Graham - Miss Shirley Jean Martin, 63, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002 following several days of illness.
Miss Martin was born in Muhlenberg County on October 19, 1938. She was a retired Office Manager for King’s Department Store in Owensboro. She was a 1958 graduate of Graham High School and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sisters, Betty Vander Tuuk of Mt. Vernon, Indiana and Bernadine Evitts of Graham; nine nieces; one nephew; and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 6, 2002 at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with Reverend Jerry Eades officiating. Burial followed in Unity Cemetery near Graham.
Joseph Michael Devivo
Central City - Mr. Joseph Michael Devivo, Sr., 93, died Saturday, April 6, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mr. Devivo was born in Italy on October 14, 1907 and he was retired.
Survivors include one son, Joseph Devivo, Jr. of Madisonville; three step-daughters, Joyce Traficanti of Mundelein, IL, Helen McGraw of Wheaton, IL and Josephine Cook of Northlake, IL; and nine step-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City on Tuesday, April 9, 2002 with Reverend Gary Taylor officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Tucker Funeral Home in Central City was in charge of all arrangements.
Edna Earl Edwards
Central City - Ms. Edna Earl Edwards, 75, of Central City died Monday, April 8, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Ms. Edwards was born in Muhlenberg County on September 21, 1926. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Central City.
Survivors include one son, Clarence Edwards and wife, Donna, of Central City; one grandchild, Brandi Rowe; one great-grandchild, Caleb Rowe; four nieces, Charlie Joinesand Venoy Lott both of Central City and Sonja Babb of Manchester, Maine and Veronica Strothoffof Hobert, Indiana; and two nephews, David Harper of Sacramento and Randall Harper of Central City.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend T.H. Davis officiating and Reverend W.R. Cook assisting. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
Rondal Wayne Gish
West Palm Beach, Florida - Mr. Rondal Wayne Gish, 53, of West Palm Beach, Florida died Sunday, April 7, 2002at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami, Florida.
Mr. Gish was born in Muhlenberg County on January 4, 1949. He was retired and a member of North Wood Baptist Church in West Palm Beach.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Hughes Gish; two daughters, Stephanie Moore and Alice Wilson both of Georgetown; four grandchildren; and one sister, Jennie Lou Earle of Greenville.
Funeral serviceswill be held Thursday, April 11, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Bob Lowery. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Muhlenberg County.
P.A. Shaver, Jr.
Central City - Mr. P.A. Shaver, Jr. of Central City died Easter Sunday, March 31, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Mr. Shaver was a Bremen native born on November 22, 1911. He graduated from Bremen High School in 1929 and married Pauline Noffsinger in 1931 before moving to Central City to operate the Shaver Brothers Standard Service station with his brother, Kenneth. He later worked at the Standard Oil Bulk Plant and also operated the Central City Hatchery until 1949. In 1950, he joined the First National Bank in Central City as a teller. He worked at the bank for 29 years attaining the position of President (1974-1979). In 1980, he became a Director of the Federal Savings and Loan (later the First Kentucky Bank) where he remained on board until 1998. He retired as a Central City Banker. He was a prominent civic leader in the community for over seven decades. Among the organizations that he served, long-time member of the Central City Rotary Club-serving as secretary from 1958-1973, Muhlenberg County Libraries Board of Trustees from 1975-1990, Central City Masonic Lodge - receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award for his 63 years of service. He was Master, District Deputy Grand Master and held the office of secretary and treasurer for over 40 years, active member of the Muhlenberg County Shrine Club, Central City School Board with 28 years of service (1949-1976) and as Chairman of the Board for 19 years, Muhlenberg County Health Department Board from 1978 through March 31, 2002, and Muhlenberg Community Hospital Home Health Board from 1983-2001. He was lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church serving many years as Church Treasurer. He was a member of the Central City Ministerial Association also serving as Treasurer.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Pauline;his son, Tom and daughter-in-law, Skip from Thousand Oaks, California; and one sister, Zelda Neel of Henderson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Tucker Funeral home in Central City with Reverends Carroll Bruce and Jeff DiMatties officiating. Burial will follow at Shaver’s Chapel Cemetery in Bremen.
An active supporter of the Muhlenberg Community College located in Central City, the family asks that expressions of sympathy be made to the Madisonville Community College-Muhlenberg County Campus.
