Ms. Lyons was born in Muhlenberg County on January 20, 1916. She was a retired egg processor at A & G Egg Company in Central City. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Beechmont.
Survivors include one son, Jackie Lyons of Central City; two daughters, Judy Graves of Bellview, Florida and Betty DeArmond of Beech Creek; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Marvin Blaine of Drakesboro; and one sister, Margaret Allen of Lewisburg.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Beechmont with Mr. Darrell Puryear officiating. Burial followed in Wyatt’s Cemetery in Ebenezer.
Baby Kendall Grace Sweeney
Bowling Green - Baby Kendall Grace Sweeney, 15 days old, of Bowling Green died Friday, February 15, 2002 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
Baby Sweeney was born inNashville, Tn. at Vanderbilt Hospital on Wednesday, January 30, 2002.
Survivors include her parents, Chris and Carrie Sweeney of Bowling Green; paternal grandfather, Billy Sweeney of Hopkinsville; paternal grandmother, Connie Reno of Central City; maternal grandparents, Gary and Gwen Wright of Scottsville; paternal great-grandmother, Mildred Sweeney of Elkton; maternalgreat-grandparents, George and Christine Wright of Bowling Green; one uncle, Daniel; and several great uncles and great aunts.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 18, 2002 at Living Hope Baptist Church in Bowling Green. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery.

James Mitchell Fleming
Browder - Mr. James Mitchell Fleming, 49, of Browder died Monday, February 4, 2002 at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital in Hammond.
Mr. Fleming was born in Muhlenberg County on July 16, 1952. He was an Electrical Repairer for La Salle Steel in Hammond.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Fleming; one son, Jamey Fleming of Hammond, Indiana; one daughter, Lisa Evers of Lowell, Indiana; one granddaughter, Emma Evers; three brothers, Rondell Fleming and Bobby Fleming both of Browder and Joe Fleming of Beech Creek; and two sisters, Wandetta Durall of Madisonville and Jean Smith of Morgantown.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 8, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Beechmont. Burial followed in Union Ridge Cemetery in Belton.
Virgie Ethel McDonald
Greenville - Mrs. Virgie Ethel McDonald, 89, of Greenville died Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. McDonald was born in Todd Countyon October 5, 1912. She retired from the Muhlenberg Community Hospital as a Dietary Worker in 1974 and was a member of Carter Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Sherman Welborn in 1951, second husband, Shelly McDonald in 1966 and her son-in-law, Earl McPherson in 2000.
Survivors include one daughter, Vondell McPherson of Greenville; one granddaughter, Pam Sesnan of Greenville; one grandson, David McPherson of Greenville; foster-grandson, Jason Bradley of Russellville; one great-grandson, Logan Sesnan of Greenville; and one brother, James Howard Lyons of Belton.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 7, 2002 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Reverend Donnie Wilkins officiating. Burial followed in McPherson Cemetery in Todd County.
Dorothy Elizabeth Smith
Greenville - Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Smith, 80, of Greenville died Friday, February 1, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mrs. Smith was born in Greenville on April 20, 1921 to the late Richard and Lula Huggins. She was a housewife and a member of Concord Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by not only her parents but also her husband, Robert V. Smith.
Survivors include two sisters, Bertha Wood of Greenville and Marjorie Dellinger of Harrison, Mi.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 4, 2002 at Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonville with Reverend Ellis Payne officiating. Burial followed in Concord Cemetery in White Plains.
Elizabeth Dillingham Duncan
Madisonville - Mrs. Elizabeth Dillingham Duncan, 86, of Madisonville died Saturday, February 2, 2002 at Owensboro Mercy Health System in Owensboro.
Mrs. Duncan was born in Muhlenberg County on November 22, 1915 to the late Richard Taylor and Lillie Harkins. She was a seamstress and a member of Mt. Carmel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by not only her parents, but also, her husband, Floyd Martin Dillingham and one son, Kenneth Dillingham.
Survivors include one son, Richard Dillingham of Nortonville; two daughters, Pansy Larkins of White Plains and Joan Weaver of Huntsville, Al.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Ruetta C. Durham
Centertown - Mrs. Ruetta C. Durham, 68, of Central City died Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at Owensboro Mercy System in Owensboro.
Mrs. Durham was born in Muhlenberg County and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Durham on July 21, 1995.
Survivors include three sons, Jeffrey Thomas Durham of Madison Height, Mi., Terry Wayne Durham of Island and Anthony Keith Durham of Madison Heights, Mi.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Carl Brandon of Central City and William Howard Brandon of Centertown; and one sister, Marilyn June Tittle of Goshen, In.

