenville; five grandchildren, Christopher Rhoads of Henderson, Wende Hockensmith of Cynthiana, KY, Kenzie Christerson of Belton, River Arnold of Belton and Caitlin Hardison of Belton; one great-grandchild, Hunter Hockensmith; four brothers, Arthur Knight of Beechmont, Royce Knight of Port Heron, Michigan, James Knight of Pontiac, Michigan and Marion Knight of Demont, Indiana; and one sister, Betty Knight Steele of Beech Creek.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 24, 2002 at Mud River Union Church with Reverend Roy Day officiating and Reverend James Knight assisting. Burial followed in Mud River Union Cemetery in Belton.

Edna May Payne
Drakesboro - Ms. Edna Mae Payne, 83, of Drakesboro died Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Ms. Payne was born in Butler County on September 12, 1918. She was a factory worker and a member of Covert Ave. Baptist Church in Evansville.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Edward Bolie of Florida; one daughter, Mary Frances Mohen of Belton; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one half-sister, Nancy Eric of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Burial was in Park Lawn Cemetery in Evansville.

Conrad Huff
Drakesboro - Mr. Conrad Huff, 88, of Paducah, formerly of Drakesboro, died Friday, May 24, 2002 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.
Mr. Huff was born in Muhlenberg County on December 3, 1913. He was a retired shop foreman at Sash-Doors. He was a member of the Drakesboro Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, C.H. Huff of Chicago and Dale Huff of Rhode Island; two daughters, Connie Huff of Chicago and Patsy Ann Martin of Paducah; and one sister, Louise Newton of Louisiana.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 27, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Beechmont with Reverend Ted Everly officiating. Burial followed in Ebenezer Cemetery in Ebenezer.
Bernard Cox, Sr.
Owensboro - Mr. Bernard Cox, Sr., 87, of Owensboro died Friday, May 24, 2002 at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro.
Mr. Cox was born in Lawrenceville, Illinois. He was the retired owner of Bernard Cox Drilling Company and a member of Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church since 1955. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #130 F&AM, American Legion, a lifetime member of the Noon Optimist Club and an Army Veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Anna Elizabeth Payne Cox of Owensboro; two sons, Bernard Cox, Jr. of Lewisport and Bradley Cox of Owensboro; four daughters, Brenda Cox Carlton of Mt. Carmel, IL, Saundra Cox Hamilton of Charlotte, N.C., Martha Cox Shafferman of Louisville and Nancy Cox Evans of Owensboro; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Reverend Billy Joe Cox of Louisville, G.C. Cox of Owensboro and Gaylor E. “Casey” Cox of Lexington; and two sisters, Cathleen Pollock of Greenville and Jean Sumner of Owensboro.

Mr. Woodburn was born in McLean County on October 5, 1929. He was owner and operator of Woodburn Dial-A-Service and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Bremen.
Survivors include his wife, Dianna Helton Woodburn of Sacramento; two sons, Carlos Edward Woodburn of Bowling Green and Kenneth Wayne Woodburn of Ohio; three daughters, Karen Gole Druen of Bowling Green, Judith Annette Fountain of Montana and Myra Lynn Siekmann of Indiana; 10 grandchildren; one brother, James Vernon Woodburn of Sacramento; and two sisters, Barbara Ann Ingram and Helen Louise Vinson both of Greenville.

Bremen - Mrs. Tootsie Romans, 76, of Bremen died Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Mrs. Romans was born in Muhlenberg County on January 15, 1926. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Romans; five sons, Wayne Romans, Dean Romans, Dale Romans,Ray Romans and Robie Pascal Moore, Jr., all of Bremen; four daughters, Faye McIntosh, Kay Wood and Lynn Gamblin all three of Bremen and Sherry Collingsworth of South Carrollton; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray Doss of Michigan and David Doss of Tennessee; and one sister, Faye Horn of Michigan.

Omer S. Vincent
Lake Station, Indiana - Mr. Omer S. Vincent, 86, of Lake Station, Indiana, formerly of Greenville, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at the Saint Mary Medical Center in Hobart, Indiana.
Mr. Vincent was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lake Station, Indiana and was retired from both the W.G. Ducan Coal Company near Greenville and the Bud Company in Gary, IN. He had also worked as a security guard after retirement. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary F. Vincent, his parents, Marshall and Ida Vincent, one daughter, Thelma June Vincent, two brothers, Archy and Alvie Vincent and one sister, Drusie Bethel.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Vincent of Lake Station; one daughter, Sue Harris of Hobart, IN; one son, Herman (Brenda) Vincent of Demotte, IN; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Vincent of Greenville, KY; one niece; and one nephew.

