Bob Grundy

NORTONVILLE, KY - Robert “Bob” Edward Grundy, 76, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 in Madisonville.
Born in Muhlenberg County May 8, 1929, he was the son of the late Ed and Minnie Grundy. He was a truck driver for Bennett & Bennett Paving, a member of the Gilland Ridge General Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Camplin Grundy; two sons, Kevin Grundy of Nortonville and Jerry Davis of Hammond, Ind.; a daughter, Cathy Laffoon of Nortonville; four sisters, Betty Mercer, Ruth Rose, Magaline Camplin and Margaret Pendley, all of Muhlenberg County; eight grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 at Gilland Ridge General Baptist Church in St. Charles with the Rev. J.W. Haire officiating. Burial followed in Gilland Ridge General Baptist Church Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Gilland Ridge Building Fund. Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonville was in charge of the arrangements.

John M. Kirtley

GREENVILLE - John M. Kirtley, 84, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Island Nov. 9,1920, he was the son of the late Susie and Melbourn Kirtley. He served several terms on the Central City Council, a former member of the Lions Club, a charter member of the Central City Country Club, a lifetime member of the Island Masonic Lodge, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the A.B. “Happy” Chandler Foundation and a die hard Cubs fan. He was an Army veteran of World War II, with combat engineers. He received five Bronze Battle Stars and was a P.O.W. He belonged to the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, the American Legion and the V.F.W. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Central City where he had served in numerous capacities. He was preceded in death by three brothers, W.F. “Iney” Kirtley, B.W. “Red” Kirtley and Shirley Kirtley.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Bailey Kirtley; two sons, Dick (Sandy) Kirtley and Rodney (Jackie) Kirtley, both of Central City; four grandchildren, John Royster Kirtley of Central City, Jenny Lou (Chad) Pierce of Bowling Green, Kacy Kirtley of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Kara Kirtley of Lexington and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 2 in the Island Methodist Cemetery in Island. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Nov. 1 with a memorial service following at 7 p.m. at the Central City United Methodist Church. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made for improvements to Paradise Park. Forms will be available at First United Methodist Church or may be mailed to Paradise Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 132, Beechmont, KY 42323. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Pauline Bumpus Mooney

MADISONVILLE - Pauline Bumpus Mooney, 89, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Webster County Oct. 24, 1916, she was a homemaker, employed by the Webster County Board of Education for nine years in the food service department and a member of Slover Baptist Church in Dixon. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Aubrey E. “Buck” Mooney; two brothers, Robert Wesley “Wes” Bumpus and Luther L. “Jake” Bumpus and a sister, Naomi Ray Shields.
Survivors include a son, Aubrey R. “Sonny” Mooney of Frankfort; a daughter, Pauletta Yarbrough of Eldorado, Ill.; a brother, Lee Dixon “Dick” Bumpus of Clay, Ky.; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 1 at Slover Baptist Church in Dixon with Brother Curt Yarbrough, Brother Mack Gibson and Brother Frank Dorris officiating. Burial followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the American Optometric Association, 243 N. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63141. Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon was in charge of the arrangements.

Johnathon Michael Gibson

SACRAMENTO - Johnathon Michael Gibson, infant, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Hopkins County Oct. 29, 2005, he was the son of Parvin Jr. and Amanda Gibson.
Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Nikki and Lexie Gibson of Sacramento; his grandparents, Ronnie and Kitty Burden of Sacramento, Parvin Sr. and Lisa Gibson of Slaughters and Angela Morgan of Nashville, Tenn.; his great-grandmothers, Ruby Brown of Elizabethtown and Joyce Morgan of Sebree; five aunts and six uncles.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Nov. 1 at the Sacramento Methodist Church in Sacramento with the Rev. Jesse Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Bremen. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Gelita N. Ewing

POWDERLY - Gelita N. Ewing, 73, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005 at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Born in Muhlenberg County June 18, 1932, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Terry Baker of Westville, Ind.; three sisters, Carolyn Murphy of Powderly and Imogene Myers and Allma Jones, both of Central City; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Webster officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Portage, Ind. Visitation will be after 4:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City.