Leona Grundy Stewart
Central City - Ms. Leona Grundy Stewart, 101, of Central City died Sunday, February 10, 2002 at Belle Meade Nursing Center in Greenville.
Ms. Stewart was born in Muhlenberg County on March 18, 1900. She was former owner of Stewart’s IGA in Central City. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Central City.
Survivors include one son, Shelby Gene Stewart of Central City; and two grandchildren, Gene Ray Stewart and Ramona Stewart both of Central City.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Bob Lowrey officiating and Reverend W.R. Cook assisting. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.
Gracie Dean Phillips
Bremen - Mrs. Gracie Dean Phillips, 70, of Bremen died Saturday, February 9, 2002 in Long Wood, Florida.
Mrs. Phillips was born in Muhlenberg County on June 15, 1931. She was former owner of Hilltop Ceramic in Rockport, Illinois. She was a member of Calvery Baptist Church in Rockford and a member of tough ceramic classes and enjoyed fishing. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Paula Rainey.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, James Evans Phillips; one son, Joe Phillips of Bremen; two daughters, Debbie King of Long Wood, Florida and Kaye Vick of Bremen; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Darrell Payton and Lindell Payton both of Bremen.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2002at 3 p.m. at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with Reverend J.W. Haire officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery in Bremen.
Staff Sgt. Derrick Lane Buchanan
Beechmont - Staff Sgt. Derrick Lane Buchanan, 31, of Beechmont died Tuesday, January 22, 2002 in Fairfield, Ohio.
Mr. Buchanan was born in Muhlenberg County on June 9, 1970. He was an Air Mechanic for the United States Marine Corps. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Survivors include his father and step mother, Billy and Pam Buchanan of Beechmont; his mother and step father, Donna and Eddie Sumner of Greenville; one half sister, Jenni Shemwell of Greenville; one half brother, Matt Buchanan of Providence; two step sisters, Ashley Reynolds of Beechmont and Karla Pointer of Bremen; his grandparents, Donal and Eva Lee Carver of Greenville; one niece, Erin Shemwell of Greenville; and his fiancé, Dana Russell of Evansville, Indiana.

Syble Hardison Staples
Elkton - Mrs. Syble Hardison Staples, 81, of Elkton died Friday, February 1, 2002 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville of natural causes.
Mrs. Staples was born in Todd County on July 18, 1920 to the late John Miller and Annie Blankenship Hardison. She was retired from Elkton Apparel and Emerson Electric. She was a member of the Emberry Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Rufus Staples in 1994; two sisters, Lola Kelly in 1961 and Gola Sullivan in 1996; and two brothers, Leslie Hardison in 1995 and C.T. Hardison in 1926.
Survivors include one step-son, Dennis Staples of Goodlettsville, Tn.; one step-daughter, Doris Dukes of Central City; one brother, Paul Hardison of South Bend, In.; three sisters, Nola Taylor of Elkton, Glennie Kenner of Sharon Grove and Lennie Davis of South Bend, In.; five step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 4, 2002 at Emberry Church with Reverend Raymond Allen and Reverend Larry Chapman officiating. Burial followed in the Emberry Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth McIntosh
Drakesboro - Ms. Mary Elizabeth McIntosh, 81, of Drakesboro died Thursday, January 31, 2002 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville.
Ms. McIntosh was born in Butler County on February 27, 1920. She was a retired bookkeeper for Furgeson Mant. in St. Louis.
Survivors include one son, Doug McIntosh of McDonough, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Mary McDougall of St. Charles, Missouri; one niece, Molly Shocker of St. Louis; one nephew, Rob of St. Louis; one grand-nephew, Joseph Shocker of St. Louis; and several cousins.

