CLIFTY - Dorris Randall Powell, 66, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003 at the Osceola Regional Hospital in Kissimmee, Fla. of natural causes.
Born in Clifty, May 10, 1937, to the late Wayne and Alma Lear Powell, he was a retired residential and commercial building contractor. He was a member of the Haines City First Presbyterian Church in Haines City, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara L. Powell; three sons, Thomas R. Powell of Greenville, Gregory W. Powell of Nashville, Tenn., and Christian Lee Curtis of Russellville; a daughter, Susan Hewatt of Melborne Beach, Fla.; a sister, Nelda Dean Rager of Clifty; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Nov. 2 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Jimmy Kenner and John Lile officiating. Burial followed in Heltsley Cemetery in Clifty.
Bree Allison Whitfield
SACRAMENTO - Bree Allison Whitfield, 14, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003 at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville.
Born in Madisonville, Jan. 19, 1989, she was a ninth-grade student at McLean County High School where she was a member of the gifted and talented and McLean County Marching Cougars. She was a member of New Cypress Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include her parents, Keith and Beverly Whitfield; a sister, Kaithlyn Whitfield; grandparents, Mozell and Amzia Wheeler of Madisonville, and Bill and June Hill of Sacramento; great-grandmother, Catherine Hill of Madisonville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Nov. 3 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento. Burial followed in New Cypress Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in McLean County. Herbert J. Wilkerson
LOUISVILLE - Herbert J. Wilkerson, 91, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 at Little Sisters of the Poor.
He was a native of Beech Creek and a retired bookkeeper for the Byerly Ford Company with 29 years of service. He was also a U.S. Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will J. Wilkerson and Pearl Laswell-Wilkerson; and two sisters, Gladys Davis and Lucille Moore.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Nov. 4 at Little Sisters of the Poor. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorial gifts may go to Little Sisters of the Poor.
Wilbur Justine “Squibb” Camplin
BREMEN - Wilbur Justine “Squibb” Camplin, 76, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003 at Maple Manor Health Care in Greenville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, he was a retired coal miner with the P&M Mining Company, a 49-year member of the Owensboro Masonic Lodge #130, a Kentucky Colonel, and Honorary Captain of the New Orleans Police Department and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Moorman. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran having served aboard the destroyer the USS Stribling as a gunner during World War II. His wife, Lola Belle George Camplin, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Justin (Mary) Camplin of Central City; three daughters, Sheila (Mike) Mercer of Paducah, Phillis (Lamar) Morris of Bremen, and Debbie (John) Mercer of Central City; two brothers, Paul Camplin of Greenville and Billy D. Camplin of Hot Springs, Fla.; three sisters, Dorothy Smith of Jacksonville, Fla., Emma Nell Cartwright of Beechmont, and Ann Ybarra of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Christopher Mercer, Christinea Mercer-Divine, Miranda Pieszchalski, and Joey Mercer; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Nov. 5 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will take place in the New Harmony Cemetery in Bremen. Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. on Tuesday and after 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home.
Hickman Wilson
ELKTON Hickman Wilson, 71, died Friday, October 29, 2004 at Hearthstone Place in Elkton after a lengthy illness.
Born in Todd County, June 23, 1933, the son of the late Henry Clay and Cordie Markham Wilson, he was retired from International Paper and was a truck driver. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #71.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Wilson; three sons, Steve Lack, Harold Wilson and Henry Cole Wilson, all of Elkton; a daughter, Darlene Miller of Elkton; two sisters, Ethel Ford and Bess Wheeler Case, both of Elkton; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Oct. 31 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Buddy Weatherford officiating. Burial followed in Stokes Chapel Cemetery.
Annie N. Majors
KIRKMANSVILLE Annie N. Majors, 64, died Sunday, October 31, 2004 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes.
Born in Todd County, July 8, 1940, the daughter of the late Sanford and Ruby Jones Tucker, she was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Tucker, and a sister, Wilma Carlene Tucker.
