Elkton - Mr. Ephriam “Murphy” Petrie Jr., 77, of Elkton died Friday, January 25, 2002 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes.
Mr. Petrie was born in Pennsylvania on June 30, 1924 to the late Ephriam and Martha Jessup Petrie, Sr. He was a retired plumber at Fort Campbell and was a manager of the Pro Shop at the Elk Fork Country Club. He was a member of the Phillips Chapel CME Church and a Kentucky Colonel
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lee Belle Sherrod Petrie; five sons, Robert Mitchell of Mt. Vernon, Il., Curtis Garland Petrie of Indianapolis, In., Ephriam Petrie III of Indianapolis, In., Clarence Clements of Indianapolis, In. and Mark Petrie of Elkton; four daughters, Esther Jenkins of Woodbridge, Va., Vickie Petrie of Elkton, Joyce Rucker of Louisville and Carol Petrie of Elkton; his brother, Girbert Petrie of Indianapolis; one sister, Erma Petrie of Elkton; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at 1 p.m. at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with Reverend Lisa Balboa officiating. Burial will follow in the Elkton Cemetery.
E.C. Jones
BREMEN – E.C. Jones, 74, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006 at Regional Medical Center.
Born in Daviess County March 6, 1931, he was a retired truck driver with Kentucky Reclamation Association and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Smith Jones; three sons, Terry Jones of Hopkinsville, Dennis Jones of Owensboro and Ronnie Payton of Greenville; three daughters, Marilyn Binder of Versailles, Ky., Vonda Adler of Greenville and Kim Wagoner of Madisonville; two sisters, Nancy Campo and Joyce Renfrow, both of Owensboro; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a nephew; a great-nephew and a great-niece.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 22 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Piper and the Rev. Joey Todd officiating.Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery in Bremen.
Howard Lee (H.L.) McIntosh
Howard Lee (H.L.) McIntosh, 76, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 8, 1929, the son of the late Lucian Earl McIntosh and Bessie Mae Skipworth McIntosh, he was a truck driver for McIntosh Wood Products and Greenville Quarries.He was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold McIntosh and the Rev. Freeman McIntosh.
Survivors include three brothers, William McIntosh of Sharon Grove, Norman McIntosh of Greenville and Jewel McIntosh of Jackson, Miss.; a sister, Linda Hatfield of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 18 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Marks and the Rev. Jewell Martin officiating.Burial followed in Olive Grove Cemetery in Rosewood.
Mearl Smith
BELTON – Mearl Smith, 79, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Feb. 2, 1926, he was a coal miner and a United States Army veteran.He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Gail Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Brumley Smith; three sons, Mitchell Clay Smith of Beechmont, Nathan Earl Smith of Central City and Donald Ray Smith of Central City; two daughters, Rhonda Jean Smith and Patricia Gay Heltsley, both of Belton; a sister, Emelda Reynolds of Browder; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 19 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home.Burial followed in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Dunmor.
Thomas Robert King
Thomas Robert King, 64, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville from heart disease and diabetes.
Born in Milwaukee, Wis. March 22, 1941, the son of the late Montgomery and Lorene King, he was a retired truck driver for Thomas Heavy Haulers in Madisonville.He had also worked at Alston #4 mine in Centertown and was a bus driver for Milwaukee Transportation.He was a member of the Teamsters, UMWA and AFL-CIO unions.He was a member of the Nelson Creek Pentecostal Church, where he loved his church family.He enjoyed fishing, hunting and restoring antique cars.Most of all he loved his family and they dearly loved him.He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Florence Segers; his father-in-law, Ed Segers and a sister, Shirley King.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Eva Joe Segers King; five sons, Tom (Latricia) King of Bremen, Tony (Lina) King of Hartford, Todd (Susan) King of Greenville, Tim (Shannon) King of Lexington and Terry (Kaye) King of Central City; 10 grandchildren, Joshua, Crystal, Matthew, Justin, Michael, Zack, Shelby, Kristen, Hannah and Luke King; a brother, Bill King of Dousman, Wis.; three sisters-in-law, Anita Douglas, June and Gordon McRoy and Sandra and Richard Johnson; four brothers-in-law, Jimmie Ed Segers, John and Barb Segers, Kenny and Sissy Segers and David and Becky Segers.

