Born June 28, 1945 in Todd County, he was the son of Arvil Edgar Dukes and Martha Lou Strong Dukes. He was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church and was preceded in death by one son, Donnie Dukes in 1996.
He is survived by his wife of six years, Beverly Jane Ramsey Dukes, of Greenville; one son, Jeffery L. Dukes of Central City; three daughters, Patricia S. Parsons of Graham, Carolyn A. Lewellen of Moorman and Keisha Jones of Central City; nine grandchildren; three stepsons, Billy Jones of Central City, Kenny Robertson of Mortons Gap and Aaron Robertson of Weir; three stepdaughters, Teresa Zellers of Greenville, Dawn R. Jones and Lisa Jones, both of Central City; one sister, Ethel Weeks of Greenville; seven brothers, Melvin R. Dukes, Dale Dukes, Garry Dukes and Terry Dukes, all of Greenville, David Dukes of Rumsey, Glendel Page of Ridgely, Tenn. and Raymond Page of Cleaton.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 29, at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Shanks officiating. Burial followed in Landmark Cemetery in Weir. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
John Douglas Vincent
GREENVILLE - John Douglas Vincent, 60, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Born Sept. 28, 1942 in Muhlenberg County, he was the son of James Rufus Vincent and Dovie Evitts Vincent. He worked for several mines in Muhlenberg County as a mechanic and was a member of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lindell Vincent.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nancy Stobaugh Vincent of Greenville; two sons, James Douglas Vincentand Michael Loran (Theresa) Vincent, both of Louisville; one daughter, Sandra Vincent (Mark) Ferguson of Bremen; four sisters,Freda Fowler of Graham, Wanda Browning, Lonell Key and June Green, all of Greenville; and one brother, Houston Vincent of Central City.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 29, at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerald Jones officiating. Burial followed in Old Bethel Cemetery in Greenville.Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Green River Hospice. Timothy Wayne Phillips
BREMEN - Timothy Wayne Phillips, 43, of Bremen, died Nov. 27, 2002 in Central City.
Born January 23, 1959 in Hopkins County, he was self-employed.
Survivors include one brother, Terry Phillips of Bremen; one sister, Debbie Jones of Mortons Gap and two nieces.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 30, at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with the Rev. Joe Vaught officiating. Burial followed in Olive Branch Cemetery in Hanson. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Doris Jean Holland McCormick
GREENVILLE - Doris Jean Holland McCormick, 66, of Greenville, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born March 1, 1936, she was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald J. McCormick; one son, Lloyd Smith, Jr.; and two brothers, Texal and Jewell Holland.
She is survived by three sons, David H. Smith of Greenville, Mark Smith and John P. Smith, both of Central City; four daughters, Georgetta Byrd of Henderson, Tammy McCormick of Greenville, Gayla Freels and Beverly(Harschell) Tinkle, both of Central City; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jerry Holland of Greenville, Ricky Holland, Jimmy Holland and Billy Holland, all of Central City; four sisters, Brenda Schimpf of Pompano Beach, Fla., Debbie Jones, Ann Mullins and Shirle Bryant, all of Central City.

Lloyd “Buddy” Ray Groves
GRAHAM - Lloyd “Buddy” Ray Groves, 54, of Graham, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at his residence.
Born Sept. 23, 1948 in Muhlenberg County, he was employed at Clark’s Appliance & Tire Center as a delivery person.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Whitfield Groves; two sons, Lloyd Groves, Jr., of Greenville and Andy Groves of Sacramento; two daughters, Wendy Pillow of Owensboro and Julie Noffsinger of Greenville; four grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; two brothers, Ricky Groves of Greenville and James Groves of Graham; five sisters, Beck Peyton of Central City, Martha Taylor of Ala., Lavonne Jones of Greenville, Donna Gibson of Nortonville and Ursley Groves of Belton.

