Born in Ohio County to the late Merlin and Ada Lee Shultz, she was retired from Young Hardware Store and a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Earl Jones in 1996, and a sister, Celestine Johnson.
Survivors include two sons, William Michael (Rhonda) Jones of Beaver Dam and Keith (Becky) Jones of Richardson, Texas; two daughters, Janice (David) McMurtry of Lexington and Patti (Tim) Karn of Pleasant Ridge; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Oct. 20 at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

BEAVER DAM Jesse E. Small, 84, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004 at Owensboro Medical Healthcare System.
Born in Ohio County, he was retired from Nestaway Coated Metallics and a member of the Central City Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Emmogene Small; three sons, the Rev. Dwight Small of Russell Springs, Phillip Small of Savanna, Ill. and Mickey Small of Beaver Dam; two daughters, Karen Knight of Madisonville and Diane Steffey of Marissa, Ill.; a brother, Aldred Small of Washington, Kan.; a sister, Lorenia Mason of Owensboro; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Oct. 19 at the Central City Church of God. Burial followed at Render Memorial Cemetery in McHenry. William L. Danks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Patsy Earlene Wells
HOPKINSVILLE Patsy Earlene Wells, 73, formerly of Todd County, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004 at the Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville of natural causes.
Born in Todd County, April 16, 1931, to the late Dave and Juanita McGhee Laster, she was a homemaker and a member of the Parkview Baptist Church in Hopkinsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, ElDoris Wells.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Faye Teel of Liberty, Texas and Michelle Wells of Hopkinsville; three brothers, Billy Laster of Elkton, Willard Laster of Owensboro and O’Neal Laster of Matoon, Ill.; five sisters, Martha Allison of Hopkinsville, Betty Spurlin of Jonesboro, Ark., Imogene Clifton and Cynthia Knight, both of Elkton, and Georgia Francis of Clifty; four grandchildren; and two great-granchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Oct. 18 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Roy Marquess Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Slaughters Cemetery in Clifty.
Ben Taylor Albin
SACRAMENTO Ben Taylor Albin, 88, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004 at his residence.
Born in McLean County, April 25, 1916, he was retired from Peabody Coal Company and a member of Station Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Albin; a son, James Taylor Albin of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Beth Albin Jackson of Sacramento; three sisters, Martha Jean Rhoades and Judy Whitmer, both of Bremen, and Nancy Wooten of Sacramento; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Oct. 20 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with the Rev. Les Moody officiating. Burial will follow in Station Baptist Cemetery in Sacramento.

GREENVILLE Marjorie Francis Wilcox, 82, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a short illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Jan. 4, 1922, to the late Mintal and Emma Warner Tooley, she was a member of Greenville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rayburn Yonts in 1977, and her second husband, Gene D. Wilcox in 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Hurt of Greenville and Linda Crick of Louisville; a sister, Nadine Keiper of Walkerton, Ind.; a brother, Allen Tooley of Greenville; three grandchildren, Scott Thomason, Troy Crick and Cindy Laster; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Oct. 18 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray England and the Rev. Bob Thurman officiating. Burial followed in Carter Creek Cemetery in Greenville.
Edith Wydick Harlan
BREMEN Edith Wydick Harlan, 85, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Ohio County, April 16, 1919, she was a homemaker and a member of Shaver’s Chapel United Methodist Church and Bremen Eastern Star #96.
Survivors include three sons, David Harlan and Timothy Harlan, both of Bremen, and the Rev. Dale Harlan of Winston-Salem, N.C.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Carl Clyde Shrull
RUSSELLVILLE Carl Clyde Shrull, 88, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at the Logan Memorial Hospital.
Born in Logan County Oct. 25, 1917, to the late Charlie and Mamie Pogue Shrull, he was a farmer and member of Concord Baptist Church and attended Southern Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Winona Shrull; two sons, Randall Shrull of Sikeston, Mo. and Dale Shrull of Russellville; four daughters, Rita Woodall, Jayne Cox, Sharon Harper and Donna Arnold, all of Russellville; one step-son, Glennis Porter of Penrod; three step-daughters, Debbie Mullen of Greenville, Angie Mullen of Lewisburg and Renee Stratton of Russellville; one brother, Charles Shrull, Jr., of Centertown; three sisters, Ella Desper of Clarksville, Ind., Dorothy James of Sturgis and Nina Murphy of Owensboro; 27 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Esther Elizabeth Miller
LANSING Esther Elizabeth Miller, 86, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006.
Born in Depoy Oct. 10, 1920, she retired from Oakwood Hospital in 1978 after 25 years of service and moved back to Greenville with her husband. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Miller.
Survivors include one son, William R. Miller of Irons, Mich.; one daughter, Jo Anne Gibson of Lansing, Mich.; one grandson; and two sisters, Georgia Mae Lathom and Evelyn Sunich.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Oct. 13 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Depoy. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Veda Elizabeth Hayes
CLEATON/GRAHAM Veda Elizabeth Hayes, 67, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006.
She is finally at peace joining her late husband, after 40 years of marriage, William Ray Hayes (June 1, 2000) and our savior Jesus Christ.
She was beloved mother to one daughter, Debbie Skimehorn of Central City and five sons, David O’Neal of Horse Branch, Wayne O’Neal of Oakland City, Ind., Billy Hayes of Greenville, Larry O’Neal of Earlington and Jerry Hayes of Tenn.
Survivors also include one brother, Buddy Waddell of Owensboro; one sister, Dorothy Whitehouse of Henderson; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will always be in our hearts.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Oct. 12 at Tucker Funeral Home. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

