GREENVILLE Felix Colo, 79, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004 at his home.
Born in Huntsville, Mo., May 12, 1924, to the late Felix and Carrie Colo, he married Ramonette Lewis Aug. 22, 1947. He was a U.S. Army Air Force pilot during World War II and a member of the Greenville United Methodist Church where he served on the board of trustees. He was a 50-year member of the Strangers Rest Lodge #240 in Booneville, Ind. and was awarded his 33rd Degree in Scottish Rite in the Valley of Evansville. He was also a member of the Evansville York Rite and the Hadi Temple. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #61 in Greenville and a Kentucky Colonel. He retired from Peabody Coal Company in 1986 after 44 years of service. He was preceded in death by three sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ramonette Colo; three daughters, Cheryl (Steve) Ledbetter of St. Charles, Ill., Patricia (James) Braun of Aurora, Ill. and Susan (Mike) Anderson of Sullivan, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Jan. 20 from Greenville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vernon Perdue officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Greenville United Methodist Church or the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Wallis M. Guynn
SACRAMENTO Dr. Wallis M. “Mike” Guynn, 59, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Jan. 15, 1945, to the late Walter M. and Adele Guynn, he was of the Baptist faith. He was a 1963 Muhlenberg Central High School graduate, a 1967 Murray State University graduate and a 1976 University of Louisville School of Dentistry graduate. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving as an aero-medical specialist from 1967-1972. He practiced dentistry in Sacramento for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Judy Hamilton Guynn; two sons, Matthew Guynn of Auburn, Ala. and Patrick Guynn of Sacramento; a sister, Paulette Logsdon of Paducah; two half sisters, June Rutledge and Laverne Withrow, both of Central City; two half brothers, Harold Guynn of Lakeland, Fla. and Charles Guynn of Arkansas; an uncle, Charles Bryant of Sacramento; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Jan. 20 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento. Burial followed in Poplar Grove Cemetery in McLean County with full military rites provided by McLean County V.F.W. Post #5415.

Cliffie Lee Nelson Kyle
BREMEN Cliffie Lee Nelson Kyle, 96, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born in Ohio County, Oct. 16, 1907, she was a homemaker and a member of Neals Chapel General Baptist Church in Bremen. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Nelson; her second husband, Willie Kyle; three sons, Vernon Lee DeArmond, Walton Nelson, and Raymond Kenneth Nelson; and two daughters, Martha J. Nelson and Margaret J. Nelson.
Survivors include a son, Carrol A. Nelson of Central City; a stepson, James Kyle of Bremen; two stepdaughters, Joyce Allen of Drakesboro and Faye Johnson of Island; a brother, Buel Nelson of Murray; a sister, Pearl Gibson of Madisonville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several great great-grandchildren; and several step grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Jan. 20 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Bremen.

Isabell Clarice Beadnell
HENDERSON Isabell Clarice Beadnell, 75, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003 at Colonial Terrace Rest Home in Henderson following a short illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County to the late Homer and James Cash, she was preceded in death by her husband, William O. Beadnell; four brothers, O.B. Moore, Garnet Moore, Arnold Cash, and William Ray Russ; and three sisters, Geneva Woods, Winnie Matheney and Minerva Stewart.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Burial was held at Mount Moriah Cemetery.
Dortha Nell Galloway
SACRAMENTO – Dortha Nell Galloway, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at her son’s residence in Madisonville.
Born in Midland March 11, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Lorene Jones. She was a retired cook from Sacramento Elementary School and was custodian at Sacramento Baptist Church for many years where she was a member since 1957. She graduated from Bremen High School in 1947. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. Galloway in 1999; a son, David Galloway; a grandson, Christopher Sasser; a great-grandson and a sister, Stella Mae Hope.
Survivors include two sons, Steven Galloway of Madisonville and Kevin Galloway of Sacramento; a daughter, Dawn Sasser of Slaughters; a sister, Anna Dwire of Bremen; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 17 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with the Rev. Harold Butler officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery in Bremen. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Sacramento Baptist Church or Green River Hospice.
Melva Christine Welborn
GUNTERSVILLE, ALA. – Melva Christine Welborn, 75, formerly of Central City, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Ala.