Rev. Delbert R. Covington

LOUISVILLE, KY - Rev. Delbert R. Covington, 78, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005 at Caritas Medical Center in Louisville.
Born in Luzerne Feb. 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Rev. Christopher Denton Covington and Veda Cloe Lovell Covington. He was retired from Tube Turns and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was the pastor at Forestview United Baptist Church in Fairdale, Ky., served as pastor at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in White Plains, Ky., Lear Hill United Baptist Church in Borden, Ind., Pond Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Valley Station, Ky. and Rockfordview United Baptist Church in Louisville. He also helped in the establishment of Owensboro United Baptist Church in Owensboro and Charity United Baptist Church in English, Ind. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth L. Covington, Bobby C. Covington and David E. Covington and four sisters, Mazine Covington, Christine Dukes, Emma Jane Teal and Jo Nell Covington.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Martin Covington; three sons, Daniel Ray Covington Sr., Michael D. Covington and Teddy L. Covington; two daughters, Jo Ann Kaelin and Judy M. Rich; a brother, Larry W. Covington; a sister, Margaret Berger; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 3 at Rockfordview United Baptist Church in Louisville with the Rev. Jim Blair and the Rev. Winston Cosby officiating. Burial will follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be from noon-8 p.m. Nov. 1 and from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Nov. 2 at J. B. Ratterman & Sons-Southwest Funeral Home in Louisville. J.B. Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home in Louisville was in charge of the arrangements.

William F. Vaught

MIDLAND - William F. Vaught, 78, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County May 26, 1927, he was of the Baptist faith, a retired boilermaker for Local 40 and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Fredia L. Vaught; two sons, William E. Vaught of Midland and James F. Vaught of Georgia; two daughters, Connie S. Vaught of Owensboro and Janice L. Nemcek of Indiana; a brother, Joseph D. Vaught of Greenville; a sister, M. Fern Maddox of Powderly; eight grandchildren; three step grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 2 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Jernigan’s Chapel Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Nov. 1 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City.

Willa Dean Gish

Willa Dean Gish, 83, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.
Born in Muhlenberg County Aug. 14, 1922, she was employed as a presser at Sanitary Cleaners in Central City for 24 years and a member of New Harmony Baptist Church in Bremen. She was preceded in death by her husband J.W. Gish in 2004.
Survivors include three daughters, Anna Dean (Paul) Hibbs of Madisonville, Linda Kay (Barry) Jarvis of Mt. Washington, Ky. and Betty Jean (Carl Wayne) White of Greenville; seven grandchildren, Kelly Divine, Kevin Divine, Kathy Sumner, Kim White, Kristin White, Stephanie Wilson and Jennifer Hinton; a step grandson, John Hibbs; four great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 2 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Yeager officiating. Burial will follow in Shaver’s Chapel Cemetery in Bremen. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Nov. 1 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City.

Jimmy Ray Moore
OWENSBORO - Jimmy Ray Moore, 56, of Owensboro, died October 20, 2002 in Evansville.
Born October 16, 1946 in Muhlenberg County, he was self-employed in sales and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include one son, W. Tyson Moore of Stow, Ohio; two daughters, Melisse Moore of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and Jaimee Moore of Hopkinsville; two grandchildren; one brother, Danny L. Moore of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; and one sister, Angela M. Anderson of Owensboro.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 26 at Tucker Funeral Home with Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery in Bremen. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Daniel Patino Shelter, 501 Walnut St., Owensboro, KY 42301. Tucker Funeral Home in Central City was in charge of arrangements.

Roy Lee Jernigan

BEECH CREEK - Roy Lee Jernigan, 50, of Beech Creek, died Wednesday, October 23 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born November 26, 1951, he was a retired coal miner and a member of Riverside Baptist Church. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Hazel Creek #842 and Rizpah Temple, Madisonville.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Tatum Jernigan; two sons, Matthew Jernigan and Joshua Jernigan, both of Beech Creek; parents, William and Bertha Jernigan of Central City; two brothers, Terry Jernigan of Central City and David Jernigan of Martwick; three sisters, Debbie Nolano of Chicago, Devonia Gunn of Beech Creek and Thersia Jernigan of Central City; and step-grandmother, Ruby Jean Boyd of Central City.
A Masonic service was held Thursday, October 24 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Friday, October 25 at Riverside Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Chambers officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rena Mae Thompson

