GREENVILLE - Bobby Joe Lyons, 72, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County April 6, 1932, to the late Edgar Jackson Lyons and Essie Faye Jessup Lyons, he retired in 1987 from Sinclair Underground Mines after 11 years. He was a member of U.M.W.A. and attended Luzerne Baptist Church. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the Army.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Edith Wright Lyons; a son, Phillip (Susan) Lyons of Greenville; a daughter, Lydia (Randy) Adams of Greenville; two brothers, Billy Lyons and David (Faye) Lyons, both of Greenville; four grandchildren, Emily Adams, Lucas Adams, Amanda Nelson and Jessica Vincent and one great-grandchild, Reece Penrod.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 21 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Wright and the Rev. Jerry Wright officiating. Burial followed in Greens Chapel Cemetery in Greenville.

James Robert Norris

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - James Robert Norris, 79, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005 in Bowling Green after a lengthy illness.
Born in Butler County Oct. 13, 1925, to the late Urey Norris and Beulah Embry Norris, he was a member of the Graham Missionary Baptist Church and a World War II veteran serving in the Navy. He taught at Ball State University, Indiana State University and Ivy Tech College and retired from Westinghouse as an executive supervisor after 25 years of service.
Survivors include a son, James Edward Norris of Fort Bragg, N.C.; a daughter, Linda Faye Norris Moore of Kincaid, Ill.; three sisters, Kathleen (Kathy) Norris Nicotera of Bowling Green, Opaleen (Opie) Norris Sparks and Corrine Norris Sparks, both of Greenville; a brother, Paul Norris of Owensboro; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and an aunt, Hazel Lee Embry of Owensboro.
Private services and burial were held at Unity Cemetery in Graham. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Anna Elizabeth Rickard

Anna Elizabeth Rickard, 83, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Nov. 2, 1921, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Central City and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Marvin “Red” Rickard in Jan. 1994.
Survivors include a son, Phillip “Red” (Wanda) Rickard of Central City; a sister, Beatrice Altmire of Central City; a grandson, Myron Rickard of Columbus, Ind. and a granddaughter, Stefanie Leigh (Greg) Rager of Central City.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Jan. 24 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Ben Luther officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Lee Cobb

MORTONS GAP - Shirley Lee Cobb, 66, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005 in the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Hopkins County May 1, 1938, she was a member of Depoy Holiness Church and a housewife.
Survivors include two sons, Wallace Wayne Cobb of White Plains and William Clarence Cobb of Central City; three daughters, Maryetta Stanley of Graham, Priscilla Mae Drake and Martina Groves, both of Drakesboro; three half brothers, Terry Littlepage of Madisonville, Michael Littlepage of White Plains and John Henry Matheny; three half sisters, Annette Foster of Mortons Gap, Donna Smith of Drakesboro and Lucy Sparks of Greenville; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 25 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Long officiating. Burial followed in Lee Hill Cemetery in Depoy.

Jimmy Weathers

ELKTON - Jimmy Weathers, 83, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005 at his residence following a long illness.
Born in Todd County Jan. 29, 1921 to the late Louie M. and Idella Scruggs Weathers, he was the pharmacist and owner of E.B Weathers and Sons Drug Store. He was a World War II US Navy veteran and a member of the Petrie Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Weathers; two sons, James M. Weathers Jr. and Harry Weathers, both of Elkton; two daughters, Mary Petrie Posey of Guthrie and Martha Youngwood of Waynesville, N.C.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 19 at Petrie Memorial Untied Methodist Church in Elkton with the Rev. Steven Neal and Dr. James O. Thurmond officiating. Burial followed in the Glenwood Cemetery. Latham Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Clyde Weldon Stewart

BREMEN - Clyde Weldon Stewart, 76, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005 in the Owensboro Mercy Health System after a short illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County June 20, 1928, to the late James Lee Stewart and Minerva Cash Stewart, he was a timber cutter and logger. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Midland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shelia Grace Beadnell Stewart in 2000, four brothers, Billy Stewart, Edward Stewart, James (Buddy) Stewart and Cleatus Stewart and one sister, Mary Helen Walker.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Carolyn Stewart Waters of Mandela Springs, Md.; a sister, Vernell Higgins of Bremen; two granddaughters, six great-grandchildren and a niece, Mary Czerwinski of Dunmor.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 19 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene McGehee officiating. Burial followed in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Dunmor

B.F. “Hook” Warner

OWENSBORO - B.F. “Hook” Warner, 81, formerly of Muhlenberg County, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 in Owensboro Medical Health System.
Born in Muhlenberg County July 16, 1923, he was a mechanic and of the Holiness Faith. He was a disabled World War II Army Veteran and a POW/MIA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Greathouse Warner in 1981; two stepsons, Thomas Earl Brooks in 1994 and Royce Ray Brooks in 1955 and a daughter, Pamela Faye Warner in 1956.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Tooley of Owensboro; a brother, Charles “Wook” Warner of Greenville; a sister, Dorothy Snyder of Owensboro; a stepsister, Nellie Slaton of Owensboro; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 19 at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim McGuire officiating. Burial followed in Macedonia Cemetery.

William Beasley Travis

GREENVILLE - William Beasley Travis, 67, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005 in Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Nov. 24, 1937, he was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a self-employed carpet installer. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Everett Travis; six sons, Damon Travis and Billy Travis, both of Nashville; Keith Beasley, Scott Beasley and Dyke Beasley, all of Wartburg, Tenn. and Nathan Beasley of Sunbright, Tenn.; three daughters, Brandi Stewart of Greenville, Gina Beasley and Annette Moody, both of Wartburg, Tenn.; a brother, the Rev. Paul Beasley of Sanders, Ariz.; a sister, Jeanette Norris of Bremen and 21 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Jan. 22 at Tucker Funeral Home with Bro. Keith Beasley officiating. Burial was at noon, Jan. 23 in New Hope Cemetery in Moorman.

