DRAKESBORO ­ Barbara Jo Hillard, 61, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005 in Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Jefferson County Jan. 26, 1944, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Hillard Wilson of Drakesboro; a brother, James Hayes of Louisville; a sister, Frizzie Carroll of Drakesboro and a granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Feb. 10 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Marks officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Bessie Dorindia Moore

LOUISVILLE ­ Bessie Dorindia Moore, 91, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005 at the Masonic Home.
Formerly of Muhlenberg County, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ransom Moore.
Survivors include her daughter, Betyjo Monroe; a sister, Bonnie Akers; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Feb. 9 at Arch L. Heady and Son, Okolona with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. A wake was held by niece Wanda Smith of Central City.

Margaret Henderson Willoughby

BOWLING GREEN ­ Margaret Henderson Willoughby, 81, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.
Born in Logan County Sept. 12, 1923, the daughter of the late Milton and Rayder Belle Henderson, she was a member of the Whitestone Quarry Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Pedigo in 1997 and a son, James Willoughby.
Survivors include four sons, John Willoughby, Kenneth Willoughby and Joseph Pedigo, all of Central City and Roger Willoughby of Bowling Green; two daughters, Martha Schrimsher and Linda Carol Burch, both of Bowling Green; a sister, Martha Violet of Shepardsville, Ky.; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at Broadway Chapel with Danny Mooneyhan and Michal Welch officiating. Burial followed in Bowling Green Gardens Cemetery on Lovers Lane.

Gloria L. Davis

HOPKINSVILLE ­ Gloria Lee Davis, 71, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Formerly of Muhlenberg County, she was born June 28, 1933, the daughter of Flora West and the late Evil West, she worked at Metcalfe Greenhouse for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Davis in 1981.
Survivors include her mother; three sons, Steve Davis and James Davis, both of Hopkinsville and Jeff Davis of Pointe Mugu, Calif.; a sister, Rebecca Joan Juckett of Hopkinsville; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Feb. 15 at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville with the Rev. Norman Cotton officiating. Burial followed at Macedonia Church Cemetery.

Rev. Ed Segers

NELSON CREEK ­ Ed Segers, 95, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Feb. 10, 1910, he was the oldest living person in Nelson Creek and the oldest and last one of his family to pass away. He was a retired coal miner and a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a devout member of the Nelson Pentecostal Church who lived what he preached. Mr. Segers enjoyed fishing and he was an avid trapper as well. He was a wonderful father who loved his family very much and they will miss him greatly. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, six brothers, a sister and his loving wife, Florence.
Survivors include his eight children, Anita Douglas of South Carrollton, Jimmie Ed Segers of Hammond, Ind., June and Gordon McRoy of South Carollton, John Daniel and Barbara Segers of Nelson Creek, Eva Jo and Tom King of Moorman, Kenny and Sissy Segers of Rockport, David Wayne and Becky Segers of Nelson Creek and Sandy and Richard Johnson of Moorman; 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 16 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Paul Uzzle, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Nelson Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 15 and after 8 a.m. Feb. 16.

America Elizabeth Comeaux

America Elizabeth “Meck” Comeaux, 90, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County Dec. 24 1914, the daughter of Sally (Peveler) and William H. Durall, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Pete Paxton in 1957 and her second husband, Murphy Comeaux in 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Jimmie Lou (Joe) Allen of Central City; a son, Eddie (Nancy) Paxton of Central City; two step-daughters, Laura (Randy) Mothersbaugh of Madisonville and Suzanne (Timmy) Fulkerson of Central City; two brothers, Thomas H. Durall of Graham and J.P. Durall of Luzerne; 10 grandchildren, Sarah Carroll, Cindy McIntosh, Dr. Joe Allen, Janet Allen, Becky Coombs, Jamie Paxton, Nicole Mothersbaugh, Ashton Mothersbaugh, Chad Anderson and Kristin Fulkerson; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 16 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. W.R. Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be at 5 p.m. Feb. 15. In leiu of flowers, make donations to First Baptist Church in Central City.