Linda Ann Pierce
ISLAND – Linda Ann Pierce, 58, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ surrounded by family and friends, Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006 at Owensboro Medical Health System after a short illness.
Born in Barren County May 10, 1947, she was a homemaker and member of Church Street General Baptist Church in Bremen.She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Stringer.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Wayne “Bobby” Pierce, Sr.; a son, Robert (Jaunna) Pierce, Jr. of Sacramento; a daughter, Barbara (Junior) Oglesby of Powderly; her mother, Helen Stringer of Island; two brothers, John Stringer of Clarksville, Tenn. and Kenny Stringer of Crestwood, Ky.; a sister, Lorena Davis of Island and six grandchildren.

Gladys Lucille Gossett
GREENVILLE – Gladys Lucille Gossett, 90, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006 in the Maple Manor Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Muhlenberg County July 20, 1915, the daughter of the late Charlie Dan Stone and Mary Maude Jarvis Stone, she was a member of New Cypress Baptist Church and was a homemaker.She was preceded in death by her first husband, Pascal Stobaugh in 1957 and her second husband, Herbert M. Gossett in 1993.
Survivors include a daughter, Delta (Ted) Stewart of Greenville; a son, Leon Stobaugh of Chicago; a step son, Herbert Gossett of Chicago; two sisters, Mae Bell Stone of Greenville and Mary Clark of Owensboro; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Jan. 23 at New Cypress Cemetery in Greenville with the Rev. R.D. Mize officiating. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Bonnie Pearson
ELKTON – Bonnie Pearson, 63, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville of natural causes.
Born in Owensboro Dec. 20, 1942, the daughter of the late Russell and Louise Parker Shadwick, she worked at Latham Funeral Home from 1962 to present and was co-owner of Something Special.She was a very active member of Elkton Baptist Church where she was in the choir and served on numerous committees.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Wayne L. Pearson; two daughters, Kim (Lance) Noffsinger of Goodlettsville, Tenn. and Kara (Chris) Ezell of Clarksville, Tenn.; a brother, Larry Shadwick of Lakeland, Fla. and four grandchildren.

POWDERLY – Nora Mae Dukes, 85, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 17, 1920, she was a homemaker and a member of Mercer Baptist Church in Powderly.She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Dukes.
Survivors include two daughters, Anna Sue (James) Eaves of Bremen and Freda Mae (Darrel Randel) Covington of Belton; two sons, Darris Joe (Brenda) Dukes of Powderly and Darrell Wayne (Patricia) Dukes of Bremen; a brother, J.D. Plyles of Alabama; two sisters, Margie Jarvis of Central City and Mary Magaline Roberts of Owensboro; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Frederick Otis Collier
OWENSBORO – Frederick Otis Collier, 65, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006 at his residence after a sudden illness.
Born in Louisville Dec. 7, 1940, the son of Silas Otis Collier and Augusta Jeanette Porter Collier, he was of the Baptist faith.He retired Dec. 7, 2000 as Lieutenant Colonel in the Army after 36 years, serving in Germany and Vietnam.He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his mother, Augusta Collier of Owensboro; two sons, Frederick Lowe Collier and Lewis Erwin Collier, both of Monticello, Ark.; a sister, Chloe Collier of Owensboro; a granddaughter; three nephews and a niece.

Ruth Wells Oates
GREENVILLE – Ruth Wells Oates, 85, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006 in the Belle Meade Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Born in White Plains April 28, 1920, the daughter of the late George Anthony Wells and Ada Pearl Fox Wells, she was a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville.She worked at a dental office as an assistant and at Taylor Drug Store in Louisville for 15 years as a pharmacy assistant.She was preceded in death by her husband, Washington Columbus “W.C.” Oates in 2004 and a son, B.W. Oates in 2005.
Survivors include two grandsons, Brian Oates of Bexley, Ohio and Matt Oates of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Pam Oates of Renyoldsburg, Ohio; three sisters, Louise Shannon of Greenville, Lorene Odom of Seminole, Fla. and Helen Bowers of Louisville; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

GREENVILLE - Charlie Dukes, 89, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Oct. 3, 1915, the son of the late Tom Dukes and Belle Bryant Dukes, he was a farmer and a member of Lone Star General Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Micheal Dukes, five brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Helen Dukes; six children, Oscar Dukes, Agnes Dukes, Larry Dukes, Debra Scarbrough and Howard Dukes, all of Greenville and Charles Dukes of Tell City, Ind.; a brother, Brank Dukes of Madisonville; 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