Mary Jo Gregory
Powderly - Mrs. Mary Jo Gregory, 62, of Powderly died Monday, March 25, 2002 at her residence in Powderly.
Mrs. Gregory was born in Muhlenberg County on May 14, 1939. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Thomas Gregory of Powderly; four sons, David Edward Buckles of Rineyville, KY, Steven Randall Buckles of Gastonia, N.C., Billy Daniel Buckles of White Mills, KY and Michael Ray Buckles of Murray, KY; one daughter, Brenda Lee Goode of Lexington; two step-daughters, Donna Gregory of Powderly and Karen Terry of Central City; nine grandchildren; one brother, Virgil Ray Lee of Greenville; and two sisters, June Key of Petersburg, Virginia and Anna Belle Myers of Lexington Park, Maryland.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at Nebo Cemetery with Reverend T.H. Davis. Burial followed in Nebo Cemetery in Greenville.

Anna Belle Roberts
Lexington - Ms. Anna Belle Roberts, 94, of Lexington died Monday, March 25, 2002 at her home in Lexington.
Ms. Roberts was born in Muhlenberg County on May 11, 1907 to the late Charles and Rosetta McDonald. She was a member of Duvall’s Chapel General Baptist Church in Nebo and she was preceded in death by a daughter and son.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane Bradley of Lexington and Linda Huckaby of Easley, South Carolina; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with Reverend Ken Miller officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Greenville.
Callie Culbertson Bransford
Greenville - Ms. Callie Culbertson Bransford, 96, of Greenville died Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.
Ms. Bransford was born in McLean County on May 10, 1905. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Brenda Cary of Greenville and Joyce Tapp of Bowling Green; three great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Christine Culbertson of Greenville.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 28, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home with Ron Cary officiating. Burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.
Dean Ray Dragoo
Greenville - Mr. Dean Ray Dragoo, 50, of Greenville died Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Mr. Dragoo was an employee of Peabody Coal Company for 30 years. Dean was a simple man who went to work and came home to his loving wife, adoring daughters and faithful pet, Lulu. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Dragoo and his younger brother, Russell Dragoo.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Jean “Jeanie” Dragoo of Greenville; two daughters, Ms. Jennifer Dragoo of Greenville and Mrs. Erica (Drew) Dukes of Central City; his mother, Mrs. Edna Dragoo of Crofton; one sister, Mrs. Marilyn Skaggs of Greenville; and three brothers, Mr. Donnie Dragoo of Greenville and Mr. Ronnie Joe Dragoo and Mr. Gary Wayne Dragoo both of Christian County.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 29, 2002 at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with Reverend Royce Dukes officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.

Anthony John Pisaturo
Central City - Mr. Anthony John Pisaturo, 89, died Sunday, March 24, 2002 at his home .
Mr. Pisaturo was born in Providence, Rhode Island on December 3, 1912 and resided there for 85 years. A former native of Rhode Island living there all his life until recently moving to Kentucky. He served in the Naval Reserve in WWII and retired from the U.S. Rail Road Service.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Pisaturo of Central City; children, Anthony Pisaturo, Jr. of Biloxi, MS, John and Daniel Pisaturo of Rhode Island, Michael Kelly of Grand Island, FL, Bruce Kent of Gulfport, MS, Deborah Sperow of Crestview, FL, Michael Nasakaitis of Biloxi, MS, Cindy Foree of Nashville, TN, Pauline Williams of Maurice, LA, Pamela Graham, Virginia Tonelli, Barbara Palumbo, Linda Ferrie, Judy Castelluci, Carol Orlowski, Bert Mason and Joan Mason all of Rhode Island; sisters, Evelyn Farland and Esther Harrison; brother, Armond Pisaturo all of Rhode Island; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held Thursday, April 4, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Cemetery Chapel at 73 Church St. Cranston, RI 02920.
Opal Velma Anderson
Central City - Mrs. Opal Velma Anderson, 82, of Central City died Friday, March 29, 2002 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
Mrs. Anderson was born in Pike County, Indiana on July 3, 1919 to the late Ira Beadles and Della Long. She was a homemaker and a member of Crossing Holiness Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Anderson; two sons, Earl Wayne and Mitchell Anderson; and one daughter, Teresa Kay Anderson.
