GREENVILLE Virginia Walker Gross Shutt, 77, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Columbia, Ky. Oct. 20, 1927 to the late Rev. Dr. Arthur B. Gross and Lela Walker Gross, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville where her father served as pastor for 33 years. She was always active in her church, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and serving on numerous committees. Most recently she served on the committee for the church’s 200th birthday celebration. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1945 and from Centre College in Danville in 1949. She taught school in the Muhlenberg County School System and was the first woman to serve on the former Greenville Independent School Board. She was preceded in death by her husband J.D. Shutt on April 30, 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Doyle (Teresa) Shutt of Greenville and Arthur (Mary) Shutt of Titusville, Fla.; a brother, Dr. Tom (Minnie) Gross of Pensacola, Fla.; two grandchildren, Christopher Shutt and Andrew Shutt, both of Greenville; two step-grandchildren, Peggy Fazio of Titusville, Fla. and Nick Fazio of Sarasota, Fla. and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 15 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Barry Shelton officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Adrian Jackson Noffsinger
GREENVILLE Adrian Jackson Noffsinger, 79, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Graham Aug. 10, 1925 to the late Earl and Ursula Noffsinger, he attended the Antioch school and was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He received the Purple Heart after his ship, the USS Shelton was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine. He retired from the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in 1986 with more than 39 years of service. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Central City and a member of the Paducah Masonic Lodge #127. He was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Noffsinger and a sister, Anna Laura Ezell.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years. Mayme Nell Gossett Noffsinger; two sons, Perry (Beth) Noffsinger of Owensboro and David (Penny) Noffsinger of Nelson Creek; three daughters, Vicki (Win) Rowe of Greenville, Debbye (Tony) Groves of Graham and Sandra Ashley of Powderly; three sisters, Veleda (Durward) Cornette of Greenville, Faye Best of Hartland, Mich. and Lora Mae Underwood of Greenville; a brother, Harvey (Doris) Noffsinger of Troy, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four step grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 16 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial followed in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Powderly.
Ruby Christine Robinson Pearson
BEECHMONT Ruby Christine Robinson Pearson, 87, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 6, 1916, she was a homemaker and member of Leigh’s Chapel General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Pearson, a son, Bobby Neal Pearson, a sister, Nell Epley and a grandson, Heath Pearson.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy (Brenda) Pearson and Richard (Judy) Pearson; two daughters, Joyce (Thomas) McPherson and Freda (Billy) Lovell; two brothers, Edward Robinson and Proctor Robinson, both of Evansville; a sister, Guy Eva Stapleton of Arizona; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 16 at Leigh’s Chapel General Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Wright officiating. Burial followed in Old Jackson Cemetery in Beech Creek. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
John William Smith
TOLEDO, OHIO John William Smith, 80, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004 at St. Anna’s Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County May 7, 1924 to the late Needham and Jessie Smith, he was a US Army Veteran of World War II and retired from Autolite and AP Parts. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ted, Ed and Warren and a sister, Sue Pate.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Mary; two daughters, Betty Tyree and Patricia Diane Villarreal; a brother, Alfred Smith; two sisters, Iris Guernsey and Irene Williams; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Dec. 23 in the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home in Oregon, Ohio.
Lena Mae Scott
CALHOUN Lena Mae Scott, 102, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born in McLean County Aug. 10, 1902, she was a member of Calhoun Methodist Church and a retired schoolteacher.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 14 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. James Watt officiating. Burial followed at Calhoun Cemetery.
James Otho Thompson
James Otho Thompson, 78, died Friday, Jan. 14 at Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson.
Born in Todd County Nov. 29, 1926, he was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and employed by TVA. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Sue Thompson.
Survivors include four sons, James Douglas Thompson, Johnny Gordon Thompson, Tracy Glenn Thompson and Chester Ford Thompson; seven daughters, Olga Jean Isbell, Vicki Lynn Cornette, Scharliene Tucker, Robin Gail Yonts, Bonita Faye Hill and Stacie Louise Brasher; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 16 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Sam Beany officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Eldred Houston Stewart
Eldred Houston Stewart, 91, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Muhlenberg County May 30, 1913. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Central City, a World War II veteran and a retired Coal Miner from Island Creek Coal Co.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Stewart; two daughters, Kathy Cessna of Henderson and Barbara Jean Leibfeid of Owensboro; a son, Eldred Artley Stewart of Owensboro; a sister, Dorothy Stewart of Owensboro; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 17 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Kyle Noffsinger, the Rev. Charles Gresham and the Rev. E.W. Greenwalt officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Jerry Lee Sides
BROWDER Jerry Lee Sides, 20, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, July 7, 1984, the son of Jeff and Martha Sides, he was employed at Morgantown Plastics.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Shannon Craig of Indianapolis and Brian Raymer of Browder; a sister Chasity Raymer of Browder and a grandmother, Norma Sides of Central City.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 18 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Davis officiating. Burial followed in Ebenezer Cemetery in Drakesboro.

