Jean Jackson Wiggins

MADISONVILLE ­ Jean Jackson Wiggins, 67, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 at the Regional Medical Center.
Born in Hopkins County Aug. 27, 1937, the daughter of the late Amos Coy Jackson and Lena May Clayton Jackson, she was a nurse’s aide at the Senior Citizens Nursing Home for 25 years and was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include her husband, Omer Lloyd Wiggins; a daughter, Theresa Jackson Armstrong of Madisonville; three sisters, Hazel Dawson and Mary Helen Todd, both of Madisonville and Norma Wiles of Central City; a brother, Lee Roy Jackson of Goodlettsville; a granddaughter and three great-grandsons.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Kingdom Hall with Mr. Flavis Spears officiating. Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville was in charge of the arrangements.

Carl Roy Whitmer

SACRAMENTO ­ Carl Roy Whitmer, 77, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 at the Regional Medical Center.
Born in Muhlenberg County July 3, 1927, he was a member of Brier Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Bremen, a farmer and was employed by L and N Railroad.
Survivors include his wife, Judy “Albin” Whitmer; four sons, Robert T. Whitmer of Sacramento, Michael Whitmer of Kansas, Carroll David Whitmer of Elizabethtown and Clifton Whitmer of Browder; two daughters, Carolyn Whitmer of Sacramento and Gail Dame of Nortonville; two sisters, Mary J. Miller of Sacramento and Anna Jewel Phillips of Valley Station, Ky.; a half-brother, Roy Lee Whitmer of New York; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 26 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with the Rev. J.W. Haire officiating. Burial followed in Brier Creek Cemetery in Bremen.

Hilda Lee Chapman

DUNDEE TOWNSHIP, KY ­ Hilda Lee Chapman, 60, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at her residence.
Born in Louisville Jan. 20, 1945, the daughter of James and Magdelina (nee Crowder) Ward, she was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Tommy Chapman; two sons, Scotty Chapman of Pleasant Prairie, Wis. and Gregory Chapman of East Dundee; her mother, Magdelina McClelland of Brazil, Ind.; two sisters, Sandra Smiley and Willa Jean Emery, both of Green Castle, Ind.; two brothers, Dwayne Ward and Larry Dale Ward, both of Valparaiso, Ind. and six grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. March 1 at the Chapman Family Cemetery in Todd County. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.

Elizabeth Earsela Burden Goodman

Elizabeth Earsela Burden Goodman, 73, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005 at her residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 13, 1931, the daughter of the late Les and Doris Burden, she was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Central City and was employed by G.E. and Marriott Inns. She was preceded in death by her brother, O.V. Burden.
Survivors include three sons, Brian Whitaker of Bremen, Steven L. Whitaker of Utica and Milton Goodman of Louisville; two daughters, Benita Cissell of Louisville and Mary Ann Gilbert of Oneida, Ky.; two sisters, Shirley Bishop and Charlotte Greene, both of Sacramento; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 28 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Rearden and the Rev. Steven Whitaker officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery in Bremen.

Mary Lucille Evitts

GREENVILLE ­ Mary Lucille Evitts, 91, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 at Maple Manor Nursing Center in Greenville.
Born in Muhlenberg County April 10, 1913, she was a member of Powderly United Methodist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Bill Evitts of Greenville; a brother, Charles Edwards of Powderly; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Feb. 26 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn Bard officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Powderly.

Ely Stanley

GRAHAM ­ Ely Stanley, 86, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County March 28, 1918, he was a retired sawmill worker and truck driver and a World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Groves Stanley; four sons, Daniel Stanley and Billy Thomas Stanley, both of Graham, Jimmy Leon Stanley of White Plains and James Stanley of Depoy; two brothers, Sam Stanley of New Cypress and Clyde Stanley of Greenville; 24 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. March 2 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Long officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Depoy. Visitation will be at 5 p.m. March 1.

Wanda Elaine Fulkerson Hawes

BREMEN ­ Wanda Elaine Fulkerson Hawes, 78, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Dec. 8, 1926, she was a homemaker and member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Bremen and served as treasurer for the Drakesboro #489 Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star for 27 years.
Survivors include her husband, Andre L. Hawes; two daughters, Brenda (Jim) Gormley of Belton and Kay (David) LeGrand of Greenville; three step-daughters, Mary Fields of Nelson Creek, Jo Ann Whitaker of Bremen and Vanessa Rule of Pembroke; a step-son, Andre L. Hawes II of Bremen; two brothers, Billy Goff of Central City and Glen Goff of Graham; two sisters, Lucille Rule of Nelson Creek and Patty Latham of Bowling Green; a grandson, Mike Gormley; a great-grandson, Cody Gormley; 13 step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. March 2 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Hogard and the Rev. David Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Bremen. Visitation will be at 5 p.m. March 1 at Tucker Funeral Home.

Bobby Mercer

Bobby Mercer of Chicago, formerly of Morehead, died 01/26/2006 at Lincoln Park Hospital in Chicago, IL. Mr. Mercer was born in Muhlenberg County 02/08/1935 and graduated from Muhlenberg Central High School in 1954 and moved to Chicago July 1956 where he remained and made his home. Mr. Mercer was a musician and retired as a superintendent of the Baking Industry and was a member of Woodson Baptist Church.
He is survived by his spouse; Sheila Mercer, Son; Robert, who also went by “Bobby”, Sisters; Joyce Mercer and Theresa (Charles) Parham Aunt; Bea (Vernie) Carter, Several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by Parents; Collins & Dene Mercer, Brother; Johnny Mercer, and Sister; Ellen Mercer.
Funeral services were held Monday January 30, 2006 at Tucker Funeral Home. Officiated by Rev. John Culbertson.

