Born in Muhlenberg County, May 3, 1929, to the late Clarence and Callie Hunt, he was a laborer for Special Mining Service in Greenville.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Cartwright Hunt; three sons, Terry Hunt of Bowling Green, Dale Hunt of Drakesboro and Ricky Hunt of Powderly; a daughter, Tammy Hunt of Browder; a brother, Bobby Hunt of Beechmont; a sister, Margie Nell Vance of Illinois; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Jan. 2 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerold Glenn Beliles officiating. Burial followed in Mud River Union Cemetery in Belton.
Elmo Albert Jessup
GREENVILLE - Elmo Albert Jessup, 99, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital following several weeks of illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Oct. 2, 1904, he was a retired employee of the Chrysler Automobile Company and a member of Roland Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Adell Jessup; a daughter, Sona Faye (Eddie) Cary of Greenville; a sister, Lelia Vincent of San Diego, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Steven Cary and Sarah Cary, both of Greenville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Jan. 3 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Mooneyham and the Rev. Carl Nelson officiating. Burial followed in Vernal Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Roland Memorial Church Building Fund.
Mildred Hardison Latham
PEMBROKE - Funeral services for Mildred Hardison Latham, 91, were held at 10 a.m., Jan. 2 at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville. Burial followed in Cherry Grove Church of Christ Cemetery. Hughart and Beard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Junior Elvis Garrett
Junior Elvis Garrett, 76, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, May 30, 1927, he was a production worker for General Motors in Michigan and of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Sadler Garrett; three sons, James E. Garrett and Darrell Wayne Garrett, both of Central City, and Scott Garrett of South Carrollton; a brother, Jewell Garrett of Central City; a sister, Louise Hunley of Central City; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Jan. 4 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Uzzle, Jr. and the Rev. Ray France officiating. Burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.
Calvin Paul Jones
GREENVILLE - Calvin Paul Jones, 69, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2003 at his residence following a long illness.
A native of Zanesville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Russell E. Jones and Mary Agnes Livingston Jones. He was a retired professor with Pikeville College and a member of the First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Mae Wiggington Jones; a brother, Russell Wayne Jones; and a sister, Maxine McElmurray.
Survivors include a son, James E. Jones of Buck Eye, Ariz.; two daughters, Leticia Gay Domingues of Louisville and Mellissa A. Jones of Greenville; a brother, Clifton C. Jones of Winter Park, Fla.; a sister, Elizabeth Jones Hill of Waddy, Ky.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Jan. 5 at Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel in Frankfort with the Rev. Wallace Kent officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Karen Gail Gish
SACRAMENTO - Karen Gail Gish, 49, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Born in McLean County, Aug. 11, 1954, to the late Carl and Goldia Gish, she was a member of Church Street General Baptist Church in Bremen. “She was our special angel we loved, and who gave us so much love. She will always be our special angel. She liked to go to church, she liked to listen to music and she liked to watch T.V. and sing,” according to family.
Survivors include four brothers, Darrell Ray Gish, Donald (Linda) Gish and Carl (Linda) Gish, all of Sacramento and Bobby (Linda) Gish of Adams, Tenn.; four sisters, Betty (Ed) Ward and Rita (Teddy) Tooley, both of Sacramento and Wanda (Earl) Smith and Janie (Allen) Baize, both of Bremen.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Jan. 6 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with the Rev. Danny Greene and the Rev. Dale Ward officiating. Burial followed in Shaver’s Cemetery in Bremen.
Itilene Thompson Uzzle
CADIZ - Itilene Thompson Uzzle, 85, died Sunday Jan. 4, 2004 at her residence of natural causes.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Oct. 21, 1918, to the late Bud Thompson and Angie LaFrance Thompson, she was a homemaker and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Luther Uzzle in 1986 and a daughter, Shirley Jean Merrick in 2003.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Uzzle and Johnny Uzzle, both of Cadiz; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Jan. 6 at Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc. in Cadiz with the Rev. Terry Mitcheson and the Rev. Greg Creekmur officiating. Burial followed in Trigg Memory Acres in Cadiz.
Don “Camp” Camplin
GREENVILLE - Don “Camp” Camplin, 51, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville after a sudden illness.
Born April 27, 1952, to the late Marvin Camplin and Francis Isabel Dukes Camplin, he worked for Greenville Quarries for 22 years as a heavy equipment operator. He was a Dale Earnhart, NASCAR and Kentucky Wildcat fan.
Survivors include a sister, Sharon (Terry) Ray of Greenville; two nephews, Terry (Tonya) Ray, Jr. and Shawn (Leanne) Ray, both of Greenville; two great-nephews, Aaric and Zachary; and three great-nieces, Chasity, Tiffany and Isabel.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Jan. 6 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Adam Brown officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
William J. “Bill” Shutt
EVANSVILLE - William J. “Bill” Shutt, 73, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at Deaconess Hospital.
