GREENVILLE - Flossie Isabell Bryant, 89, of Greenville, died Monday,
Jan. 13, 2003, at Maple Manor Health Care Center following several
months of illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County on Oct. 28, 1913, she was the daughter of
Atlas McIntosh and Myrtle Duvall McIntosh. She was a member of
Greenbriar General Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Marvin Bryant of
Greenville; two daughters, Judy Buchanan of Greenville and Myrtle Gray
of Drakesboro; three sons, Rev. Delbert Bryant of Wadesville, Ind.,
David Bryant and Dalton Bryant, both of Greenville; eight
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Brooks of
Powderly; and one brother, J. Lee McIntosh of Greenville.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 16, at Gary’s Funeral Home
in Greenville with the Revs. J. W. Haire and Leamon Mefford officiating.
Burial followed in Greenbriar Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.
Marilyn Loyce Simmons
GREENVILLE - Marilyn Loyce Simmons, 54, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at
Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born July 2, 1948 in Evansville, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Simmons; two sons, Michael
David (Claudia) Simmons of Princeton and Robert Jesse (Monica) Simmons, Jr.
of Powderly; three daughters, Shannon (Rick) Moore of Beechmont, Jessica
(Steven) Wallace of Princeton, and Cherylonda (Jason) Buchanan of
Greenville; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother,
Kenneth Eaves of Murray; and two sisters, Brenda Joyce Robertson of
Evansville and Rosemary Holmes of Henderson.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 16, at Tucker Funeral Home
in Central City with the Rev. T. H. Davis officiating. Burial followed in
Jagoe Cemetery in Central City. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
Luther Clive Grayson
SPRINGFIELD, TENN. - Luther Clive Grayson, 82, of Springfield, Tenn.,
died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, in Springfield.
Born July 23, 1920 in Muhlenberg County, he was a coal miner and was
retired from P & M Mining. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having
served in World War II. He was preceded in death by two brothers,
Leland Grayson and Gordon Grayson and a stepgrandson, Leslie Goodwin.
He is survived by his wife, Wilmoth Ayers Grayson of Springfield; two
sons, Lucian R. (Diana) Grayson of Beech Creek and Randy Grayson of
Greenville; one stepson, Larry L. Goodwin of Antioch, Tenn.; two
stepdaughters, Diane G. (Larry) Poole and Sara R. (Mark) Redfern, both
of Cross Plains, Tenn.; four brothers, Neil (Thelma) Grayson and
Maurice (Zettie) Grayson, both of Russellville, Wayne (Imogene) Grayson of
Huntsville, Ky. and Herald (Betty) Grayson of Penrod; one sister, Nina
Pearl Schrull of Franklin, Ky.; five grandchildren, four
great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren and four
stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Tucker Beechmont
Funeral Home. Burial followed in Ebenezer. Tucker Funeral Home was in

Richard C. Morris
LEWISBURG - Richard C. Morris, 75, of Lewisburg, died Tuesday, Jan.
14, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born Sept. 20, 1927 in Muhlenberg County, he was a member of First
Baptist Church in Central City and was retired from Peabody Coal
Company.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; one daughter, Jackie McRoy of
Central City; one son, Rick Morris of Louisville; two stepdaughters,
Toby Luckett of Beechmont and Maria Cansler of Dawson Springs; one
stepson, Perry Byers of Owensboro; two grandchildren, Nikki and Rick;
five stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild, Jackson; one brother,
Bill Morris of Deland, Fla. and one sister, Albertine Bivens of Central
City.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 18, at Tucker Funeral Home
with the Rev. Jewell Martin officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill

DRAKESBORO - Mildred Arnold, 89, of Drakesboro, died Saturday, Jan.
18, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born April 3, 1913 in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker and a
member of Drakesboro Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Howard Arnold and an infant daughter, Maudie Arnold.
She is survived by one son, Gary Arnold of Drakesboro; one daughter,
Nancy Stewart of Drakesboro; granddaughter, Lynne Alvey of Owensboro;
three grandsons, Jeremy Arnold of Drakesboro, Jim Stewart of Louisville
and Tom Stewart of Bowling Green; two great-grandsons; five sisters,
Frances Hardison and Katherine Delong, both of Madisonville, Helen
Dalota of Dickinson, Texas, Pauline Brown of Valparaiso, Ind. and Nora
Arnold of Drakesboro.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Tucker Funeral Home
with the Rev. Johney Long officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill

