Mrs. Riley was born in Muhlenberg County on May 4, 1942 to the late Ray and Cora Lea Vincent Hobgood. She was a homemaker and a member of Station Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by not only her parents, but also one brother, John Hobgood.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Austin Lee Riley; three daughters, Tharesa Burton of Lawrenceburg, Regina Shepherd of Sacramento and Sandra Riley of Bremen; two brothers, Robert Hobgood of Bremen and Terry Hobgood of Greenville; five sisters, Janet McElroy of Bremen, Jonell Dean of Powderly, Judy Rickard of Sacramento, Sheila Neal of South Carrolton and Sherry Galloway of Sacramento; and four grandchildren, Amanda Humphrey and Adam, Andrew and Ashley Burton.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 20, 2002 at Tucker Memorial Chapel with Reverend Arnold Roberts officiating and Leslie Moody, Jr. assisting. Burial followed at Station Baptist Cemetery in Sacramento.
Mary Lillian Rager
Drakesboro - Mrs. Mary Lillian Rager, 78, of Drakesboro died Sunday, January 20, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mrs. Rager was born in Muhlenberg County on May 2, 1923. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Jane Rager and Patricia Mohnen and husband, Jerry, all of Drakesboro; four grandchildren, Jason, Jessie, Joshua and Rebecca; and one great-grandchild, James.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home with Reverend R.D. Mize officiating. Burial followed in Ebenezer Cemetery.
Jack Ferguson
Central City - Mr. Jack Ferguson, 89, of Central City died Saturday, January 19, 2002 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.
Mr. Ferguson was born in Monroe County on April 6, 1912. He was a self-employed truck driver and a member of the Church of Christ. He was also a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include one son, Leon Ferguson of Union, Ky. and one grandson, Mark David Ferguson.
Graveside services wereheld Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green.
Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
Reverend Clarence James Gray
Greenville - Reverend Clarence James Gray, 69, of Greenville died Friday, January 18, 2002 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana following several months of illness.
Reverend Gray was born in Muhlenberg County on April 7, 1932. He was a retired saw mill worker and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Ella Mae Gray of Greenville; two daughters, Mrs. Teresa Knight and Miss Rita Gray both of Greenville; one son, Mr. Tim Gray of Greenville; three grandchildren, Marika Gray, Jeremy Gray and Jordan Gray, all of Greenville; three sisters, Mrs. Hilda Williams, Mrs. Birtha Cobb and Mrs. Joyce Clark all of Greenville; and one brother, Mr. Harold D. Gray of Greenville.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 21, 2002 at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with Reverend Richard Day officiating and Reverend Wayne Rice assisting. Burial followed in Lee Hill Cemetery in Depoy.
Marilyn Rowena Robinson
Beechmont - Ms. Marilyn Rowena Robinson, 44, of Beechmont died Friday, January 18, 2002 at Boswell Regional Health Center in Sedalla, Missouri.
Ms. Robinson was born in Butler County on September 17, 1957 to Ray Southerland (deceased) and Bell Gobbett Southerland. She was employed by Guard Mark at Logan Aluminum. She was a member of Monticello Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by one brother, Douglas Southerland.
Survivors include one daughter, Amy Jo Hardison of Beechmont; her mother, Bell G. Southerland of Rochester; four sisters, Isabell Givens and Irene Smith of Morgantown and Brenda Williams of Penrod and Linda Peay of Rochester; three brothers, Raymond Southerland and Junior Southerland of Rochester and Billy Ray Southerland Morgantown.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 21, 2002 at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Morgantown. Burial followed in Rochester Cemetery in Rochester.
Sherry Dean Vick
SPRINGFIELD, TENN. - Sherry Dean Vick, 56, formerly of Muhlenberg County, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at her residence.
Born in Detroit, Mich., March 4, 1947, she was a machinist with IBP in Goodlettsville and of Baptist faith.She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Hayes Pile.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Vick, Jr.; three sons, Joseph (Juanita) Crawley of New Port Richie, Fla., Mike (Kelly) Robinson and David Ray Vick, both of Springfield; a daughter, Paula (James) Redfern of Springfield; her father, Chester Crawley of Scottsville, Ky.; a brother, Roger Crawley of Springfield; six grandchildren, Amber Slides, Dakota Crawley, Michael Crawley, Matthew Pointer, Joseph Pointer and Stevie Redfern; and one great-grandchild, Andrew Crawley.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Dec. 5 in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with the Rev. Mickey Austin officiating.Burial followed in Memorial Gardens in Springfield, Tenn.
Connis Darrell Dukes
GREENVILLE - Connis Darrell Dukes, 81, died Sunday, Dec 7, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 24, 1922, the son of James Dukes and Beulah Wilcox, he was a self-employed R.V. dealer in Austin, Texas.
Survivors include a son, Mike Dukes of Columbia, S.C.; a daughter, Deborah Chesney of Columbia, S.C.; three sisters, Wanda Harbin, Glenda Dukes and Joy Shulte; and three grandchildren.

Paul Lee Mefford
GREENVILLE - Paul Lee Mefford, 28, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
Born in Chicago, Ill., April 15, 1975, he was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include two sons, Jacob and Jordan Mefford, both of Paducah; his father, Roger Mefford, Sr. of Greenville; and two brothers, Roger Mefford, Jr. of Central City and Mike Mefford of South Carrollton.

