Born in Clay, KY on September 13, 1937, she was a member of Powderly United Methodist Church in Powderly.She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Leona Marks.
She is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, Don McCarty;one daughter, LaDonna (and husband, James) Jones of Owensboro;four sisters, Oneida Maurer and Dortha Beckner, both of Evansville, Jeanne Hinton of Waynesboro, VA and Faunda Cowan of Clay;four grandchildren, Ashley and Michael McCarty and Tyler and Logan Jones.
Funeral services were held September 9 at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay, KY with Rev. Carl Dugger officiating.Burial followed in Oddfellows Cemetery in Clay.Funeral arrangements were handled by Vanover Funeral Home in Clay.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Powderly United Methodist Church, Powderly.

HARTFORD - Cynthia M. Voyles, 43, of Hartford, KY died September 7, 2002 at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Born April 19, 1959 in Norfolk, Virginia to parents, Clyde Voyles and Violet Berkley Voyles, she was a plant designer and was retired from Dart Polvmers, Inc.She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Roger Allen Voyles of Hartford;one brother, Donald Young of Hartford and one sister, Daniela Voyles Wheeler of Central City.
Funeral services were held September 9 at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home.Burial followed inAxton Cemetery in Olaton, KY.Funeral arrangements were handled by Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home.The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Hospice of Ohio County, 1211 Main St., Hartford, KY42347.

Patsy Eaves Mullican
Patsy Eaves Mullican, 58,of Central City died September 8, 2002 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born May 25, 1944 in Muhlenberg County, she was a bank teller and a Jehovah’s Witness.
She is survived by one son, Troy Eaves (and wife, Lee Ann) of Fort Mitchell, KY;three brothers, Herbert Mayes of Greenville, Tommy Mayes of Linton, IN, and Larry Mayes of Central City;one sister, Jean Felton of Kansas City, Missouri;two grandsons, Jonathon Eaves and Christopher Eaves.
Funeral services were held September 10 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Elder Ron Cary officiating.Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.Funeral arrangements were handled by Tucker Funeral Home.

BELTON - Charles E. DeArmond, 69, of Belton died September 8, 2002, at his residence.
Born August 17, 1933 in Muhlenberg County, he was a retired truck driver and of the Pentecostal faith.He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna and Janie;father, Jewell DeArmond;mother, Thelma Riley DeArmond;stepmother, Verlie Ford DeArmond;step grandson, Shane Neal Mallory;brothers, Milton and Ricky DeArmond;and wife, Shelby Penrod DeArmond.
He is survived by three sons, Keith and Danny DeArmond, both of Belton and Bruce DeArmond of Beech Creek;two daughters, Kathy Marie Shelton of Belton and Wanda Jean Mallory of Drakesboro;one stepson, Tony Robinson of Greenville;one step daughter, Kelly Robinson of Cadiz;22 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 9 step grandchildren;one brother, Therman “Big Man” DeArmond of Rochester;twosisters, Lilian Sorrels of Belton and Mildred Knight of Beech Creek;two half brothers, Michael DeArmond and Willard DeArmond, both of Beech Creek;and one half sister, Linda DeArmond of Beech Creek.
Funeral services will be held September 11 at Tucker Funeral Home in Beechmont with Rev. T. H. Davis officiating, assisted by Rev. Floyd Steele.Burial will follow in Wyatt’s Chapel Cemetery in Beech Creek. Tucker Funeral Home in Beechmont is in charge of arrangements.

Eddie Roy Roten
ROBARTS - Eddie Roy Roten, 56, died September 6, 2002 at his residence.
Born December 15, 1945 in Logan County, he was a truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Austin Roten.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m.Thursday, September 12 at Briar Creek Cemetery in Bremen with Rev. David White officiating.
At Eddie’s request, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Anthony’s Hospice, P. O. Box 351, Henderson, KY42419-0351.

