Carlos Lacy Durham

MADISONVILLE - Carlos Lacy Durham, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003,
at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born March 15, 1916, in Crofton, Ky., he was the son of the late Tom
Durham and Amy Lacy Durham. He retired from Peabody Coal Company/Vogue
Mine as a tipple operator. He was a member of the Park Ave. Baptist
Church in Madisonville. In addition to his parents, he was also
preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Ashmore Durham, and two brothers.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Middleton of
Madisonville; one sister, Shirley Ballard of Crofton, Ky.; two brothers, Herbert
Durham and Barrett Durham, both of Crofton; one grandchild; one
great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held, Saturday, Jan. 26, at Barnett-Strother
Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Hendricks officiating. Burial followed
in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Barnett-Strother Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.

Bernard Junior Bryant

GREENVILLE - Bernard Junior Bryant, 60, of Greenville, died Wednesday,
Jan. 22, 2003, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsvislle.
Born June 22, 1942 in Muhlenberg County, he was a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Weislo Bryant and his mother, Iva
Sigler of Madisonville.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 26, at Tucker Beechmont
Funeral Home. Burial followed in Rosewood Methodist Cemetery in Rosewood.
Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pamela Sue Rose

Pamela Sue Rose, 50, of Central City, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003,
at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born July 30, 1952 in Muhlenberg County, she was an LPN at Regional
Medical Center in Madisonville. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her husband, Gene T. “Sonny” Rose; two daughters,
Tara Peveler of Central City and Amy Capps of Sacramento; two stepsons,
Joey Rose of Tokyo, Japan and Jason Rose of Central City; five
grandchildren, Jamie Beth, Kara, Cameryn, Gage and Landen; three
brothers, Jimmy White of Greenville, Steve White and Ronald White, both
of Paducah; two sisters, Diane Hobgood of Central City and Donna White
of Vero Beach, Fla.; and her father, George White of Greenville.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 25, at Tucker Funeral Home
with the Rev. Allan Black officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill
Cemetery in Central City. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.

Raymond Edgar West, Sr.

BEAVER DAM - Raymond Edgar West, Sr., 79, of Beaver Dam, died Thursday
Jan. 23, 2003, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford.
Born March 3, 1923 in McCreary County, Ky., he was a retired coal
miner. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army and was of the
Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hollie and
Lexie West, his sister, Ludie Keith and two great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine Roberts West; three sons, Barry
West of Beaver Dam, Richard West of Rockport and Raymond West, Jr. of
Whitley City, Ky.; four daughters, Wilma Dean Hurt of Owensboro, Donna Jean
Hyden of Mason, Ohio, Sula Stephenson of Monticello, Ky. and Lois Ann
Perry of Whitley City; 35 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Pine Knot Funeral Home
in Pine Knot, Ky. with the Rev. David Troxell officiating. Burial
followed in Corder Cemetery in McCreary County. Tucker Funeral Home was
in charge of local arrangements.

Stanley Ervin Hines

Stanley Ervin Hines, 44, of Central City, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003,
at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born Nov. 13, 1958 in Muhlenberg County, he was a pipe fitter at TVA
and a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church in Drakesboro. He was a
veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Parker Hines; two sons, Christopher
Hines and Nickolas Hines, both of Central City; five brothers, Patrick
Hines of Lawrenceburg, Ky., Perry Hines of Indianapolis, Ind., Stephen
Hines of Madisonville, William Hines and Harold Hines, both of
Drakesboro; several nieces and nephews, aunts and cousins.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Tucker Funeral Home
with the Rev. Erskine Wade officiating. Burial followed in West End
Cemetery in Greenville. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.

Melvin Howard

GREENVILLE - Melvin Howard, 63, of Greenville, died Jan. 23, 2003, at
Regional Medical Center in Madisonville after a lengthy illness.
Born in Tyronza, Arkansas on May 25, 1939 to Walter Lacy and Marcell
Searatt Howard, he was retired from TVA Paradise Steam Plant as an
electrician. He was a member of the IBEW Local 816 Electrical Union for
23 years and was a member of Pond River Masonic Lodge #244 F & AM in
Greenville for 20 years, serving as president in 1991. He was a
veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years during the Vietnam
era.
He was a member and deacon of the Powderly Seventh Day Adventist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Howard, of Greenville; two
daughters, Roxann Breidenbach of Louisville and Beverly Stokes of Elkton; two
grandchildren; one brother, Leo Howard of Round Lake Beach, Ill.; one
sister, Kay Owens of Chicago, Ill. and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 26, at Powderly Seventh Day
Adventist Church with Pastor Gary Shepherd officiating. Burial followed
in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge
of arrangements.

Makala Nicole Arndell

SACRAMENTO - Makala Nicole Arndell, 3 months, of Sacramento, died
Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
She was born Oct. 21, 2002 in Muhlenberg County. She was preceded in
death by her paternal grandmother, Kathy Blake.
She is survived by her father, Edwin Arndell of Sacramento; her
mother, Jacklyn House of Sacramento; maternal grandfather, Jackie House of
Bremen; maternal grandparents, Earl and Joanna Pointer of Bremen;
paternal grandfather, Jimmy Arndell of Powderly; maternal
great-grandmother, Imogene House of Bremen; maternal great-grandfather,
Thomas O’Reilly of Beech Grove; paternal great-grandmother, Betty
Arndell of Powderly; paternal great-grandmother, Jacklyn Arndell of
Greenville.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 26, at Tucker Memorial Chapel
in Sacramento with the Rev. Wayne Rice officiating. Burial followed in
Old Bethel Cemetery in Muhlenberg County. Tucker Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.