Born in Caldwell County March 22, 1930, she was the daughter of Ollie and Nina Robertson Cummins. She was formerly a member of Green River Chapel Baptist Church and her husband was formerly employed by Amoco Oil in Central City. She was preceded in death by a sister, Auda Mae Farmer.
Survivors include her husband, James Welborn; two daughters, Pamela Roach of Columbus, Ohio and Patricia Hill of Greenville; a son, Darren Welborn of Arab, Ala.; five grandchildren, Joshua Roach, Jeremy Roach, Crystal Hill, Phillip Hill and D.J. Welborn; and one great grandchild, Morgan Roach.
Funeral services were held Dec. 30 in Guntersville, Ala. and Dec. 31 in Madisonville. Burial followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville.
Louvenia “Venie” Mae Reynolds
SACRAMENTO – Louvenia “Venie” Mae Reynolds, 95, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006 at the Senior Citizens Nursing Center in Madisonville.
Born in Muhlenberg County March 26, 1910, she was a homemaker and a member of Tower’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Reynolds and a son, Marvin Reynolds.
Survivors include two sons, James Reynolds of Beech Grove and David Reynolds of Sacramento; five daughters, Maxine Williams of Detroit, Mich., Lildia Martin of Cadiz, Jonnie Vee Brown of Owensboro, Carolyn Erwin of Nashville, Tenn. and Rita Rickard of Madisonville; a brother, Robert Coffman of Madisonville; 19 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 12 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial followed in the Sacramento Methodist Cemetery in Sacramento.
Bessie Ezell Hamilton
OWENSBORO – Bessie Ezell Hamilton, 95, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006 at Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Owensboro.
Born in Ohio County Feb. 15, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Ollie and Thomas Ann Simmons Ezell. She had been employed by Glenmore Distillery and was a member of Parrish Avenue Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Hamilton on Feb. 2, 1979; two brothers, Herman Ezell and Wesley Ezell; two sisters, Florence Dossett and Beatrice Bellamy; and two nephews, Herman Lyndal Ezell and Joseph Alsip.
Survivors include four nieces, Betty Bellamy Paulin and Shirley Davis, both of Owensboro, Lois Reno of Calif. and Lou Emma Ezell of Greenville; a nephew, Robert Alsip of Owensboro; and several great nieces and nephews.

John Thomas Merrell
WHITE PLAINS – John Thomas Merrell, 67, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006 at his residence.
Born in Hopkins County Dec. 12, 1938, he was the son of the late James Poke Merrell and Geneva Duncan Snodgrass. He was a truck driver for Sextex coal mines where he retired in 1983 after 14 years. He was a long time member of Little Mission Church in White Plains.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Ola Jean Williams Merrell; three daughters, Jonnetta McNary and Lorrie Fuhriman, both of Evansville and Priscilla Brown of Madisonville; a son, Brad Merrell of White Plains; four brothers, the Rev. Paul W. Cundiff and Bobbie Snodgrass Jr., both of Evansville , James Merrell of Madisonville and Robert Rickard of Hanson; five sisters, Wanda Merrell, Barbara Sue White and Anna Rickard, all of Madisonville, Phyllis Lloyd of Texas and Cathy Sue Rickard of Henderson; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Charles E. “Big Charles” Robinson
GREENVILLE – Charles E. “Big Charles” Robinson, 71, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006 at his residence.
Born in Greenville March 21, 1934, he was the son of Edith Gregory of Greenville and the late Howard Robinson. He was a retired coal miner from Peabody Coal Company.
Survivors include his wife, Ernestine McCown Robinson; a son, Tony Reynolds of Baltimore, Md.; and a grandchild, Charlotte Reynolds.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 14 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Hocker, the Rev. Otis Cunningham and the Rev. Terrance Minor officiating. Burial followed in West End Cemetery in Greenville.
James Earl English, Jr.
DRAKESBORO – James Earl English, Jr., 62, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006 in the Owensboro Medical Health System.
