DEPOY Clifford Lee Walker, 81, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2004 at Owensboro Mercy Health System following a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, May 25, 1922, to the late Shelby Lee Walker and Patie Blake Walker, he lived in the Vernal Grove Community near Greenville. He was a retired coal miner with over 20 years of service and a member of Vernal Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Walker; two sons, David and Douglas Walker; a granddaughter; and two brothers, Robert and Cloyd Walker.
Survivors include five daughters, Carrol Laster of Clifty, Joan McGehee, Judy Lear and Kathy Lee, all of Greenville, and Debra Morris of Sacramento; a son, Larry Walker of Sacramento; a sister, Ruthell Wimberly of Greenville; a brother, Shelby Walker, Jr. of Central City; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Feb. 1 from Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Fitzhugh and the Rev. Jerry Eades officiating. Burial followed in the Vernal Grove Cemetery in Depoy.
William D. “Billy” Sigers
CLOVERDALE, IND. William D. “Billy” Sigers, formerly of Owensboro, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004.
He was a talented musician and had been giving private guitar lessons in Indianapolis for the past five years. He traveled with the USO entertaining troops in Korea, Hawaii, Guam and Turkey, among others. He was a member of Parrish Avenue Baptist Church in Owensboro. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Marvin and Marion Williams of Central City and his paternal grandfather, J.W. Sigers of Martwick.
Survivors include his fiancé, Cammie Goldmann of Cloverdale, Ind.; parents, Jim and Sandra Sigers of Owensboro; a sister, Kristi Sigers of Owensboro; a daughter, Morgan Sigers of Owensboro; a son, Jared Sigers of Paducah; paternal grandmother, Virginia Sigers of Martwick; and three aunts, Peggy Williams, Suzanne Dillihay and Joyce Peercy.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Feb. 1 at Glenn Funeral Home. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Bobby G. Neal
POWDERLY Bobby G. Neal, 41, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Daviess County, Sept. 23, 1962, he was a laborer.
Survivors include his wife, Ronda Fleming Neal; two stepsons, Herman Wood and C.J. Wood, both of Cleaton; and two sisters, Kay Markwell of Central City and Margie Yursco of Evansville, Ind.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Feb. 2 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating.
Gerald Ray Lock
MADISONVILLE Gerald Ray Lock, 32, formerly of Greenville, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004 in Breckenridge County.
Born in Muhlenberg County, June 21, 1971, to Lavrene Ray Lock and the late Gerald Thomas Lock, he was a brick layer for Heimbrock in Louisville and a member of Woodland Baptist Church in Greenville.
Survivors include a son, Preston Tyler Lock of Central City; a daughter, Cierra Rae Lock of Central City; a brother, Jeff Lock of Greenville; two sisters, Sandy Browning of Greenville and Deanna Brown of Madisonville; three nieces; and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Feb. 4 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Adam Brown and the Rev. Larry Vincent officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be held after 8 a.m., Feb. 4 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City.
Robert H. Spears
Robert H. Spears, 81, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 at Owensboro Medical Health Systems after a short illness.
He was a retired electrician from TVA and a member of the IBEW Local 816. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Henrietta Lee Spears; two sons, Bobby (Sherry) Spears of Owensboro and Tommy (Marianne) Spears of Greenville; two daughters, Cheryl Spears of Central City and Marietta (Jesse Jr.) Combs of Bremen; three brothers, Kenneth (Helen) Spears and Randal (Emma) Spears, both of Evansville and Bill Spears of El Paso, Texas; three sisters, Doris (Jerry) Rugs of Warsaw, Ind., Betty (Carl) Keith of Evansville and Shirley Monroe of Chicago; two sisters-in-law, Faye (Ernie) Sprouls of DeMotte, Ind. and Ester Lee of Kershaw, S.C. two grandsons, Bart (Sarah) Spears of Georgetown and Robby Spears of Greenville; three granddaughters, Shelly (Greg) Fuller of Goodlettsville, Tenn. Dale Hinton Roberts
MACON, GA. Dale Hinton Roberts, 52, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005.
Born in Muhlenberg County Nov. 16, 1952, the son of Donald and Ada Roberts, he served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Roberts in 1995.
Survivors include his mother, Ada Roberts of Macon, Ga.; a sister, Elaine Roberts (Walt) Bish of Gray, Ga.; a brother, Donald H. (Connie) Roberts of Milledgeville, Ga. and a nephew, Dane Yoshida of Gray, Ga.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 5 at First Christian Church with the Rev. Joe Mann and the Rev. C.W. Duncan officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Charles William Dukes
GREENVILLE Charles William Dukes, 74, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Muhlenberg County July 27, 1930 to the late Charles Elvin and Mabel Mae Perry Dukes, he was a member of Elkton Road Church of Christ. He worked at various vocations during his lifetime. He was owner and operator of Central Motel in Central City when he retired in 2000. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice Earlene Dukes and a grandson, Jeffery Todd Dukes.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel M. Dukes; a son, Gregory Dukes of Mooresville, Ind.; two daughters, Karen R. Grisaak of Benicia, Calif. and Melissa K. Strange of Zionsville, Ind.; three step-sons, Alan Keating of Owensboro, Warren Keating of Louisville and John Keating of Dunmor; a step-daughter, Jackie Lewis of Corinth, Miss.; a brother, Perry L. Dukes of Powderly; a sister, Judith K. Smalling of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandsons and six great-grandchildren.