Survivors include her husband, John T. Majors; a son, Johnny Dewayne Majors of Rock Hill, S.C.; two daughters, Marie Majors of Lacy and Darlene Mitchell of Kirkmansville; a brother, Roy Tucker of Allegre; five sisters, Laveda Haley and Nancy Allen, both of Elkton, Norene Meacham of Hopkinsville, Juanita Williams of Clifty, and Janet Youtsey of Washington; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Nov. 2 at Pleasant View Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Johnston Cemetery. Latham Funeral Home in Elkton was in charge of arrangements.
Bruce Ray Cobb
SHAWNEETOWN, ILL. Bruce Ray Cobb, 42, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004 at his residence.
He was born in Muhlenberg County, April 21, 1962. He was preceded in death by his father, M.C. Cobb.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Cobb; his mother, Marie Scott of White Plains; three stepsons; two stepdaughters; four sisters; a brother; four stepsisters; a stepbrother; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Oct. 27 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Skipworth officiating. Burial followed in Yeargins Chapel Cemetery in Graham.
Burnell M. Winebarger
GREENVILLE Burnell M. Winebarger, 85, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004 in the Owensboro Health System Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, June 8, 1919, he retired from Dow Chemical Company after 32 years as a chemical distillation operator. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He attended Western Kentucky Teachers College and was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for 40 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Winebarger; a son, the Rev. Robert Winebarger of Muncie, Ind.; two daughters, Janet Pond of Eau Claire, Wisc. and Charlotte Morford of Pemberville, Ohio; two sisters, Evelyn Brandon of Glendale and Thelma Yates of Greenville; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Oct. 28 at First Baptist Church in Greenville with the Rev. Gary McAbee and the Rev. Rob Gwaltney officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville was in charge of arrangements.
Sybil S. Robinson
BREMEN Sybil S. Robinson, 94, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004 at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born in Butler County, March 24, 1910, she was retired from Bremen High School and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Robinson, and a son, Doris Joe Robinson.
Survivors include a son, Billy Gene (Barbara) Robinson of Bremen; a daughter, Vrylena (Don) Gish of Greenville; seven grandchildren, Jackie Kirtley, Ricky Robinson, Brian Robinson, Mike Robinson, Karen Wethington, Michelle Bass and Cheri Fogle; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Oct. 31 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery in Bremen.
Alberta Pearson Baker
BELTON Alberta Pearson Baker, 90, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, May 5, 1914, she was a homemaker and a member of Myers Chapel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Baker, and a daughter, Barbara Strader.
Survivors include four daughters, Lois Skipworth of Greenville, June Dukes of Rosewood, Marilyn Hunt of Bowling Green and Mary Alice Grace of Marion, Ill.; a son, David Baker of Franklin, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Oct. 31 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Dukes officiating. Burial followed in Rosewood Cemetery.
Paul Franklin Parker
CLEATON Paul Franklin Parker, 47, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville.
A native of Muhlenberg County, he was a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Cleaton.
Survivors include his wife, Georgetta Parker; three sons, Tyrone Ray Wilson and Kirk Wilson, both of Greenville, and Terry Wilson of Cleaton; a daughter, Jamesetta Nash of Central City; his mother, Georgia Parker Walton of Cleaton; his father, Paul F. Boyd of Louisville; stepfather, Allen Walton Sr. of Cleaton; four brothers, Jerry Boyd, David Boyd and Charles Boyd, all of Cleaton, and Allen Walton of Drakesboro; four sisters, Earlene Suggs of Earlington, Susie Gott of Central City, and Debra Mitchell and Gina Bowman, both of Cleaton; three uncles, Willie Parker of Cleaton, Claudean Boyd of Greenville and Daniel Boyd of Mayfield; two aunts, Earlene Williams of Cleaton and Betty Boyd of Louisville; seven grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Guy Otha Drake, Jr.