Elwood Crick “Woody”

Elwood Crick “Woody”, 67, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County July 8, 1938, he was a logger, a coal miner with Austin #4 Peabody Coal Company and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Buster and Rosie McIntosh Crick.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Alice Jones Crick; a son, Michael Crick of Central City; two daughters, Melisa (Ernest) Hunt of Drakesboro and Terisa (David) Downs of South Carrollton; three brothers, Bill (Diane) Crick of Hopkinsville, Noble (Clara) Crick of Greenville and L.D. Crick of Bremen; five sisters, Edna (Bonnie) Chandler, Dorothy (Hershel) Drake and Thelma (Milford) Brooks, all of Greenville, Minnie (J.C.) Gibson of Bremen and Donna (Jimmy) Vincent of Central City; six grandchildren, Steven Phillips, Jennifer Shemwell, Kelly Lindsey, Tyler Crick, Christian Crick and Anthony Crick; three great-grandchildren, Makenna, D.J. and Kord and two step-grandchildren, Iesha Arndell and Shania Brooks.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Feb. 11 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. J.W. Haire officiating. Burial followed in Wilcox Cemetery in Greenville.

Fred Sullivan, Jr.

NORTONVILLE – Fred Sullivan, Jr. died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006 at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville after a two-year struggle with Parkinson’s.
Fred was known for his beautiful blue eyes and white hair. He loved people and leaves a multitude of friends and extended family that will miss his quick smile and ready conversation. He loved his family and they knew it. He loved to travel and walk on the beach in Florida. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church in Nortonville and retired from Ziegler Coal Company in 1981. He was a proud UMWA underground miner. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Virginia, in 1988; his oldest grandchild, Mike Sullivan in 2002 and two sisters, Evelyn Brocovich and Agnes Simmers.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 15 years, Wanda Sullivan; a son, Ozzie (Pat) Sullivan of Luzerne; two stepsons, Dennis (Mary) Gomer and Tommy Gomer, all of Nortonville; three brothers, Harold (Dorothy) Sullivan of Greenville, James (Dorothy) Sullivan of Alton, Ill. and Dorris (Lucy) Sullivan of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sisters, Barbara Jo Sullivan of Luzerne, Ann (Harold) Pittman of Central City and Christine (Ellis) Thompson of Independence, Kan.; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Feb. 9 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Rutherford officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.

Bobby Mercer

CHICAGO, ILL. – Bobby Mercer, 71, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006 at Lincoln Park Hospital in Chicago.
Born in Muhlenberg County Feb. 8, 1935 he graduated from Muhlenberg Central High School in 1954 and moved to Chicago July 1956 where he remained and made his home. Mr. Mercer was a musician and retired as a superintendent of the Baking Industry. He was a member of Woodson Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Collins and Dene Mercer; a brother, Johnny Mercer and a sister, Ellen Mercer.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila Mercer; his son, Robert “Bobby” Mercer; two sisters, Joyce Mercer and Theresa (Charles) Parham; an aunt, Bea (Vernie) Carter; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services were held Jan. 30 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. John Culbertson officiating.

William Estil Geary

William Estil Geary, 81, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006 at his residence.
Born in Ohio County Feb. 12, 1924, he was retired from Peabody Coal Co. after 50 years as a miner and a member and deacon of Lighthouse Baptist Church. He served in the Army in World War II where he received the Bronze Star and he later served in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his grandson, William “Billy” Guy in 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Geary; a daughter, Sandra (Charlie) Guy of Powderly; a granddaughter, Cheryl (Michael) Pendley of Willisburg, Ky.; three great-grandchildren, William Hunter, Michaela Ann and Nathaniel Shane; two brother in laws, Robert T. Baxter of Central City and William E. Baxter of Bremen and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Feb. 10 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Everly officiating. Burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.

Ann Shirley Cundiff

BROWDER – Ann Shirley Cundiff, 70, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006 at her residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County Jan. 21, 1936, she was retired from GE in Owensboro and Sparks’ Nursing Home and was a member of Forest Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Elsie Fulcher.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Billy Cundiff; two daughters, Julie Grise of Drakesboro and Beth Cundiff of Browder; two grandchildren; two brothers, Barry Fulcher and Jerry Fulcher, both of Beechmont and two step-brothers, Charles Hunt of Tavares, Fla. and Glen Hunt of Zephyrhills, Fla.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 10 at Tucker’s Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Dukes officiating. Burial followed in Ebenezer Cemetery in Drakesboro.

Carmon Lee King

TYLER, TEXAS – Carmon Lee King, 75, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006 at Hospice of East Texas-Homeplace in Tyler, Texas.
Born in Ohio County April 27, 1930, he was a mechanic and land developer.
Survivors include his wife, Jean King of Illinois; three sons, Stanley King of Texas, Wade King of Illinois and Allan King of Tennessee; a daughter, Susan Speck of Arkansas; four brothers, Gene King, Leon Baize, Joe Baize and Ray Baize; a sister, Christine Widner and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 12 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. J.W. Haire officiating. Burial followed in Shaver’s Chapel Cemetery in Bremen.