Loretta Helen Koenning
BREMEN - Loretta Helen Koenning, 75, of Bremen died Monday, August 26, 2002, at her residence.
Born October 29, 1927 in Chicago, she was a homemaker and of the Jehovah Witness faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Wilkerson of Lewisburg,Darcie Holbrook of Melrose Park, IL and Anastasia Moccaldi of Lewisburg;five grandchildren, Dion Wilkerson, Crystal Wilkerson, Melanie Koenning, Alyssa Panepinto and Tiffany Moccaldi;and father, Allison Everett of Franklin Park, IL.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 30, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial followed in Elk Lick Cemeteryin Logan County.Tucker Funeral Home in Central City was in charge of arrangements.

Hazel Marie Allen
GREENVILLE - Hazel Marie Allen, 97, died Thursday,August 29, 2002 at the Maple Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Born July 30, 1905 in Muhlenberg County, she lived at Paxton Apartments and was a homemaker.She was a member of Lead Hill United Methodist Church in Weir.She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Allen in 1989.
Survivors include one son, Tom Allen of Greenville, two daughters, Betty Lee and Verna Mae Dukes, both of Greenville, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren and one brother, Jessie Crick of Greenville.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 31, 2002at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Don Gabbard officiating.Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery in Greenville.Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ellis Shanklin Martin
ELKTON - Ellis Shanklin Martin, 93, of Allegre died Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at his residence.
Born September. 24, 1908 in Todd County, she was the daughter of George Ed Shanklin and Ora Tucker Shanklin.She was a homemaker and was a member of Bellview Baptist Church and was inducted into the National Thumbpickers Hall of Fame in 1999.She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Martin in 1980, bythree sons,J. G. Martin in 1928, George Morris Martin in 1950 and Odell Martin in 1985;and by a daughter, Naomi Wyatt in 1988.
Survivors include two sons, Howard Dean Martin and Paul Martin of Elkton;one daughter, Janet Dunn of Allegre;one sister, Isabelle Rager of Allegre;one brother, Robert Shanklin of Allegre, 22 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Bellview Baptist Church in Allegre on Saturday, August 31, 2002 with Rev. Tommy Wilhite officiating.Burial followed in McColpin Cemetery in Allegre.Martin Funeral Home in Elkton was in charge of arrangements.

Erik Paul Williams
GREENVILLE - Erik Paul Williams of Greenville, 23, died August 28, 2002 at his residence.
Born June 20, 1979 in Crown Point, IN,he was a farmer.
Survivors include one daugheter, Cassie Lynn Williams of Cedar Lake, IN;father and stepmother, Danny and Rita Williams of Greenville;mother, Sharon K. Williams of Crown Point, IN;one brother, Cory Michael Williams of Cedar Lake, IN;and grandparents, Paul and Lois Williams of Belton and George and Shirley Terral of Arkansas.
Funeral services were held Sunday,September 1, 2002, at Tucker Funeral Home in Beechmont with Rev. Roy Day officiating.Burial followed in Mud River Union Cemetery at Belton.Tucker Funeral Home in Beechmont was in charge of arrangements.

Billie Glendal Edwards
Billie Glendal Edwards, 76, died August 30, 2002 at his residence in Central City.
Born September 30, 1925 in Muhlenberg County, he was a self employed construction worker.He was of the Baptist faith, a veteran of the US Navyand a member of the VFW.
Survivors include one daughter, Belinda Edwards of Louisville;two step grandchildren, Megan and Jerimah Baker;three brothers, Kenneth W. Edwards of Lakeland, FL, Jack B. Edwards of Louisville, and Randell L. Edwards of Tampa, FL;two sisters, JoAnna Cook of Louisville, Brenda C. Eversole of Central City;two stepsons, Ralph Becker and David Becker, both of Louisville, and one stepdaughter, Shawn Becker of Louisville.
Funeral services were held September. 2, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Allen Black officiating.Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.Tucker Funeral Home in Central City was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Emma Gaddis Lovell
Mary Emma Gaddis Lovell, 77 of Central City died Saturday, August 31, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born July 3, 1925 in Muhlenberg County, shewas a former teacher and bookkeeper for the Central City School System. She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church, a Sunday School teacher for 58 years, WMU member and a Training Union Teacher. Mrs. Lovell was also former treasurer of the Muhlenberg County Genealogy Association, secretary and treasurer of the Central City Alumni Association, appointed to the Central City High School Museum Committee and Mayorial Appointment, and was a volunteer in the Literacy Program.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Lovell; one son, Bill Lovell of Livermore; one daughter, Susie Alley of Ashland City, Tennessee; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 2, 2002 at the Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or the Central City Alumni Association.

