Bremen - Mr. George Henry Caswell, 66, of Bremen died Thursday, March 7, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Caswell was born in Muhlenberg County on January 5, 1936 to the late Raymond and Birdie Caswell. He was a self-employed logger and was of the Holiness faith. He was also a veteran of the Army. He was preceded in death by not only his parents, but also his grandson, Joshua Caswell and one brother, Harold Dean Caswell.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie Casey Caswell of Bremen; two sons, George Eugene Caswell and David Earl Caswell both of Bremen; two daughters, Birdie Vincent of Central City and Vickie Lynn Gross of Clarksville, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three sisters, Elizabeth Level, Virginia Stewart and Betty Bethel all of Bremen.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home with Reverend Ted Everly officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Bremen.
Jimmy Ray Pentecost
Greenville - Mr. Jimmy Ray Pentecost, 68, of Greenville died Friday, March 8, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mr. Pentecost was born in Muhlenberg County on October 30, 1933. He was a retired coal miner for Peabody Coal Company and of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the United Mine Worker Association. He was preceded in death by three brothers, W.T. Pentecost, Bill Pentecost and Jewell Pentecost; and one sister, Louise Jonell Carver.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Smith Pentecost of Greenville; three sons, Danny Pentecost of Greenville, Gary Pentecost of Huntsville, Alabama and Steve Smith of Beechmont; one daughter, Angie Mercer of Greenville; one sister, Lois Dukes of Greenville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 11, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Walter Evitts officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens in Powderly.
Floella Phillips Edwards
Central City - Ms. Floella Phillips Edwards, 79, of Central City died Friday, March 8, 2002 at Maple Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greenville.
Ms. Edwards was born in Muhlenberg County on August 14, 1922. She was a member of the Seventh Day Advent Church in Powderly.
Survivors include five sons, Tommy Edwards of Greenville, Joe Edwards of Elkton, Donald Edwards of Beechmont and Denny Edwards and Tony Edwards both of Central City; one daughter, Glenda Sue Woodson of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Phillips of Red Fox, Kentucky and Alene Phillips of Florida.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 11, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Jewell Martin officiating and Gary Sheppard assisting. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Jeremy Blake Wenzel
Central City - Mr. Jeremy Blake Wenzel, 27, of Central City died Saturday, March 9, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mr. Wenzel was born in El Dorado, Illinois on August 7, 1974. He was a welder. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Kenneth Wenzel in 2000.
Survivors include his wife, Danielle Adler Wenzel of Central City; one daughter, Blakelyn Wenzel of Central City; his mother, Marilyn Wenzel of Bremen; Bobby Higgins; one brother, Sean Raymer of California; and his grandmother, Jenny Pearl Wenzel of Shawneetown, Illinois.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Allen Black officiating. Burial followed in Hogan Cemetery in Shawneetown, Illinois.
Louise House
Bremen - Ms. Louise House, 91, of Louisville, formerly of Bremen, died Friday, March 8, 2002 at Parkway Medical Center in Louisville.
Ms. House was born in Muhlenberg County on December 29, 1910. She was a housewife.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Christine House of Fairdale; one daughter-in-law, Katie House; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 11, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend T.H. Davis officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Bremen.
Jimmie T. Smith
Morganfield - Mr. Jimmie T. Smith, 59, of Morganfield died Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Smith was born in Muhlenberg County on March 19, 1942. He lived in Morganfield and was employed as a Security Guard with the Pinkerton Services.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Smith of Morganfield; one daughter, Tammy Lou Brown of Sturgis; three sons, Terry Gordon Smith, William E. Smith and John D. Smith all of Morganfield; eight grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis J. Cosgrove of Lake Placid, Florida.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with Reverend Joey Durham officiating. Burial followed in Jackson Cemetery.
Edna Juanita Eaves
Central City - Mrs. Edna Juanita Eaves, 63, of Central City died Sunday, March 10, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mrs. Eaves was born in Muhlenberg County on September 6, 1938. She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen C. Putman and one brother, Allen Eaves.
Survivors include one brother, Kenneth Marple of Liberty, Kentucky; one step-sister, Shirley Miller of Hammond, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Carolyn Erwin officiating. Burial followed in Nebo Cemetery.
Dorothy Miller Thurman
Sacramento - Mrs. Dorothy Miller Thurman, 75, of Sacramento died Wednesday, March 6, 2002.
Mrs. Thurman was born in Millport. She was the owner/operator of Dorothy’s Custom House in Sacramento for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Church and also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy Thurman of Sacramento; one son, Keith Rickard of Owensboro; two daughters, Pam Jameson of Gainesville, Georgia and Lori Ramage of Madisonville; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, W.C. “Sonny” Miller of Rough River, Ronnie Miller, Frankie Miller and Dennis Miller all of Bremen; two sisters, Helen Hobgood of Louisville and Jean Caldwell of Bremen; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 11, 2002 at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial followed in Brier Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in Millport.
Muster Funeral Home in Calhoun was in charge of all arrangements.

