ELKTON - Lorene Wheeler, 80, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes.
Born in Todd County, Aug. 31, 1923, to the late Monroe and Elsie Wells Mayes, she was a homemaker and a member of Elkton Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence W. Wheeler in 1991, and two brothers, Stanley Mayes and Otho Mayes.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry R. Wheeler of Valencia, Calif. and Dale Wheeler of Elkton; two brothers, Douglas Mayes of Hopkinsville and Houston Mayes of Clifty; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Nov. 18 at Latham Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Tracy officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Elkton Baptist Building Fund, P.O. Box 547, Elkton, KY 42220.
Donald O. Mercer
Donald O. Mercer, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Nov. 2, 1919, he was a welder and retired coal miner.
Survivors include three sons, Donald Ray Mercer of Hodkins, Ill., Rondall Lee Mercer of Creel Springs, Ill., and James Mercer of Central City; two daughters, Debora Fay Koff of Braidwood, Ill. and Brenda Joyce Doyle of Buckner, Ill.; two brothers, Connis Mercer of Penrod and Jerald Mercer of Belton; a sister, Zopha Rager of Bremen; 20 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Nov. 19 at Tucker Funeral Home with pastor Carroll Graybeal. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Ina B. Devine Thompson
HARTFORD - Ina B. “Momma Ina” Devine Thompson, 86, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 at Ohio County Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Sept. 8, 1917, to the late Will Devine and Tura Burge Devine, she was a hairdresser, an owner of various businesses including restaurant and grocery stores, as well as a published poet. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sharon Ann Young Sharp in 1998.
Survivors include four daughters, Doris Young Callahan of Winter Haven, Fla., Freda Edwards of Greenville, Judy Morris of Dunmor, and Nancy Ferguson of Owensboro; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Nov. 19 at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Owensboro.
Ruby Piper Shepherd
BEECH CREEK Ruby Piper Shepherd, 65, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004 at her residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Sept. 25, 1939, to Jenettie Piper and the late Penueal Piper, she was a homemaker and of Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Aldridge.
Survivors include a daughter, Jetter Jessup of Beechmont; four brothers, Ray Piper of Belton, Penueal Piper, Jr. of Beech Creek, Donnie Piper of Cleaton and Monnie Piper of Ennis; two sisters, Patsy Jarvis of Browder and Betty Bishop of Moorman; and a grandson.
Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Nov. 13 at Forest Grove Cemetery in Browder with the Rev. Gary Hines officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

DRAKESBORO Edna Cox Page, 65, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, July 18, 1939, she was of Pentecostal faith. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Page Dennis.
Survivors include a son, John Christopher Page of Drakesboro; a daughter, Barbara Page Dennis of Drakesboro; a brother, Hayward Cox of Louisville; two grandchildren; a step grandchild; and a niece.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Nov. 11 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. B.J. Embry officiating. Burial followed in Ebenezer Cemetery in Drakesboro.
Celia Geraldine Walden
BELTON Celia Geraldine Walden, 56, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004 at her residence.
Born in Logan County, June 27, 1948, to the late Ollie Bell Holman Way and Clifford Way, Sr., she was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Wilkins Walden.
Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Grace Walden of Central City; a son, Randall Ray Sweeney of Belton; and a brother, J.R. Way of Belton.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Nov. 11 at Price Funeral Home, Inc. in Lewisburg with the Rev. Raymond Allen officiating. Burial followed in Sand Springs Cemetery in Lewisburg.

Helen Marie Edge, 65, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004 at her residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Dec. 1, 1938, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include three brothers, William E. Edge of Central City, L.D. Edge of Drakesboro and Roger Landrum of Beechmont.