Survivors include four sons, David Anderson of South Carrollton, Jackie Anderson and Elmer Anderson, both of Central City and Doug Anderson of Bremen; four daughters, Retta Noffsinger, Sharon Garrett and Donna Eaves all three of Central City and Della Garrett of Bremen; 31 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard Beadles and Bob Beadles both of Indiana; and five sisters, Dorothy Curry of Arizona and Mary Bellimey, Fern Mulleins, Virginia Kerby and Josephine Wilber all of Indiana.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 1, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Brother Bill Penrod officiating and Brother Mike Foster assisting. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Carl A. "Butch" Daniel
Elkton - Mr. Carl A. “Butch” Daniel, 55, of Elkton died Sunday, March 31, 2002 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville of natural causes.
Mr. Daniel was born in Christian County, Kentucky on January 4, 1947. He was a part time Deputy Jailer and full time custodian at Todd County Central High School. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Horace Cecil Daniel.
Survivors include his wife, Velva Morgan Daniel of Elkton; his mother, Windolyn Daniel of Elkton; one son, Lonnie Wilson of Elkton; one daughter, Jessica Mizwa of Elkton; one brother, Keith Daniel of Elkton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at Elkton Baptist Church with Reverend Tommy Choate and Reverend Jimmy Stewart Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Todd County Meadow Haven.

Elizabeth Theresa Ciesielski
Greenville - Ms. Elizabeth Theresa Ciesielski, 88, of Greenville died Friday, March 29, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Ms. Ciesielski was born in New York on November 16, 1913. She was a homemaker and was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Bernice Strysh of Florida and Mary Mosley of Greenville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Wanda Bednarczyk of Chicago.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 1, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home with Father Benjamin Luther officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
James W. "Jim" Miller
Calhoun - Mr. James W. “Jim” Miller, 40, of Calhoun died Friday, March 29, 2002 at the Owensboro Mercy Health System in Owensboro.
Mr. Miller was born in Louisville. He was a maintenance coordinator at the DANA Corporation of Owensboro. He was a Born Again Christian and attended the St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Calhoun. He was an Army Veteran and a black belt in karate. He also enjoyed his three little girls, playing pool and listening to Christian Rock Music.
Survivors include his wife, Bernie Edwards Miller; three daughters, Karissa Miller, Miranda Miller and Felicia Miller all at home; his mother and step-father, Phyllis “Joan” and Mitch Fuson of Beaver Dam; his father, James W. “Bill” Miller of Livermore; two brothers, Ron Miller of Centertown and Jerry Miller of Beaver Dam; two sisters, Vicky Miller and Cindy Wimsatt both of Beaver Dam; a step-brother, David Fuson of Morganfield; two step-sisters, Ann Barnett of Morganfield and Judy Chai of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 1, 2002 at the St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Calhoun. Burial followed in the New Salem Cemetery in McLean County.

Greenville - Mr. Iveria Clinton Chandler, 96, died Friday, March 29, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville following several days of illness.
Mr. Chandler was born in Muhlenberg County on April 13, 1905. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Orange Grove General Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Mr. Clint Chandler of Greenville; three daughters, Mrs. Annie A. Kennedy of San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Geneva C. Barker of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Mrs. Peggy D. Crick of Greenville; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with Reverend J.W. Haire officiating and Reverend Brian Haire assisting. Burial will follow in the Olive Grove Cemetery near Greenville.
Emily Murphy Pruitt
Greenville - Mrs. Emily Murphy Pruitt, 65,of Greenville died Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mrs. Pruitt was born in Robertson County, Tennessee on February 23, 1937. She was a retired Executive Director for the Greenville Housing Authority. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Greenville.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Pruitt of Greenville; three sons, Bruce Murphy of Manassass, VA, Mike Murphy of Central City and Matt Murphy of Indianapolis, Indiana; one daughter, Leslie Scruggs of Clarksville, TN; five grandchildren, Shannon Perry, Jasmine Scruggs, Chad Adler and Mike and John Murphy; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter Michael Adler and Kaitlen Murphy.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 30, 2002 at First Christian Church in Greenville with Reverend George Thompson officiating. Burial followed in Old Liberty Cemetery in Greenville.