Beatrice Mote
GILBERTSVILLE, KY - Beatrice Mote, 72, of Gilbertsville, died
Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo.
Born Dec. 25, 1924 in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sisters, Juanita Brown of Central City and
Hazle Lile of Evansville.
Graveside services and burial were held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Rose Hill
Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Brown officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was

Lurlean Smith
CLEATON - Lurlean Smith, 106, of Cleaton, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003
at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born Sept. 28, 1896 in Grayson County, she was a member of Cleaton
Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Stanley Williams of Madisonville,
Vernie Williams of Cleaton and Milton Meeks of Cincinnati, Ohio;13
great-grandchildren; and ten grandchildren, Kay Olson, Sue Huddleston,
Stanley H. Williams, Sharon Barnard, Shirley Latham, Gary Williams,
Bryan Williams, Lori Harvey, Tom Meeks and Susan Bullogh.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 5 p.m. at Tucker Funeral Home
in Central City. Funeral services will be Wednesday, also at Tucker
Funeral Home, at 2 p.m with the Rev. Gerald Jones officiating. Burial

Winnie Lee Moore Ray
SACRAMENTO - Winnie Lee Moore Ray, 94, of Sacramento, died Saturday,
Jan. 18, 2003 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born May 6, 1908 in McLean County, she was a homemaker and a member
of Poplar Grove Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed music and writing poetry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond (Jack) Ray and
daughter, Chrystal Cotton.
She is survived by one son, Jerry Ray of Sacramento; two daughters,
Pearline Timmons of Sacramento and Carolyn Embry of Bremen; 13
grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Poplar Grove
Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Danny Greene and Mike Rust
officiating. Burial followed in Poplar Grove Cemetery. Tucker Funeral

June Marie Croft
June Marie Croft, 62, of Central City, formerly of Louisville, died
Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at her residence.
Born Nov. 8, 1940 in Muhlenberg County, she was formerly employed at
General Electric in Louisville.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Croft; one son, Thomas E. Croft
of Owensboro; one daughter, Alice E. Liner of Louisville; two
grandchildren, Kelly and Stacy; and one brother, Edward Glenn Johnson
of Peoria, Ill.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 20, at Tucker Funeral Home in
Central City with the Rev. Carl Dugger officiating. Burial followed in

Juanita Rice Peveler
BREMEN - Juanita Rice Peveler, 79, of Bremen, died Friday, Jan. 17,
2003, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Born June 12, 1923 in Muhlenberg County, she was a member of Cedar
Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Goodson
Peveler in 1998.
She is survived by one son, Jerry Peveler of Central City; two
daughters, Glenda Harper of Greenville and Greta Shaver of Central
City; five grandchildren, Darren Peveler, Tammy Atherton, Mark Atherton,
Kelli Knight and Eric Harper; seven great-grandchildren, Logan, Mackenzie,
Lily, Hannah, Zach, Maddie and Meaghann; one brother, Stan Rice of
Madisonville and one sister, Judy Ball of Bremen.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Cedar Grove Baptist
Church with the Revs. Gerald Jones and Billy Vincent officiating.
Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Bremen. Tucker Funeral Home was in

Mitchell Lewis Terry, Sr.
NASHVILLE, TENN. - Mitchell Lewis Terry, Sr., 62, of Nashville,
formerly of Logan, W. Va., died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003.
Born Dec. 31, 1940 in Clothier, West Virginia, he was a U.S. Army
Vietnam Veteran with 20 years of service with the ranking of Sgt. 1st
Class and won numerous military commendations. He attained the ranking
of 33rd degree in the Masonic Order.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lantha Y. Terry; four sons,
Mitchell Lewis Terry, Jr. of Detroit, Mich., Kenneth N. (Tammie) Terry
of Cocoa, Fla., Darrell A. (Michelle) Terry of Nashville and Dyrall S.
(Sonya) Hardy of Nashville; godson, Clifford Prevo, Jr. of
Fayetteville, N.C.; his mother, Louise Speight of Pittsburgh, Pa.; three sisters,
Henrietta (Penny) Terry of Pittsburgh; Connie (Al) Stokes of
Greensboro, N.C., Jackie Bard of Drakesboro, and Charlene (David) Boyd of Cleaton;
one brother, Cornell Dean of Clarksburg, W. Va.; one uncle, Willie
(Shirlene) Patton of Madison, W. Va.; two aunts, Maxine (Rev. George)
Dean-George of Louisville and LaBrenda Dean of Ft. Washington, Md.;
seven grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 18, at St. Phillip
Missionary Baptist Church in Shamrock. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery in
Pecks Mills, W. Va. Pond Funeral Home in Logan, W. Va. was in charge of