Born in Muhlenberg County June 27, 1943, he was a coal miner and of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy D. English and Harold W. English, both of Drakesboro; four daughters, Angela D. Baize and Reba G. Avery, both of Central City, Teresa A. Tingle of Owensboro and Tabitha D. Wells of Drakesboro; two brothers, Carol English of Dunmor and Wendell English of Beech Creek; two sisters, Janetta Cottrell of Belton and Junie Haskins of Beech Creek; 11 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 13 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial followed in the Forest Grove Cemetery in Browder.
James Kenneth Durham
LOUISVILLE – James Kenneth Durham, 84, formerly of Central City, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006.
He was a retired inspector at the old International Harvestor, an Army Air Corps veteran and a member of Highview Baptist Church in Louisville. He was preceded in death by a son, James K. Durham, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Ensminger Durham; two sons, Alan D. Durham and Charles T. Durham; a sister, Margaret Jarvis; a half-sister, Mary Stewart of Central City; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Jan. 13 at Fern Creek Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery, Todd’s Point, in Shelby County, Ky.
Martha Lou Lear Betts
Martha Lou Lear Betts, 72, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006 at her residence in Central City.
Born in Muhlenberg County July 6, 1933, she was the daughter of the late William and Rosa Lear and was employed by Brachs Candies in Chicago, Ill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Betts and a sister, Margie Fligelman.
Survivors include two brothers, James Lear of Chicago, Ill. and Bennie Lear of Drakesboro; two sisters, Estelle Lear and Betty Jenkins, both of Drakesboro; three nieces; two nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Jan. 14 at Highway Cemetery in Drakesboro. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Herman Ellsworth Patterson, Jr.
SACRAMENTO – Herman Ellsworth Patterson, Jr., 80, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in McLean County October 2, 1925, he was the son of the late Herman Ellsworth Sr. and Lorene Patterson. He was a retired farmer and businessman and a member of Sacramento United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leon Patterson and Carl Patterson.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Belle Garst Patterson; two sons, Guy Wesley Patterson and David Patterson, both of Sacramento; two daughters, Pamela Jennings and Susan Logsdon, both of Sacramento; two brothers, Delbert Patterson of Escampo, Calif. and Arthur Patterson of Sacramento; a sister, Mary Nell Seddon of Newburgh, Ind.; his step-mother, Emma Patterson of Sacramento; eight grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 18 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with the Rev. Jesse Johnson and the Rev. Charles Bennett officiating. Avanell Groves
GRAHAM - Avanell Groves, 87, of Graham, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Born in Hopkins County Feb. 17, 1917 to the late Andrew and Elsie Simms Williams, she was a member of Bards Hill Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Waverly Groves and a grandson, Kevin Mitchell.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara (Wallace) Mitchell of Greenville, Frankie (J. T.) Williams and Bonnie (Donnie) Sailing, both of Graham; two sons, Lloyd (Shirley) Groves and the Rev. Terry (Connie) Groves, all of Greenville; one half sister, Halliane Settle of Greenville; 23 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; one greatgreatgreatgrandchild; several nieces and nephews; and one special friend, Lisa Hicks.

Barbara Nell Davis
GREENVILLE - Barbara Nell Davis, 89, Monday, Jan. 10, 2005 in the Daviess Community Hospital in Washington, Ind. after a short illness.
Born in Greenville Aug. 22, 1915 to the late Thomas Washington Davis and Lena Rivers McCrocklin Davis, she was a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville and made her affirmation of faith Sept. 19, 1943. She worked for Lester Ford Motors and Harry Holden Ford as a bookkeeper for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her four brothers, Thomas Davis, G. W. Davis, John Davis and Ralph Davis; two sisters, Louise Davis and Willie (Shine) Johnson.
Survivors include one sister, Lorene McDaniel of Washington, Ind. and nine nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 13 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. George Thompson officiating. Burial followed in the Unity Cemetery in Graham.
Ida Magdalene Wells
LOUISVILLE Ida Magdalene Wells, 88, died Wednesday Jan. 12 2005 at the Britthaven Nursing Home in Louisville following several weeks illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 13, 1916 to the late Arthur Wyate Brothers and Minnie Mae Eaves Brothers, she was a member of the Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville. She was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Brothers.
Survivors include her husband, William Noble Wells of Louisville and several cousins.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 14 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Miller officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
