Born in Greenville May 18, 1966 to Alvin Kent Chappell and Mary Margaret Wilkinson Edmonds, he worked for Apex Rock Quarries as a driller. He was a member of Roland Memorial Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Russell Chappell, in 1994.
Survivors include a son, Kevin Chappell of Lewisport; a daughter, Shrina Chappell of Lewisport; his father, Al Chappell of Greenville; his mother, Mary Margaret Wilkinson Edmonds of Island; his brother, Tim Chappell of Greenville; his grandparents, James and Sarah Jane Wilkinson and Betty Chappell, all of Greenville.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 24 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary McAbee officiating. Burial followed in Greens Chapel Cemetery in Greenville.
Brenda D. McPherson Young
LAKE MALONE Brenda Diane McPherson Young, 53, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville after a difficult battle with liver disease.
Born in Muhlenberg County March 6, 1951 to the late Ewin and Rachel McPherson, she was the youngest of nine children. She attended Hughes Kirk School in Beechmont and on Sept. 2, 1967 she was united in marriage to Mike “Turkey” Young in Beech Creek. During the first years of marriage, she lived in California, Washington and Indiana while her husband served in the U.S. Army. She then returned to Beechmont to raise her children and work. For the last five years she has lived in Lake Malone. Brenda’s faith in God was established at an early age. She grew up at Mud River Union Baptist Church and at Leigh’s Chapel Baptist Church. One of Brenda’s passions in life was cooking. So much so that she made it her career. She worked for her sisters at WK Pizza for many years. During the last five years as a food services manager at the Green River Correctional Facility, Brenda prepared meals and even taught inmates how to cook. She loved to sew, she loved flowers and gardening and she even loved to cook as a hobby. She always served enough food for company to take some home. Brenda’s greatest passion in life was her family and she lavished love on all around her. She was preceded in death by her sister, Alinda Blake and an infant brother, Waymon McPherson.
Survivors include her loving husband of 37 years, Mike; two sons, Michael (Louanne) Young of Springfield, Tenn. and Douglas Dewayne (Elaine) Young of Princeton; five grandchildren, Michaela Dawn Young, Kyle Douglas Young, Alexander Cole Young, Katlain McKenzie Gilkey and Hannah Grace Young; four sisters, Jonell (Argul) Drake of Owensboro, Bonnie (Darrell) Cartwright of Belton, Peggy (Jimmy) Beliles of Drakesboro and Hettie (Neil Carver) Garrett of Belton; two brothers, Cecil (Jan) McPherson and Charlie (Beverly) McPherson, both of Belton; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 26 at Tucker Funeral Home in Beechmont with the Rev. Gerald “Preach” Beliles officiating. Entombment was at the Leigh’s Chapel Baptist Church Jackson Cemetery following the funeral. The Green River Correctional Facility Honor Guard served as pallbearers.
Nancy D. Riley
SACRAMENTO Nancy Durham Riley, 75, died Tuesday Sept. 21, 2004 at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Muhlenberg County Aug. 8, 1929 to the late Jim and Elsie Durham, she was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by her parents and her half brother, William “Billy” Sterling Durham.
Survivors include her husband, Lon William “Billy” Riley; two daughters, Judith Carol Noffsinger of Bowling Green and Mary Ann Floyd of Westland, Mich.; a son, Billy York “William” Booth of Santa Monica, Calif.; two sisters, Ann Ruff of Madisonville and Mary Ellen Stewart of Central City; a half brother, James Kenneth Durham of Fern Creek; a half sister, Margaret Jarvis of North Carolina; three grandchildren, John Curtis Noffsinger, Stacy LeAndra Floyd and Matthew Alan Floyd and three great-grandchildren, Cheyanne Noffsinger, Sydney Noffsinger and Kaidene Alan Floyd.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sept. 24 at Tucker Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Les Moody officiating. Burial followed in Station Baptist Cemetery in Sacramento.
Carroll L. Troutman
ALLEGRE Carroll Lee Troutman, 67, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004 at his residence of natural causes.
Born in McLean County July 4, 1937 to Sydney Long Troutman and the late Clarence B. Troutman, he was a supervisor at Flynn Enterprises for 20 years and a member of Allegre Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Sydney Long Troutman of Allegre; four sons, Carl Troutman of Illinois, Jerry Troutman of Central City, Bernie Troutman of Lexington, S.C. and John Causey of Somerset; a brother, Gayle Troutman of Allegre; two sisters, Joyce Strader of Claymour, Ky. and Ruby Hargrove of Cadiz; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 24 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. J.R. Craig and Mr. Kevin Cardwell officiating. Burial followed in the McColpin Cemetery at Allegre.
Dale G. Robertson
BREMEN Dale Glenn Robertson, 45, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004 at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Cook County, Ill. Nov. 19,1958, he was a union carpenter and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Central City.
