EARLINGTON – Benny Durall, 57, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006.
Born in Muhlenberg County Nov. 4, 1948, the son of the late John Steve and Mattie Ellen Woodward Durall, he was retired from Charolais Coal Company, attended Earlington Assembly of God Church and was an army veteran. He was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Shawn Durall in 1981 and a nephew, David Hager.
Survivors include his wife Pat Clevenger Durall; a son, Jamie Johnston of Madisonville; three brothers, Clarence Durall of Lake Station, Ind., Billy Joe Durall of Centertown, Ky. and Junior Durall of Hanson; three sisters, Martha Gill of Browder, Alice Hager and Betty Bowles, both of Madisonville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Feb. 3 at the Assembly of God Church in Earlington with the Rev. Phil Sullivan officiating. Military graveside services and burial followed in Oddfellows Cemetery in Madisonville. Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Ada Clois Whitmer
SACRAMENTO – Ada Clois Whitmer, 84, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006 at Riverside Manor Nursing Center in Calhoun.
Born in Muhlenberg County June 1, 1921, she was retired from General Electric in Owensboro and a member of Sacramento Baptist Church. She is survived by 12 cousins.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Feb. 2 at Tucker Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Leslies Moody officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
Willadean “Billie” Wilkins
GREENVILLE – Willadean “Billie” Wilkins, 80, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006 at her residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County Jan. 11, 1936, she was a retired ward clerk from Muhlenberg Community Hospital and was a member of Beech Creek Pentecostal Mission Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Green of Greenville; two sisters, Margaret Wilson of Louisville and Elenore Garrett of Drakesboro; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. at Fairmount Cemetery in Central City with Bro. Steve McElvain officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Malcolm Roark West, Sr.
Malcolm Roark West, Sr., 85, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Born in Muhlenberg County Nov. 1, 1920, he was a factory plant manager and an Army veteran.
Survivors include two sons, Tommy West of Charlotte, N.C. and Malcolm West, Jr. of Central City; three daughters, Brenda Daminato of Florida, Sharon Duffy and Peggy Doucet, both of Illinois; a sister, Hilda Sharp of Central City; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 7 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Adcock officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Margie Evitts
POWDERLY – Margie Evitts, 80, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006 at her residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County Nov. 5, 1925, she was a homemaker and a member of Oak Hill Holiness Church in Nortonville.
Survivors include three sons, Billy Evitts of Drakesboro, Lonnie Evitts of Greenville and Robert Evitts of Luzerne; seven daughters, Ruby Tredway, Carolyn Duncan and Rebecca Wood, all of Central City, Lois Hope of Browder, Patsy Turnage of Gishton, Debbie Owens of Henderson and Tona Littlepage of Greenville; a brother, Jay Tinsley of Princeton, Ind.; two sisters, Pauline Carver of Beechmont and Edna Whitaker of Beech Creek; 44 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Ark of Safety Church in Beech Creek with the Rev. Glendell Hardison and Rev. Darrell Gates officiating. Burial followed in Ebenezer Cemetery in Drakesboro. Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Georgia Wyatt Ozment
MAYFIELD, KY – Georgia Wyatt Ozment, 89, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 at Green Acres Healthcare.
Formerly of Central City, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Mayfield and a retired bookkeeper for A&P Grocery and Eugene Campbell Foods. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ophelia McClain Wyatt; her husband, J.C. Ozment; a daughter, Janice Ozment Ashby; a brother, J.E. Wyatt and a sister, Deanie Anderson.
Survivors include her grandson, Greg Berkley; a great-grandson, Robert Michael Berkley and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 8 at Highland Park Cemetery with the Rev. David Whaley officiating. Byrn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Walter Lee Burden
LOUISVILLE – Walter Lee Burden, 83, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Louisville.
Born in Nelson, Ky., he retired after 33 years as a purchasing agent for Arco Aluminum. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Burden and a sister, Eula Reed.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi (Lewis) Burden; a sister, Nona Weber; several nieces and nephews and a great-nephew.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 8 at Owen Funeral Home in Louisville. Entombment will follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Feb. 7 and after 10 a.m. Feb. 8. at the funeral home.
Ima Pauline Mitchell
ELKTON – Ima Pauline Mitchell, 103, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006 at Hearthstone Place in Elkton of natural causes.
Born in Todd County Dec. 3, 1902, the daughter of the late Walter and Evelyn Kirkman Edwards, she was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church since Aug. 8, 1930. She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen B. Mitchell in 1982 and a son, James Edward Mitchell in 1990.
Survivors include a son, Howard Mitchell of Russellville; a daughter, Barbara Mitchell of Allegre; two sisters, Glodine Newman of Evansville and Christine Winders of Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 8 at Latham Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in the Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Feb. 7 at Latham Funeral Home.
Michael Wayne Dukes
DRAKESBORO - Michael Wayne Dukes, 43, of Drakesboro, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital Emergency Room after a sudden illness.
Born August 19, 1959 in Greenville, the son of Charlie Dukes and Helen Elizabeth Johnson Dukes, he was a farmer and a member of New Prospect Church in Powderly.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 27 years, Julie Ann Jones Dukes of Drakesboro; four brothers, Oscar Dukes of Central City, Charles Dukes of Indiana, Larry Dukes and Howard Dukes, both of Greenville; two sisters, Debra Scarbrough and Agnes Dukes, both of Greenville; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Danny Epley officiating. Burial followed in Emberry Cemetery in Clifty, Ky. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Beulah Mae Smith
DEPOY - Beulah Mae Smith, 80, of Depoy, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital Emergency Room.
