Cecil Ray Rickard

BREMEN - Cecil Ray Rickard, 76, of Bremen, died Friday, October 25, 2002 at his residence.
Born March 7, 1926 in Muhlenberg County, he was self employed as a truck driver and was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include five sons, Dennis Ray Rickard, David Rickard and Danny Rickard, all of Naples, Florida, Olson Lee Rickard of Ft. Myers, Florida and Dwight Rickard of Bremen; one daughter, Fredia Sue Bishop of St. Louis;18 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one brother, James Earl Rickard of Evansville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 29 at Tucker Funeral Home with Elder Durwood Arnold officiating. Burial followed in Peanut Cemetery in Drakesboro.
Tucker Funeral Home in Central City was in charge of arrangements.

Ellis Wayne Stanley

WARRIOR, AL - Ellis Wayne Stanley, 64, of Warrior, Alabama, formerly of Muhlenberg County, died Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at his residence.
Born March 18, 1938 in Butler County, he was retired from General Motors Corporation where he was a crane operator for 30 years. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local in Athens, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his son, David Stanley.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Mae Stanley of Warrior, AL; three daughters, Brenda Harris, Judy Stanley and Patricia Craig, all of Joliet, Illinois; two stepdaughters, his mother, Mary Ann Stanley; four sisters, Geraldine Stanley, Charlotte Lear and Gloria Stamps, all of Greenville and Joan Johnson from Welmington, Illinois; two brothers, Glenn Stanley of Greenville and Ray Stanley of Graham; 10 grandchildren; one great grandchild; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 12 at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home in Dora, Alabama with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating. New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Willie Perry Harris I

BREMEN - Willie Perry Harris I, 72, of South Carrollton, died Saturday, October 26, 2002 at his residence.
Born February 16, 1930 in Muhlenberg County, he was a construction worker and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include two sons, Willie P. Harris II of Sebree and Anthony K. Harris of Bremen; three daughters, Mickie Harris and Vickie Harris, both of Oklahoma and Brenda Carrari of California; one brother, Dow Harris of Jefferson, Indiana.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 29 at Tucker Funeral Home with Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial followed in Nelson Creek Cemetery. Tucker Funeral Home in Central City was in charge of arrangements.

Donnie Lee Wells

CALHOUN - Donnie Lee Wells, 63, of Calhoun, died Saturday, October 26, 2002 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born October 11, 1939 in Rosewood, he was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church. He worked as a Roughneck on oil rigs in Louisiana and he loved to fix up old cars.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Anna Christine Heltsley Wells of Calhoun; two sons, Neil Wells of Beaver Dam and Chris Wells of Hopkinsville; two daughters, Becky Stoker of Evansville and Denise Blixt of Crofton; nine grandchildren; one brother, Randell Wells of Greenville; one sister, Barbara Ann Venable of Russellville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 28 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Day officiating. Burial followed in Olive Grove Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jimmy D. Cotton

CALHOUN - Jimmy D. Cotton, 69, of Calhoun, died Saturday, October 26, 2002 at his residence.
Born July 6, 1933 in Muhlenberg County, he was retired after 20 years of service as Chief Engineer for the Crounse Corporation, and was a member of the Calhoun Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, University of Kentucky basketball and the Atlanta Braves.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Margaret Bartley Cotton; three sons, Roger Dale Cotton, Mitchell Wayne Cotton, both of Calhoun and Marvin Lee Cotton of Beech Grove; two daughters, Carolyn Ford of Calhoun and Debra Wilkerson of Fulton, Tennessee; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 29, at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel, with Dr. Richard Sams officiating. Burial followed in the Calhoun Cemetery with military honors conducted by the 101st Airborne Division. Muster Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Calhoun Baptist Food Pantry, c/o Martha Bell, P.O. Box 283, Calhoun, Kentucky 42327. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mildred Jean Walters Cobb

MADISONVILLE - Mildred Jean Walters Cobb, 62, of Madisonville, died Saturday, October 26, 2002 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born June 20, 1940 in Poole, Kentucky, she was of the Baptist Faith and was a registered nurse. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ray Cobb, on April 20, 2002 and son, Paul Douglas Cobb, on February 1, 2000.
Survivors include three sons, Paul Deon Cobb of Madisonville, Allan Wendle Brown of Indianapolis, Indiana and Kenneth Ray Brown of Niagra, Kentucky; one daughter, Lisa Darlene Dotty of Henderson; one stepson, David Ray Cobb of Bremen; two stepdaughters, Shirley Ann Haymaker of Gallatin, Tennessee and Tracey Elaine Gilbert of Tompkinsville, Kentucky; 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 29 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Tyson officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery in Depoy. Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville was in charge of arrangements.

Austin Lee Shutt

GREENVILLE - Austin Lee Shutt, 83, of Greenville, died Saturday, October 26, 2002 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born June 17, 1919 in Muhlenberg County, he retired in 1981 from United Steel in Gary, Indiana after 35 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving as a paratrooper in Europe and the Philippines. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, Powderly.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Alean Shutt, of Greenville; one daughter, Nancy Crick of Greenville; three grandchildren, Terry Fairchild of Valparaiso, Indiana, Vicky Ciaverella of Niles, Illinois and Patricia Beightler of Greenville; one great grandchild, Megan Beightler; two step great grandchildren, Daniel Beightler and Kelli Beightler; and two sisters, Suda Johnson and Susie McRoy, both of Greenville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 29, at Gary’s Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Epley officiating. Burial followed in Carter Creek Cemetery with military honors. Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville was in charge of arrangements.