Melvin R. McPherson
CHICAGO, ILL. - Melvin R. McPherson, 76, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003 in Niles, Illinois.
Born in Muhlenberg County, June 19, 1927, he was retired from Switchcraft, Inc. of Chicago after 35 years of service and honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1953.He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Carr McPherson and daughter, Patty Faye McPherson.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy (Tim) Sweeton of Glenview, Ill.; a son, Gary McPherson of Kentucky; a step-daughter, JoAnn (Bob) McPherson of Merriville, Ind.; five step-sons, Don (Nancy) Hogan of Stewart, Fla., David R. Hogan of Jensen Beach, Fla., Roy Hogan, Jimmy Hogan and Tony Hogan, all of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Robert McPherson of Merriville, Ind.; a step-sister, Joyce McPherson George of Smithfield, Tenn.; a step-brother, Jerry McPherson of Smithfield, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

NEWBURGH, IND. - Dorothy Tucker, 86, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003 at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She attended Heritage Baptist Church in Evansville.She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Forest Tucker in 1977; her parents, Theron and Della Dorris; two brothers, James Dorris and Lee Andrew Dorris; and two sisters, Leota Dukes and Margaret Boyd.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda C. (Randall) Heath of Newburgh, Ind.; two sisters, Louise Tolbert of Dunmor and Lola Coe of Henderson; two brothers, Charles Dorris of Dunmor and Freeman Dorris of Bowling Green; a granddaughter, Jennifer Heath Giannini of Newburgh, Ind.; a grandson, Steven Heath of Pensacola, Fla.; two great-grandsons, Adam Heath and Trevor Heath of Pensacola, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

GREENVILLE - Edgar L. Jessup, 91, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003 at Maple Manor Healthcare in Greenville after several months of illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Aug. 30, 1912, to the late Roy Alexander Jessup and Mercy Ann Millett Jessup, he was a retired farmer and a service station operator, as well as a member of Greens Chapel General Baptist Church.He was preceded in death by his wife, Loyce Latham Jessup in 1993.
Survivors include a son, Gordon Jessup; three grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.

Rita Mae Jewell
Rita Mae Jewell, 73, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, July 11, 1931, she was retired from both GE and York Companies.She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Lee “Cussie” Jewell.
Survivors include a son, Lessie Lee (Joanie) Jewell of South Carrollton; a sister, Gert Wieczorek of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Frank Nowicki of Swanton, Ohio; and a grandson, Joshua Ray Jewell of South Carrollton.

ISLAND - Mark Lyn Hoagland, 49, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 at Oakwood Communities in Somerset, Ky.
Born in Owensboro, Aug. 11, 1954, to Emory and Marilyn Hoagland, he was a member of Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Church.He was preceded in death by a sister, Nita Jean Hoagland.
Survivors include two brothers, Stephen Hoagland of Madisonville and Emory “Chip” Hoagland, Jr. of Sacramento; a sister, Sharon Gail Hoagland of Somerset; three nephews, a niece and a great-niece.

ELKTON - James Earl “Pops” Wilson, 66, formerly of Tucson, Ariz., died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 at his residence of natural causes.
Born in Todd County, Nov. 20, 1937, to the late Robert Earl and Tiny Wilson, he operated dump trucks in the Tucson, Ariz. area and was a member of the Tucson Tabernacle.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Edwards Wilson; a son, Richard Earl Wilson of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Penny Jo Fox of Tucson; three brothers, Layton Wilson of Tucson, Oscar Wilson of Tipton, Iowa and Steven Wilson of Armstrong, British Columbia; five sisters, Bess Rager of Tucson, Rachel Jones of Cleveland, Ohio, Nancy Laster, Lillian Case and Mildred Wilson, all of Elkton; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Born in Todd County, July 21, 1915, to the late Samuel and Mide Frances Deason Mitchell, he was a farmer, a veteran of World War II, and a member of Emberry Church.He was preceded in death by his wife, Jonell Sigers Mitchell in 1971 and a son, Jimmy Darrell Mitchell in 1951.
Survivors include four sons, Ronnie Mitchell of Lewisburg, Jimmy, Bobby and Larry Mitchell, all of Kirkmansville; four daughters, Frances Skipworth of Lewisburg, Carolyn Empson of Trenton, Ky., Margie Wilson of Kirkmansville and Elwanda Blake of Hopkinsville; a stepdaughter, Faye Allen of Hopkinsville; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

Born in Todd County, June 8, 1913, to the late James and Minnie Davis Deason, she was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.She was preceded in death by her husband, Gennie Noel Tucker in 1966.
Survivors include a son, Gilbert Tucker of Allegre; a daughter, Linda Willis of Kirkmansville; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

George “Bud” Robert Barnett
HARTFORD - George “Bud” Robert Barnett, 79, of Hartford died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002 at Beaver Dam Health Care Manor.
Born Nov. 9, 1923 in Winslow, Ind., the son of Horace and Mildred Hurst Barnett, he retired from Peabody Coal Co., Alston Surface Mine, where he worked for 39-1/2 years. He was a member of Hartford United Methodist Church and UMWA Local 9800. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his spouse Kathleen Elizabeth Powers Barnett; one son, Stan Robert Barnett; one daughter, Gloria Lynn Bullard of Owensboro; and one granddaughter, Shannon Barnett.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 12 at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
