Born in Central City Sept. 26, 1942, the daughter of the late Robert and Thelma Mae Noffsinger Gaston, she was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Drousias.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna McMahon of Burbank, Ill. and Dena Patterson of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Alice Baldridge of Meridian, Idaho and Robbin Gaston of Bridgeview, Ill. and six grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. March 29 at Fairmount Cemetery in Central City with the Rev. William L. Hall officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Charlie Ray Lovell
POWDERLY Charlie Ray Lovell, 78, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at V.A. Medical Center in Columbia, Mo.
Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 23, 1926, he was a member of Mercer Baptist Church in Powderly, a former coal miner, Korean War army veteran and was retired from TVA.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Freda Lovell; a son, Billy Lovell of Central City; two daughters, Brenda Buchanan of Greenville and Wanda Luckett of Bremen; three brothers, Harold Lovell of Wooddale, Ill., Wendell Lovell and Kenneth Lovell of Greenville; a sister, Helen Martin of Counce, Ind.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. March 25 at Mercer Baptist Church in Powderly with the Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens in Powderly. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Wilda Yewell
SACRAMENTO Mary Wilda Yewell, 83, died Friday, March 25, 2005 at North Point Nursing Home in Lexington.
Born in McLean County Feb. 7, 1922, she was a homemaker and a member of Sacramento Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Terry Yewell of Lexington; a sister, Katherine Cabbage of Sacramento; three brothers, Charles W. Woodburn and Bobby Woodburn of Sacramento and Hershel Woodburn of Chattanooga, Tenn. and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. March 27 at Tucker Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Kimbrough Simmons and the Rev. Harold Butler officiating. Burial followed in Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in Sacramento.
Larry W. Boyle
LARGO, FLA. Larry W. Boyle, 63, formerly of Owensboro, died Saturday, March 26, 2005 at Hospice of the Woodside in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Born in Owensboro May 5, 1941, the son of the late James L. Boyle and Edith Moreland Epley, he was a former policeman for the Owensboro Police Department and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, John D. Epley.
Survivors include his wife, Delorice Embery Boyle; two daughters, Dana McCarty and Shelly Blythe, both of Owensboro; four sons, Larry Douglas Boyle of Owensboro, James R. Boyle of Springhill, Fla., Christopher Browning and Patrick Browning, both of Greenville; two sisters, Linda Epley and Judy Law, both of Owensboro; 17 grandchildren; two nephews and several cousins.
Funeral services will be at noon, March 30 at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. March 29 at James H. Davis Funeral Home.
Wilbert Austin Horton
BELTON Wilbert Austin Horton, 84, died Monday, March 21, 2005 at Logan Memorial Hospital in Russellville.
Born in Muhlenberg County Feb. 19, 1921, the son of the late Herman and Nora Mallory Horton, he was a farmer and a member of Horton’s Chapel Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Hudnall Horton.
The only survivor is his grandson, Johnny Horton of McHenry, Ky.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. March 24 at Horton’s Chapel Church of Christ with Paul Moore officiating. Burial followed in Horton’s Chapel Cemetery. Price Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mildred Vondell McPherson
DUNMOR Mildred Vondell McPherson, 87, died Sunday, March 27, 2005 at the Centennial Medical Center in Nashville after a brief illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 24, 1917, the daughter of the late Elmo and Chessie Driskill McPherson, she was a lifelong member of the Myers Chapel United Methodist Church. Having been the oldest in membership of that church, she was a very devoted and faithful member to it and to her community where she resided for 87 years of her life. She had been employed by Baxter Industries in Greenville and Rockwell International in Russellville from which she retired after 25 years. After her devotion to God and church, she loved her gardening and country cooking for her family and friends. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Louis in 1981, Windell Hoyt in 2003 and Cleon McPherson in 2005.
Survivors include two sisters, Ima Gossett and Ludie Bowers, both of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Beverly McPherson of Dunmor; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. March 30 at Myers Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brent Waltrip, Rev. Doug Phillips and Rev. Kenneth Vincent officiating. Burial will follow in McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. March 29 at Price Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in the form of donations to the McPherson Cemetery or the charity of your choice.
Margaret Mitchell Barger
GREENVILLE Margaret Mitchell Barger, 88, died Monday, March 15, 2004 in Louisville following a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, June 28, 1915, she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Barger.
Survivors include a daughter, Marian Dean Barger of Louisville; a brother, Billy Mitchell of Greenville; a sister, Virginia Galloway of Hopkinsville; and two nieces.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., March 19 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Vernon Perdue officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
Alfred A. Chapman
WOOSTER, OHIO Alfred A. Chapman, 75, went to be with the Lord after a brief illness Tuesday, March 16, 2004 in Horn Nursing Home.
Born in Gilmore City, Iowa, March 29, 1928, to the late Alnie Lee and Ora Inez Smith Chapman, he was a 1946 graduate of Rutland High School. He had worked for 19 years at Rubbermaid and owned his own business in the Loudonville area from 1964 to 1969. He worked for 10 years at Hilltop Villa in Wooster and retired from Wayne County Cancer Center after 15 years as a custodian. He attended Westhill Baptist Church, was a member of the Eagles, a former member of the Moose, and a member of the Fredericksburg American Legion and the sons of Herman in Massillon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Marie Hinkle Chapman.
Survivors include six sons, Jack (Sandy) Collins, Jimmy West, Kim (Debbie) Chapman, and Bruce (Mary Jo) Runyon, all of Wooster, Terry Chapman of Canton, Ohio, and Kevin (Sharon) Chapman of Fredericksburg; four daughters, Debbie (Rick) Berry, Patty West, and Annagale (Denver) Jones, all of Wooster, and Tanya (Webbie) Morris of Morgantown, Ky.; three brothers, Glenn (Helen) Chapman and Phil (Joyce) Chapman, both of Wooster and Roy (Laura) Chapman of Bryant, Ohio; three sisters, Delia Troxell and Imogene (Bob) Picklesimer, both of Wooster, and Phyllis (Bob) Beardsley of Lineville, Pa.; 32 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; significant other, Kay Shadley of Wooster; and close family, Marge and Vernon Terry of Morgantown.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., March 18 at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster with the Rev. Guy Morton officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery.