Elmer Lile
Greenville - Mr. Elmer Lile, 89, of Greenville died Friday, March 8, 2002 at Maple Manor Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Greenville after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Lile was born in Muhlenberg County on June 27, 1912 and was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Adelle Lile of Greenville; two sons, Bill Lile and Gene Lile both of Louisville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Eunice Hardison of Greenville; and one brother, Ned Lile of Fearsville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial followed in the Cave Spring Cemetery.

Corbett "Jack" Day
Lewisburg - Mr. Corbett “Jack” Day, 86, of Lewisburg (Dunmor area), died Thursday, March 7, 2002 at Logan Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Day was born in Muhlenberg County on September 5, 1915 to the late John Wesley and Bessie Day. He was a self-employed carpenter and was a veteran of the Army where he served in World War II. He was also a member of Mt. Moriah Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by not only his parents but also one sister, Mrs. Alma Morrison; one brother, Mr. Murray Day; and one grandson, Mr. Shane Mallory.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Mildred Evelyn Day of Lewisburg; three daughters, Mrs. Jeanette Mantlo of Russellville, Mrs. Walsie Yvette Hancock of Owensboro and Mrs. Evanna Mallory of Russellville; one sister, Mrs. Katherine Day Cohen of Dayton, Ohio; one brother, Mr. Paul Day of Dayton, Ohio; two granddaughters, Lisa Graham of Russellville and Melissa Ellis of Springfield, Tennessee; two grandsons, Josh Hancock and Jordan Hancock both of Owensboro; and three great-grandchildren, Eric Graham of Russellville and Shelby Ellis and Westin Ellis both of Springfield, TN.
A graveside service was held Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Dunmor Cemetery with Rick Shutt officiating. Burial followed in Dunmor Cemetery in Dunmor.

Janice "Faye" Pointer Reich
South Carrollton - Mrs. Janice “Faye” Pointer Reich, 42, of South Carrollton, formerly of Evansville, died Friday, March 8, 2002 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
Mrs. Reich was born on November 24, 1959.
Survivors include her husband of 13 years, Keith A. Reich of South Carrollton; two daughters, Marquaitta Faye Johnson and her husband, Jason and Kathryn Caine; three grandchildren, Samantha Pointer, Shelby Elizabeth Pointer and Zachary Allen Martin Caine; her mother, Sarah Slinker and step-father, Ray; her father, Shelby Pointer; two sisters, Mae Sunderman and Kay Pointer; three brothers, Steve Pointer, Roy Pointer and David Vincent; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 10, 2002 at Alexander West Chapel in Evansville with Reverend Glen Bohlen officiating.

Garvice Miller
Howell, Michigan - Mr. Garvice Miller, 91, of Howell, Michigan, formerly of Bremen, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at McPherson Hospital in Howell.
Mr. Miller was born in Rumsey, Kentucky on June 9, 1910 to Bordie Miller and Lillian (Riggs) Miller. He had been employed by Edson Moore Dry Goods of Detroit for over 25 years and Bates Dry Goods of Cleveland for seven years. He was married to Zera M. Pittman in Rockport, Indiana in 1929, she preceded him in death on May 18, 2001. Mr. Miller was also a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Howell. In addition to his wife he was also preceded in death by his sister, Rachel Cook and son-in-law, Thurman Gunn.
Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Gunn of Howell; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Sanford Cemetery in Cohoctah Township in Howell, Michigan with the Reverend Mark Edwards of Liberty Baptist Church officiating.