Rita Faye Callahan
GREENVILLE - Rita Faye Callahan, 42, of Greenville, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born April 27, 1960, she was a homemaker and attended Beechcreek Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her father, William Marshall Hunt and her mother, Ellvenia Arnold Hunt.
She is survived by her husband, David Callahan of Greenville; one daughter, Laura Beth Callahan of Greenville; two sons, Timmy Callahan of Drakesboro and Adam Slinker of Greenville; one sister, Wanda Buchannon of Dunmor and one brother, Ray Hunt of Greenville and three grandchildren.

L. C. McLevain, Jr.
POWDERLY - L. C. McLevain, 37, of Powderly, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002 in Paducah.
Born Feb. 26, 1965 in Cook County, Ill., he was preceded in death by his father, L. C. McLevain, Sr., in 1970.
He is survived by his mother and step father, Mary “Reed” and Irvin Wester of Beechmont; two sons, Bill (Nichole) McLevain of Russellville and Ben McLevain of Lewisburg; one grandson, Skylar Alexzander McLevain; six sisters, Cathy (Brinkley) King, Debbie (Mike) Dixon of Danville, Margie Evitts and Rose (Terry) Spears, both of Greenville, Ramona (Tim) Johnson and Mary (Bruce) DeArmond, both of Beechmont; 27 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

Jewell Lloyd Groves
GREENVILLE - Jewell Lloyd Groves, 71, of Greenville, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002 at his residence.
Born February 18, 1931 in Muhlenberg County, hewas a farmer and attended Freedom General Baptist Church in Greenville. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Greenville and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his spouse, Doris Pope Groves; one son, Jeff Groves of Greenville; one daughter, Sherry Peterson of Greenville; four grandchildren, Heather Renea Groves, Holly Nichole Groves, Jason Peterson and Jeremy Peterson; one great grandchild, Kendra Peterson; parents, Arthur and Anna Mae Groves of Greenville; three brothers, Arthur Groves, Jr. and James Daniel Groves, both of Greenville and Billy Ray Groves of Plano, Ky.; two sisters, Nellie Jane Beasley and Linda Piper, both of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

Vance Cartwright
BROWDER - Vance Cartwright, 87, of Browder, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born June 30, 1915 in Butler County, he was a farmer. He was a veteran, having served in the U. S. Army.
He is survived by one daughter, Della (Reggie) Roberson of Browder; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Cora Fleming of Belton and Ivy Barbee of Arizona.