Survivors include his wife, Keena Hall Robertson; a daughter, Sarah Robertson of Central City; his mother, Joan Phillips of Bremen; four brothers, John Gregory of Bremen, Bobby Robertson, Jr., Brian Robertson and Allen Robertson, all of Illinois and four sisters, Gail Robertson and Sandy Gregory of Bremen and Tracy Wright and Kimberly Payne of Central City.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 27 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Greene officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery in Bremen.
Paul Oller
BROWDER Paul Oller, 80, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Butler County Sept. 20, 1924 he was a maintenance technician with Commercial Wallpaper in Hammond, Ind.
Survivors include two sons, Paul D. Oller of San Jose, Calif. and Joel T. Oller of Green Bay, Wis.; a daughter, Pat Miller of Browder; two brothers, Glen Oller of Hammond, Ind. and Roy Oller of Powderly; four sisters, Dottie Truelove of Evansville, Gladys Stevens and Norma Sides of Central City and JoAnn Vick of Cleaton; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 25 at Tucker Funeral Home in Beechmont with the Rev. Fred Harrison officiating. Burial followed in Forest Grove Cemetery in Browder.
Anthony A. Skipworth
DUNMOR Anthony Aaron Skipworth, 83, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Nashville.
Born in Muhlenberg County April 27, 1921 to the late Willis R. and Ethel B. Skipworth, he was a farmer, member of Myers Chapel United Methodist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Ann Skipworth; a wife, Hazel Mae (Strader) Skipworth and a stepdaughter, Dianna Campbell.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn (Coursey) Skipworth; two daughters, Katy Greenwood of Greenville and Gayla Luckett of Dunmor; a son, Billy W. Skipworth of Russellville; a sister, Juanita Johnson of Russellville; a step-daughter, Angie Dudley of Lewisburg; two step-sons, Gale Mohon and Dennie Mohon, both of Lewisburg; four grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 25 at Myers Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Vincent, Rev. Brent Waltrip, Rev. Troy Luttrell and Dr. Art Burcham officiating. Burial followed in the Dunmor Cemetery.
Kenneth E. Robertson
GREENVILLE Kenneth Eugene Robertson, 80, died Friday Sept. 24, 2004.
Born in Beech Creek May 29, 1924 to Bill and Lillian Robertson, he retired from Peabody Coal Company. He was a member of the Rosewood United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Towe and his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Omanel Robertson; a son, Terry (Mary Ann) Robertson of The Villages, Fla.; three brothers, Paul Robertson of Bowling Green, Bruce Robertson of Lake Forest, Ill. and Bill Robertson, Jr. of Elgin, Ill.; a granddaughter, Andrea (Doug) McGregor of Westchester, Ohio; two grandsons, Kevin (Reagan) Robertson of Destin, Fla. and Charles (Dawn) Towe of Independence, Ky.; a step grandson, Shaun Wilson of The Villages, Fla. and three great-granddaughters, Grace McGregor, Anna McGregor and Claire Robertson.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 28 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Vincent and the Rev. Brent Waltrip officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
Tilford M. Hurt
ELKTON Tilford McHenry “Mac” Hurt, 86, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004 at Russellville Health Care Manor of natural causes.
Born Sept. 27, 1917 to the late Alfred Hurt and Myrtie Cannon Hurt, he was the owner and operator of Mac’s Big Star Grocery for 40 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a member of the Elkton Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Hurt in 2000 and his son, Connie Ray Hurt in 2002.
Survivors include his daughter, McSherry Hagan of Bowling Green; a sister, Mary Boyd of Bowling Green; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 27 in the Glenwood Cemetery in Elkton with the Rev. Jerry Tracy officiating. Latham Funeral Home in Elkton was in charge of arrangements.
John O. Randolph
GREENVILLE John O’Bryan “Big John” Randolph, 55, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County May 20, 1949 to John Henry and Margaret Randolph, he was a truck driver for B and J Trucking and a member of South Carrollton Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Richard Wayne Randolph.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Linda Randolph; a daughter, Sadonna (Terry) Rose of Greenville; a son, Bryan (Angie) Randolph of Greenville; his mother, Margaret Randolph of Greenville; two sisters, Joetta (Al) Chappell of Greenville and Barbara (Hollis) Maxwell of Arizona and four grandchildren, Seth Randolph, Trevor Randolph, Lucinda Randolph and Isaiah Randolph.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 28 at Tucker Funeral Home. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Terry Vincent, Sr.
GOSHEN, IND. Terry “Bud Man” Vincent, Sr., 40, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004 in Rushville, Ohio due to a job related accident.
