John Robert Owens

GREENVILLE ­ John Robert Owens, 81, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Born in Ohio County, Nov. 15, 1921 to the late Earl and Leota Toll Owens, he was a 1939 valedictorian graduate of Central Park High School in McHenry. He completed a Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree and Rank I in Industrial Education and School Administration from Western Kentucky University. He was a U.S. veteran of World War II where he served with the 311th Infantry Regiment of the 78th Infantry Division and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He served as Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and European Theatre of Operations Ribbon with two campaign stars. He was employed by the Greenville Independent School System 1949-1979 where he served as teacher, Director of Pupil Personnel, high school principal and Superintendent. After retiring, he worked as Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds at First State Bank for ten years. He served as Interim Mayor of Greenville as well as chaired and served on various community and regional boards and councils. He served on the Pennyrile Allied Community Services Board (PACS) for 22 years and was Board Chairman 1982-83. He was an original board member of the Hopkins-Muhlenberg Community Action Agency in 1966 and was instrumental in obtaining the Head Start Program for the Pennyrile area. He was a past president of the Greenville Kiwanis Club and active in the Greenville Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder, Sunday school teacher and superintendent.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Atkinson Owens; three daughters, Anna Marie (Cletus) Cosby, Jenny (Steve) Joyce, both of Greenville and Jane (Billy) Orton of Hunstville, Ala.; a brother, Neal Owens of Echols; a sister, Margaret Swope of Evansville; six grandchildren, Stephanie Cosby, Sarah (Cosby) Coats, Amy Joyce, Carrie Joyce, John Orton, and Mary Orton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Oct. 12 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Dr. Arthur Burrows officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, c/o Church Treasurer, 101 Clemons Drive, Greenville, KY 42345 or the American Heart Association, 1212 Ashley Circle, Suite 1, Bowling Green, KY 42104.

Charles Ray Maxwell

HOPKINSVILLE ­ Charles Ray Maxwell, 66, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003 at his residence.
Born in Lewisburg, Feb. 15, 1937, to the late David S. and Oneda Marie Davidson Maxwell, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a supervisor for RCA Records in Indianapolis, Ind.
Survivors include his wife Kathy Beezley Maxwell; three stepdaughters, Debra Ingram of Colt Lake, Canada, Diane Turner of Elkton and Teresa Zander of Eureka, Calif.; a stepson, John Matthew Zander of Yuma, Ariz.; a sister, Shirley Knight of Elkton; a brother, Virgil “Butch” Maxwell of Panama City Beach, Fla.; and seven step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Oct. 15 at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery in Butler County. Visitation will be held at 6 p.m., Oct. 14 at Price Funeral Home.

Cleo W. Arnett

GRAHAM ­ Cleo W. Arnett, 70, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003 at her residence after a lengthy illness.
Born in Morgantown, N.C., Oct. 23, 1932, to the late Sherman Max and Margie Chapman Wright, she retired as a nurse from Trover Clinic in 1980 after 18 years of service. She was a member of Corley Chapel General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Jr. Arnett.
Survivors include a son, Dwight Arnett of Greenville; three daughters, Barbara Matheney and Norma Crick, both of Graham, and Lynn Hunt of Louisville; two brothers, Walter Wright of Morgantown, N.C. and Jack Wright of Pahrump, Nev.; a sister, Kat Wright of Hildenbran of Hickory, N.C.; five grandchildren, Leann Arnett-Sumpter, Chad Crick, Matt Matheney, Austin Hunt and Trevor Hunt; a great-grandson, Elijah Arnett-Sumpter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Oct. 14 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Willard Watson officiating. Burial followed in Corley Chapel Cemetery in Graham.

Lois McClain

Lois McClain, 101, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Pope County, Ill., March 13, 1902, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was also a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include a son, Thomas McClain of Central City; two daughters, Dora Mercer and Clara Lois McClain, both of Central City; a sister, Levida Pitts of Anna, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Oct. 13 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. C.W. Duncan officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Roy L. Keeling

GREENVILLE ­ Roy L. Keeling, 79, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Morgantown on Oct. 3.
Born in Muhlenberg County, April 28, 1924, he was a retired carpenter and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Central City. He was a member of the Pond River Masonic Lodge in Greenville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he served as a medic with Gen. Patton’s Third Army in Europe.
He is survived by his wife Betty Keeling; two sons, Ron (Gail) Keeling of Cape Coral, Fla. and Leroy Keeling of Chicago, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Peggy (Wendell) Nickell of Princeton; a brother, Robert (Henrietta) Keeling of Greenville; four sisters, Millie Penne of Plover, Wis., Kay (Roger) Clinton and Martha (Frankie) Smith, both of Glasgow, and Mary (Dickie) Ward of Uniontown; three grandsons, two great-grandsons; and two step-grandsons.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Oct. 13 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Central City. Burial followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Princeton. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Guadalupe Alvarado

GREENVILLE ­ Guadalupe Alvarado, 87, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at Belle Meade Nursing Home.
He was born in Mexico on Jan. 6, 1916.
He is survived by a close friend, Jermiah Caudill.
Graveside funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m., Oct. 12 at Bethlehem Cemetery in Bremen with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Irvin Wester

BEECHMONT ­ Irvin Wester, 99, died Sunday, Oct. 12 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Butler County, Sept. 19, 1904, he was a retired coal miner and a member of Mud River Union Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a stepson, L.C. McLevain, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Reed Wester; a stepson, Tracy Tudor of Indianapolis, Ind.; seven stepdaughters, Jene Fulkerson of Hart County, Ky., Cathy King and Margie Evitts, both of Greenville, Rose Spears of Central City, Remona Johnson of Beechmont, Debbie Dixon of Danville, and Mary Ann DeArmond of Beech Creek; several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; five nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Oct. 16 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Leamon Mefford officiating. Burial will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery in Muhlenberg County. Visitation will be held at 5 p.m., Oct. 15 also at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home.

