Born in Muhlenberg County, April 25, 1922, he was a retired coal miner for Peabody Coal Co. and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Vonell Noffsinger Stewart; a son, Mike Stewart of Central City; two daughters, Linda Travis of Russellville and Vonita Neal of Central City; a brother, Norman Stewart of Bremen; seven grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., May 6 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Bremen.
Harold C. Teague
LOUISVILLE Harold C. Teague, 82, died Monday, May 3, 2004 at Audobon Hospital in Louisville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Sept. 14, 1921, he was a retired truck driver and a member of Willow Glen Church of Christ. He was also a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Warman Teague; two sons, Billy Teague of Owensboro and Danny Teague of Louisville; a daughter, Brenda Carroll of Louisville; a sister, Mary Drake of Tennessee; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., May 6 at Tucker Funeral Home with Pat Franklin officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Mary Lois Jarvis
GREENVILLE Mary Lois Jarvis, 78, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 2, 1926, she was a homemaker and a member of New Cypress Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jarvis; a granddaughter, Wendy Beth Jarvis; a sister, Elizabeth Ray; and three brothers, Charlie Vincent, Robert Vincent and Jewel Vincent.
Survivors include six sons, William (Phyllis) Jarvis, Jimmy (Freda) Jarvis, Richard (Kim) Jarvis and Mitchell (Judy) Jarvis, all of Greenville, Jesse (Vickie) Jarvis of Owensboro and Michael (Kathy) Jarvis of Graham; three daughters, Joyce (Donnie) Hope and Carolyn Hunt, both of Greenville, and Rosemary (Richard) Buck of Beechmont; a brother, Henry Vincent of Greenville; a sister, Opal Camplin of Morgantown; 24 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., May 7, 2004 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Finley officiating. Burial followed in New Cypress Cemetery.
Herbert Wood
DUNMOR Herbert Wood, 95, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at Crestwood Health Care Center in Shelbyville, Ky.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Aug. 29, 1908, the son of Abner Wood and Etta Hunt Wood, he was a retired laborer for T.V.A., a member of Mt. Moriah Church of Christ and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Katherine Hughes Wood.
Survivors include a daughter, JoAnn Wood Wilson of Louisville and a grandson.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., May 7 at Price Funeral Home, Inc. in Lewisburg. Burial followed in Mt. Moriah Church of Christ Cemetery in Muhlenberg County.
Phyllis Lucille Von Roenn
SACRAMENTO Phyllis Lucille Von Roenn, 83, died Friday, March 30, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Four Lakes, Wash., Aug. 19, 1920, she was a homemaker and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Survivors include two sons, William Henry (Jane) Von Roenn of Sacramento and Frank John Von Roenn of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Virginia Fatcher of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two grandchildren, William Von Roenn and John Von Roenn, both of Sacramento.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., May 10 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Kelly Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in Bremen. Visitation will be held at 5:30 p.m., May 9 at Tucker Funeral Home.
Bennie Ray Smith
GRANITE CITY, ILL. Bennie Ray Smith, 74, died Monday, April 12, 2004 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Dec. 29, 1929, the son of the late James Robert Smith and Olga Johnson Smith, he was a retired building supervisor for Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Granite City and Chaplain for the Senior Citizens Club of Chouteau Township as well as a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Helen L. Lear Smith; two sons, Stephen R. (Yvonne) Smith of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and David W. Smith of Festus, Mo.; two sisters, Dorothy Groves of Lewisburg and Maxine Bean of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a granddaughter, Lauren Michelle Smith of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., April 15 at Irwin Chapel in Granite City with the Rev. John Gamblin officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Edwardsville, Ill. Memorials can be made to the Grace Baptist Church Building Fund.
Lois Wayne Hardison
DRAKESBORO Lois Wayne Hardison, 66, died Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Sept. 22, 1937, he was a retired sawmill worker and a member of Christ of Calvary in Cleaton.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Bratcher Hardison; four daughters, Anna Pryor of Martinville, Ind., Pamela Cople of Central City, Mary DeArmond of Weir and Polly Moore of Cleaton; a son, Kenny Lear of Central City; two brothers, Harold Hardison of Central City and Eldon Hardison of Greenville; a sister, Dean McManaway of Beechmont; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., May 8 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike DeArmond officiating. Burial followed in Mud River Union Cemetery in Belton.
Rosemary Costich Snyder
DRAKESBORO Rosemary Costich Snyder, 78, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at her residence following several weeks of illness.
Born in Monroe County, N.Y., Nov. 25, 1925, the daughter of Emmett Costich and Pearl Thompson Costich, she was a homemaker and housewife and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brockport, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her son, Marc Snyder in 2000.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Donald L. Snyder of Drakesboro; a daughter, Elin Smith of Belton; three sons, Michael Snyder of North Charleston, S.C., William Snyder of Ankra, Turkey and Stephan Snyder of Albian, N.Y.; a sister, Phyllis Schafer of Hammond, N.Y.; a brother, Emmitt Costich of Lexington; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., May 10 from Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Chambers officiating. Burial followed in Lake Side Cemetery in New York, N.Y.