Edwin B. Smith
Rochester - Mr. Edwin B. Smith, 78, of Rochester, died Sunday, March 10, 2002 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green.
Mr. Smith was born in Muhlenberg County to the late Clay Smith and Ida Mae Kimmel Smith. He was retired from T.V.A. and was of the Baptist faith. He served as an Army veteran in World War II. He was also a member of Cassia Masonic Lodge 272 F & Am and Scottish Rite in Madisonville. He was preceded in death by not only his parents but his first wife, Ada Pauline Peay Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Jean Staples Smith of Rochester; one son, Dannie Smith of Drakesboro; two daughters, Theresa Leny of Greenfield, Indiana and Elaine Felty of Morgantown; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Emelda Reynolds of Drakesboro; and one brother, Ellis Smith of Belton.
A Masonic Service will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Jones Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Rochester Cemetery.
Howard Ray Herode
San Angelo - Mr. Howard Ray Herode, 72, of San Angelo died Saturday, March 9, 2002 at a local hospital.
Mr. Herode was born in Rochester, Kentucky on April 6, 1929 to the late Henry and Clara McCoy Herode. He married his loving wife of 39 years, Ida Simmons on April 23, 1963 in Odessa, Texas. He worked in the oil field trucking industry for many years for Lane Brothers Trucking J.E. Cox and Son Trucking, E.L. Farmers Trucking where he met many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by not only his parents but also his two brothers and a grandson.
Survivors include his wife Ida Herode of San Angelo; three sons, Darrel Herod and his wife, Carla, of Snyder, Paul Herode and wife, Kim, of West Chester, Ohio and Chris Stewart and wife, Pam, of San Angelo; one daughter, Joyce Webb and husband, Sherman, of West Chester, Ohio; two sisters, Mary Ruth Bryant of Central City and Betty Cain of Belton; eight brother-in-laws; six, sister-in-laws; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends in Kentucky and Texas.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Reverend Bob Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Mabel M. (Jones) Pearson
Greenville - Mrs. Mabel M. (Jones) Pearson, 90, of Greenville died Monday, March 11, 2002 at Owensboro Mercy Hospital.
Mrs. Pearson was born on March 5, 1912 and was a member of Leigh’s Chapel Church in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Pearson.
Survivors include one daughter, Martha M. Dempsey; two sons, L.E. Pearson and Bob Pearson; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, May McDougal of Gallatin, Tennessee.
Viewing will be held at Leigh’s Chapel Church on Wednesday, March 13, 2002 beginning at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 14, 2002 at Leigh’s Chapel Church with Brother Jerry Troutman and Brother Roger Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Old Jackson Cemetery in Muhlenberg County.

Thelma Mae (Trigger) Cook
Central City - Mrs. Thelma Mae (Trigger) Cook, 73, of Central City died Thursday, March 7, 2002 at her home.
Mrs. Cook was born in Harlan County, Kentucky on September 30, 1928 to the late Richard H. Christian and Kate Green Christian. She was preceded in death by not only her parents but also, her husband, William Cook, Jr.
Survivors include three sons, William Cook III, John Cook and Douglas Cook, all of Central City; four sisters, Newa Day of Eustis, Florida, Beatrice Carr of Medina, Ohio, Betty Jackson of Middlesboro, Kentucky and Tommie Sue Comer of Henderson; two brothers, Robert Christian of Sebring, Florida and Bill Christian of Pembroke; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Homer Jackson Stewart
BREMEN Homer Jackson Stewart, 82, died Monday, May 3, 2004 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, April 25, 1922, he was a retired coal miner for Peabody Coal Co. and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Vonell Noffsinger Stewart; a son, Mike Stewart of Central City; two daughters, Linda Travis of Russellville and Vonita Neal of Central City; a brother, Norman Stewart of Bremen; seven grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., May 6 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Bremen.