Born April 11, 1922, the daughter of Otway Woodall and Ethel Vincent Woodall, she was a member of Richardson’s Chapel General Baptist Church and had worked for a short time as a clerk at a local restaurant.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, William Smith of Depoy; one daughter, Jean Everett of Nelson Creek; two sons, Leon Smith of Beechmont and Donald R. Smith of Greenville; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Catherine Waller of Bremen.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 2, 2003 at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with the Revs. T. H. Davis and Terry Chaney officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery in Depoy. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Reba A. Curtis
BEAVER DAM - Reba A. Curtis, 68, of Beaver Dam, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
A native of Ohio County, she worked at General Electric Co. for 20 years. She also worked for the Ohio County Messenger for 27 years, a newspaper owned by the Andy Anderson Corporation, which also owns the Leader-News. She was a member of McHenry Baptist Church.
She is survived by a brother, Willard Curtis of Louisville; a sister, Tressie Brown of Beaver Dam; four nephews, Ronnie Duncan of Clearwater, Fla., Neal Duncan of Louisville, Kevin Brown of Orlando, Fla. and Greg Brown of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three nieces, Romona Garr of Campbellsville, Serita Woods of Knoxville, Tenn. and Geleta Armstrong of Beaver Dam.

Jean Vickers
FANTON, MO - Jean Vickers, 75, of Fenton, Mo., died Monday, Feb.17, 2003, in St. Louis, Mo.
Born April 5, 1927 in Central City, the daughter of Virgil Edmond “Tubby” Greenwood and Lillie Gertrude Walker Greenwood, she was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Virgil Greenwood, Nellie Richardson, Eva Dell Harris and Randall Vickers.
She is survived by one daughter, Nell Howell of Fenton; and one grandchild, also of Fenton.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home in Arnold, Mo. with the Rev. Eugene Bowerman officiating. Burial followed in Shepherd Hills Cemetery. Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
David Wendell Crick
GREENVILLE - David Wendell Crick, 76, of Greenville, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Born July 20, 1926 in Muhlenberg County, he was a member of Lead Hill United Methodist Church in Weir and was a retired carpenter and farmer. He was a veteran, having served in World War II.
He is survived by one son, David R. (Brenda) Crick of Denver, N.C.; two daughters, Debbie (David) Hendrix of Owensboro and Melissa Street of Paducah; three grandchildren, Chari Lane Crick of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Libby Turner of Paducah and Tamara Williams of Owensboro; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Jamison of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Hillary Turner of Paducah and Baron Williams of Owensboro; and one sister, Louell Miller of Greenville.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 25, 6 8 p.m., at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., also at Tucker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Valeria Lucille Catlett
FRANKFORT, KY - Valeria Lucille Nichols (Nickie) Catlett, 78, of Frankfort, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at the Bradford Square Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
A native of Greenville, the daughter of the late Albert and Minnie Richardson Nichols, she was a registered nurse and a member of the South Frankfort Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Lite Catlett.
She is survived by one son, William N. Catlett of Frankfort; one daughter, Elizabeth Jane Holbrook of Naples, Fla.; one sister, Pauline Nofsinger of Greenville; two grandchildren; one nephew and two nieces.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 1, at Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel in Frankfort with the Rev. Mary S. Davis officiating. Burial followed in the family lot in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Woodford County. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Kenneth H. Latham
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FLA. - Kenneth H. Latham, 66, of New Smyrna Beach, formerly of Elkton, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at Ormond Beach, Fla.
Born Oct. 29, 1936 in Middletown, Ohio, the son of the late Milom and Fronia Brown Latham, he was a member of the Tabernacle Methodist Church and a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He was also a bridge builder and a member of the New Smyrna Beach Masonic Lodge, the Shrine Club and the Scottish Rite. He was an excellent carpenter, enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Latham; two sons, Kirby Hubert Latham of Mobile, Ala. and Kristopher Howard Latham of Duluth, Ga.; two sisters, Shirley Gustin of Hillsboro, Ohio and Barbara McAninch of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a granddaughter, Katelyn Latham.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 3, at Bellview Baptist Church with Bro. Tommy Wilhite officiating. Burial followed in Tabernacle Cemetery. Latham Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Joe N. Harper
SACRAMENTO - Joe N. Harper, 77, of Sacramento, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Born Jan. 16, 1926 in Muhlenberg County, he was a retired teamster truck driver and was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran, having served in the World War II in the U.S. Army. He served with Co A, 67th Armed Infantry BN, 13th Armed Division. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and bar-b-que.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hazel Pearl Harper; one son, Steve (Joy) Harper of Madisonville; two daughters, Barbara (Larry) Sharp of Morganfield and Karen (Eddie) Arnold of Calhoun; four grandsons, Kenneth, Philip, Matthew and Jarrod; two step-granddaughters, Leslie and Natalie; one step great-granddaughter, Olivia; four sisters, Ernestine Dossett of Hazelcrest, Ill., Martine Roper of Elberfield, Ind., Dorothy Boyle and Janie Sizemore, both of Evansville, Ind.; stepmother, Plinie Harper of Bremen; several half-brothers, half-sisters, stepbrothers and stepsisters.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 2, at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with the Revs. Billy Thompson and Leslie Moody officiating. Burial followed in Shavers Cemetery in Muhlenberg County. Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento was in charge of arrangements.