PORTLAND, TENN. Guy Otha Drake, Jr., 81, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004 at Gallatin Health Care.
Born April 15, 1923, to the late Guy Otha and Eva Chapell Drake, he was a native of Muhlenberg County and a member of Cherry Grove Church of Christ in Weir. He was a self-employed painter and wrote and recorded several songs including “Welfare Cadillac.” He was preceded in death by three brothers, Woodrow, Bernard and Guy H. Drake; a sister, Betty Walker; and a half brother, Sherman Hill.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary Teague Drake; two sons, Thomas Drake of Nashville, Tenn. and Kerry Drake of Defeated Community of Smith County, Tenn.; two daughters, Paula Martin of Castalian Springs, Tenn. and Linda Marksberry of Portland, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

Emma Lee Gott
Emma Lee Gott, 62, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Montgomery County, Ind., Nov. 10, 1941, she was a member of New Immanuel Baptist Church in Central City.
Survivors include her husband, Robert T. Gott Sr. of Central City; two sons, Robert T. Gott Jr. and Jeffery Lee Robinson, both of Central City; two daughters, Kimberly Diane Gott and Jenifer Carney, both of Central City; two brothers, Cecil Robinson and Walter Robinson, both of Crawfordsville, Ind.; three sisters, Beverly Robinson of Crawfordsville, Ind., Betty Robinson of Chicago, Ill. and Mary Robinson of St. Louis, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.

Willis “Firecracker” Haley Jr.
CLIFTY - Willis “Firecracker” Haley Jr., 60, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 of an apparent fishing accident in Livingston County.
Born in Manila, Philippines Sept. 30, 1945, he was the son of the late Row Willis Sr. and Audrey Jane Williamson Haley. He was a retired gunsmith, pawnbroker and cook.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy Latham Haley; five sons, Tracy Haley and James Haley, both of Henderson, Troy Haley and John Haley, both of Clifty and Todd Haley of Lewisburg; five brothers, Henry Haley of Lewisburg, Timmy Haley of Frankfort, Germany, Jimmy Haley of Elkton, Gary Haley of Louisville and Tony Haley of Adams, Tenn.; four sisters, Anita Jane Haley of Russellville, Thersa Aida Minton of Nashville, Tenn. and Donna Gail Arseneault and Becky Todd, both of Hampton, Va. and four grandchildren.

Johnnye Elizabeth Gill
BELTON - Johnnye Elizabeth Gill, 95, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Hopkins County June 21, 1910, she was a homemaker and a member of the Woodland Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Gill.
Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Strader of Greenville and Connie Hudson of Lake Malone; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. E.W. Greenwalt officiating. Burial followed in Carter Creek Cemetery in Greenville.
Dorothy Evelyn Gill Whitney
BEECH CREEK - Dorothy Evelyn Gill Whitney, 75, was called home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005 following a brief illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County July 3, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Ott and Elva Carver Gill. She was a life member of the Beech Creek Missionary Baptist Church where she was the church organist and taught several different Sunday School classes over the years. She was a 1948 graduate of Hughes Kirk High School. While raising five children, she attended Western Kentucky University and graduated with honors receiving a degree in Elementary Education. She then returned to Hughes Kirk to teach sixth grade for 27 years before retiring. She was active in the Hughes Kirk Alumni Association serving on the scholarship committee raising funds for college bound students. Over the years she enjoyed playing golf, drawing, painting, softball, reading, singing, being with her family and helping others. She especially loved music and her latest achievement was teaching herself how to play the violin during this past year. She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Harold Ray Whitney; four daughters, Janice (Richard) Wood, Pam Ford, Sudith (David) Morris, and Lisa (Tim) Johnson; a son, Cary (Kathy) Whitney; three sisters, Lillian Brokaw, Jo Mauzy and Kay Kamuf, a brother, Glenn Gill; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at Beech Creek Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Piper, Brother Harry Neal and Pastor Chad Clark officiating.