Dallas Alton Fortney

Dallas Alton Fortney, 78, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County July 10, 1927, the son of the late Aubrey and Edna Fortney, he was retired from the U.S. Navy with 22 years of service. He was self-employed as a carpenter and a member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church in Central City.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Young Fortney; two sons, Tony Fortney and Mark Fortney, both of Central City; a daughter, Sandra Pendley of Central City; a brother, Edward Fortney of Central City; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Feb. 13 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Casebier and the Rev. Jim Brown officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Central City. Expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of donations to the Mt. Zion Cemetery Fund.

Mary Margrett Gossett

Mary Margrett Gossett, 98, died Feb. 11, 2006 at Belle Meade Nursing Home.
Born in Muhlenberg County Jan. 10, 1909, she was a homemaker and a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Powderly.
Survivors include two sons, Vince Leon Stewart of Louisville and James Thomas Stewart of Pineville, Ky. and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 13 at Fairmount Cemetery in Central City with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Wilma G. (Hill) Wells

EVANSVILLE, IND. – Wilma G. (Hill) Wells, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Home in Evansville.
Born in Greenville May 13, 1922, the daughter of the late Raymond and Elgie McClellan Hill, she was a 40-year member of Grace Baptist Church. Wilma graduated from Graham High School and attended Western Kentucky University as an education major. She was retired from Bernardin Bottle Cap Company after 25 years, where she worked in production. Wilma greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Harmon G. Wells, in 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly (Scott) Lyon of Denver, Colo.; two sons, Larry (Lois) Wells of LaGrange and Dannie (Debra) Wells of Evansville; a sister, Margie (E.L.) Newman of St. Louis, Mo.; three brothers, Kenneth Hill, Bill Hill, both of Greenville and Dennis (Sharon) Hill of Oakland City, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Chris Wells, Matt (Joanne) Wells, Stacy Wells-Babillis, Ryan (Jodi) Wells, Robbie Cutcliffe, Hattie Cutcliffe, Jeffrey Cutcliffe and Hunter Lyon and three great-grandchildren, Alexander Babillis, Kyle Wells and Emily Wells. Wilma is also survived by her long time companion Emil Schmaltz.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Feb. 14 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel in Evansville with the Rev. Dale Maddux officiating. Burial followed in Bivens Cemetery in Weir. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1510 West Franklin Street, Evansville, IN 47710.

Tressa Marie Bartes

HAUGEN, WIS. – Tressa Marie Bartes, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Rice Lake, Wis.
Born in Bremen Nov. 11, 1920, the daughter of the late Christopher and Alma Grundy Craig, she was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Earnestine; a son, Jeffrey; two grandchildren and a sister.
Survivors include her husband, William “Bud” Bartes; two daughters, Alma Jean Collins of Schaumburg, Ill. and Earlene Heatherly of Phil Campbell, Ala.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Jan. 3 at the Jarocki Funeral Chapel in Rice Lake, Wis. with the Rev. Donald Berry officiating. Burial followed in Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, Wis.

Pauline Nichols Nofsinger

GREENVILLE – Pauline Nichols Nofsinger, 89, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006 at Belle Meade Home in Greenville following a short illness.
Born in Louisville April 24, 1916, the daughter of the late Albert Nichols and Minnie Lee Richardson Nichols, she was a homemaker and housewife and a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville. She loved painting, needlepoint and playing bridge. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Lilburn Nofsinger in 1978 and a sister, Lucille Catlett.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine (Larry) Sparks of Greenville and Sue (John) Rees of Madison, Ind.; a son, Roger (Leigh) Nofsinger of Longwood, Fla.; seven grandsons, Nick (Suzanne) Sparks and Brad (Denise) Sparks, both of Greenville, Bruce (Julie) Nofsinger of Charlotte, N.C., Kevin (Shannon) Nofsinger, Chris (Kelly) Rees, Stuart (Sara) Nofsinger, all of Charleston, S.C. and Brennan Rees of New York, New York; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 14 at First Baptist Church in Greenville with Dr. Charles Midkiff and the Rev. Gary McAbee officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Christian Life Center, First Baptist Church, 145 South Main St., Greenville, KY 42345.
