BIRMINGHAM, ALA. Mary Sue Uzzle, 89, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003 while visiting her son in Alabama.
Born in Christian County, Sept. 29, 1914, she was a retired Muhlenberg County nurse after 38 years and a member of the Graham Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Uzzle.
Survivors include a son, William (Ellen) Uzzle; two grandchildren, Richard (Melanie) Uzzle and Kevin Uzzle, and a great grandchild, Will Uzzle, all of Birmingham, Ala.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Dec. 30 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Drury officiating. Burial followed in Unity Cemetery near Graham.

Jewel Mae Engler
Jewel Mae Engler, 82, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003 at Maple Manor Health Care in Greenville.
Born in Marion, Ill., April 22, 1921, to the late Bill and Lucy Bartlett, she was a homemaker and a member of Drakesboro Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Engler; a son, Wendell Engler; a brother, Elmo Bartlett; and three sisters, Mildred Bartlett, Lois Cardwell and Virginia Metoyer.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda McGregor of Central City; a step granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; a step great-grandson; and a step great great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Dec. 29 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Travis Fox officiating. Burial followed in Forest Grove Cemetery in Browder.
Louise Hardison Cox
Louise Hardison Cox, 87, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003.
Born in Muhlenberg County, April 6, 1916, she was a retired LPN at Muhlenberg Community Hospital and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Central City.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Harris of Central City; three brothers, Lucian Hardison of Beechmont, Leslie Hardison of Bremen and Berley Hardison of Knox, Ind.; a grandson; and two great granddaughters, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 30 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Beane and the Rev. Michael Hardison officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Jewel Dean Emerson
POWDERLY Jewel Dean Emerson, 75, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, July 22, 1928, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Emerson; a son, Walt Shelton of Murrieta, Calif.; two daughters, Brenda Coker of Orlando, Fla. and Vicky Boothe of Lewisport, Ky.; a brother, Charles D. Brown of Princeton, Ind.; three sisters, Tina Reddick and Jo Nell Snodgrass, both of Evansville and Mary Vaughn of Clarksville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Dec. 31 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Scott Casebier officiating. Burial will follow in Coleman Cemetery. Visitation will be held after 5 p.m., Dec. 30 at Tucker Funeral Home.
Frank Leonard Peterson
GREENVILLE Frank Leonard Peterson, 81, died Sunday, December 28, 2003 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital Emergency Room after a sudden illness.
Born in Dent, N.D., March 31, 1922, to the late Frank Peterson and Mildred Ademec Peterson, he retired from the Roto Print Company in 1984 after 40 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra June Long of Crescent City, Ill.; two sons, Frank E. Peterson of Beech Creek and Gary L. Peterson of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Elizabeth Playo of Chicago, Ill. and Mary Ann Davis of Justice, Ill.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Dec. 31 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Father Ben Luther officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Jan. 2 at Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery South Cemetery in Worth, Ill. Visitation will be held after 9 a.m., Dec. 31 at Gary’s Funeral Home.
David Eugene Anderson
SOUTH CARROLLTON – David Eugene Anderson, 64, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Winslow, Ind. July 19, 1941, he worked for the Muhlenberg County Commerce Center, was the mayor of South Carrollton, a member of the Bremen Masonic Lodge and of the Holiness faith. He was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Wayne Anderson.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Anderson; two sons, David Earl Anderson of South Carrollton and Danny Eugene Anderson of Central City; a daughter, Debbie Sue Lindsey of South Carrollton; three brothers, Doug Anderson of Bremen, Jackie Anderson and Elmer Anderson, both of Central City; four sisters, Della Garrett of Bremen, Sharon Garrett, Donna Eaves and Retta Noffsinger, all of Central City and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Dec. 31 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ezra Miller and the Rev. Mike Foster officiating. Burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.
Hathalene G. Stone
POWDERLY – Hathalene G. Stone, 79, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005 in the Baptist East Hospital in Louisville after a lengthy illness.