Thelma Finch

Thelma Finch, 79, formerly of Paducah and former resident of the Courtyard in Central City, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at Maple Manor Healthcare Center in Greenville.
Born in Dukedom, Tenn., Aug. 19, 1926, she was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Almus and Ollie Mae Cashon; her husband, Henry Finch, Jr.; two brothers, Edwin Earl and Joseph Cashon; and one sister, Jean Yates.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna Slaton of Madisonville; one son, Henry D. Finch of Brandywine, Md.; one sister, Margaret Burkett of Big Stone Gap, Va. and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 25 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Paducah with the Rev. Mary Lou Elrod Worth, Lay Pastor with the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy can be made to your local library.

Joyce Laverne Vincent Green

HENDERSON - Joyce Laverne Vincent Green, 65, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Nov. 10, 1940, she was an R.N. formerly employed by Muhlenberg Community Hospital and Evansville State Hospital. She was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Green; one sister, Venida Baker of Belton; one niece, Aimee Garrad and two nephews, Todd Baker and Vince Baker.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Feb. 24 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Sale officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Paul Travis Whittaker

POWDERLY – Paul Travis Whittaker, 15, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, March 1, 1990, he was a freshman at Muhlenberg North High School and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Brenda and Bryan Deering of Powderly; father and step-mother, Mark and Sabrina Whittaker of Moorman; two brothers, Jordan Michael Whittaker and Matthew Aaron Whittaker of Powderly; two step-brothers, Bryan Deering, Jr. of Indiana and Jonathan Stanley of Moorman; two step-sisters, Brittany Stanley of Moorman and Kimberly Deering of Ind.; one half-brother, Christopher Whittaker of Moorman, grandparents, Paul and Penny Majors of Powderly, Mary and Carl Smith of Venus, Fla. and Robert and Janice Whittaker of Tenn.; two great-grandmothers, Virginia Majors of Greenville and Marie Smith of Louisville.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Feb. 23 at Tucker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ted Everly officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Powderly.

Freddie D. Thomasson

ARCADIA, FL - Freddie D. Thomasson, 63, formerly of Greenville, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Fla.
Born in Utica, Feb. 15, 1943, he was a coal miner with Amax Coal Co., a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Second Baptist Church in Greenville.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Sue Thomasson; two sons, Richard Thomasson and Sean Thomasson, all of Booneville, Ind.; four grandchildren; mother, Maxine Thomasson Barker of Greenville; three brothers, Jerry Thomasson, Danny Joe Thomasson and Kenny Thomasson; one sister, Terri Crews and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 24 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Dr. Ray England officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Fama Jeanette Baldwin

Fama Jeanette Baldwin, 89, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Salem, Va. Nov. 24, 1916, she was a homemaker and a member of the Green River Chapel General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Nanabelle Craver; her husband, Horace Baldwin; one son, Ronald K. Wimbish; five brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include two sons, E. Curtis Wimbish of Miami, Fla. and Michael J. Wimbish of Reston, Va.; three daughters, Patricia G. Howell of Wellborn, Fla., Ruth Lile of Central City and Veronica L. Granville of Herndon, Va.; two sisters, Anna Cobb of Winston Salem, N.C., and Nancy Faith Murphy of Roanoke, Va.; 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. Feb. 27 at Tucker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jewell Martin officiating. Burial followed in Forest Grove Cemetery in Browder.

Tracy Lynn Cobb

GREENVILLE – Tracy Lynn Cobb, 4, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006 at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County Aug. 22, 2001, she was preceded in death by her aunt, Melissa Nichole Cobb, in 1985.
Survivors include her parents, Tony Lynn Cobb and Kimberly Dawn Felty Cobb of Greenville; two brothers, Aaron Trevor Cobb and Mathew Chase Cobb of Greenville; grandparents, Donnie and Phyllis Morehead Cobb of Greenville, Roy Lee Felty of Pensacola, Fla., and Rita Brown Felty of Central City; great-grandparents, Lois Morehead of Greenville and Janice Sartain of Central City.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 26 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Micky Rizzo officiating. Burial followed in the Yeargins Chapel Cemetery in Graham.

Ray Scott

CROFTON – Ray Scott, 75, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Nov. 1, 1930, he was a die setter at Speed Queen in Madisonville and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Hopkinsville. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Ray Scott.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Piper Scott; four daughters, Lauvernia Hunt of Greenville, Brenda Dexter, Phyllis Lynn Staggs and Wanda Moseley, all of Crofton; one sister, Shirley Wood of Central City; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Feb. 28 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben James officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Martha Jo Ellison

CLIFTON – Martha Jo Ellison, 68, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.
Born in Muhlenberg County June 2, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Goble Millard and Donnie May Cook Millard. She was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Ellison.
Survivors include her husband, Albert Ellison of Clifton; two sons, David Ellison of Savannah and Donnie Ellison of Hohenwald; one daughter, Barbara Ellison of Lynnville, Tenn.; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 27 at Young Funeral Home in Linden, Tenn. with the Randal Runions officiating. Burial followed in Harder Cemetery.

Helen Ruth Armour

POWDERLY – Helen Ruth Armour, 62, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County March 18, 1943, she was a homemaker and attended the New Life Church in Powderly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Armour.
Survivors include two sons, Jonathan Armour of Powderly and Jason Armour of Beech Creek; one daughter, Tina Lear of Powderly; one brother, Earl Riley, Jr., of Hammond; one sister, Barbara Heifner of Tell City, Ind.; three grandchildren and six step grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 26 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Rice and the Rev. Gene Garner officiating. Burial followed in Jagoe Cemetery.