Hallie Jessup Bethel
GREENVILLE - Mrs. Hallie Jessup Bethel, 91, died Sunday, September 1, 2002in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born June 13, 1911 in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville and was preceded in death by her husband, James Howard Bethel in 2000 and a daughter, Bobbie Lea Murphey in 1963.
Survivors include two sons, James Bethel of Greenville and Terry Bethel of St. Louis, MO; three daughters, Maudine Wolff of Elkton, Wilda Dean Caskey of Madisonville, and Sandra Kay Poe of Greenville; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, George Jessup of Depoy, and caregivers Jerry Rose and Barbara Whitney.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 3, 2002atGary’s Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Thurman officiating, assisted by Dr. Ray England. Burial followed in the Vernal Grove Cemetery in Depoy.

Robert Earl Knight
Robert Earl Knight, 23 of Central City died Sunday, September 1, 2002 at his residence in Central City. Born May 18, 1979 in Muhlenberg County. He was a member of the Nelson Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his mother, Virginia Sumner Knight; one brother, William Knight of Sacramento.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Powderly.

John Thomas Drake
ELIZABETHOWN - John Thomas Drake, 64, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002 at his residence in Elizabethtown.
Mr. Drake was born in Muhlenberg County.He was a member of the American Legion Post 113 in Elizabethtown and he retired, with 33 years, from Gates Rubber Co. in Elizabethtown.He was a lifetime farmer and a Vietnam War veteran. He was preceded in death by his father E.P. Drake and sister Ella Marie Drake.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jean Sutton Drake of Elizabethtown;his mother, Gertie Mae Reed Drake of Elizabethtown;one son, John Lee Drake of Elizabethtown;twodaughters, Nancy Carol Parr of Cecilia, KY and Becky Jean Drake of Elizabethtown;one sister, Margaret Fields of Vertrees, KY;and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 24, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Franklin Crossroads Baptist Church in Cecilia with Rev. Ron Davis officiating.Burial followed at Ridge Springs Church Cemetery. Manakee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Randall C. Vickers
FENTON, MO. - Randall C. Vickers, 77, of Fenton, MO died on Aug. 6, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kirkwood, MO.
Mr. Vickers was born January 8, 1925 in Central City, KY and moved to Missouri in 1959.He was a longstanding member of Springdale Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruby Jean Vickers;one daughter, Nell Howell;and one grandson, Donald Howell, all of Fenton, MO.
Funeral services were held August 8, 2002 at Heilitag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home in Arnold with Rev. Eugene Bowerman officiating.Interment was at Shepard Hills Cemetery in Barnhart, MO.