DRAKESBORO - Rena Mae Thompson, 91, of Drakesboro, died Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born February 1, 1911 in Muhlenberg County, she was a retired auto assembly worker and was of the Pentecostal faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Estle Thompson in 1990, son, Estle Ray Thompson in 1993 and granddaughter, Christina Parrott in 1999.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Eugene Thompson of Browder and Terry Wayne Thompson of Chicago; one daughter, Doris Garrett of Drakesboro; 14 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; four step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held Friday, October 25 at Tucker Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Hibbs officiating. Burial followed in Coleman Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were handled by Tucker Funeral Home.

Jeffery Dewayne Putnam

BROWDER - Jeffery Dewayne Putnam, 48, of Browder, died October 23, 2002 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a short illness.
Born August 15, 1954 in Muhlenberg County, he was a Christian and a great servant. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ezeikel Joseph Putnam.
Survivors include his parents, Buddy and Earlene (Travis) Putnam of Browder; one adopted son, Chris Conway of Central City; four brothers, Danny (Ann) Putnam, Timothy (Diane) Putnam, Michael (Diana) Putnam, all of Greenville and Dale (Tish Putnam of Tell City, Indiana; two sisters, Dianne (Mike) Hildebrant of Hopkinsville, Darleen (David) Stanley of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 26, at Gary’s Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Green officiating, assisted by Rev. George Phillips and Rev. Kevin Burden. Burial followed in Jernigan Chapel Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Wilbert Loran Stobaugh

GREENVILLE - Wilbert Loran Stobaugh, 85, of Greenville, died Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born October 28, 1916 to John Riley and Nina Jarvis Stobaugh in Muhlenberg County, he was a member of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church . He was retired from River Queen after 30 years and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Earnest and Wilbert Stobaugh, his wife, Deloras Nickoles Stobaugh and son-in-law, Jerry Thompson.
Survivors include one son, Larry (Patricia) Stobaugh of Greenville; eight daughters, Shirley (John) Rose, Nancy (John) Vincent, Louise (Dinford) Brooks, Kathy (Bruce) Durall, Connie (Paul) Croft, all of Greenville, Barbara Thompson of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, Dorothy (Jeff) Kyle of Midland and Linda (Billy) Day of Belton; 29 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 26 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Jones officiating, assisted by Rev. B. A. Mercer. Burial followed in Old Bethel Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Norman F. “Blackie” Edwards

NORRIDGE, IL - Norman F. Edwards, 83, died Wednesday, October 23, 2002.
Born August 18, 1919, he was the loving father of four daughters, Mary Jean (James Drake) (Michael), Patty (Roger) Cantrell, Kathy (Ray) Imburgia-Novak, and Theresa (Joseph) Basinski; three sons: Dennis (Debra), Joe (Susan), and Robert “Red”. He was the fond grandfather of 20, great grandfather of three, dear brother of Bill (the late Donna) and fond uncle of many.
Funeral services were held October 25 at Cumberland Chapels in Norridge, Illinois. Graveside services and interment were held Sunday, October 27 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Tucker Funeral Home in Central City was in charge of local arrangements.

Ruth Ann Hines

DRAKESBORO - Ruth Ann Hines, 70, of Drakesboro, died Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at her residence.
The Drakesboro native attended Drakesboro Community School and was a lifelong member of St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church where she held the following leadership capacities: Missionary Society, Poor Steward Treasurer, Class Leader and District Officer. She was a devoted member of the Eastern Star. She retired with over 20 years of service from General Electric Aircraft Engine Company and prior to her retirement, she worked for the Tobacco Company in Greenville.
Survivors include six sons, William Hines and Harold Hines, both of Drakesboro; Stanley Hines of Central City, Stephen Hines of Madisonville, Perry Hines of Fort Wayne and Patrick Hines of Lawrenceburg; fifteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 26 at Wesley Chapel, A.M.E. Zion Church. The Order of Eastern Stars performed last rites. Burial followed in West End Cemetery. Bibbs’ Funeral Home in Greenville was in charge of arrangements.
