Mrs. Mallory was born in Muhlenberg County on August 30, 1909. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Mallory was former owner and operator of Mallory’s Grocery in Penrod for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anderson Mallory.
Survivors include one brother, James Cox of Texas; three nephews; and five nieces.
Funeral services were heldMonday, April 29, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Beechmont with Reverend Jerry Winters officiating. Burial followed in Penrod Cemetery in Penrod.
Tony Dwayne Franklin
Drakesboro - Mr. Tony Dwayne Franklin, 38, of Drakesboro died Thursday, April 25, 2002 on the Cumberland Parkway in Barren County.
Mr. Franklinwas born in Hopkins County on June 8, 1963. He was a truck driver for Ryder in Bowling Green. He was a member of Richardson Chapel Church and was also an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Franklin; one son, Aaron Franklin of Drakesboro; his parents, Charles and Brenda Franklin of Central City; one sister, Ronda Sweatt of Warsaw; and his grandmothers, Dorothy Franklin and Mary Hobgood both of Central City.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 28, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend T.H. Davis officiating with Reverend Richard Day assisting. Burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.
Lydia Ruth Smith
Marianna, Florida - Ms. Lydia Ruth Smith, 71, of Marianna, Florida died Friday, April 26, 2002 at Jackson County Hospital in Marianna, Florida.
Ms. Smith was born in Owensboro on October 10, 1930. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Wakeland.
Survivors include one son, David A. Smith of Marianna, Florida; three daughters, Carolyn Jones of Marianna, Florida, Barbara Burden of Central City and Marilyn Vining of Emmett, Idaho; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald Mercer of Central City, Connie Mercer of Dunmor and Gerald Mercer of Dunmor; and one sister, Zalpha Rager of Central City.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 30, 2001 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Jewell Martin officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Henry Douglas Riggs
Dawson Springs - Mr. Henry Douglas Riggs, 84, of Dawson Springs diedSaturday, April 20, 2002 at Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton.
Mr. Riggs was born in Osley, Kentucky on January 30, 1918. He was a career and retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant serving 22 plus years in the service. While in the service of his country, he served in World War II and the Korean War. Wounded while in Korea, he received the Korean Service Metal, National Defense Service Metal and the United Nations Service Metal. He was also an expert marksman. As a surgical technician he served also in the VIP Ward in the Walter Reed Army Hospital. While there he was honored to serve among others in his ward, President Dwight Eisenhower and Mammie Eisenhower. During his civilian career, he worked 17 years at the Outwood Veterans Hospital in Dawson Springs as an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse). He was a member of the American Legion Post in Princeton and also was a member of the Al E. Orten Lodge of Dawson Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred (A.G.)Riggs and Mary Duessie Davis Riggs; three sisters, Erma Vada Riggs Hamby, Hazel Ruth Riggs Carter Gray and Aminell Riggs Morris; and three brothers, Carl Clifton Riggs, Euen Finis (Buster) Riggs and Alfred Ray Riggs.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Terzah “Terry” Adams Riggs of Dawson Springs; one daughter, Sharon Kaye Johnston of Madisonville; one sister, Estelle Barns of Princeton; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery in Dawson Springs. Full military honors will be provided by the 101st Airborne at Ft. Campbell and the members of the 101st Airborne will serve as pallbearers. A Masonic Service will also be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at 7 p.m. at Beshear Funeral Home.
Vadie Craft Bivin
Greenville - Ms. Vadie Craft Bivin, 93, of Greenville died Monday, April 15, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a short illness.
Ms. Bivin was born in Muhlenberg County on November 5, 1908. She was a member of the Greenville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four sisters, Zadie Walker of Nashville, Lucille Walker of Greenville, Pauline Wells of Greenville and Christine Lacefield of Drakesboro; one brother, Melvin Craft of Hopkinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 18, 2002 at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with Reverend Vernon Perdue officiating. Burial followed in the Cherry Grove Cemetery in Weir.
Joe K. Blakeley
Calhoun - Mr. Joe K. Blakeley, 68, of Calhoun died Monday, April 15, 2002 at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Mr. Blakeley was born in Central City and was a member of the Baptist Faith. He also enjoyed woodworking and playing cards with his friends.
Survivors include three sons, Wayne Blakeley of Livermore, Bill Blakeley of Sacramento and David Blakeley of Bowling Green; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Margaret Helen Schoberle of Texas.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 18, 2002 at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial followed in the Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.
Betty D. Villines
Central City - Mrs. Betty D. Villines, 74, of Central City died Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at her home in Central City.
Mrs. Villines was born in Jefferson County on February 18,1928. She was a retired secretary and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Villines and one son, Johnny Villines.
Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Davis and Shelly Bevier both of Central City;and four grandchildren, Nace Creager Jr. of Central City, Shelly Beth Creager of Santa Barbara, CA, Kacey Bevier of Bowling Green and John Patrick Bevier of Central City.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 19, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend J.W. Haire officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Joyce Lee Boyd
Central City - Mrs. Joyce Lee Boyd, 58, of Central Citydied Thursday, April 18, 2002 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Mrs. Boyd was born in Muhlenbergon July 21, 1943. She was the owner of Corner Beauty Shop and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Preceded in death by one son, Wayne Boyd.
Survivors include her husband, William E. Boyd of Central City; one son, Jeffery Lee Boyd of Central City; one daughter, Renee Boyd of Central City; one grandchild, Madison Boyd; one half sister, Joann Townsend of Warren, Michigan; two step-sisters, Mary Jane Barton of Central City and Midge Pendley of Powderly; and one step-brother, Bobby Higgs of Central City.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 20, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Joseph S. Cienciak
Sacramento - Mr. Joseph Steven Cienciak, 46, of Sacramento died Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Mr. Cienciak was born in Cook County, Illinois on January 2, 1956. He was an Operation Tech. at Kimberly Clark. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Providence and a veteran of the Army.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Phillips Cienciak of Sacramento; one daughter, Jessica Cienciak of Madisonville; and one sister, Colleen Barber of Michigan.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 21, 2002 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with Father Mike Powell officiating. Burial was followed in Briar Creek Cemetery in Bremen.
Thomas Poole
Sacramento - Mr. Thomas Poole, 98, of Sacramento, formerly of Island, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at the Riverside Manor Health Care Center in Calhoun.
Mr. Poole was born in McLean County and was a member of the Cypress Primitive Baptist Church in McLean County. He had retired from the State Highway Department in Calhoun. His first wife Mamie Lue Prindle Poole died June 17, 1960; and he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Clara Bell Dickens in 1991; and a son, Jessie Lee Poole.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Bibb Poole; two sons, Edward Poole of Utica and Omer J. Poole of Dearborn Heights, Michigan; four daughters, Nellie Wilkerson of Island, Evelyn Smith of Owensboro, Grace Bishop of Centertown and Glena Tucker of Greenville; 27 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and 47 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 20, 2002 at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel. Burial followed in the New Cypress Cemetery in McLean County.