Clifford K. Arden
EVANSVILLE - Clifford D. Arden, age 85, of Evansville died Thursday, August 22, 2002 at St. Mary’s Riverside Continuing Care Center.
Cliff was a 50 year charter member of Teamsters Local Union No. 215.He was elected President of Local 215 in December of 1956 and servved in that capacity until January 1, 1987.During his tenure with Local 215, the membership grew from 1,500 members to a high of 6,000 members.He was a valuable part of politics at the local and state levels.Mr. Arden negotiated the first contract with the City of Evansville.He organized the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation maintenance and custodian departments.He played a major role in organizing several other Teamsters.This was a great accomplishment for the Teamsters Union, then and now.He also served as Secretary Treasurer of the Joint Council 69 and the Indiana Conference of Teamsters.
On May 8, 1973, Teamsters moved into its new buildingwhich they still occupy today.The building was dedicated and named the Cliff Arden Building on September 4, 1993.Cliff said this was one of his proudest moments.Cliff was instrumental in changing the procedure for the School Board from being an appointed position to an elected position.He served on the Ivy Tech Board and the Evansville Airport Authority Board.Cliff was a member of the Evansville Kennel Club, and a licensed pilot.He was the owner of the former Cafe´ Venice, located in downtown Evansville.Cliff was a World War II veteran, where he served as a Master Sergeant in the Army.He was a member of the Moose Lodge. Mr. Arden was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Arden.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alfreeda Croft Arden;and by the following nieces and nephews:Andrea Arden of Alexandria, VA;David and Polly Sadler of LaGrange, KY;Lewis and Sheila Smith of Evansville;Rickey Smith of Evansville;Sandy and Rob Steinhorst of Bonners Ferry, ID;Teresa and Charlie Morris of Drakesboro;Richard Winn of Sebree;Ronnie Croft of Evansville;Arvelle Gates of Evansville;and several grand nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 26, 2002 at Browning Funeral Home in Evansville with Rev. Robert Vester officiating.Entombment followed in Oak Hill Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society.

Billie Edward Stewart
BOWLING GREEN - Billie Edward Stewart, age 68, died August 21, 2002 at his residence in Bowling Green.
Mr. Stewart was born December 9, 1933 in Muhlenberg County to Elmer and Clara Vaden Stewart.He was preceded in death by two daughters, Vera Sue Stewart and Debra Lynn Stewart.
He was a retired sales representative for R. C. Bottling Co., a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Warren County Democratic Executive Committee.He was the owner/operator of Guys & Dolls Rec Center, worked for 20 years for Western Kentucky Tractor and was a family home provider for Life Skills.He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Air Force.He as a member of the Forest Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Sue Turner Stewart;three sons, Warren Edward Stewart of Auburn, KY,Kenneth Earl Stewart of Louisville, and William E. Stewart, Jr. of Bowling Green;three daughters, Linda Diane Stewart of Old Hickory, TN, Clara Lee Emberton of Bowling Green and Sharon Ann Beck of Madison, TN;one sister, Dorothy Nell Adler of Central City;10 grandchildren,three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 24,2002 at 11:30 a.m. at the J.C. Kirby and Son Broadway Chapel. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery. J.C. Kirby & Son Broadway Chapel were in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Jean Richardson
CENTRAL CITY - Margaret Jean Richardson, 45, died Aug. 25, 2002 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
She was born Oct. 1, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan.She was preceded in death by one sister, Mae Knight.
She was employed at Cal-Main Foods in Bremen and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include her mother, Frances Shaw;three sons, Brian Richardson, Tommy Richardson and Tony Richardson, all of Central City;one daughter, Frances Roblero of Owensboro; four grandchildren;two sisters, Lisa Robertson of Greenville and Marilyn Vick of Central City;and one very special friend, Wayne Redfern.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 29, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City.

Williford Arnold
DRAKESBORO - Williford Arnold, 87, died Aug. 24, 2002, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Mr. Arnold was born July 14, 1915 in Muhlenberg County.He was preceded in death by one daughter, Annetta Arnold.
He was retired from Bernardin Bottle Cap in Evansville and was a member of White Pentecostal Church in Beech Creek.
Survivors include his wife, Catheline Curlin Arnold;one son, Larry Arnold of Mt. Vernon, IN;one brother, Clifford Arnold, of Drakesboro;one sister, Irene Hicks of Mt. Vernon, IN.;three granddaughters;and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 26, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Drakesboro with Rev. Donald Hardin officiating, assisted by Rev. Johnny Long. Burial was in the Peanut Cemtery in Drakesboro.