Martha Mae Cobb

LOS ALAMOS, NEW MEXICO - Martha Mae Cobb, 84, of Los Alamos, New
Mexico, died Jan. 20, 2003 at Sombrillo Nursing Facility in Los Alamos.
Born July 28, 1918 in Butler County, she was the daughter of Sion Bass
Allen and Flora Mae Jernigan Allen. She was a long-time member of
Duvall’s Chapel Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband, Ural Cobb, on Oct. 26, 1989; two brothers, Arthur
Allen and Otis Allen; and two sisters, Nora Maxberry and Anna McDonald.
She is survived by two sisters, Edna Shamblin of Alabama and Ruth
McDonald of Greenville; two sons, Ray (Vicki) Cobb of Bonnerdale, Ark.
and Ronald Gene (Diann) Cobb of Peoria, Ariz.; one daughter, Martha Sue
(Danny) Doss of Los Alamos; seven grandchildren, David J. (Kelli) Cobb
of Houston, Texas, Becky L. (Brett) Ray of Hot Springs Village, Ark.,
Bethann (Charlie) Anderson of Boerne, Texas, Robin Raye (Michael)
Dolata of Prattville, Ala, Ronald Griffin (Carolyn) Cobb of Mesa, Ariz., Bret
Doss of Phoenix, Ariz. and Kirk Doss of Albuquerque, N.M.; nine
great-grandchildren, Sean Cobb, Bridgett Ray, Elizabeth Ray, Ian Tyler
Anderson, Reed Nelson Anderson, Nechelle Raye Dolata, Melina Raye
Dolata Cierra Raye Dolata and Zane Paige Cobb.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 28, 5 - 8 p.m., at Gary’s Funeral
Home in Greenville. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at
Duvall’s Chapel Church in the Nebo community with the Revs. Charles
Linhart and B. A. Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in Nebo
Cemetery. Gary’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annie “Louise” Shelton

GREENVILLE - Annie “Louise” Shelton, 74, of Greenville, died Monday,
Jan. 20, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born March 1, 1928 in Graham, she was the daughter of the late Zack
and Annie Robinson Johnson. She was an active member of the Wesley Chapel
A.M.E. Zion Church in Greenville where she served as a stewardess and
junior choir director. She taught 4-H for several years at the
Greenville Training School and held several offices with the P.T.A.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd R. Shelton, Sr., of Greenville;
two daughters, Jeanette Lewis of Greenville and Diann Hudson of Huber
Heights, Ohio; two sons, Floyd R. Shelton, Jr. of Madisonville and
Steve Shelton of Greenville; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Wesley Chapel
A.M.E. Zion Church with the Elder Dwayne Tutt officiating. Burial
followed in West End Cemetery. Mason and Sons Funeral Home in
Madisonville was in charge of arrangements.

LeRoy Felty

LeRoy Felty, 70, of Central City, died Jan. 25, 2003, at Maple Manor
Health Care Center in Greenville.
Born Sept. 25, 1932 in Muhlenberg County, he was retired from TVA as a
welder. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S.
Army.
He is survived by one son, Mike Tanner of Central City; one daughter,
Mary Lynn Felty of Rockford, Ill.; three grandchildren, Katie Wood,
Shawna Tanner and Kim Cobb; two brothers, Darrell Felty of Cincinnati,
Ohio and Roy Lee Felty of Florida; and three sisters, Betty Rider of
Florida, Margaret Devine of Evansville, Ind. and Loretta Garrett of
Central City.
Visitation is Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 9:30 a.m. at Tucker Funeral Home
in Central City. Funeral services will also be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at
Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. J. W. Haire officiating. Burial will
follow in Fairmont Cemetery in Central City. Tucker Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.

Helen Walker Craig

OWENSBORO - Helen Walker Craig, 84, of Owensboro, died Monday, Jan.
27, 2003, at Wellington Park in Owensboro.
Born in Graham, Ky., she was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Craig, on Aug. 25, 1986.
She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Susan Hawkins of Greenville and
Jane Stewart of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; and 3
great-grandchildren.
No formal visitation will be held. Graveside services will be held
Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 12 p.m., at Elmwood Cemetery in Owensboro. James
H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American
Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.

Rev. Claud Porter Hoover

DIXON, KY. - Rev. Claud Porter Hoover, 69, of Dixon, died Monday, Jan.
27, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in Henderson, Ky.
Born Jan. 18, 1934 in Muhlenberg County, he was a General Baptist
minister for 35 years, pastoring six different churches. He was
preceded in death by one brother, Henry Curtis Hoover.
He is survived by three sons, Carl Hoover of Henderson, Allen Hoover
of Owensboro and Matt Hoover of Dixon; two daughters, Vicki Cobb of Sebree
and Gloria Cerullo of Henderson; one brother, Carlisle Hoover of
Henderson; three sisters, Ruby Crick of Mortons Gap, Ky., Lovell
McClain and Betty Rigdon, both of Clay, Ky.; and his mother, Eva Goodman Hoover
of Dixon.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 29, 4 - 8 p.m. and Thursday, 8 a.m.
- noon, at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon. Funeral services will be
held Thursday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. at Gum Grove General Baptist Church in
Providence, Ky. with the Rev. Buddy Hix officiating. Burial will follow
in Townsend Cemetery in Dixon.