Elmer J. “Pete” McGhee

Elmer J. “Pete” McGhee, 83, of Central City, died October 27, 2002 at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Born March 29, 1919 in Muhlenberg County, he was retired from Pace Tire of Central City after 43 years of service. He was a member of South Carrollton Missionary Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the deacon board for more than 25 years.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Lee Harper McGhee; one daughter, Dorothy L. McGhee Tooley of Greenville; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry W. and Peggy McGhee of Central City; two granddaughters, Chanda Oates of Central City and Aimee Claypecs of Utica; five great grandchildren; and one brother, Jackson T. McGhee of Lafayette, Indiana.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 29, at 5 p.m. at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 30 at 2 p.m., also at Tucker Funeral Home, with Rev. W. R. Cook officiating, assisted by Rev. Mike Neal. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edna Shelton Hunter Rogers

GREENVILLE - Edna Shelton Hunter Rogers, 79, of Greenville died Friday, October 25, 2002 at her residence.
The Rhodes Chapel native was a member of Wesley Chapel AME Zion Church in Greenville, where she served on the stewardess board, Ada B. George Missionary Society, was a class leader, former Sunday School teacher, an usher and a member of the Don’t Mention Club. She was preceded in death by two husbands.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Harbin, of Greenville; two grandsons; two brothers, Floyd Shelton and Benjamin Shelton, both of Greenville; a sister, Elsie McCravy of Louisville; several nephews and nieces; and several cousins.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 29, at Wesley Chapel AME Zion Church in Greenville. Burial followed in West End Cemetery in Greenville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Green River Hospice. Mason & Sons Funeral Home in Madisonville was in charge of arrangements.

John Houston Rhoades

John Houston Rhoades, 89, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Sept. 5, 1914, he was a retired self-employed carpenter and a member of Green River Chapel General Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lou Ada Vincent Rhoades; three sons, Garnett Rhoades of Reserve, La., Fitzhugh Rhoades of Central City, and Bill Rhoades of Greenville; a brother, Olaf Rhoades of Slidell, La.; a sister, Mary Jewell Rabe of Lewiston, Mich.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Oct. 25 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Jewell Martin officiating. Burial followed in Fairmont Cemetery in Central City.

Anna Laur Amos

GREENVILLE ­ Anna Laur Amos, 39, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 19, 1964, to Gene and Dean (Groves) Jones, she was a teacher’s aide for Muhlenberg County Board of Education. She was a member of Lone Star General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Tammy Renee Jones.
Survivors include her husband, Michael D. Amos; a son, Allen N. Amos; a daughter, April N. Horning; her parents, Gene and Dean Jones; a brother, Chris Jones; and five sisters, Doris Tooley, Patricia Cary, Edna Boggess, Barbara Grace, and Jennifer Dorris, all of Greenville.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Oct. 25 at Lone Star General Baptist Church with the Rev. Ruby Rickard and the Rev. Tony Shanks officiating. Burial followed in Lone Star Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muhlenberg County Chapter of Relay for Life. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Jane Rickard

SACRAMENTO- Mary Jane Rickard, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in McLean County, Jan. 7, 1919, she was a homemaker and a member of Faith Fellowship Assembly in Lake City, Ky. She was preceded in death by a son, Stevie Rickard; a sister, Juanita Hines; and a brother, Adron Ray.
Survivors include her husband, Litle “Bates” Rickard; two sons, Patrick Rickard of Central City and Tony Rickard of Monet, Mo.; a sister, Eva Mae Ellis of Owensboro; and five grandsons.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Oct. 25 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento. Burial followed in Free Union Cemetery in Sacramento.

Donnie Stewart

MADISONVILLE ­ Donnie Stewart, 54, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Nov. 20, 1948, he was a self employed carpenter and a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Latham Stewart; four sons, William Stewart, Chris Stewart, Carl Donald Stewart, Jr., and Andrew Stewart, all of Madisonville; his mother, Lois Stewart Wells of Greenville; two brothers, Douglas Wayne Stewart of Ledbetter, Ky., and Rickey Dean Stewart of Evansville; four sisters, Brenda Jennings of Graham, Sandra Oldham of Nebo, Sharon K. Rickard of Madisonville, and Roxana Cottrell of Greenville; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Oct. 27 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Drury officiating. Burial followed in Graham Cemetery in Graham.

Anna Dean Lear

GREENVILLE ­ Anna Dean Lear, 67, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 in the Owensboro Mercy Health System following a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, July 27, 1936, to Beulah Mable Deason Massey and the late Eura Elmo Massey, she was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. She owned and sold real estate and retired from Muhlenberg County Job Corps in 1997 after ten years of service. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Henry Massey.
Survivors include four sons, Troy Lear of Hopkinsville, Steve Lear of Powderly, Curtis Lear of Fruit Hill, and Brent Lear of Greenville; two sisters, Martha Jenkins of Lake Malone and Sandy Massey McDonald of Greenville; seven grandchildren, Jason Lear, Chris Lee, Renee Lear Ward, Michael Lear, Troy Matthew Lear, Nate Lear and Clay Lear; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Oct. 27 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Vincent officiating. Burial followed in Woodland Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