Clemon Noffsinger
Madisonville - Mr. Clemon Noffsinger, Sr., 90, of Madisonville, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Versnick Health Care Center in Madisonville.
Mr. Noffsinger was born in Muhlenberg County on March 4, 1912 to the late William Jackson Noffsinger and Georgia Strader Noffsinger. He was of the Baptist faith and was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Marietta Koon Noffsinger; two sons, Thomas C. Noffsinger, Jr. of Madisonville and Larry Noffsinger of Nebo; four daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Yvonne) Galyen of Greenville, Mrs. Glenn (Ann) Tichenor, Mrs. Joe (Reba) Hicklin and Mary Lou Noffsinger, all of Madisonville; 10 grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Margaret W. Hendricks
Owensboro - Mrs. Margaret W. Hendricks, 83, of Owensboro died Saturday, May 18, 2002 at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Mrs. Hendricks was born in Muhlenberg County on April 10, 1919. She was retired from G.E. as a group leader engineering assistant. She was a member of Dunmor Baptist Church and enjoyed gospel music and taking care of her husband. She was preceded in death by one brother, Carley Wagoner and two sisters, Baugh and Gertie Briskell.
Survivors include her husband, Joe; one sister, Mildred Whitney of Dunmor; one brother, A.L. Wagoner of Beechland; and several nieces and nephews.

Harry Willard Hutchinson
Greenville - Mr. Harry Willard Hutchinson, 82, of Greenville died Friday, May 17, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after several months of illness.
Mr. Hutchinson was born in Caldwell County on April 27, 1920. He was a retired manager of the Western Kentucky Gas Company where he worked for 37 years. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and was a member of the Greenville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marguerite Hutchinson of Greenville; one daughter, Karla Miller of Madisonville; three sons, Willard Hutchinson of Ocean City, Maryland, Don Hutchinson of Greenville and Dr. Larry Hutchinson of Lexington; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Francis Murphy of Princeton and Laura Stevens of Princeton.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 20, 2002 at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with Dr. Charles Midkiff officiating and Reverend Rob Gwaltney assisting. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.

Madisonville - Mrs. Opal Lois Patterson, 81, of Madisonville died Friday, May 17, 2002 at N.H.C. Healthcare in Madisonville.
Mrs. Patterson was born in McLean County on July 22, 1920. She was a retired nurse from Hopkins County Hospital and was of the Cumberland Presbyterian faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Patterson; one son, Thomas Patterson; one daughter, Cindy Crawford; and her parents, Fred and Erma Tucker.
Survivors include one son, Jimmie Patterson of Madisonville; two daughters, Brenda Combs and Patricia Oldham both of Madisonville; five grandchildren, Autumn Patterson of Madisonville, Melissa Parker of Murray, Julia Maddox of New York City, Scott Oldham and Sally Smith both of Bowling Green; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman Tucker of Owensboro; and three sisters, Esther Shepherd of Edwardport, IN, Reba Hinton and Eunice Decker both of Sacramento.

James Anderson Reed
Central City - Mr. James Anderson Reed, 83, of Central City died Friday, May 17, 2002 at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Mr. Reed was born in Muhlenberg County on January 14, 1919. He was former owner of Reed Furniture in Bremen and Central City.
Survivors include one niece, Jane Ely of Noblesville, IN; one nephew, Steve Reed of Noblesville, IN; and several cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 20, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial followed in Bluff Cemetery.
Christine Elizabeth Dawson
Owensboro - Ms. Christine Elizabeth Dawson, 72, of Owensboro died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at Owensboro Mercy Health System .
Ms. Dawson was born in Muhlenberg County on December 30, 1929. She was an electronic chip maker at Harris Semi Conductor in Florida.
Survivors include three sons, William (Cindy) Harris of Coffee Spring, AL, Anthony (Brenda) Harris of Owensboro and Roger (Judy) Harris of Samson, AL; one brother, William Alford of Owensboro; one sister, Patricia Mason of Nelson; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 18, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend James Anthony Mason officiating. Burial followed in New Harmony Cemetery.
