Born in Muhlenberg County, Oct. 13, 1908, the daughter of the late Lewis Banks Allen and Nannie Craig Allen, she was a homemaker and a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville.She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Henry Woodson in 1975.
Survivors include two sons, Keith Woodson of Greenville and Tom Woodson of Salem, W.V.; three daughters, Jane Jessup of Greenville, Bobbie Brown of Central City and Rejeana Bradford of Crestwood; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Dec. 17 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Dr. Ray England officiating.Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery in Greenville.

Iris E. Givens
BROWDER - Iris E. Givens, 89, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Dec. 5, 1915, she was retired from the U.S. Navy and a member of Browder Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Givens of Browder; a sister, Ertus Givens of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Dec. 17 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Eugene Cathy officiating.Burial followed in Union Cemetery in Butler County.
Mabel Agassiz Wescott Martin
VERO BEACH, FLA. - Mabel Agassiz Wescott Martin, 99, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004 in Vero Beach, Florida.
Born on the Outer Banks of North Carolina near the Corolla Lighthouse, Feb. 27, 1905, the daughter of the late Martha Ann Chadwick Wescott and Captain John Thomas Wescott, she was home schooled by her mother until high school, which she attended in Raleigh, N.C.At age 16, she enrolled in Trinity College, which is now Duke University, as an elementary education major.She was a class beauty and a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.She spent summers at Lake Junaluska where her parents owned and operated The Cherokee Inn.In 1924 she married George Ross Martin of Greenville who preceded her in death in 1977.She spent most of her life in Greenville and Daytona Beach, Fla.She was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.At age 96, she moved to the warm climate of Vero Beach where she continued to be known for her gracious manner and sharp sense of humor.She was a member of Greenville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four children; Ann Martin and Jack Forsythe, Elizabeth Martin, Anne Dunn and George R. Martin, Jr., Mary Martin and James L. Rogers III; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

GREENVILLE - Mary Lillian Briles Gossett, 86, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 1, 1918, the daughter of the late A.C. Briles and Neil Cornelia Arnett Briles, she was a lifetime member of Corley Chapel General Baptist Church.She retired in 1979 from F.H. Lewis Clothing Store after 25 years, was a 50-year member of Madeline Chapter of Eastern Star and a Kentucky Colonel.She was preceded in death by her husband, James Everly Gossett in 1979.
Survivors include a daughter, Lou (Charles) Courtney of Greenville; a sister, Bonnie Noe of Graham; two grandchildren, Chuck Courtney of Greenville and Lynn (Joey) Henderson of Mayfield; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

LEWISBURG - Cecil Stevens, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a short illness.
Born in Elliott County, Oct. 22, 1919, the son of the late John W. Stevens and Rissie Hill Stevens, he was a farmer and a member of Clifty Hill Baptist Church in Lewisburg.He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lennie Odeleen Stevens Sept. 26, 2004 and a son, Arvin Randall Stevens Aug. 18, 1962.
Survivors include seven sons; Norman Stevens of Franklin, Bernis Stevens of Clifty, Danny Stevens of Central City, Joe Stevens of Elkton, Donnie Stevens of Cadiz, Billy Stevens of Robards and Dorris Stevens of Lewisburg; two daughters, Carolyn Moore of Lewisburg and Brenda Vaught of Madisonville; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and eight step great-grandchildren.

GREENVILLE - Robert Lewis Morehead, 64, died Saturday, Dec. 18 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital Emergency Room.
Born in Muhlenberg County, March 25, 1940, the son of the late Iola Mae Robinson Gibson, he was of Baptist faith and a veteran.He retired in 2002 after 22 years as a custodian for the Muhlenberg County Board of Education and worked for Peabody Coal Company Austin #4 in Centertown for 10 years.He was an E.M.T. and a volunteer fireman in the 1980s.He worked for Marvel Industries and SuperValu.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Marva Jean Prude Morehead; two daughters, Bridget Adams and Tiffany Morehead, both of Greenville; two sons, Robert O. Morehead and Aaron Morehead, both of Greenville; and five grandchildren, Brittany Wells, Seth Burns, Sierra Burns, Gabrielle Burns and Baylan Adams.

BELTON - Phillip Poyner Baker, 86, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Oct. 9, 1918, he was a retired farmer and county road worker.He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Christine Baker Oct. 20, 2004; five sisters, Bonnie J. Baker, Lena Mallory, Neva Mae Duvall, Mary Frances Duvall and Corrina Lambert; three brothers, Harold Baker, Dennis Baker and Charlie Baker, Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Amanda LeAnn Whitmer.

Born in Muhlenberg County, March 6, 1921, the son of the late Will Pittman and Myrtle Rich, he was a retired custodian at Bremen Elementary School for the Muhlenberg County Board of Education and a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Pittman of Bremen and Susan Harlan of Central City; and three grandchildren.

Brandon Lee Spicer
LEWISBURG - Brandon Lee Spicer, 34, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004 as the result of an accident at Mud River Bridge on Coopertown Road in Lewisburg that also claimed the life of his son, John Gregory Spicer.
Born in Kettering, Ohio, Aug. 20, 1970, he was a truck driver for Ray Jones Trucking in Greenville.

GREENVILLE – Evelyn Marie Bivins, 89, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born in the Greens Chapel Community July 17, 1916, the daughter of the late Paul and Virdie Putnam, Marie, as her friends called her, later lived in Central City and graduated from Central City High School in 1936.She and her husband, the late R.E. (Ras) Bivins, lived much of their life in Central City.Their two children, Ken Bivins of Madisonville and Jan (Bivins) Anderson of Greenville, grew up and also graduated from Central City High School. Through the years, Ras and Marie owned and operated several businesses, including the R&G Building Supply Co., the Rambler Rose Motel, the Royal Palms Restaurant and the A-Bo-K Florist.They were members of Central City First Baptist Church.In 1963 they owned and operated the Imperial Restaurant and the Exotic Florist in Madisonville.They remained there until 1981 when they returned to their roots in Muhlenberg County.In Greenville they were members of First Baptist Church.She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991 and a sister, Delores Hale.
Survivors include a son, Ken (Pat) Bivins of Madisonville; a daughter, Jan (H.L.) Anderson of Greenville; three grandchildren, Eric (Diana) Anderson and Amy (Chad) Hadley, all of Greenville and Aaron (Maureen) Anderson of Franklin, Tenn.; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Devine of Central City; and long-time caregivers and companions, Gina Rector, Marie Vincent, Dorothy Bey and Patsy Nelson.

Born in Muhlenberg County May 31, 1947, the son of Ann Wilson and the late Shelby Wilson, he was a sawmill maintenance foreman for Baize Forest and a Vietnam Veteran.He was preceded in death by his father in 1985 and a sister, Becky Harper.

Virginia Evitts Hoover, 87, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County May 22, 1918, the daughter of the late Major Whitson Evitts and Ethel Mansfield Evitts, she was retired from the Western Kentucky Gas Company in Owensboro and was a member of Centertown Baptist Church.She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hoover; seven brothers, Melvin Evitts, Edgar Evitts, Bennett Evitts, Homer Evitts, M.W. Evitts, Marvin Evitts, Milton Evitts and Roy Evitts and a sister, Ethel Evitts.
Survivors include three stepdaughters, Judy Hinton of Livermore and Linda Harrison and Sandy Frazier of Owensboro; a sister-in-law, Inez Evitts of Greenville and four nieces, Wilma Ramage of Taylor, Mich., Linda Cook of Lewisburg, Sue Scott of Nashville and Rita Milic of St. Louis.