Dezester Jean Evans Dukes
OWENSBORO Dezester Jean Evans Dukes, 70, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004 at her residence.
Born in Butler County, Jan. 29, 1934, to the late Marvie Evans and Beulah Henderson Evans, she was a homemaker and a member of Owensboro Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jarvis Evans, and a sister, Ada Moore.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Jewel Dean Dukes; a son, Steven Dukes of Owensboro; a daughter, Brenda Lutz of Evansville, Ind.; a brother, Troy Evans of Owensboro; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Nov. 12 at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial followed in Cherry Grove Cemetery in Weir.
Dana Lynn Waltrip
Dana Lynn Waltrip, 30, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004 on U.S. Hwy. 431 in Central City as a result of an accident.
Born in Owensboro, Feb. 17, 1974, the daughter of Mexie and Billy Boling, she was an emergency medical technician and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Philpot, Ky.
Survivors include her husband, Barry Waltrip; five sons, Lee Waltrip, Nathan Waltrip, Patrick Waltrip, Randal Waltrip and Trenton Waltrip, all of Central City; and two brothers, Darrell Jewell and David Cotton, both of Owensboro.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Nov. 15 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Jewell Martin officiating. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Cemetery in Philpot.
Khris Bassham
LEWISBURG Khris Bassham, 52, formerly of Milford, Ill., died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004 at his residence.
Born in Watseka, Ill., he was the son of Chris Bassham and the late Lucille Thomas Bassham.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Bassham; a daughter, Jennifer Towell of St. Joseph, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Rhonda Stradtner of Bowling Green; a stepson, Thomas Jodale Slaughter of Lewisburg; a brother, Casey Bassham of Greenville; and several other family members.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m., Nov. 13 at Smith Funeral Home in Morgantown with the Rev. Frances Luecke officiating. Private burial followed at Bentley Brown Cemetery in Lewisburg.
James Robert Rice
ELKTON James Robert Rice, 57, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004 at Hearthstone Place of an illness.
Born in Todd County, June 12, 1947, to Mary White Rice and the late Charlie Rice, he worked for Ardco for 27 years and was a farmer. He was a member of Collier Springs General Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Lynn Rice; a son, Jamie Rice of Elkton; a daughter, Lori Pitts of Elkton; a brother, Chris Rice of Elkton; two sisters, Linda Knuckles of Elkton and Patricia Collins of Clarksville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Nov. 16 at Latham Funeral Home with the Rev. Freddie Harrison and the Rev. Roger Reynolds officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Reggie Dunn
ELKTON Reggie Dunn, 49, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004 at his residence after a short illness.
Born in Todd County, April 30, 1955, the son of the late Clay and Vera Blake Dunn, he was a self-employed lawn mower and small engine repairman. He was also a member of Collier Springs General Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Melda McGhee Dunn; a son, Nelson Clay Bodes of Hopkinsville; a daughter, April Carter of Elkton; three brothers, Roy Dunn of Russellville, Eddie Dunn of Dunmor and Jerry Wayne Dunn of Spokane, Wash.; five sisters, Shirley Moore of Clyde Park, Mont., Patricia Blackford and Carolyn Sue Neely, both of Russellville, Juanita Moody of Sherman, Texas and Debra Purvis of Spokane, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

William L. “Buddy” Powell
CLEATON William L. “Buddy” Powell, 77, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Dec. 22, 1926, the son of the late Melvin and Lena Powell, he was a self-employed appliance repair man and of Baptist faith. He was also a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by a brother, Junior Ray Powell.
Survivors include his companion, Eva Lou Yonts of Cleaton; a brother, Kenneth (Wanda) Powell of Owensboro; two sisters, Sybil (Vernon) Walls of Crown Point, Ind. and Jonelle (Bobby) Williams of Clarksville, Tenn.; six nephews; and five nieces.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Nov. 14 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. T.H. Davis officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Earl Jenkins
Earl Jenkins, 79, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, May 23, 1925, he was a retired coal miner and a member of First Baptist Church in Oak Park, Mich. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II having served on LSM Ship #23.
Survivors include his wife, Uneeda Bowen Jenkins; a son, Earl Lee (Carrie) Jenkins of Shelby Township, Mich.; a daughter, Jeannie (Dave) Pepperell of New Holland, Ill.; a sister, Annie and Raymond Earl Cates of Central City; nine grandchildren, Kim, Khris, Michele, Kurt, Nicole, Kyle, Kasey, Jesse, Rachel, Katie and James Earl.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Nov. 17 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Dave Pepperell officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Born in Muhlenberg County, July 16, 1914, she was a factory worker and a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy Swift of Shepherdsville; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four nieces and a nephew.

Born in Muhlenberg County, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Franklin and a bookkeeper for Dillingham, Richie and Petrie, Attorneys at Law in Elkton.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Walker; a son, Ken Dillingham of Elkton; a daughter, Ann Martin of Franklin; two step sons, Jimmy Walker of Los Angeles, Calif. and Tommy Walker of Cazanovia, N.Y.; a step daughter, Becky Carter of Fairfield, Ill.; four grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