Anna C. Patterson

SHELBYVILLE, KY ­ Anna C. “Momma Ann” Patterson, 85, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at her home after an illness.
A native of Shelby County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Katie and John Henry Newton, Sr. She was a graduate of Central High School. She was employed at both the former King’s Daughters Hospital in Shelbyville and as a private duty nurse. She had her own radio broadcast program on WCND Radio for over 20 years and was a 36-year member of the International Order of the King’s Daughters and Sons, Amanda Smith Circle. She was active in the HOST program and also was a Kentucky Colonel. She was a member of the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Edward Theodore Patterson in 1994, six brothers and two sons.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Booker of Shelbyville and Crevella Bell of Drakesboro; three sons, Samuel Patterson and Larry Patterson, both of Shelbyville, and Albert E. Patterson, Sr. of Louisville; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Oct. 15 at Clay Street Baptist Church in Shelbyville with the Rev. Joseph Humphrey and the Rev. Kilen Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Shelbyville. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., Oct. 14 at Webb Funeral Home. Morton-Beckley Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Pauline Walker

GREENVILLE ­ Pauline Walker, 72, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003 at Belle Meade Nursing Home.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Dec. 18, 1930, she was a homemaker and a member of Graham Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Shelby Lee Walker; a daughter, Martha Sue (Jerry) Hargrove; two grandchildren, Jeremy Hargrove and John Hargrove; four great-grandchildren, Austin Hargrove, Rachel Hargrove, Makayla Hargrove, and Jonathan Hargrove.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Oct. 15 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 5 p.m., Oct. 14 at Tucker Funeral Home.

Peggy Ann Goad

PARK CITY, KY - Peggy Ann Goad, 56, of Park City, KY, died Sunday, October 13, 2002 at Western State Hospital in Hopkinsville.
Born in Greenville, the daughter of the late Howard and Melvie Buchanan Brewer, she was a member of Mt. Vernon Church of Christ and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy, Harold and Bobby Brewer.
Survivors include her husband, Johnnie Goad; four sons, Leymond Reynolds of Belton, David Reynolds of St. Petersburg, FL, Frankie Goad of Mud Lick, KY and Clifton Bunch of Beaumont, KY; four daughters, Lesia (Steve) Stanley of Farmington, IL, Patsy Reynolds of Chillicothe, IL, Etta Dieterich of Glasgow and Carol Sue Bunch of Lecta, KY; six brothers, David Brewer of Nebo, Walter “Freddie” Brewer of Belton, Roger Brewer of Franklin, KY, Paul Brewer of Belton, Jackie Brewer of South Carrollton and Jimmy Brewer of Herald, IL; two sisters, Freda Toomey of Belton and Betty Johnson of Browder; 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 15, after 2 p.m. at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home in Glasgow, KY. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 16 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. A. F. Crow and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Cathleen Sue Fox
BELTON - Cathleen Sue Fox, 35, of Belton, died October 13, 2002 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born December 30, 1966 in Cook County, Illinois, she was a cook and waitress and was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Fox; two sons, Curtis Daniel Fox and Phillip Cody Fox, both of Belton; one daughter, Lynette Dawn Fox of Belton; mother, Wilma Jewel Miller of Chicago; one brother, John William Miller of Chicago; two sisters, Cindy Joines of Beech Creek and Carrie Rotto of Chicago.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 15 at 5 p.m. at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 16 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Roy Day officiating. Burial will follow in Mud River Union Cemetery in Belton. Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

SACRAMENTO - Wilma Jean Wilkerson, 71, of Sacramento, died October 13, 2002 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born October 16, 1930 in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker and a member of Briar Creek Presbyterian Church in Bremen.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Wilkerson; one son, Ronald McCulley of Sacramento; one granddaughter, Chastity Diane McCulley Smith of Bremen; one grandson, Ronald Jason McCulley of Central City; two sisters, Sylvia Whitmer of Sacramento and Katheryn Holsapple of Florida; one stepson, Michael Wilkerson of Eddyville; three stepdaughters, Debra Charpentier of Eddyville, Barbara Chandler of Greenville and Donna Pride of Madisonville; six step grandchildren, Michael David Wilkerson, Michelle Wilkerson, Kyle J. Wade, Rebecca Chandler, Angela Pride Ipock and Mallory Pride; one step great-grandchild, Dayton Ipock.
Visitation is Tuesday, October 15 from 5 - 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 - noon at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento. Body will lie in state from 1 - 2 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 16, at 2 p.m. at Briar Creek Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joe Vaught officiating, assisted by Rev. Gary Whitworth. Burial will follow in Briar Creek Cemetery in Bremen. Arrangements were handled by Tucker Funeral Home.

Sharon Gayle Lindsey

CLEATON - Sharon Gayle Lindsey, 56, of Cleaton, died October 12, 2002 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born August 20, 1946 in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her father, Perry O’Bannon.
She is survived by her husband, David Lindsey; one son, David Scott Lindsey of Cleaton; three daughters, Tammy Lewis of Cleaton, Regina Fleming of Rochester and Marian Tinkle of Sacramento; 8 grandchildren; her mother, Margaret O’Bannon of Drakesboro; three sisters, Retha Lindsey of Morgantown, Connie Lile of Powderly and Kathy Buchanan of Drakesboro.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 14, at Tucker Funeral Home with Rev. T. H. Davis officiating.