Austin Ray “Mack” Cornelius
GREENVILLE - Austin Ray “Mack” Cornelius, 71, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born December 11, 1930, he worked in the tire industry as a service man. He was a member of New Cypress Baptist Church and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Vick Cornelius; one son, Bruce Cornelius of Greenville; one daughter, Regina Bowers of Greenville; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers, Bill Cornelius and Bob Cornelius, both of Lewisburg and one sister, Wilma Yates of White Plains.
Funeral services were held Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Jeff Noffsinger officiating. Burial followed in New Cypress Cemetery. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Clifford Elwood Pendley
LEWISBURG - Clifford Elwood Pendley, 77, of Lewisburg died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville after a short illness.
Born March 29, 1925 in Muhlenberg County, the son of Lester E. Pendley and Mary Magdaline McPherson Pendley, he was a building contractor for many years and recently retired as Assistant Manager for Stewart IGA Foodliners in Greenville and Central City. He was a member of Carter Creek Missionary Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge #673 of Central City. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Marine Corp.. He was preceded in death by his parents, bsrother, John Smith Pendley and sisters, Dorothy Simms and Nancy Hankins.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Verlie Jones Pendley of Lewisburg; two daughters, Chauncia (Bill) Vincent and Carolyn (David) Shelton, both of Greenville; five sons, Eldon Thomas (Carolyn) Pendley and John Mark (Kim) Pendley, both of Greenville, Donnie (Brenda) Pendley of Lewisburg, Wilborn (Joy) Pendley of Central City and David Allen (Toni) Pendley of Somerset; 13 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two sisters, Josie (Lewis) Crick and Faye Newman, both of Greenville.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 3 from 5 - 9 p.m. at Gary’s Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 11:00 a.m., also at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with the Revs. Ray England, Kevin Burden and Guy Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in Carter Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital. Glenn Koonce Blackburn, Sr.
SCOTTSBORO, ALA. - Glenn Koonce Blackburn, Sr., 80, of Scottsboro, Ala., died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 at his residence.
A TVA Construction Superintendent, he was instrumental in the construction of Paradise Steam Plant in Muhlenberg County as well asWidow’s Creek Steam Plant in Gallatin, Tenn., Cumberland Steam Plant, Nickajack Dam, Tim’s Ford Dam Bellefonte Nuclear Plant. He retired from TVA after 34 years due to health problems. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Phillipines from 1944 to 1946. He was a Chief Petty Officer on a P. T. Tender during his service. Memberships include BroadStreet Church of Christ in Scottsboro, Ala., Florence Lodge 14 & A.M., Nashville Scottish Rite Lodge, IBEW Local 558 in Sheffield, Ala., TVA Retirees Association and he was an Honorary Kentucky Colonel, American Legion. Mr. Blackburn was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel Koonce Blackburn and Roy Turner Blackburn of Florence and one sister, Carlyne McMurry of Roanoke, Ala.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Edith Broadfoot Blackburn of Scottsboro; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Glenn K. and Joyce Blackburn, Jr., of Somerset, Ky.; daughter and son-in-law, Beth B. and David Winchester, Sr., of Scottsboro; eight grandchildren; and one sister, Katheleen B. White of Florence.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 6 - 9 p.m. at Rudder Funeral Home in Scottsboro. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Rudder Funeral Home Chapel. Survivors include a son, Tildon Smith of Drakesboro; three daughters, Connie Jones of Beech Creek, Brenda Smith of Belton, and Jackie Penrod of Drakesboro; two brothers, James Earl Eaves and Rondel Eaves, both of Bremen; two sisters, Dean Gavens and Edna Eaves; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Jacqueline “Jackie” France
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, IND. - Jacqueline “Jackie” France, 66, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 at Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, Ind.
Born in Muhlenberg County, March 13, 1937, to the late Charles and Marie Peveler, she was a bus driver and a member of Bible Baptist Church in Portage, Ind.She was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry France in 1995; her second husband, Alvie France in 2002; a son, Terry France; and brothers, Bobby and Glen Peveler.
Survivors include a son, Roger France of Valparaiso, Ind., and three grandchildren.

LUZERNE - Clifford Earl “Pap” Bryant, 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, May 23, 1922, to the late Minnie and Bud Bryant, he retired from Greenville Quarries after 35 years of service and was a member of Olive Grove General Baptist Church.He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Bryant in 1966; a son, Ronnie Bryant; brothers, Monk Bryant and Wallace Bryant; and a sister, Mary Lou Flat.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Bryant of Graham and Jackie Bryant of Greenville; three daughters, Carolyn Bryant and Melinda Newman, both of Greenville, and Erma Vincent of Central City; two brothers, Marvin Bryant and Winford (Wimp) Bryant, both of Greenville; five grandchildren, Roger Bryant, Chris Vincent, Mikey Bryant, Wesley Newman, and Jacqueline Newman; and two great-grandchildren, Chelsea Bryant and Caleb Vincent.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Felix Derward Ford; two daughters, Debbie (Lloyd Scott) Jessup and Bonita (Steve) Earle, both of Greenville; three brothers, Alvin Stovall of Lexington, Paul Stovall of Michigan, and Echolas Stovall of Greenville; a sister, Hilda Cansler of Owensboro; eight grandchildren, Tammy Harvey, Jody Jessup, Tina Jessup, and Toni Henderson, all of Greenville, Darren Jessup of Woodbury, Tenn., Brad Earle of Bowling Green, Jon Earle of Jackson, Ky., and Mary Beth Earle of Greenville; and seven great-grandchildren.