Ronnie Stobaugh

GREENVILE - Ronnie Stobaugh, 58, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County July 8, 1946, he was a member of Nebo Baptist Church and a supervisor at Texas Gas. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Joe Stobaugh and a sister, Betty Bethel.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Stobaugh; a son, Jeff Stobaugh of Greenville; a daughter, Kami Stobaugh Payton of Graham; a step-daughter, Tiffany Smith of Drakesboro; a step-son, Rickie Gilliland of Central City; his mother, Carlen West of Greenville; three brothers, Mike Stobaugh of Nashville, Larry Stobaugh of Greenville and Roger Stobaugh of Sacramento; two grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 20 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Evitts officiating. Burial followed in Nebo Cemetery.

Christopher Ryan Dukes

SCHERRVILLE, IND. - Christopher Ryan Dukes, 26, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005 at St. Anthony Hospice in Crown Point, Ind.
Born in Lake County, Ind. Sept. 21, 1978, the son of Omer L. and Donna M. Dukes, he was a jeweler.
Survivors include his parents of Scherrville, Ind.; a sister, Michele Jewett of Gary, Ind. and two aunts, Jorine Vaught and Wanda “Honey” Harvey of Greenville.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Jan. 22 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Wright officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Powderly.

William Glenn Powell

FAIRVIEW - William Glenn Powell, 64, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005 in Hopkinsville.
Born in Todd County Oct. 24, 1940, the son of the late Virgil Powell and Goolie Mitchell Powell, he was a retired paint contractor and a member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georg Ann Powell in 2003.
Survivors include a son, Orville Dale Messer of Norman, Okla.; two daughters, Anna Gail Deason of Allegre and Gaynell Gamble of Hopkinsville; two brothers, James Earl Powell and Charles Leon Powell, both of Allegre; three sisters, Margaret Powell of Allegre, June Frances and Barbara Blake, both of Elkton; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 24 at Latham Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Noffsinger officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.

Joan Forgy Dukes

GREENVILLE - Joan Forgy Dukes, 73, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005 in Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Greenville Jan. 22, 1931, the daughter of Hayes Forgy and Verna Pauline Brown Forgy, she was a member of the Greenville Church of Christ and was a 1949 graduate of Greenville High School. She retired from SuperValu from the sales department and was active with the brownie scouts, cub scouts and band boosters.
Survivors include her husband, Charles A. Dukes; a daughter, Vickie McClenagham of Westerville, Ohio; three sons, Eddie Dukes and Roger Dukes, both of Greenville and Phillip Dukes of Beth Page, Tenn.; two sisters, Lydia Geibel of Greenville and Jan Rose Jones of South Haven, Miss.; a brother, John Forgy of Tregevant, Tenn. and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 24 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Steve Stovall, John Forgy and Kenneth Joines officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.

Jane G. Richey

BREMEN - Jane G. Richey, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005 in Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Muhlenberg County July 3, 1929, she was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Bremen.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Richey; two sons, Greg Richey of Bremen and Mike Richey of Laurenceburg, Ky. and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 26 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Abbott and the Rev. W.R. Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Bremen. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 25 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City.

Washington Columbus “W.C.” Oates

GREENVILLE ­ Washington Columbus “W.C.” Oates, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 in the Belle Meade Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, May 7, 1920, to the late Arthur Selly Oates and Eva Zima Johnson Oates, he retired in 1978 as foreman from Dupont Chemical Plant in Louisville after 36 years. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville and an avid turkey, bird and deer hunter.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ruth Wells Oates; a son, Beverly Wells “B.W.” (Pam) Oates of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; three grandchildren, Bryan Wayne Oates of Bexley, Ohio, Robert Matthew Oates of Columbus, Ohio, and Evie Brenneis of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and four great-grandchildren, Evan Oates, Thomas Oates, Lindsey Oates and Jeffrey Oates.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Jan. 17 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Dr. Ray England officiating. Burial followed in Oates Mausoleum Yeargins Chapel Cemetery in Graham.

Evert Ray Croft

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. ­ Evert Ray Croft, 67, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004.
Born in Muhlenberg County, June 18, 1936, he retired from G. M. Truck & Bus in 1994 after 31 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Masonic Lodge #714, Murat Shrine and the Indianapolis Scottish Rite.
Survivors include his wife, Iva Duncan Croft; his mother Ida Belle Croft; six sons, Tony Croft, Glen, Jimmy, Darrell, Larry Waldrup and Mark Ivey; four daughters, Pam Croft, Gaynell Cross, Marilyn Farley and Debbie Brown; a brother, Freeman Croft; a sister, Lucy Sullivan; 31 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Jan. 13 in Flanner & Buchanan Decatur Funeral Center. Burial followed in Westridge Cemetery.

Lester McElwain

BREMEN ­ Lester McElwain, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Todd County, April 12, 1916, he was a retired coal miner, a member of Powers Chapel General Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Wayne McElwain of Wheeling, W.Va and Jimmy McElwain of Dale, Ind.; three daughters, Eva Ingram of Belton, Judy Rager of Bremen and Ruby Griffin of Dunmor; a sister, Helen Doss of Madisonville; 21 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Jan. 17 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. J.W. Haire and the Rev. Timmy Camplin officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Powderly.