Born in McVeigh, Ky. March 20, 1926, the daughter of the late Admal Dewey Garland and Etha Hunt Garland, she was a member of Jernigan’s Chapel Church and the first person to retire from Uncle Lee’s in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Denver Stone, in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Dena DeGarmo of North Point, Fla.; a sister, Frances Wright of Greenville; two grandchildren, Joey DeGarmo and Emily DeGarmo, both of Clearwater, Fla. and a niece, Tona Wright of Greenville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 31 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Elder Joey Steel officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
Frances Marie Hunt
LEWISBURG – Frances Marie Hunt, 80, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born in Island, Ky. Aug. 20, 1925, the daughter of the late Robert Jenkins and Ora Mae (Hunt) Jenkins, she was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Moriah Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Shelia Hunt Steele of Beechmont; two sons, Larry Hunt of Bowling Green and Jackie Hunt of Russellville; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Dec. 30 at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg with the Rev. Arno Krantz officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Moriah Church of Christ Cemetery in Muhlenberg County.
John William “J.W.” Walker
GREENVILLE – John William “J.W.” Walker, 78, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005 at the Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville following a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 14, 1927, the son of the late Earl Franklin and Connie Henry Johnston Walker, he was a retired farmer and a member of Johnson Chapel United Methodist Church in Kirkmansville.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Milda Orine Johnston Walker; a son, William C. “Willie” (Phyllis) Walker of Greenville; a daughter, Regina Kay Meacham of Hopkinsville; two grandsons, William Patrick Walker and Korey Carroll Walker, both of Greenville; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Walker, Alysha Fortner and Kolton Walker; two brothers, Gerald Walker and Winford “Bennie” Walker, both of Greenville; four sisters, Floella Dukes of Louisville, Alline Grace and Meraldine Bandy, both of Greenville, and Wanda Bandy of Beaver Dam; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 3, 2006 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Carter officiating. Burial followed in Johnson Chapel Cemetery in Kirkmansville.
James Albert Wilkinson
GREENVILLE – James Albert Wilkinson, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005 in the Owensboro Mercy Health System after a sudden illness.
Born in Cleaton Oct. 11, 1920, the son of the late Albert Gordon and Ethel Wilkinson, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville for 63 years, served as a Sunday school teacher for 35 years and was a deacon for many years. He retired from Neeley and Company in 1978 after 35 years, worked five years for Stewart’s IGA and five years for F. M. Puryear and he was an Army veteran serving in Germany during World War II. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ricky Chappell in 2004 and a granddaughter, Teresa Davis in 2005.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sarah Jane Neeley Wilkinson; four daughters, Jane Gordon Wilkinson Lamke of Elkton, Mary Margaret Wilkinson Edmonds of Island, Sarah Lee Wilkinson Todd of Owensboro and Jimmie Ann Wilkinson of Greenville; three grandchildren, Timmie Chappell, Faith Anne Mefford and Bryant Mitchell; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Madeline Robinson of Louisville.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 4, 2006 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary McAbee and the Rev. Rob Gwaltney officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. Jan. 3 at Gary’s Funeral Home. Hilda Kirtley
ISLAND – Hilda Kirtley, 91, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born in the Sacramento area of McLean County Aug. 15, 1914, the daughter of the late Jake and Lizzie Riley Dame, she later married Bernard Wade “Red” Kirtley. She was a homemaker, had earlier taught school and was the co-owner and operator of Kirtley Hardware Company in Island. She was a member of Island Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for more than 60 years. She also enjoyed cooking, flower gardening and taking care of her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Red Kirtley, on Feb. 14, 1987, a brother, Dave Dame and three sisters, Martha Galloway, Mollie Rust and Ruby Conrad.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Wheeldon of South Carrollton, two granddaughters, Deborah (Murray) Rose of Wichita Falls, Texas and Barbara (Dan) Taylor of Island; seven great-grandchildren, Justin Rose, Ryan Rose, Emily Rose, Ashton Rose, Audrey Rose, Harrison Taylor and Will Taylor; a great-great-granddaughter, Stella Rose; a niece, Bobby Nell Smith; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 5, 2006 at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel with the Rev. Greg Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the Island Community Cemetery in McLean County. Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. Jan. 4 and from 8 a.m. until time of services Jan. 5 at Muster Funeral Home, Livermore Chapel.

GREENVILLE – Charles Adrian Peterson, 78, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006 at Wellington Parc Nursing Home in Owensboro.
Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 23, 1927, he was a retired coal miner and a member of Greens Chapel Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Peterson, in 2005.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Peterson of Custer Park, Ill. and Keith Peterson of Greenville; four grandchildren, Bruce Peterson, Shannon Peterson, Hollie Tooley and Heather Harris; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lester Peterson of Greenville; a sister, Rosa Coombs of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.