Delbert Clifford Hardison
GREENVILLE - Delbert Clifford Hardison, 84, of Greenville, died
Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at his residence.
Born in Todd County on Sept. 22, 1918, the son of Timmons Hardison and
Ollie Bryant Hardison, he was retired from Illinois Central Railroad
Company after 26 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58
years, Eula Mae Hardison in 1989, son, J. T. Hardison in 1959 and
granddaughter, Patricia Ann Webster Newman.
He is survived by one daughter, Ollie Mae Webster of Bremen; two
grandchildren, Wanda Bates and Clifford Hardison, both of Fountaintown,
Ind.; four great-grandchildren, Dewayne Newman, Tim Newman, Amber
Hardison and Nikki Bates; one great-great-grandchild, Samantha Newman;
three sisters, Audrey Bueker of St. Louis, Mo., Pauline Wells of
Shelbyville, Ky.; Martha Pitts of Indian Mound, Tenn; one brother,
Robert Hardison of Mt. Washington, Ky. and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Gary’s Funeral
Home with the Rev. Joe Pharris officiating. Burial followed in Yeargins

Everett “Ed” Hightower
Everett “Ed” Hightower, 43, of Central City, died Jan. 16, 2003, in a
vehicle accident on the Western Kentucky Parkway.
A native of Muhlenberg County, he was a member of Ebenezer Baptist
Church and was employed by Benchmark Masonry of Bowling Green.
He is survived by a companion, Belinda Martin of Central City; three
sons, Evan Hightower, Quincey Ellis and Terrance Martin, all of Central
City; two brothers, George Hightower of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Joseph
Anthony Hightower, Jr. of Owensboro; six sisters, Alfreda Hightower of
Orange, Calif., Martha Jean Hightower of Chicago, Ill., Dorinda Harvey,
Vera Hampton and Arlene Hightower, all of Central City and Darlene
Thompson of Zion, Ill.; two aunts, Dorothy H. Bibbs of Greenville and
Lottie Parks of Indianapolis, Ind.; four grandchildren; and several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Ebenezer
Baptist Church in Central City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 22, also at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Burial will follow
in West End Cemetery in Greenville. Bibbs Funeral Home in Greenville is
in charge of arrangements.
Harold Ray Daugherty
Harold Ray Daugherty, 65, of Central City, died Saturday, Jan. 18,
2003, at his residence in Nelson Creek.
Born April 9, 1937 in Muhlenberg County, he was a member of Nelson
Creek Baptist Church. He was a truck driver and a farmer.
He is survived by two sons, William Daugherty of Evansville and
Raymond Daugherty of Nelson Creek; five daughters, Crystal Nannie of South
Carrollton, Leona Daugherty of Evansville, Louise Joines of Nelson
Creek, Ruth Ann Brewer of Greenville and Renee Daugherty of Central
City; and 12 grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 21, beginning at 6 p.m. at Tucker
Funeral Home in Central City. Funeral services will be held Wednesday,
Jan. 22, at 11 a.m., also at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie
Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow in Nelson Creek Cemetery.

Dorothy W. Grant
OCEAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Dorothy W. Grant, 69, of Wanamassa Section of
Ocean Township, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Jersey Shore Medical
Center in Neptune, New Jersey.
A Muhlenberg County native, she worked as a waitress in Asbury Park,
N.J. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Grant.
She is survived by four sons, Steve (Chris)Grant of Ocean, Robert
(Debbie) Grant of Port Monmouth, Jeffrey Grant and Michael (Debbie)
Grant, both of Ocean; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three
sisters, Jean Graham of Louisville, Doris Camplin and Betty Todd, both
of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Francioni, Taylor &
Lopez, Inc. Funeral Home in Neptune, N.J. Interment followed at

Martha Mae Allen Cobb
LOS ALAMOS, NEW MEXICO - Martha Mae Allen Cobb, 84, of Los Alamos,
formerly of Muhlenberg County, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, in the
Sombrillo Nursing Home in Los Alamos.
Born July 28, 1918 in Butler County, the daughter of Sion Bass Allen
and Flora Mae Jernigan Allen, she was a member of Duvall’s Chapel
Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ural
Cobb in 1989.
She is survived by one daughter, Martha Sue Doss, of Los Alamos; two
sons, Ray Cobb of Arkansas and Ron Cobb of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two
sisters, Ruth McDonald of Greenville and Edna Shamblin of Arab, Ala.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m. at Gary’s Funeral Home
in Greenville. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 29, at
Duvall’s Chapel General Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Nebo