Sylvia McGehee Moore
ELKTON Sylvia McGehee Moore, 83, died Friday, May 7, 2004 at Hearthstone Place in Elkton following an illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Jan. 23, 1920, the daughter of the late Clay and Clemmie Willis McGehee, she was retired from IGA Grocery and Weathers Drugs in Elkton and was a member of the Sharon Grove Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gordon Moore in 1967.
Survivors include a son, Dale Moore of Elkton; a daughter, Anna Jo Parmley of Olmstead; a brother, Glenn McGehee of Russellville; five sisters, Lorene McPherson, Glenna Dorris and Lathell Dymacek, all of Bowling Green, Martha Moore of Lewisburg and Patsy Addison of Elkton; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., May 9 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with Danny Bowman and Phil Dunn officiating. Burial followed in McPherson Cemetery.
Oliver Daniel Winn
GREENVILLE - Oliver Daniel Winn, 16, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Born February 27, 1986 in Louisville, he was a member of the Greenville United Methodist Church. He was Junior Class President at Muhlenberg South High School and Academic Team Captain of Quick-Recall. He was on the Muhlenberg South tennis, soccer and basketball teams. He was a member of the National Honor Society, Hosa, Jr. Beta Club, Sr. Beta Club and FBLA where he was regional math competition winner and state runner-up. He was Health Career Club president, Duke Talent Identification Program, student site-based council member, student representative for the consolidated plan, attended UCLA Youth and Medicine Program and attended Pikeville School of Medicine Program and had a 4.0 grade point average.
He is survived by his mother, Sherry Winn of Greenville; father, Danny Winn of Henderson; one sister, Olivia Nicole Winn of Greenville; grandparents, Alvie and Wilma Lee of Leitchfield, Gene and Mary Cash of Louisville and D’Anna Winn of Radcliff; and great-grandparent, Agnes Johnson of Leitchfield.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 27, at Second Baptist Church in Greenville with the Rev. Brent Waltrip officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Oliver Winn Scholarship Fund at Old National Bank in Greenville where envelopes are available. Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville was in charge of arrangements.
Mary M. Stanley
NEW ALBANY, IND. - Mary M. Stanley, 89, of New Albany, Ind., died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at Rolling Hills Health Care Center in New Albany following several weeks of illness.
Born April 11, 1913, she was the daughter of John R. Arms and Minnie Glasscock Arms of Muhlenberg County. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville. She was a sitter for patients in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital and also a long time quilt maker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, John R. Stanley.
She is survived by one son, Kenneth E. Walker of Sellersburg, Ind.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Gary’s Funeral Home with Dr. Ray England, assisted by Rev. George Thompson. Burial followed in Cherry Grove Cemetery in Weir. Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville was in charge of arrangements.
L. E. Jackson
L. E. Jackson, 94, of Central City, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born Nov. 6, 1907 in Ohio County, he was an auto mechanic and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by one nephew, Gary Wiggins, of Bloomington, Ind.; and two nieces, Susie Winters of Central City and Nell Crowley of Jeffersonville, Ind.
Graveside services were held Friday, Dec. 27, with the Rev. Ted Everly officiating, and burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Otho Wells
MADISONVILLE - Otho Wells, 91, of Madisonville, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville after a short illness.
Born April 28, 1911, the son of Robert Wells and Ora Lee Shelton Wells , he was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Madisonville.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Zulah Mae Joines Wells of Madisonville; one daughter, Beverly Griffin of Evansville; two granddaughters, Rhonda Johnson and Angelia Jones, both of Evansville; four great-grandchildren and one sister, Elnora Blake of St. Louis.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 28, at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Harry Baldwin officiating. Burial followed in Greenbrier Cemetery in Rosewood. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Alvie Lee France
VALPARAISO, IND. - Alvie Lee France, 65, of Valparaiso, Ind., formerly of Bremen, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002.
Born in Muhlenberg County, one of his favorite pastimes was going to flea markets and rummage sales. He also enjoyed gardening and sharing his vegetables with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie France; one stepson, Roger (Ellen) France of Valparaiso; father, Estil France of Bremen; three brothers, Vernon Wayne (Gail) France of Sacramento, Charles France and Marvin (Liz) France, both of Central City; five sisters, Louetta Gish of Valparaiso, Marie (Robert) Anderson of Central City, Patty Sue (Bobby ) Rager of Cleaton, Betty Jo (Harry) Miller and Linda Faye (Carol) Miller, both of Sacramento; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral serviced were held Sunday, Dec. 29, at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Anderson officiating. Burial followed in Gish Cemetery in Bremen. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Jewell Cundliffe Todd
RICHMOND, KY. - Jewell Cundliffe Todd, 79, of Park Hill Court, Richmond, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at the Richmond Health & Rehabilitation Complex-Kenwood.
Born March 5, 1923 in Muhlenberg County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Grace McClearn Cundliffe. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Stanley Todd in 1981.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald (Annette) Todd of Louisville and Clarence Edward (Judy) Todd of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; three brothers, Jerry Cundliffe, Billy Cundliffe and John Wayne Cundliffe, all of western Kentucky; three sisters, Evelyn Paxton, Marjorie Craft and Carolyn Main, all of western Kentucky; seven grandchildren;four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 28, at Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home in Richmond with the Rev. Gary Payne officiating. Burial followed in Section O of Richmond Cemetery. Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