He was a member of Oak Hill Church of Christ and Toastmasters. He was active in Boy Scout Troop 329 and involved in Junior Achievement. He retired in 1989 from Whirlpool Corporation as a general supervisor for 32 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Margaret Mae in 2000; sisters, Virginia Collier and Mary Elizabeth Alvin; and parents William Raymond and Martha Shutt.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynne Davis of Newburgh, Ind.; a son, Gary Shutt of Evansville, Ind.; two sisters, Lucille Morris of Clarksville, Tenn. and Mae Dezern of Louisville; a brother, David Shutt of Beechmont; an uncle, Henry Shutt of Beech Creek; and two granddaughters.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Jan. 5 at Alexander East Chapel in Evansville with Bobby Wade officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Mausoleum.

Mary Louise Beck
Mary Louise Beck, 87, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Maple Manor Nursing Center in Greenville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Oct. 3, 1915, she was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Central City.
Survivors include two grandsons, Eric Beck of Bremen and Todd Beck of Evansville, Ind.; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Jan. 5 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. W.R. Cook officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
John C. Walker
GREENVILLE - John Coulter Walker, 68, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
A native of Muhlenberg County, born March 13, 1935, to the late Frank and Ethel Moore Walker, he was a retired foreman at Pop Fastener, a Mason and a member of the New Work Fellowship.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Skipworth Walker; two daughters, Karen Grace of Hopkinsville and Pam Mercer of Loveland, Ohio; two sisters, Dorothy Lee of Hopkinsville and Joann Moore of Greenville; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Dec. 20 at the New Work Fellowship with the Rev. Kent Workman officiating. Burial followed in Greenbrier School House Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the New Work Fellowship building fund or to Gideon’s International. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home in Hopkinsville was in charge of arrangements.
Lillian Martine Rolfes
GREENVILLE - Lillian Martine Rolfes, 87, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at Maple Manor Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, March 8, 1917, to the late Clifford and Maggie Wade, she was a member of the First Christian Church and enjoyed playing bridge and scrabble and spending time with family.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Herman Rolfes; three sons, Larry Williams of Jamul, Calif., Randy O’Neal of Anchorage, Alaska, and Timothy O’Neal of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Marcia Northun of Santee, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Jan. 7 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. George Thompson officiating. Burial will take place in Yeargins Chapel Cemetery in Graham. Visitation will be held after 9 a.m., Wednesday at Gary’s Funeral Home.
Vada Travis Adler
BEECH CREEK - Vada Travis Adler, 101, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004 in the Medco Center in Henderson where she had lived for the past seven years.
Born in Muhlenberg County, May 19, 1902, to the late Rob Travis and Etta Latham Travis, she was the oldest member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Adler in 1957 and a daughter, Helen Bowers in 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Flo Day of Henderson; two granddaughters, Becky Russelburg of Morganfield and Glenda Duckett of Texas; a grandson, Bruce Bowers of Texas; four great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Jan. 7 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Casebier and the Rev. Roy Day officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation will be held after 9 a.m., Wednesday. Gary’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Henley Woodard
Henley Woodard, 82, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 24, 1922, he was a retired coal miner and a member of Powderly Holiness Church in Powderly.
Survivors include his wife, Alda Brown Woodard; two sons, Buford Warren Woodard and David Wayne Woodard, both of Owensboro; a daughter, Norma Jean Stone of Central City; four grandchildren, Byron, Kelsey, Sierra and Michelle; two great grandchildren, Brynn and Lyndon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Dec. 31 at Tucker Funeral Home with Bro. Don Cooper officiating. Burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.
Mary Norene Latham Fox
GREENVILLE - Mary Norene Latham Fox, 93, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 2, 1911 to the late Ethraim Emmett Latham and Ella Carver Latham, she was a member of Mercer Baptist Church in Powderly. She was a homemaker and worked at the airplane factory in Evansville during World War II. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leander Yonts; a son, Neil Wayne Yonts, and her second husband, the Rev. Fred Fox.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Selena M. Fox of Greenville; a step-son, Clemis (Margaret) Fox of Williamsburg, Ohio; two sisters, Marilyn Latham Carneal of Newburgh, Ind. and Wilma Latham Fleming of Evansville; eight step-grandchildren; 10 step-great grandchildren; and six step-great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Dec. 30 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial followed in Macedonia Cemetery in Rosewood.
Bettie Jo Holmes Barnett
CINCINNATI, OHIO - Bettie Jo Holmes Barnett, 76, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at Good Samaritan Hospital.
A long time resident of Clifton, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert K. Barnett.
Survivors include three sons, Terry L. Barnett, Dale R. Barnett and Charles Barnett; a daughter, Gloria J. Vance; a sister, Margaret “Midge” Helen Edwards of Powderly; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Dec. 28 at Miller-Busse and Borgmann Funeral Home in Clifton. Burial followed in Spring Grove Garden Mausoleum.