Albert Ray Knight
DRAKESBORO Albert Ray Knight, 64, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005 at Owensboro Medical Health System.
Born in Muhlenberg County April 24, 1940, he was an active member, trustee and Sunday school teacher at Union Chapel General Baptist Church in Drakesboro. After retiring from Peabody Coal Company, he owned and operated Knight and Sons Trucking Company until retiring in 1994.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Patricia Morris Knight; two daughters, Vicki R. (Ricky) Knight of Belton and Torey Dawn (William) Logsdon of Sacramento; two sons, Teddy Albert (Donna) Knight of Drakesboro and Delbert Leslie (Debbie) Knight of Bremen; a brother, Elbert “Buddy” Knight of Beech Creek and nine grandchildren, Jason Knight, Brandy (John) Lanier, Amber Knight, Natallya Knight, Natagan Knight, Jesse Knight, Carlee Knight, Jacob Piper and Jarred Logsdon.

Born in Muhlenberg County July 6, 1948, she was a homemaker and a member of Evangel Christian Life Center in Louisville.

Helen Wilcox Mansfield
GREENVILLE Helen Wilcox Mansfield, 92, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 6, 1912 to the late Clyde and Mayme Dukes Wilcox, she was a member of Sharon Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Mansfield in 1964 and two sisters, Lucy Miller and Virginia Flowers.
Survivors include her daughter, Wilodean (LeRoy) Marler of Griffith, Ind.; a sister, Flo Anderson of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Wilcox of Louisville; two grandchildren, Dan (Tricia) Wynn of Munster, Ind. and Paula (David) Barrick of Merrillville, Ind.; three great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; three nephews, Larry Miller, Gary Flowers and Charlie Burris; three nieces, Judy Burris, Martha Miller and Darlene Flowers and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Born in Christian County Dec. 19, 1941 to the late David Collie and Katie Lucille Craddock Barnes, she was a homemaker and housewife. She was a member and teacher at East Union Baptist Church in Graham. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sherrill Wrayburn Barnes and Sherman Rex Barnes.

CANNELTON, IND. Wm. Cleo Murphy, 82, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005 in Owensboro Medical Health System.
Born in Muhlenberg County Aug. 23, 1922 to the late Justice and Alice Crick Murphy, he was a WWII army veteran and retired from Martin Marietta in 1984. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Tell City.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Gladys L. Howard Murphy; a daughter, Vicky L. Lutgring of Tell City, Ind.; three brothers, W.J. of Hartford and Everett and Joe Murphy, both of Greenville; two sisters, Peggy Swan of Owensboro and Janice Spratt of Philpot and two grandchildren.

Dorothy May Mann, 89, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005 at Maple Manor Health Care in Greenville.
Born in Providence Dec. 4, 1915, she was a retired clerk from Ben Franklin and a member of the First Christian Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph G. Mann in 1971 and a granddaughter, Sarah Beth Jarvis in 1994.
Survivors include a son, Joe Mann of Council Grove, Kan.; a daughter, Frances Jarvis of Central City; a sister, Ada Roberts of Macon, Ga.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Born in Jefferson County, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Nicholas Nicholas in 1999.
Survivors include two sons, Madison Lee Nicholas of Owensboro and Nicholas S. Nicholas of New York, N.Y.; a daughter, Suzanne Nicholas of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Constance M. Phelps
Constance M. Phelps, 67, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Columbus, Ohio Aug. 17, 1937, she was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Major J. Phelps; four step-daughters, Brenda Phelps of Aurora, Colo., Tonya Austin of Beaver Dam, Tanya Whitney of Central City and Sybil Phelps of Gardena, Calif.; three step-sons, Terry Phelps and Timmy Phelps, both of Owensboro and Ty Phelps of Central City; a brother, Harold Mitchell of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Judy Ferguson and Betty Johnson, both of Columbus, Ohio; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Joseph Martin Broderick, Jr.
GREENVILLE - Joseph Martin Broderick, Jr., 88, of Greenville, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Belle Meade Nursing Home after a short illness. Born May 4, 1914 in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of Joseph Martin Broderick, Sr. and Sara Lamb Broderick. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Friendship Baptist Church. He was a retired carpenter and a veteran of World War II having served in the Merchant Marines. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sybil Lee Broderick of Greenville; two daughters, Kathy Winchester of New Jersey and Jo Ann Kenny of West Virginia; two stepdaughters, Donna Chumley of Indianapolis, Ind. and Lillian Claxton of Florida; one stepson, Mike Johnson of Hopkinsville; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandsons; one sister, Margaret Eller of Delaware; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 24, at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Billy Vincent officiating. Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery, Greenville.