Edith Myrl Green
Sacramento - Ms. Edith Myrl Green, 84, of Sacramento died Sunday, April 21, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Ms. Green was born in McLean County on November 1, 1917. She was a retired assembly line worker at G.E. in Owensboro. She was preceded in death by one son, Hugh Carroll Cessna in 1997.
Survivors include one son, Dennis Cessna of Sacramento; two daughters, Rhonda Byers of Bremen and Debbie Rust of Owensboro; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Garland Ray of Sacramento.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with Reverend Mike Rust officiating. Burial followed in Station Cemetery in McLean County.
Paul Ray Cobb
Madisonville - Mr. Paul Ray Cobb, 58, of Madisonville died Saturday, April 20, 2002 at his residence after a brief illness.
Mr. Cobb was born in Muhlenberg County on July 22, 1943 and was a retired iron worker for Swift Steel Company in Addison, Illinois. He was of the Baptist faith and was an Army Vietnam War Veteran. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Douglas Cobb on February 1, 2000.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Mildred Jean Walters Cobb of Madisonville; two sons, David Ray Cobb of Bremen and Paul Deon Cobb of Madisonville; two daughters, Shirley Ann Haymaker of Gallatin, TN and Tracey Elaine Gilbert of Tompkinsville, KY; two step-sons, Kenneth Ray Brown of Niagra, KY and Allan Wendle Brown of Indianapolis, IN; one step-daughter, Lisa Darlene Dotty of Evansville, IN; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four half-brothers, Jimmy Stanley of White Plains, James Stanley of Depoy, Billy Thomas Stanley of Graham and Daniel Stanley of Graham.