Mary Opal Burden
Cleaton - Ms. Mary Opal Burden, 96, of Cleaton died Saturday, February 2, 2002 at Maple Manor Health Care Center in Greenville.
Ms. Burden was born in Ohio County on August 2, 1905. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ in Central City.
Survivors include one son, Neil Burden of Elizabethtown; one daughter, Carolyn Gaston of Central City; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Billy N. Jenkins
Indianapolis - Mr. Billy N. Jenkins, 57, of Indianapolis, formerly of Penrod, died Friday, January 25, 2002.
Mr. Jenkins was a mailer for 11 years for The Indianapolis Star. He was preceded in death by his father, Vert Jenkins; his mother, Pauline Staples Jenkins; and his sister, Delores Jenkins Maxwell.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce A. McGill Jenkins; children, Teresa A. Shinault, Sandra L. Burton, Angela M. Cox and Darrell R. Jenkins; his step-mother, Eva Dean Wilson Jenkins; his sisters, Sheryl Welch and Patsy Travis; half brothers, Donnie and Steven Jenkins; half sisters, Kathy Benson, Diane Randolph and Darlene Minton; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Survivors include five sons, Neville Ray Staples, William Staples and James Staples, all three of Laporte, Indiana, Oather Staples of Lake Station, Indiana and Bernie Staples of Drakesboro; one daughter, Elizabeth Hall of Chapmanville, West Virginia; one sister, Alice Fulkerson of Central City; one brother, Edward Cardwell of Nortonville; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Bremen - Mrs. Virginia Noffisinger, 89, of Bremen died Tuesday, January 29, 2002 at N.H.C. Healthcare in Madisonville.
Mrs. Noffsinger was born in Muhlenberg County on June 13, 1912 to the late Ruel and Leona Humphrey. She was a clerk at a retail department store. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bremen. She was preceded in death by not only her parents, but also her husband, Robert John Noffsinger and a sister, Louise Humphrey Vincent.
Survivors include one son, Joel Wayne Noffsinger of Sullivan, Ky.; one daughter, Sue Vincent of Madisonville; three grandchildren, Joell Howell, Debbie Harris and Dennis Vincent; two great-grandchildren, Cliff Howell and Chris Howell; and four step-grandchildren.

Greenville - Mr. Wickliffe Lydel Thomas, Jr., 71, of Greenville died Friday, February 1, 2002 near his home in the Nebo Community due to a heart attack.
Mr. Thomas was born in Muhlenberg County on April 20, 1930 and was a retired painter.
Survivors include his wife, Bridget Thomas of Greenville; one daughter, Greshin Steele of Greenville; one step-daughter, Catherine Law of Cleveland, Ohio; two step-sons, Michael Heneghan of Cleveland, Ohio and Owen Heneghan of Suffork, England; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Debbie Johnson of Alabama, Sheila Hehingly of Haleysville, Al. and Marquita Bryant of Alabama; and one brother, Charles Thomas of Henderson.

Louisville - Mr. Charles W. Wilcox, 83, of Louisville died Thursday, January 31, 2002 at Norton Audubon Hospital.
Mr. Wilcox was a retired dozer operator for LO&E, where he worked for 27 years and a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and Shively Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn K. Rickard.
Survivors include his wife, the former Dena B. Carter; one daughter, Judy Burriel; two sisters, Flora Anderson and Helen Mansfield; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and lots of nieces and nephews.

Ruby Gordon Gregory
Greenville - Mrs. Ruby Gordon Gregory, 88, of Greenville died Sunday, February 3, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mrs. Gregory was born in Muhlenberg County on April 24, 1913. She was the last surviving child of nine children. She was a homemaker and a member of Cleaton Baptist Church in Cleaton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Gregory in 1973 and one grandson, John Paul Gregory in 1984.
Survivors include three sons and daughter-in-laws, Billy E. and Verna Gregory of Southington, Cn., Jerry W. and Brenda Gregory of Hobart, In. and Ronald Joe and Gail Gregory of Drakesboro; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend R. D. Mize officiating and Mr. Pat Franklin assisting. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