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS Hettie June Flores, 69, died Monday, March 15, 2004 after a long illness.
She was born in Muhlenberg County, Jan. 13, 1935, to the late Verna and Amos Anderson of Beech Creek. She was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Susan Lynn and Sheryl Ann, buried at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant Octavio Solis Flores, Jr.; four daughters, Suzanne Faye Flores (Cliff) Ming and Stephanie Kaye Flores (Mike) Squires, both of Corpus Christi, Anita Louis Flores (Monty) Glaze of Cibolo, Texas and Debra Penelope Flores (Jim) Grissom of Abilene, Texas; a son, Michael Anthony (Anna Marie) Flores of Corpus Christi; a sister, Joyce Holloman of Homestead, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at 1:45 p.m., March 18 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. Seaside Funeral Home Chapel in Corpus Christi, Texas was in charge of the arrangements.
Rose McPherson Rich
GREENVILLE Rose McPherson Rich, 85, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Sept. 30, 1918, to the late David Allen McPherson and Mary Caroline Miller, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Madison, Ala.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia Galyen Hall of Huntsville, Ala.; two sons, Mike Galyen of Greenville and Danny Rich of Central City; two stepdaughters, Jewell Rich Moore and Linda Rich Gish, both of Bremen; six grandchildren, Timothy Buss of Dallas, Texas, Mitch Galyen of Lake Malone, Susan Galyen Newman of Huntsville, Ala., David Hall of St. Mary’s, Ga., US Navy, John Galyen of Island and Taletha Rich of Marble Hill, Mo.; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., March 20 at Tucker Funeral Home with her grandson, the Rev. John Galyen assisted by the Rev. Gerald Jones officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
William Dawson Smith
DRAKESBORO William Dawson Smith, 91, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, March 17, 1913, to the late Phillip Mahlon Smith and Lola Elizabeth Hill Smith, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in Rhineland and Central Europe. He retired in 1970 after 37 years as a United Mine Worker of America coal miner. He was a member of Drakesboro Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Elsie McDonald Smith in October 2003, and a daughter, Sharon Kay Smith in 1950.
Survivors include two sons, Dawson Ray (Linda) Smith of Lewisburg and Jeff (Martha) Smith of Mount Washington, Ky.; two daughters, Regina (Don) Adler of Russellville and Jackie (David) Pogue of Drakesboro; three sisters, Billye Bauza of Evansville, Ind., Mae Laster of Central City and Peggy Plaza of Dallas, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., March 20 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Dukes and the Rev. Billy Dukes officiating. Burial followed in Ebenezer Cemetery in Ebenezer.
Shellie Mayes
HENDERSON Shellie Mayes, 89, died Thursday, March 18, 2004 at the Medco Center following a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Dec. 23, 1914, to the late Samuel Andrew Mayes and Pearlie Jane Joines Mayes, he was a farmer and a member of New Harmony Baptist Church for 67 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Mae Sweeney Mayes in 1987.
Survivors include a son, Virges Mayes of Elkton; three daughters, Belle Walker of Greenville, Margie Adams and Wanda Adams, both of Henderson; a sister, Dorothy McPherson of Lewisburg; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., March 20 at New Harmony Baptist Church in Todd County with the Rev. James Joines officiating. Burial followed in New Harmony Cemetery.
Mary Effie Harris Williams
ELKTON Mary Effie Harris Williams, 92, died Friday, March 19, 2004 at Wellington Parc Alzheimer’s Facility in Bowling Green after a long illness.
Born in Todd County, Feb. 3, 1912, to the late Jessie Danforth Harris and Hattie Lena Hightower Harris, she was a retired school teacher with 39 years of service with Todd County School System. She was a graduate of Western Kentucky University with a Masters degree and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Elkton. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Illie Williams.
Survivors include a niece, Brenda Harris Glover of Madisonville; and a nephew, Larry Wayne Harris of Russellville.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., March 21 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton. Burial followed in Stokes Chapel Cemetery.

Born in Todd County, Oct. 5, 1940, to the late Hollis and Lillie Laster Lear, he was a retired owner of Clifford Lear Trucking.
Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Lear; a son, Jeff Lear of Clifty; a daughter, Kristy Lear King of Clifty; and three grandsons.

Born in Ohio County, Nov. 10, 1914, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by a son, Delza Williams.

MADISONVILLE Vernus Eldora Crick, 71, died Monday, March 14, 2005 at her residence.
Born in Depoy Aug. 19, 1933, the daughter of the late Oliver Crick and Bertha Marie Shutt Crick, she was a homemaker and a member of Faith Tabernacle Church in Madisonville.
Survivors include two brothers, Larry Wayne Crick and J.C. Crick, both of Madisonville and several nieces and nephews.