Born in Muhlenberg County Aug. 21, 1964, he was a self employed truck driver and served in the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Laura McCahill Vincent; a son, Terry Lynn Vincent, Jr. of Goshen; his father, Thurman Vincent of Pulaski, Tenn.; his mother, Jewell Dean Hardwick of Drakesboro; his maternal grandfather, Buell Kennedy of Greenvile; three sisters, Tammy Henderson of Powderly, Tina Hostetter of Elkhart, Ind. and Kim Crouch of Quality, Ky. and four brothers, Tim Childress and Tim Vincent, both of Central City, Tony Vincent Sr. of Graham and Todd Vincent of Goshen.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 3 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Carter Creek Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 2 at Tucker Funeral Home.
Lennie O. Stevens
LEWISBURG Lennie Odeleen Stevens, 85, died Sunday, Sept. 26 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Todd County, Feb. 25, 1919 to John Richard “Red” McGhee and Zora Dixon McGhee, she was a member of the Cliff Hill Baptist Church in Lewisburg and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by one son, Arvin Randall Stevens on Aug. 18, 1962.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Cecil Stevens; seven sons, Norman Stevens of Franklin, Ky., Bernis Stevens of Clifty, Danny Stevens of Central City, Joe Stevens of Elkton, Donnie Stevens of Cadiz, Billy Stevens of Robards and Dorris Stevens of Lewisburg; two daughters, Carolyn Moore of Lewisburg and Brenda Vaught of Madisonville; a sister, Ardell Laster of Hebron, Ind.;12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 29 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Blake officiating. Burial will follow in Cliff Hill Cemetery in Lewisburg. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 28 at Gary’s Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Sept. 29.
Courtland Foster
GRAHAM Courtland Foster, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Graham June 27, 1922 to the late Chesley and Mary Foster, he was a laborer and union steward with Tennessee Valley Authority. He was a member of Corley Chapel Church in Graham and a World War II Army veteran, serving in the D-Day invasion of Omaha Beach in Normandy, France for which he received a purple heart.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Ellen Foster; a son, Mike Foster of Greenville; a daughter, Teresa Scott of Greenville; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Sept. 28 at Corley Chapel Cemetery in Graham with Bro. Larry Perkins officiating. Interment followed at Corley Chapel Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post #5480 and American Legion Posts 2, 6 and 310. Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonville was in charge of arrangements.
Ora L. Allison
GREENVILLE Ora Lee Allison, 90, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004 at her residence after a lengthy illness.
Born in Todd County July 27, 1914 to the late Robert Lee and Ollie Nora Deason Sullivan, she was a homemaker and a member of Jernigan Chapel Methodist Church in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Allison in 1981 and a daughter, Regina Allison Locke in 1991.
Survivors include six daughters, Brona Hendrix of Lexington, Alicetine Lee, Wilma Freels, Margaret Johnson and Bernadean Thomas all of Greenville and Wanda Armstrong of Henderson; a sister, Earlene Wells of Greenville; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 30 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Phillips and Brandon Coin officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 29 at Gary’s Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Sept. 30.
Eugene Gunterman
LIVONIA, MICH - Eugene Gunterman, 74, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County June 6, 1931, he was a retired Mill Wright employed by McLouth Steel and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Gunterman and a sister, Clara Uzzle.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Geary Gunterman; a son, Gary Gunterman of Livonia, Mich.; a brother, James H. Gunterman of South Carrollton; four sisters, Roberta Slinker, Judy Brown and Wilda Pointer, all of South Carrollton and Wanda Nelson of Central City.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Sept. 23 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Bean officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Clayton J. Rice Jr.
GREENVILLE - Clayton J. Rice Jr., 86, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital following several months of illness.
Born in Greenville May 9, 1919, he was the son of the late Clayton Jefferson Rice Sr. and Helen Puryear Rice. He owned and managed the S.E. Rice Tobacco Company in Greenville for many years. He was an Army veteran of WWII serving in Panama three years as a staff sergeant, an elder in the Greenville Cumberland Presbyterian Church and former Mayor of Greenville. He was a member of the Planning and Zoning Board, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the V.F.W. He was an avid golfer, a graduate of the University of Kentucky, attended Harvard Business School and was an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Rice; a daughter, Jennie Rice (Von) Harshman of Franklin, Tenn.; a son, Jeff (Carolyn) Rice of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Dorothy Rice Harvey of Central City; five grandchildren, Meredith Rice Harshman and Robert Allen Harshman, both of Franklin, Tenn., Thomas C. (Lesley) Rice of Mount Juliet, Tenn., David Clayton Rice and James William Rice, both of Chattanooga, Tenn. and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 24 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Dr. Arthur Burrows officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Jesse Leake Hale
GREENVILLE - Jesse Leake Hale, 92, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County May 11, 1913, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley Hill and Grace Caskey Hill. She was a member of Roland Memorial Baptist Church in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winbern (Buck) Hale, four brothers, John Hill, Perry Hill, Norman Hill and Eldoras (Dodie) Hill and five sisters, Ettie Drake, Christine Cary, Essie Hardison, Etha Wells and Elizabeth Sherrod.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews
