Mary Lois Fulkerson Schroader
GREENVILLE ­ Mary Lois Fulkerson Schroader, 98, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Ohio County, June 29, 1905, to the late Eligah Sylvester Fulkerson and Emily Delaware Pendley Fulkerson, she was the oldest member of the Riverside Baptist Church in Drakesboro. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved to quilt and was a loved neighbor. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Robert Dee Schroader in 1997 and her oldest son, Carl Glendon, at age 4.
Survivors include six daughters, June Webster and Mary Knight of Greenville, Wanda Smith of Nashville, Tenn., Jane Miller, Lillian Hamilton and Irene Herrington, all of Owensboro; three sons, Shermon Schroader and Mitchell Schroader, both of Greenville and Willard Schroader of Owensboro; three sister-in-laws, Marge Fulkerson, Mary Ruth Fulkerson and Ruth Fulkerson, all of Drakesboro; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Feb. 13 from Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Wright officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.

Helen Ruth Pointer Anderson

Helen Ruth Pointer Anderson, 77, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Nov. 23, 1926, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sons, David E. Nelson and James “Mike” Armour, both of Central City; a daughter, Susan Simmons of Bremen; two brothers, Walter and Bobby Pointer, both of Central City; two sisters, Patsy Groves of New Cypress and Sharon Williams of Graham; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Feb. 13 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Mary Katherine Brown

MYAKKA CITY, FLA. ­ Mary Katherine Brown, 89, formerly of Central City, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 at Doctor’s Hospital in Sarasota, Fla.
Born in Nashville, Tenn., Aug. 28, 1914, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin E. Brown.
Survivors include a daughter, Lois Flynn of Myakka City, Fla.; two sons, Robert Brown of Tampa, Fla. and William Brown of Pennsacola, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Feb. 13 at Mansion Memorial Park in Ellenton, Fla. Toale Brothers Funeral Home Bradenton Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Lois Virginia Creighton

GREENVILLE ­ Lois Virginia Creighton, 80, formerly of Graves County, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born to Oral and Rozzie Mason Overby, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Creighton; two brothers, Pug and Estel Overby; and a sister, Lona Mae Fruehauf.
Survivors include a son, Michael Creighton of Bremen.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Feb. 14 at Brown Funeral Home in Wingo, Ky. with the Rev. Glyn Copeland officiating. Burial followed in Mayfield Memory Gardens.

Jim Ben Bethel

GREENVILLE ­ Jim Ben Bethel, 67, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Jan. 12, 1937, he was a retired coal miner.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Sallee Bethel; a son, Tim Bethel of Greenville; a daughter, Lisa Bethel Winter of Greenville; two brothers, Ralph Bethel and Johnny Bethel, both of Greenville; a sister, Linda Bethel Threlkeld of Greenville; two grandchildren, Travis Bethel and Kevin Winter, both of Greenville; two nephews; three nieces; two great-nephews; and a great-niece.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Feb. 15 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Evitts and the Rev. Jeff Groves officiating. Burial followed in Nebo Cemetery in Greenville.

Rev. Edgar Ford Higgins

GREENVILLE ­ Rev. Edgar Ford Higgins, 87, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Todd County, Jan. 8, 1917, he was a General Baptist minister for many years. He was a maintenance worker retired from Todd Manufacturing in Elkton and a retired farmer. He served as a platoon sergeant in the Army during World War II at the battles of Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Naples-Foggia, Africa and Normandy.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sybil Lorell Winn Higgins; three sons, Ronnie Higgins and Kenny Higgins, both of Greenville, and Michael Higgins of Eminence, Mo.; a daughter, Joan Johnson of Hillsboro, Mo.; a sister, Beulah Martin of Fearsville, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Feb. 16 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Vance officiating. Burial followed in Greenbriar Schoolhouse Cemetery in Rosewood with military honors.

Christopher Eric Stinson

DUNMOR ­ Christopher Eric Stinson, 36, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004 at his residence.
Born in Logan County, Sept. 11, 1967, he was a machinist at TVA and a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.
Survivors include his parents, Ford and Judy (Dorris) Stinson of Dunmor; a brother, Martin Stinson of Dunmor; and grandmothers, Margaret Dorris of Dunmor and Violet Stinson of Greenville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Feb. 15 at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg with Tim Childs officiating. Burial followed in Gant Cemetery in Sharon Grove.

Selma Mae Edwards

ELKTON ­ Selma Mae Edwards, 92, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 at Spring Meadows Health Care Center in Clarksville, Tenn. of natural causes.
Born in Todd County, March 13, 1911, to the late John W. Dunn and Susie Groves Dunn, she was an AVON representative and the retired owner and operator of Suburban Dress Shop. She was the oldest charter member of the Allegre Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher for 35 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Corbett Edwards in 1972 and a daughter, Pamela Jean Edwards in 1987.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby Edwards of Franklin, Ky. and Roger Edwards of Clarksville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Feb. 18 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. L.G. Richardson and the Rev. J.R. Craig officiating. Burial will follow in McColpin Cemetery in Todd County. Visitation will be held after 9 a.m., Feb. 18.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Allegre Baptist Church Building Fund c/o Odell Law at 6125 Allegre Rd., Elkton, KY 42220.

Juanita Blanch Case Jackson
EVANSVILLE, IND. ­ Juanita Blanch Case Jackson, 93, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005 in the Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center in Evansville after a lengthy illness.
Born in Hopkins County Jan. 6, 1912, the daughter of the late George Case and Belle Rickard Case, she was a homemaker and housewife and was of the Pentecostal faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip A. (Phil) Jackson on Nov. 4, 2001.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris (Harlon) Jones of Evansville; two sons, Billy Ray Jackson and Phillip Wayne “Bud” (Mary) Jackson, both of Evansville; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 14 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Evitts and the Rev. B.A. Mercer officiating. Burial followed in Coleman Cemetery in Nebo.

Clinton Rois Matheny

SACRAMENTO ­ Clinton Rois Matheny, 26, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County March 23, 1978, the son of Ricky Matheny and Teresa Dunn, he was employed at Carhart in Madisonville and was a member of Church Street General Baptist Church in Bremen. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Edna Matheny.
Survivors include his wife, Suprina Wagnor Matheny; a step-son, Brandon Mackey of Sacramento; his father and step-mother, Ricky and Robin Matheny of Graham; his mother and step-father, Teresa and Glen Dunn of Greenville; a sister, Erica Matheny of Graham; two step-brothers, Anthony Dunn of Greenville and Glen Edward Dunn of Bremen; his grandparents, Ed Matheny of Graham and James and Ila Williams of Greenville and his great-grandmother, Lucille Williams of Greenville.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Feb. 14 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Greene officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery in Bremen.

Phyllis Ray Majors Bard

GRAHAM ­ Phyllis Ray Majors Bard, 60, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005 as the result of an automobile accident.
Born in Muhlenberg County Feb. 16, 1944, she was employed as a lab technician at Muhlenberg Community Hospital and was a member of Yeargins Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her mother, Mildred Majors of Graham; a sister, Rhonda (Burke) McClure of Graham and a niece, Rebecca McClure.
Funeral services and burial were private. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Master Sergeant Maurice O. Pittman

GREENVILLE ­ Master Sergeant Maurice O. Pittman, 90, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 at Maple Manor.
Born in Graham March 26, 1914, the son of the late Stephen Lovell Pittman and Katie Lee Oates Pittman, he was retired from the United States Marine Corps. He served in World War II and the Korean War. He had a great knowledge of American history and the political process. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and an unwavering supporter of the Democratic Party. He was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Heflin in 1998.
Survivors include a brother, Earle Pittman of Greenville; two sisters, Norma Gregory of Shelby Township, Mich. and Ann Nalley of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; four nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 13, 2005 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Rob Gwaltney officiating. Burial followed in Unity Cemetery in Graham.

Wilma J. Dukes Ebling

GREENVILLE ­ Wilma J. Dukes Ebling, 75, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005 in the Owensboro Medical Health System after a short illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 5, 1929, the daughter of the late Floyd Dukes and Pearline Knight Dukes, she was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church and a retired cook for Kountry Kitchen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Lee Ebling in 1991 and a son, Bruce Lee Ebling in 1992.
Survivors include her companion, Tom Phebus of Greenville; a daughter, Regina (Mark) Curry of Greenville; two brothers, Kenneth Dukes of Weir and Benjamin J. Dukes of Greenville and four grandchildren, Jason Curry, Christina Curry, Chad Ebling and B.J. Ebling.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 12 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene McGehee officiating. Burial followed in Cave Springs Cemetery in Greenville.

Donald Joseph Shemwell

ASHLAND, KY ­ Donald Joseph Shemwell, 63, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
Born in Todd County March 8, 1941, the son of the late Loys and Gladys Pauline Woodis Shemwell, he was a small business owner.
Survivors include his wife, Debra H. Shemwell; six sons, Donald J. Shemwell Jr. of Johnson City, Tenn., Charles E. Shemwell of Santa Clara, Calif., Jonathan T. Shemwell of Chicago, Ill., Stephen A. Curtis of Chicago, Ill., Anthony P. Curtis and Justin R. Curtis, both of Ashland; a daughter, Lalla Rook Shemwell Gallagher of McIntosh, Fla.; two sisters, Sherry Howard and Peggy Allen (formerly of Muhlenberg County), both of Owensboro and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 12 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. James Shemwell officiating. Burial followed in the Gants Cemetery in Sharon Grove, Ky.

Tom Pete Dunning

SOUTH CARROLLTON ­ Tom Pete Dunning, 64, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Muhlenberg County June 15, 1940, he was a logger and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include five brothers, Robert Dunning of South Carollton, Harlan Gale Dunning of Nelson Creek, Roger Dunning of Petersburg, Ind., Billy Dunning of Hartford, and Lindel Dunning of Beaver Dam; three sisters, Retha Cunningham and Carolyn Dunning, both of Central City and Teresa Embry of Bremen and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Feb. 10 at Eades Cemetery in Bremen with the Rev. T.H. Davis officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