MORGANTOWN James Murry Underwood, 44, formerly of Belton, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006 at his residence.
Born in Florida March 18, 1962, he is survived by his mother and step-father, Gale and Marshall Anderson of Morgantown.

Emogene “Jean” Mercer
OWENSBORO Emogene “Jean” Mercer, 82, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006 at Owensboro Medical Health System.
Born in Overton County, Tenn. Sept. 24, 1924, she was retired from Uniroyal Tire in Detroit, Mich.
Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Waltz of Owensboro; three step-children; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her caregiver, Brenda Hale.
Funeral services were held at noon Oct. 13 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. William Holiday officiating. Burial followed in Nelson Creek Cemetery.

GREENVILLE Lillian Bennett Stringer, 95, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Dec. 26, 1910, she was a member of Central City United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Blancett Stringer in 1980 and a sister, Thelma Hillhouse.
Survivors include one son, Lynn Harvey Stringer of Sacramento; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one sister, Eula Benson of Indianapolis, Ind.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Oct. 13 at Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

BREMEN Marie Gregory, 96, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County June 10, 1910, she was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Gregory and two sons, Terry Gregory and Larry Gregory.
Survivors include two sons, Bob Gregory of Central City and Freddy Gregory of Drakesboro; four daughters, Virginia Mundy of Dixon, Eva Lou Yonts of Cleaton, Carolyn Griffin of Nelson Creek and Brenda Gregory of Greenville; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ethel Hawkins of Madisonville.

Glynn Ferrell “Lightning” Jernigan
EVANSVILLE Glynn Ferrell “Lightning” Jernigan, 60, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 in the Columbia Healthcare Nursing Home in Evansville.
Born in Muhlenberg County July 17, 1946, he was the son of the late George Edward and Lou Bessie “L.B.” Hall Jernigan. He was a member of Duvall’s Chapel General Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Junior Jernigan, Russell Lee Jernigan, Lonnie Ray Jernigan and Roger Jernigan and one sister, Judith Nell Jarvis.
Survivors include one sister, Lou Ella Jones of Evansville and several nieces and nephews.

Hazel Dale Chaney
GRAHAM Hazel Dale Chaney, 96, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County July 10, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Pete and Rosa Lee Bourland Matheney. She was a longtime member of Corley Chapel General Baptist Church. She was a dedicated member of the nursing profession, working at Muhlenberg Community Hospital and for Dr. H. H. Woodson for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Volla Thomas Chaney and seven brothers and sisters, George Matheney, Estil Matheney, Lavelle Matheney, Lilly Rose, Ola Majors, Lenora Groves and Mary Courtney. She was the last surviving sibling of the Pete and Lee Matheney family.
Survivors include two sons, Charles (Pauline) Chaney of Graham and Bob Chaney of Henderson; two daughters, Barbara Chaney and Winnie Gossett, both of Graham; 11 grandchildren, Charles W. (Judy) Chaney, Shelia Sparks, Eddie Chaney, Paula (Mike) Harkins, Roger (Cyndi) Gossett, Barry Gossett, Ellen Gossett, Kim (Steve) Durall, Leesa (Steve) Russell, Terrea (Kenny) DeLong and Rob (Tammy) Chaney; 12 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Nora Jane Brooks Wright
GREENVILLE Nora Jane Brooks Wright, 85, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County Jan. 15, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Edie Maurice Brooks Sr. and Lennie Ellen Wilkerson Brooks. She was a homemaker, housewife and a member of Leigh’s Chapel General Baptist Church in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Wright in 1984 and grandchildren, Brad and Scott Colymer.
Survivors include one son, Gene (Wanda) Wright of Greenville; one daughter, Ellen (Mike) Colymer of Drakesboro; two granddaughters, Jenny Wright and Mary (Kenton) McPherson, both of Greenville; one great-grandson, Reece Aaron McPherson of Greenville; one brother, Vinyard Brooks of Powderly; and four sisters, Bonnie Edwards of Powderly, Mary Steele and Karlene McIntosh, both of Greenville and Ruby Nell Davis of Lawrenceburg, Ky.