DUNMOR Charles Gaskey, 51, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005 at his residence, the result of a house fire.
Born in Logan County Aug. 18, 1953 to the late William Lewis Gaskey and Iva Marie Gaskey.

Born in Logan County July 27, 1951 to the late William Lewis Gaskey and Iva Marie Gaskey. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Lawrence William (L.W.-Dub) Grace
GREENVILLE Lawrence William Grace, 73, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County Aug. 20, 1931, the son of the late William Lawrence Grace and Minnie Pearl Brasher Grace, he was an Air Force Veteran and a retired painter and carpenter. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Marie Uzzle and two brothers, William L. Grace Jr. and Clifton Grace.
Survivors include a sister, Margaret A. Vincent of Greenville; two brothers, Orvil Grace of Greenville and Charles Grace of Warsaw, Mo. and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 19 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Greenville. Friends may call between 5 and 8 p.m. Jan. 18 at Gary’s Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. on Jan. 19.
Hazel L. Weatherford
Hazel L. Weatherford, 93, of Central City died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Born June 2, 1909 in Muhlenberg County, he was a member of Richardson Chapel General Baptist Church. He is survived by three sons, Alton Weatherford of Dayton, Ohio, Glen Weatherford of Central City and Ronnie Weatherford of Hanover, Ind.; three daughters, Phyliss Dodrill of Winter Haven, Fla., June Oliver of Portage, Ind. and Kay Stick of Cedar Lake, Ind.; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 10, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Revs. Rick Oliver and T. H. Davis officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. HOPKINSVILLE - Tessie P. McElwain Edwards, 86, of Hopkinsville, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville following a brief illness. Born Nov. 28, 1916, a native of Greenville, she was the daughter of the late William Hubert and Rebecca Smith McElwain. She was a homemaker and a member of Life Tabernacle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Wilson Edwards in 1957. She is survived by a son, J. W. Edwards of Hopkinsville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville with the Rev. Gerald Adams officiating. Burial followed in Slaughter Cemetery in Clifty. Allan Wayne Drake
OWENSBORO - Allan Wayne Drake, 51, of Owensboro, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003 at his residence. Born in Anchorage, Alaska, the son of Jacqueline Goode Duke of Anchorage, he was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and the owner and operator of Wayne Industries in Greenville. He was a graduate of Castle Heights Military Academy in Nashville and attended Western Kentucky University. In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, John Duke, of Owensboro; two daughters, Martha Duke and Mary Duke of Owensboro; and two brothers, Rhonald Duke and David Duke, both of Anchorage. Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 12, at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial followed in Resurrection Cemetery. Glenn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

RUSSELLVILLE - Carol W. Whitmer, 66, of Russellville, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003 at his residence. Born March 20, 1936 in Muhlenberg County, he was a member of United Methodist Temple in Russellville and Bremen Masonic Lodge #596. He was retired from TVA as a chemist. He is survived by his wife, Jo Gentry Whitmer of Russellville; one son, Patrick Whitmer of Lexington, Ky.; and one brother, Ronald Whitmer of Versailles, Ky. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 13, at United Methodist Temple with the Revs. John Weber, Herb Kittinger, Charles Rogers and J. C. Thorpe officiating. MADISONVILLE - Blondena Miller, 86, of Madisonville, formerly of Greenville, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home. Born Nov. 11, 1916 in Graham, she was the daughter of the late Semmon Todd and Jenny Wilkins Todd. She was a homemaker, attended Covenant Community Church, and was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Depoy, Ky. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Elbert Miller, on Oct. 22, 1971; one son, Edward Miller and four sisters. She is survived by one son, Glenn Miller of Madisonville; two grandchildren, Chris Miller of Maryland and Kristal Dexter of Madisonville; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Jan. 10 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville with Pastor Michael Knight officiating. Burial followed in Vernal Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Born August 14, 1930, he was a retired coal miner and had been employed by Peabody Coal Co. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Clara Miner Rice; two daughters, Carolyn Duncan of Greenville and Janice Riley of Morton's Gap; two grandsons, Mike Jones and Kevin Duncan, both of Greenville; two great grandchildren, Cody and Jody Jones of Greenville; three brothers, Shorty Rice, Eual Rice and Junior Rice, all of Greenville; and four sisters, Nell Lee and Retha Coombs, both of Greenville, Louise Blakeman and Joyce Dulin, both of Dayton, Ohio. CICERO, ILL. - Sherry Ann McDonald Lehpamer, 58, of Cicero, Ill., died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at the John Stroger Hospital in Chicago after a short illness. Born Oct. 15, 1944 in Muhlenberg County, the daughter of the late Carl Willard McDonald and Virginia Avanell Parham McDonald, she was a member of Cherry Grove Church of Christ in Weir and was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Gary Lehpamer of Cicero; her mother, Avanell McDonald; one brother; Wayne McDonald of Greenville; two sisters, Susie Fuller and Janice Strader, both of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 13, 2003 at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville with Mr. Bob Gardner officiating, assisted by Mr. Ray Gann. Burial followed in Cherry Grove Cemetery in Weir.