Margaret H. Berry Moore
Margaret H. Berry Moore, 79, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 24, 1925 to the late Captola Nalley Berry and John Berry, she was retired from Legon Trucking and was a demonstrator at Wal-Mart in Central City. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and watching TV. She was a member of the Central City Business and Professional Women’s Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and First Baptist Church in Central City.
Survivors include a daughter, Anne Moore Bunch of Central City; two sisters, Mary Ruth Berry and Anna (Hayden) McDonald, both of Central City; two brothers, John Berry and Damon (June) Berry, both of Central City; two grandchildren, Jenny Bunch and Scott (Jenny L.) Bunch; three great-grandchildren, Kennedy Bunch, Kamden Bunch and Zaiden Walden.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Dec. 28 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Lowery officiating. Burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.
Leamon A. Ray
Leamon A. Ray, 72, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Sept. 21, 1932, he was a retired bank president and a member of First Baptist Church in Central City. He was a graduate of the Bowling Green Business College, class of 1958. He later worked as a CPA in Louisville and then as a CPA in Central City from 1961-1967. From 1967 until his retirement in 1994, he served as president of Citizens Union Bank in Central City. He was past president of the Central City Lions Club, past president of the Central City Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Central City Country Club. He was also a former Muhlenberg County treasurer and he served on the Muhlenberg Community Hospital Board for 35 years.
Survivors include his wife, Bettye Roark Ray; two sons, John (Lou) Ray of Owensboro and Scott (Diane) Ray of Central City; four grandchildren, Andrew, Alex, Seth and Hunter Ray.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 29 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Lowery officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Winford Ramsey
SACRAMENTO - Winford Ramsey, 91, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at his residence.
Born in Todd County, Dec. 12, 1913, he was a retired self-employed auto body repairman and a member of Powers Chapel General Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Ramsey; a son, James C. Ramsey of Chesterton, Ind.; a daughter, Ramona Neihardt of Chesterton; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

J. W. Gish
J. W. Gish, 91, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Dec. 31, 1912 he was a service manager for Lester Motors in Central City, Parkway Ford in Madisonville and a member of New Harmony Baptist Church in Bremen.
Survivors include his wife, Willa Dean Rhoades Gish; three daughters, Anna Dean Hibbs of Madisonville, Linda Kay Jarvis of Mt. Washington and Betty Jean White of Greenville; a brother, William Gish of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; one step-grandson; four great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren.

Louise White, 65, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Jan. 26, 1939 to the late James and Eva Jean Edwards, she was a homemaker and a member of Woodson Missionary Baptist Church in Powderly. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Epley.
Survivors include her husband, Bill White; a daughter, Tally Shaw of Orlando, Fla.; a step-son, Timothy White of Bremen; three brothers, J. D. Edwards, Ralph Edwards and Roger Edwards; four sisters, Emma Johnson, Sue Mohon, Sandra Devine and Carolyn Peveler; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

GREENVILLE – Mattie Lee Weatherford, 73, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005 at Belle Meade Nursing Home after a short illness.
Born in Key West, Fla. April 9, 1932, the daughter of the late Edward Weatherford and Mattie Bates Weatherford, she was of the Baptist faith and retired from Norton Air Force in San Bernadino, Calif. in 1993 after 35 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Victoria (Steve) Watkins of Greenville; two granddaughters, Crystal Watkins and Brandy Watkins, both of Roy, Utah and a sister, Anna LeClair of Hayden Lake, Idaho.

George Yuel Dukes
CLEATON – George Yuel Dukes, 81, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005 at Maple Manor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 16, 1924, he was the son of the late George A. and Virginia Dukes. He was retired from Universal Oil Products in McCook, Ill., a member of V.F.W. in Greenville and Briar Creek Presbyterian Church and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a son, David Yuel Dukes; twin brother, Lewis Buell Dukes; two other brothers, Connis “Whitey” Dukes and Jackie Dukes; two sisters, Dorothy Nell Hawkins and Francis Isabelle Camplain.
Survivors include his wife, Florence (Flo Boyd) M. Dukes; a son, Randall H. (Susan) Dukes of Central City; three daughters, Linda Jeanne Dukes of Berwyn, Ill., Susan (Allen) Truhlar of Plainfield, Ill. and Kathryn (Mark) Whiston of Cicero, Ill.; six brothers, Bill J.