William H. Walker
Hanover, Indiana - Mr. William H. Walker, 78, of Hanover, Indiana died Saturday, April 20, 2002 at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana.
Mr. Walker was born in Central City on February 15, 1924. He was a retired Millwright worker as a Caster for U.S. Steel in Cary, Indiana for 34 years. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelly and Goldie Scott Walker; two infant daughters; one infant son; two sisters, Helen Oglesby and Loraine Chaney; and one half-brother, John Thomas Oliver.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Mae (Hendrix) Walker of Hanover, IN; two sons, James Donald Walker of Hanover, IN and William Russell Walker of Hobart, IN; two sisters, Ethel Robertson of Central City and Corrie Hendricks of Hanover, IN; and one half-brother, Harvey Oliver Jr. of Hanover, IN; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 22, 2002 at Vail-Holt Funeral Home Hanover Chapel in Hanover, Indiana with Brother Mike LaFountain officiating. Burial followed in New Prospect Cemetery.
Rachel Drue Malone
Henderson - Mrs. Rachel Drue Newman Malone, 81, of Henderson died Wednesday, April 16, 2002 at the Methodist Hospital in Henderson.
Mrs. Malone was born in Muhlenberg County on April 26, 1920. She was of the Methodist faith and was a homemaker. She loved to garden and was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton D. Malone in 1980.
Survivors include one daughter, Drue Gentry of Henderson; three grandchildren, Leesa Russell of Poole, Terrea Belt of Henderson and Rob Chaney of Dixon; two great-grandchildren, Derek Belt of Owensboro and Dylan Sullivan of Henderson; three brothers, Yost Newman of Beech Creek, E.L. Newman of St. Louis, MO. and Bobby Newman of Hammond, IN.; and one sister, Thelma Hendrix of Hammond, IN.

William Glendal Wells
Greenville - Mr. William Glendal Wells, 69, of Greenville died Thursday, April 18, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mr. Wells was born in Christian County on July 19, 1932. He was a member of The Lead Hill United Methodist Church. He was a retired coal miner and had worked for the Peabody Coal Company for 25 years and was a member of Pond River Lodge #244 F&A.M. and Madeline Chapter Easter Star.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Lola Wells of Greenville; one daughter, Glenda Kay Wells of Greenville; two sons, Lynn Wells and Chris Wells, both of Greenville; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Beatrice Edwards of Ft. Myers, FL.; one brother, Ray Wells of Ocala, FL.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 20, 2002 at Lead Hill United Methodist Church with Reverend Don Gabbard officiating. Burial followed in the Lone Star Cemetery.
Mina M. Hardin
Central City - Mrs. Mina M. Hardin, 78, of Central City died Saturday, April 20, 2002 at her home in Central City.
Mrs. Hardin was born in Luxora, Arkansas on June 29, 1923. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith. She was preceded in death by a son, David Hardin.
Survivors include two sons, Jessie Frank Beckman of Greenville and Darrel Hardin of Chicago; three daughters, Betty Hauslein of Central City, Donna McElvain of Central City and Carolyn Hardin of Omaha, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Omer Patterson of Bolivor, TN; several nieces and nephews; and former husband, Ray Dean Hardin.

Robie Harper, Jr.
Greenville - Mr. Robie Harper, Jr., 64, of Greenville died Sunday, April 21, 2002 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Mr. Harper was born in Muhlenberg County. He was a retired school teacher and basketball coach- at Drakesboro High School. He coached for 27 years. After the consolidation of the school systems he also taught at Muhlenberg South High School and also coached the boys’ golf team.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Peveler Harper of Greenville; one son, Eric Harper of Greenville; three brothers, Dave Harper of Penrod, Jim Harper of Beechmont and Charles Harper of Winter Park, Florida; and three sisters, Betty Hatcher, Jewell Mallorey and Marie McCauley, all three of Greenville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at 1 p.m. at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Gerald Jones officiating and Reverend Billy Vincent assisting. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Muhlenberg County.

John "J.D." Webb
Greenville - Mr. John “J.D.” Webb, 86, of Greenville died Saturday, April 13, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mr. Webb was born in Christian County on June 26, 1915. He was a County Court Clerk for 16 years at the Muhlenberg County Government. He was a member of Elkton Road Church of Christ in Greenville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cennia Marie Webb, his brother, Carl Webb and granddaughter, Darlene (Darby) Perry.
Survivors include three daughters, Alice Hart of Owensboro, Virginia Favors of South Point, Ohio and Joyce Thompson of Greenville; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bobby Webb of Greenville and Otis Webb of Denton, Texas; and two sisters, Annett Gary of Bremen and Betty Sears of Evansville.

Gola Flatt
Greenville - Mrs. Gola Flatt, 81, of Greenville died Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at her residence in Greenville.
Mrs. Flatt was born in Muhlenberg County on April 28, 1920 and was a member of the Bards Hill General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Rowena French and Judy Phipps, four brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Glendal Flatt of Greenville; one son, Jerry Williams of Greenville; three daughters, Katie Williams and Diana Noe both of Greenville and Wilma Groves of Beaver Dam; 10 grandchildren, Tisa Webster, Bradley Williams, Karen Gill, John Noe, Laura Sandifor, Kim Fleming, Ben Williams, Brian Noe, Charles French III and Joshua Noe; 12 great-grandchildren, Kasey, Ton, Savannah, Johnathon, Karen, Lauren, Mallery, Madison, Jarrod, Kennedy, Decklan and Hannah; and one brother, Jay Williams of Dawson Springs.
